No way… that’s me in the AGS. Sorry to do you like that lmao. I do play on Xbox on a controller though, and I think I recorded the clip from my pov. The hacker video was gaining traction really fast, so I had to make sure I set the record straight before it got out of hand now that I knew what was going on.
Yes it is true that on consoles you can track planes or helis. But it is very annoying tho ... I must admit that I was using it when I was only starting with wt. But I couldn't get the grip with my controller (but don't get me wrong I've been playing cod on controller and I can compete with mous players- not elite or pros but hey it should be fun). And then I switched to mouse and keyboard and every time I pressed the mouse button (range finder) it started to track the plans(if there were some) and that killed me coupe of times and I turned it off. I know that I could change the button functions but I didn't. In conclusion I think that if your playing on controller (it is pressing one of the analogue sticks and it is very annoying as I said earlier. And if you're using keyboard than you don't really need it🤷. And remember it is only my opinion (it is 2022 after all😂✌️)
I play on pc and I remember binding a key to c that allowed ur turret to lock onto a target quickly in arcade. Does nothing in realistic, but useful in arcade to quickly get sights on target then just let go of C to start precisely shooting spots on the enemy.
@Finnish ski troop Then plug in a fucking kbm and play on an even footing without this bullshit. Easy as. There's no excuse for cheating, which this blatantly is, as it gives a clearly massive advantage.

@Austin Delorme Honestly, I think its internet connection issues for some. I have a 4ms Ping to Frankfurt and usually 6-8ms ingame. I get Ghostshells maxbe once a year. Like literally in the 4 years I've played this, I had maybe 6 Ghostshells. But when I played at my friends house once, he has bad Internet, I got 2 Ghostshells in one day. So probably really some synch/server issues
I'm not only angry that this tracks targets so you can make finer adjustments... I'm absolutely pissed off that it can track vehicles through walls. What a joke. Thanks for highlighting this. Very informative video.
No problem! I do think players with a controller need some assistance, but the fact this assistance can be used with a mouse is a bit too much. Not sure how Gaijin would fix something like this since they don't want to remove the ability to use a mouse on console, and they don't want console players who use a controller to lose their only reliable way of shooting down aircraft because trying to aim at a moving target with a joystick is not easy at all. I definitely think the lock on should break once visual contact has been lost, but the target tracking is something I'm not sure should stay or go. I don't want to be the guy to ruin other people's way of enjoying the game or competing with people who have better hardware, but I also don't want people to abuse stuff like this either.
@@BruceLeeroy94 Gaijin have a setting that doesn't render vehicles if game thinks they're behind a wall and that you shouldn't see it (this is why tanks very often disappear in sight, especially when behind some chunks on certain maps. Considering how Gaijin "fix" things and how recently they promised to make a separate rocket launch in sim (when rockets go 1 by 1 and not two at once), but there are still MANY vehicles in the game that didn't get it and players have to manually suggest fix on forums, this is just another handicapped mechanic we must live with
This combination lock on track has been in the game for ages, has it not. I remember back in 2018 seeing this mechanic. I have never actually used it, but if it can track through walls and rocks that is scummy to say the least.
@@ShiningDarknes it will place a box around them as well, and spotted targets is pretty misleading seeing how sometimes it will lock on through buildings and mountains with no line of sight.
Targets still get spotted in RB tanks. I'm not sure if tanks can be spotted, but aircraft can definitely still be spotted. If you ever see the red arrows on the edge of your screen, then it's a spotted aircraft. It seems like it works randomly, but it's definitely there.

ive used this locking-on feature on console and its kind of over powered , e.g you can lock on to an aircraft in a missile aa without radar and the aircraft wont receive a radar warning. The locking on pretty much guides your missiles to the enemy.
@@Lucky_MiTo. nah, not for a few years now. This is even nastier on proxy-fused gun AA. A pc player has to actually aim, a console player just presses a button and pulls right trigger and laser beams you out of the sky.
In arcade it works the same way. Guiding ATGMs into enemy jets is very easy with this method, I did it regularly with the begleitpanzer. But having this in realistic battles is just unfair, even when the enemy names just pop up, because names shouldn't be in realistic at all.
Yeah, they tried adding this feature to PC as well a while back, it was absolute pandemonium. You literally could not play aircraft in ground RB without getting deleted by SPAA through trees.
As a console player I had no clue about any of this. I'm aware of tracking an air target with the little grey box and being able to always see the box when it's in view but I had no clue you could lock on like this
There is also a thing very similar to that but in air battles. You can lock onto a plane or ground aa or artillery and not only it keeps track of the target, but it also locks your plane too, basically moves your entire plane towards the target, just like a missile. So you basically don't even need to move the plane yourself, you can just hold L2 and only move the crossair to shoot at your target. I really thought people already knew about this, since i've never played on PC before
Both? Both is good. An obvious cheat feature is an obvious cheat. Gaijin shouldn't have put it in the game, and players, upon learning of it, should have the self awareness to realize it's a blatant hack. War thunder should have come with a warning on console: 'Requires keyboard and mouse to play.' Then everyone's on an even footing, this braindead fuckery wouldn't have been seen as necessary to overcome the limits of console gamepads, this video would never have existed. Since learning of this I've brutalized every console player I see. I'll make this shit as unenjoyable and toxic as I can. Fuck hackers, and fuck gaijin for all of this.

Yeah sometimes the joysticks would get me killed, but it was due the driving mechanics, not the aiming. I really dont think this should be in realistic at all, full stop.
As a console CC WT creator, in a nutshell of this vid, the auto tracking system need some restrictions so it shouldn't auto track through walls & mountains & such which is hopefully that's the case here & should happen ASAP

@@GWMsharpshot21 using controller aimassist with mouse and keyboard should be considered cheating, period. No debate about using mouse and keyboard on ps4 or xbox.
On PC you used to be able to use headphones with maxed enemy engine noise and get an approximation, but this is a whole new level. Besides, last major sound change they heavily nerfed that ability to pinpoint sounds.
I'm just amazed you rendered to him, I've lost count of how many times I've died because someones entire tanks didn't render because a few branches covered them. Or my personal favorite, the missile carrier with the launcher on the roof, hiding behind a hill with the launcher sticking above the hill, you'll be looking right at them, and no launcher is visible, instead, you only know someone is there when the missile actually launches.
As a console player for a good couple of years, I never knew such feature existed. I do use that lock-on feature on aircrafts as like a highlight and way to keep an eye on an aircraft when it's far away or behind cover whilst I concentrate on ground enemies. But I never knew there was a way to track enemies like how it is with radar based AAs. I don't want to implement such feature into my keybinds to keep it fair for everyone else and my custom keybinds are something that has changed throughout my time in War Thunder and will be keeping them the same. Besides, it's practically full due to the limited buttons on the controller unless I wanna do some crazy button combos. Great video anyways and I hope it can educate others.
I remember being able to lock on with pc. I think there was a check box option that enabled lock on when holding down the right mouse button. It even gave an aiming circle for leading targets when using certain mounted mg's. It helped me get some kills when I first started playing. I think it was removed from pc after an update, but I may have changed settings getting rid of it because I havent seen it in a long time. Very interesting information and great break down.
Never really thought of it as radar but now it makes sense this lock on feature saves my ass all the time, from letting me know where the enemy planes are in clouds, to helping my little M3 track targets that are far beyond my range and letting me set up a good hit on their next approach
Long time watcher, first time commenter. Stand up dude you are my friend. Thank you for your amazing content and mad props to your skills in the rotor craft. You are forever my helicopter Jesus.
Also on console when you lock on to an aircraft, you can call out to your team using the attack the enemy command. It will call out the aircraft with its name
Wow, I happened to notice players that tend to get surprising shots on me had the console icon. I had assumed that in some way it's easier to work the sticks (like in air battles) than dragging a mouse around. It turns out I was right, but for the wrong reason.
Having played console war thunder for years, and now on PC for a few weeks. PC plays much better/easier. Console sticks make a bit smoother "mouse aim" flying yeah, slightly. But actually aiming is more difficult. And most of all, try playing air RB without "C" key.
I play in PS5 w a mouse and keyboard, but have that setting turned off, in my eyes it kinda messes the shot up sometimes because the lock of feature is annoying especially in ships. But if your aiming at a tank and accidentally locked onto a heli and press button on accident you look straight at the aircraft and the tank gets free shot on you. So it’s a good and bad feature
I'm a console player we can target and lock onto aircraft in any battle except sim And we can do this while using mouse and keyboard and because I'm on next generation consoles I do not spawn late
There is a setting where you can join a battle from the start or when it has started. This is for console and pc version!!! It's been in the setting since day one! If you ever find a game where there are more people on one side than the other this is when people can join into the game minutes after its started to even the teams
A small tip here, in naval realistic on PC(That like 3 people play including me) you can do the same. You spam "select target" and you can see enemies through hills even if any other vessel has no visual range on them. And your rangefinder works through hills/mountains so you can get a fire solution quickly. It's a leftover system as you used to be able to do it in realistic battles on PC as well for some time but it got removed for obvious reasons.
As far as I remember, there's a time when in PC you can lock on aircraft in ground RB. It was a feature added to help SPAA, but It was removed because people find it annoying when they try to zoom in, they instead lock on and tracking aircraft in the air.
Well no. You only can track the aircraft when you binded the key for it. Locking the target was removed so not any player on PC with that keybind could lock the aircraft. Its very simple. but tbh it was a good time. Silly me thought that with the removal of this locking method it would also mean that on console its not possible anymore, so its a good thing i quitted wt some months ago.
A thing that is interesting but many people don't know is that there is a setting that let's you join games that are already running for like a minute or something like that, so that means that spawning late isn't really an indicator if the player is on console or PC. A Way to know if it's a console player is just looking at their Username, if it's a console player yo can see a "controller icon" in front of it.
this explains so much, some console payers I've met insta kill me when I come out of cover and I always thought it was just 3rd person peeking or something.
I’m an Xbox player and it’s outright op. Works a dream with atgm’s against choppers. I use a mouse and keyboard and still lets me lock.. I get it for controller but this is outright unfair
@@deezboyeed6764 literally ive played war thunder for 4 years now and Ive always had that and didnt think it was aim bot or anything how is it aim bot if you can still miss your shot
That's so weird, I've played on console for 3ish years now and never realized you could have the gun follow an aircraft that way Ive used the target lock for sure, but i distinctly remember turning off the tracking camera (at least for aircraft controls, where you start with it as a keybind by default) since it was disorienting in combination with my other aircraft keybinds I dont think its a default setting for ground controls because i never remember having to turn it off. Seeing as i'm quite capable of shooting things down without it, and open keybinds on a controller are hard to come by, i have no plans of using it anyway
As a console player I don't think we should have these tools, I feel like it makes the point of ground radar useless, and that's depressing, it means it takes no actual skill to shoot down a plane
PC has Target Tracking (ground vehicle) - it doesn't seem to actually track, just point the barrel at the ground of the target. I'm a newbie. Helps somewhat. Sometimes its flakes and tries to track a nearby target, like a plane.
This is in fact a feature on console to help with locking planes and helicopters, I’ve done this countless times with the M24 and gotten quite a few kills. A little while ago, the feature got removed but recently got added back
First off, I only have one minor correction, "now" console players can use a mouse? That's been a thing from almost day one. Almost. Hell, I have a Frankenstein control setup where I planned on using a mouse and a controller in aircraft battles from almost 3 years ago (didn't work out for obvious reasons). At least I can proudly say I don't use this feature and have gotten a few Aircraft kills from a tank.
I had no idea that pc players didn’t have access to this feature. Which doesn’t seem very fair. I’ve always used it to hold my lead steady on aircraft when I’m playing something like the M42 or Ostwind. Although it’s extremely overpowered with something like the M163 or the Shilka, it doesn’t really help with something like the Sergeant York. But if PC players can’t do it, I don’t think we should be able to do it either.
I mean, that is where I am confused about Gaijin, when a console player has a mouse and keyboard, that aim assist should temporary go away, when the player then plugs the controller back in, then they can use the aim assist again, it's not too difficult to have implemented, as many other games has this option by default... Let's take GTA for instance in this scenario, I used to play on console back in the day, had XBOX 360, I also used both controller, mouse and keyboard, whenever I swapped to mouse and keyboard, the aim assist was taken away.... but when I took the controller instead, the aim assist came back, that was a default setting that could not be turned off... Now, if Gaijin really cares about the community, they would do this exact same thing... In which I doubt they will
I mean he is wrong and right at the same time, isn't he? Having an advantage over other players playing the very same game. That's the very definition of cheating.
i got called a hacker once when i was playing as a gepard in sinai when a heli was hiding behind the hills and i knew exactly where and when he would peak, kinda stupid to be honest
Wow….now, I’m doubting all of the times I get sniped in a plane that I was flying in when the tank in question was at an angle to my flight path from more than 1km away. This is such bs… There should be no reason why someone gets best of both worlds when some others don’t
I agree. This feature should stay in arcade where it belongs. Even without the tracking, wallhacking anything, including aircraft, shouldn't be allowed in realistic battles in any capacity.
The thing that bugs me about him shooting your tail off is that there was no visible travel time for his shell. At the exact moment you hear him fire, your tail gets shot off. As well it seemed to have a totally flat trajectory.
APFDS fires at an absolutely insane velocity. The video makes sense. All/most APFDS has a velocity of 1000m/s+. So the shell would have taken WELL under a second to make contact with the heli
The auto lock on can be quite annoying when I can't turn it off. Especially when the person the it's locked onto isn't even in sights. And there's someone else near me
I had heard of this feature but it's interesting to see how it works. I've definitely been on the receiving end of it a few times! I remember once when I was diving into the battlefield at a good rate of speed just to get one shot by a bofors before I could even get a shot off. I was still quite high up when I got hit too. I thought they must have been hacking to make such an insane shot, but then I remembered this mechanic, checked their tag, and sure enough, it was a console player lol
In the first few years of ground battles, PC players had this functionality. I used it a great deal to lock onto tanks to keep track of them through walls. I don't agree with this being a console exclusive control though. Especially since you can still use a mouse on console.
Joining "late" might also be a PC user that selected the option to join battles already in progress. I have done that sometimes when I am not in the mood for a long wait time while the matchmaker is trying to find players for a fresh battle. I did not know about console players being able to track through solid objects. That is definitely unfair and Gaijin needs to break that target find/lock "feature."
I've been playing since day one of the Xbox beta , have reached br 11 in multiple trees, and I had no clue this was a thing. Neither do any of the people I play with. I know about putting a bracket on air vehicles so I can call them out but they still have to be above true solid cover like the ground to place it. Definitely can't do it in sim though. Air sim is actually pretty nice with a controller. I do want to get a keyboard for extra keybinds and chat though. With all the new guided bombs/missiles and such they are adding, every button does like three things now and I have to remember them all. The big advantage you PC guys have though, is the ability to adjust graphics settings. It could look like a straight up sandstorm to me but one slider later it is perfectly clear for you. We are stuck at high settings with full particles and bush/grass.
I would have liked if the graphic setting is set to console level for the minimum (atleast in RB). That way we can all see what we suppose to see not some players with hardware to run 200 fps but have clear sky when everyone else see sandstorms.
M&K get this feature as well, Lock Target can be used on anyone who is spotted, even through objects. It doesn't show you where to lead the target to hit, but if you have a fast enough round like an APFSDS it can look like Auto-Aim against slow Helis and such.
Just because its a feature given to console players doesnt mean it isnt cheating, if it were on PC it would 100% be cheating, there is no logical answer why this should be a tool they are allowed to use
Lock on actually exist on Pc like 2 years ago, you can lock on by holding zoom after locking target which makes AA gun hella accurate. They remove it like 1 year ago
I’m on Xbox and I can’t track like that, if your behind something I loose lock and when you come out it resets the aim and messes up you impact point. Maybe something super deep into the controller settings but aiming with a thumb vs a mouse is not even remotely close either
To correct everyone on this whole aimlock for controllers, its also on PC, its a feature that you can turn on and off and it locks target for both tanks and aircraft, I've been playing warthunder for 3 years now and its been a feature since I started, you can turn it on or off on both PC and console, I always used to use the target snap when I was playing ground vehicles but found it annoying that once you target an aircraft but your shooting at a tank your tank snaps to the plane then you get hit by the tank, so for all those players going "why program and aimbot for controllers" keep in mind that its on your pc aswell, you just never bothered to check what certain settings do, how it works is you target a vehicle with middle mouse then hold right mouse to zoom a bit and lock on then it tracks the target, it doesnt actually lead the target it always aims right on it but if you hold the button and turn the camera then you can somewhat lead the shot.
I thought everyone on console knew about this, it works in aircraft too to an extent I play console mainly and I get a lot of use from this feature with AA tanks and I don’t think it should track targets this well
also another good point is if that is a good player he can hear your helicopter rotating and couldve been guessing you were going to be there and was correct. cause i know that i have done stuff like that with my 7k something hours on warthunder and have been called a cheater afterwards when all it really was was good game sense.
As a console player.. I confirm you're correct, sir. Been using target tracking with a M&Kb since the release of Tanks on WT... years ago. Works with ships, too...
I connected a keyboard to my xbox and I can still use this feature but idk what the bind is called for selecting enemies which is also why I never into arcade
I am a console player and I didn’t even thought about using this😂 which i will never try because it’s messed up. Its sad and painful that gaijin has not done anything about this after a year from this video. I play on PS5 and this thing still exist. With a fancy graphics, 60 stable fps, what can go worse if you play mouse and keyboard. Targeting planes 8km away with a click of a button, thats fucked up
Looking back at the video makes me want to get a controller just to play top tier. You dont even need a radar lock to lock a plane with a controller so you are essentially hidden from the enemy heli or plane and you can fire your missile without giving the enemy player warning.
This looks like the same system they use in naval on all platforms. I doubt they'd change it, since it would make naval pretty much unplayable. You'd be unable to fire on any target that is behind an island.
To be fair, I use a noise cancelling headset and I can hear choppers far out, I am able to pinpoint by a couple degrees where you're flying behind rocks/trees/buildings due to how sound works now after whichever update messed it up last year or so. I just shift left and right to get a "lock" and with any proxy-fused autocannon I only need visual for a second, but I've played hundreds of hours in the ZSU-57-2 alone so this leans heavily on skill and learning by doing. This feature however is nasty, definitely shouldn't be allowed in realistic.
No way… that’s me in the AGS. Sorry to do you like that lmao. I do play on Xbox on a controller though, and I think I recorded the clip from my pov. War Thunder has naver been 100% realistic
@@crowbirdryuell or even realistic at all
@Austin Delorme Honestly, I think its internet connection issues for some.
@@BruceLeeroy94
Gaijin have a setting that doesn't render vehicles if game thinks they're behind a wall and that you shouldn't see it (this is why tanks very often disappear in sight, especially when behind some chunks on certain maps.
Its pretty rare that it will accually work through walls especially in realistic that's probably just a annoying ass bug
@@sparrow9990 I was wondering if it could be made into a bug report or something?
The only flaw in his revision is that in realistic battles, you still can’t see nameplates even if spotted

You can’t see plates BUT you can lock on to spotted targets.

Great explanation video, and good on you for owning up to your mistake and making it right!
I would just like to clarify that you CAN NOT TRACK OTHER TANKS IN RB
I remember being able to lock on with pc. I think there was a check box option that enabled lock on when holding down the right mouse button. It even gave an aiming circle for leading targets when using certain mounted mg's. It helped me get some kills when I first started playing. I think it was removed from pc after an update, but I may have changed settings getting rid of it because I havent seen it in a long time. Very interesting information and great break down.
I read another comment that said it was on both. Got removed from PC but never got removed from the console edition.
I remember too being able to do that on pc
Brother were you playing in arcade 💀
Never really thought of it as radar but now it makes sense this lock on feature saves my ass all the time, from letting me know where the enemy planes are in clouds, to helping my little M3 track targets that are far beyond my range and letting me set up a good hit on their next approach

Also on console when you lock on to an aircraft, you can call out to your team using the attack the enemy command. It will call out the aircraft with its name
Once I saw someone using this command, and I though they were cheating since in ground rb you cant lock on planes.
Aiming whit a stick is a fuckton harder to aim whit than whit a mouse
and yet again every consolplayer i accuse of using exactly that tells me there is no autotrack on console

Silly me thought that with the removal of this locking method it would also mean that on console its not possible anymore, so its a good thing i quitted wt some months ago.
thats why i changed my keybinds some time ago, there is a separate zoom , thats not bound to right mouse by default.
It was soooo annyoing, you do not want to know how many times i tried aiming at a close by tank then it locks onto an aircraft
This isn't true. My name has the console symbol but I'm purely on PC. It's just the account was made on console is all.

This is in fact a feature on console to help with locking planes and helicopters, I’ve done this countless times with the M24 and gotten quite a few kills. A little while ago, the feature got removed but recently got added back
i am in 1:58 and i cant say that they could hear you the whole time
First off, I only have one minor correction, "now" console players can use a mouse?
What you said really makes me feel like the more suspicious times I got shot down by SPAA were console players abusing that feature.
The m163 does get a tracking radar

I just want to add a note, you can also enable this on PC by exporting your controls, adding this option, then importing them again.
Wait, seriously?
How??
Not once did you think about every player on the map having a marker on them for any team to see their location??
Wow….now, I’m doubting all of the times I get sniped in a plane that I was flying in when the tank in question was at an angle to my flight path from more than 1km away. This is such bs… There should be no reason why someone gets best of both worlds when some others don’t
I play on console without knowing this and this feature is completely unnecessary even though playing on a console can be difficult
I agree. This feature should stay in arcade where it belongs. Even without the tracking, wallhacking anything, including aircraft, shouldn't be allowed in realistic battles in any capacity.
This is why I refuse to play any cross platform games, the console legal cheat modes have got completely out of hand.
The thing that bugs me about him shooting your tail off is that there was no visible travel time for his shell. At the exact moment you hear him fire, your tail gets shot off. As well it seemed to have a totally flat trajectory.
Yeah thatll happen when youre shooting APDS-FS at what looks to be ~600m max
Besides, the clip is also sped up
clip is sped up and that's an apfsds round traveling at very high velocity for 700m or less
APFDS fires at an absolutely insane velocity. The video makes sense. All/most APFDS has a velocity of 1000m/s+. So the shell would have taken WELL under a second to make contact with the heli
Still having a console AIM support, while playing On Mouse is clear "handicap" and not really "fairplay".
To be fair I have pulled off shot's like that by just predicting with the sound of your engines. 7.1 surround sound headphones is a must have.
Just because its a feature given to console players doesnt mean it isnt cheating, if it were on PC it would 100% be cheating, there is no logical answer why this should be a tool they are allowed to use
facts
Tbf, there are an enormous amount of cheaters in this game. One of the many reasons I've stopped playing.
I play on xbox and i have never been able to lock onto someone except from arcade
I thought everyone on console knew about this, it works in aircraft too to an extent
I play console mainly and I get a lot of use from this feature with AA tanks and I don’t think it should track targets this well
also another good point is if that is a good player he can hear your helicopter rotating and couldve been guessing you were going to be there and was correct. cause i know that i have done stuff like that with my 7k something hours on warthunder and have been called a cheater afterwards when all it really was was good game sense.
As a console player.. I confirm you're correct, sir.

Looking back at the video makes me want to get a controller just to play top tier. You dont even need a radar lock to lock a plane with a controller so you are essentially hidden from the enemy heli or plane and you can fire your missile without giving the enemy player warning.
this also raises the broken spotting mechanic..
This feature however is nasty, definitely shouldn't be allowed in realistic.
you can even hear helis in the game and if you have good headphones you can use the sound to find a distant heli or plane
Yeah, anyone who has their volume on should have had no trouble knowing he was there

Console players have like * and + for which console they are using IIRC. it's been over a year since I played so forget
Me: "I think I might hop back into War Thunder and give it a try again"
*Video Seen*
Me: "...nevermind..."
so many games out there and people unironically playing war thunder is something I will never understand
You can tell if someone is a console player by the controller icon next to their names in game
With console, there's lock on to planes/helis, so long as your name pops up and your semi- visible, it's still possible
But if that plane spotted you wouldn't your nametag come up then he'd be able to track you through the rocks because he can see your name?
I accidentally found out how to do it on pc with no controller, hold right click and it tracks
