Glad you keep up with what’s going on and you knew you had to get in there and document the area. I’m not surprised at how much it’s changed. We are closing in on a decade since you were first there. Hopefully this won’t be your last visit but I fear it may be. Thanks for the invite to come along.😊💙

The main reason I subscribed and watch your channel is because you take "us" to places off the beaten path so to speak. You video document places that have significant historical value to humankind, but will sooner or later not exist because of "progress". It's a shame that we lose our past without documentation to progress. We MUST always remember where we came from and the fight and conditions our ancestors fought through to achieve the rights and luxuries we have today that most don't appreciate. I applaud you for your efforts and work to document these places and the work to share them with us and take us along for the discovery. I explore my area as much as possible, but I don't have access to the history you do. I live in Indiana; which has some historical interactions and "wars" with Indian "or more appropriately"Native Americans". There are some beautiful areas here that are associated with Native American"conflicts" and"wars". The beauty and simply the access to the rest of "America" is a subtle reminder to why the native people fought to retain this land to an invading people. Alas progress will always prevail and channels like yours will document what was before. THANK YOU for your efforts and thank you for allowing me to "come along" with you.

It's amazing and shameful to me how much trash is just dumped by people. I'm an avid outdoorsman and I always bring out more trash than I bring in. I keep several trash bags in my backpack and tackle box for such occasions. I understand that there are many places that you and I come across that are beyond our capabilities to clean up; and that's a shame on the individuals that put it there.

What an incredible adventure! It was fun riding all the cool trails. Lots of great history and I thought it was so interesting when you showed the old photos in relation to what it looks like now. Love the old water well and the old explosive sign. When you pointed out those googly eyes, I kept thinking, now those walls are watching you. lol The huge, tall structure looked like it had been three stories to me too and you are right, the craftsmanship that went into constructing the retaining wall is unbelievable! The last smaller structure was really neat too, I have never seen a nest like that either. lol You found so much and now you have it documented a couple times, that is wonderful! Beautiful photos and an amazing video JP, thank you! 💙

With all the coal seams in that area I wouldn't be surprised if some of those structures were mining related along with the powder mill remains, that would also explain the railroad beds in different areas you explored. Those buildings with the slots in them look like winch houses and the slots would have allowed the cables to pass through and go down into a mine shaft to bring coal to the surface

Fantastic video JP, that small building with the porcelain electrical indicators, I think that probably was a transformer. And that tree, with that orange substance on the outside, that is very unusual. I never seen that before. Very strange. I loved seeing all the old buildings, and that grease substance, on that concrete, that is very unusual and strange too. Could have been a machine building, weird to see grease last that long, I know that machine shop grease like smell you talked about, it's a strong smell. Like walking into a mechanic shop, or a machine shop. So I think that's what it was.
I agree JP, that river rock and rail road tie wall is amazing, very well made. Amazing to see that "danger explosives sign" incredible structure of a wall.

I think all these little buildings with electrical insulators were motor houses to power either conveyor belts or possibly a cable system to pull around the railcarts. A lot of these structures had to be where sulfur, saltpeter, and charcoal were hauled in, dumped, moved around for processing, and mixed to make the black powder. The little, narrow openings were probably where chutes entered from storage bins.

In the United States of America always choose the right hand path first. It usually leads to the most interesting things. In my area (North Central Indiana) it's usually any country road that has an old cemetery or any country road that is designated as 400 or 700 east, west, north, or south that has the coolest stuff along them. There are acceptions though.

I have been so glad that I had discovered your channel! I was interested in all the grease on the walls in this one. Why? That rock/railroad tie wall is going to last forever. I really enjoy your videos and the other explorers around the country. (I am always amazed and dissapointed in people. It seems everybody carries spray paint and has the need to deface stuff. Does anyone have any clue as to why? I just cannot figure out the need to do that. Nor why people dump stuff in the middle of nowhere, including heavy stuff.) When we go riding in the woods we spray us and our clothing to avoid ticks, chiggers and biting horse flys. So far so good since the 70's except spray was prob a bit more toxic then. Please take care and thank you so much for these and and the research you do.

If their building warehouses on top of that they should be kinda ashamed. That overhang of rock with the decomposing layers underneath looks a lot like shale, which IS very unstable. You were smart to not venture too close!
Not only check for ticks, but it also looks like a great place to get tangled up in poison ivy!
I believe the orange stuff coming out of the downed tree is a type of fungus, and just living on the tree.
It appeared to me, on your longshot overview of the large building, as you were figuring out how to get down there, that there was actually another road/trail just to the downhill side of the building, that was probably an easier access.
That was an incredibly complex and interesting retaining wall. I've never seen anything like that anywhere!

    Jay,
Here you go:)Infrequently in the spring, you might see an orange, slimy substance slowly oozing from a wound on a hardwood tree. This is a fungus or a complex of fungi and yeast that colonize the sap that leaks from a tree wound.
Possibly, but there are a number related gooey Fungi, mostly all harmless.
This is a really fun video, and yes, the bike makes a amazing difference.
IT would be wonderful if that could become a nature preserve, but you know the old story,

There must be some old timers left that could explain this whole operation. That large building and smaller ones look like poured cement; built to last. The orange material on the dead little tree is a fungus. Some are quite beautiful. Thanks for the explore; very interesting and enjoyable! Take care and God bless…..🌝

@40:40 Am I seeing things, or did someone actually take the trouble to fix down chicken wire over the rafters before putting the tarp on top, which would give the tarp stability and make easier to change when it degrades from UV? Whoever it was really must want the dry spot: maybe an illicit hunting blind or camp spot?
@54:00 The place might have used so much juice that it was easier/more efficient to pole high voltage around the site and feed individual step-down substations at the buildings to drop the voltage to something that the equipment could use. (Some older mechanics that I worked with remembered working on old, large, process chillers back in the `60s and `70s that ran on 3460V. Pretty scary stuff.)
Regarding why so little is left: I wonder if the township hounded whoever now owns the land about 'hazards and imminent dangers' and the owner was forced to remove anything that could potentially collapse or become a liability hazard to brainless, inattentive morons? Or perhaps it was just burned down by Stupid Brats Doing Stupid Things?
@1:09:58 You love the wall so much because it's freakin' *fascinating*, man! ;) Incredible work; terrible loss if it gets wiped away because it shows an interesting way of creating an artifical embankment.
Thanx again for another fascinating explore!
