I've seen 10 different versions of this video format and this is probably the best, most well spoken one I've seen. Nice job Will Putney.

Becoming a big fan, no doubt in my world you are among the best of song writers and producers in contemporary metal sub genre, and a musician and recording artists myself like listening to helpful tips.

i think thats right. I mean if you are a pupil of the producer of Ashes of the Wake, you would be bound for greatness

blendernoob64 Seriously, Ashes is my favorite album of all time and I am still amazed by the production. Machine should still be their producer.

Agree with most of this. Let's use a great example of "overthinking" the song selection on an album. Take a listen to the KSE EP. Those songs should have been on the final album cut and some of that slow fluff they kept could have been removed. Album was a snoozer besides the singles and then the EP drops and people are like, "WTF?" The dynamics weren't there and the EP songs could have created the dynamic flow that makes slower and more heartfelt songs stand out, rather than be the backbone

An engineer's view on music others make and he has to process.

The only thing that makes a bad experience in studios is when producers shove their ideas down the bands throat. There are times when a band will work with songs on demos where they already take the time to agree on the final ideas and the producers are trying to change it.

but, playing devils advocate, an idea that was executed by a group of people might not be the best idea for the betterment of the band or the overall product. even with all of the work that went into the writing process itself, a producer's ideas and concepts should still be taken into account. ya never know, their ideas might be what takes a record from being a flop to a hit, just by some miniscule or some immense changes being made to the overall sound

Then don’t work with a producer lol. Just book time with a studio button pusher. Or record it yourself. Bands work with producers because of their ideas and direction they are going to bring to the table.
In my opinion in order for a band to reach new hights they need to be pushed past their comfort zone.

@@andrewkasper8158 Sure, but when it's forced is when there's a problem. My point being of the fact that collaboration is never a bad thing but when there is a sense of entitlement where they feel their opinion is better than the band's decision is over-stepping it.

@@Robotron9000 I already don't work with a producer because I am my own. This is dead seriously the reason why I am my own audio engineer (plus saving money in the long run too). Also bands should push theirselves out of their own comfort zones, not rely on money grubbing fucks to do it for them. Hope ya have a good day.

@@relaxingsounds1386 Okay buddy, then tell me something. Tell me why the Producers who have contact info with many of the scummy Labels technically by contract over record deals have more legal power to say what you should make than you do. Tell me why certain Artists hate what they've made because of this, INCLUDING some of the biggest bands in the world. Tell me why some Producers will completely talk shit about you, denounce what you've made and even stop working with you IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PROCESS when you don't work with their ideas creatively when THEY'RE the ones you're fucking paying. You need to educate yourself a bit more on this topic. Not insulting you, just saying that the business is a bit more fucked up than you think it is. I do have great respect for some producers as well for the record, Steve Albini being a great example. There definitely are producers who don't fall in this category and who are pretty respectable in the business even if you don't listen to their ideas. However saying what you said about me not "liking producers" comes across a bit know it all don't you think?
