Chris is a beast of a player. Nevermore days with Loomis were incredible. Two monsters of Metal in one band. Thanks for sharing your riffs that inspired you. Love your playing….
It's so refreshing having a highly skilled, classically trained guitarist talk about musical scales and the uniqueness of various guitar artists working their magic on the electric guitar.
Chris playing these early Yngwie riffs reminds me that there was a time when Yngwie really cared about song writing and not just blazing up and down the fretboard,
I'm so happy I Am A Viking is being mentioned here by Chris. Killer tune with an amazing riff and solo. Marching Out is also such a good metal album in general.
King Diamond and Andy LaRoque put out such great albums in the 80's and early 90's! Fatal Portrait, Abigail, Them, Conspiracy, and The Eye are all records I still play today - I never had the skill or knowledge to play anything more than rythm guitar lol🤘
HUGE Broderick fan! Stood front row right in front of him at a Rust in Peace reunion tour show while he was with Megadeth! Such a monster on the guitar!
I remember trying to pick songs by ear (via cassette or LP) like "Lay It Down" and "Seek and Destroy" - no tabs - no concert footage. What a challenge, but what a way to train the ear!
I appreciate you showing n sharing all this information with us as learning guitarist n I think ur a great guitarist, love all the megadeath riffs, music you done !
I remember being in a music store when I was younger and hearing someone playing the riff for I'll See The Light Tonight. I had not heard Yngwie before then and I had to ask him what that was. Turned out, he was an instructor there. Introduced me to some great music, got me started on lessons and taught me that very riff. Still one of my favorite warmup riffs to this day. I also started tuning one of my 7-strings up a half-step after reading that's what he does with In Flames, so I can play normal C-standard stuff on my 7s. Brilliant idea!
This is an awesome idea for a video series! Also, I love my Broderick Signature guitar! lol It's the 6 String version of the beauty hanging on the wall. Thanks Chris for the inspiration!
Do you like the input jacks location on the backside of the body ? I had the Black 6 string with the Floyd Rose tremelo.. I would definitely like to get another one someday..pickups sounded awesome !
@@rosskrause3926 The different kind of input jack works well if you only ever use a straight plug. We are all not as amazing as Chris to not have to look at the fretboard :)
Awesome video! I always learn a lot from listening to Chris Broderick. Very intelligent (and masterful) guitarist. Will have to check out these songs. Thank you.
Yngwie has been an all time fave guitar virtuoso, and Paul Gilbert has earned a place in my fave😊s...two different styles but, both are awesome...you mentioned "string skipping..." Have you checked out Steve Morse? Somewhat more blues forward but WoW, very complicated. Your mastery of various techniques is TOP NOTCH, PROPS! 🤘🤘
The crazy thing about Yngwie on things like the Light Tonight solo is that I don’t think he really used his 3rd and 4th fingers together when doing runs like that. Pretty sure he would use his 1st, 2nd & 3rd fingers instead of 1st, 3rd & 4th for the first figure.
Chris is truly badass. It was so cool to see him in In Flames when they played Reno back in 2022, the night before they played Aftershock. He threw me a pick and it's on the wall in my studio. 🤘🤘🤘
It does kind of seem like a friend of his told him that he knew how to edit videos and he’d do it cheap lol just sets up several camera angles and haphazardly jump cuts between them with no rhyme or reason
I'll tell you what "schooled me" A guy named Chris Broderick in a video named "Betcha Can't Play This - Chris Broderick (Megadeth)" To this day I watch it in amazement, but I have been able to play pieces of it to a respectable degree. It made me want to quit, and at the same time, it made me want to practice more b/c it was so damn impressive.
So good to know what inspired Chris. Great vid. I have to ask however, since its mentioned frequently, what does "at any rate" supposed to mean? ha ha ha ha ha. Never heard it b4 let alone so often from one awesome dude.
Met Chris and Loomis at the music messe in frankfurt germany many years ago and what can i say, that guy CAN play guitar, awesome! By the way, Jeff too 😉

Great to see Andy LaRoque getting some love, very underapreciated guitarist despite the fact that he wrote so many classic King Diamond songs.
Many KD riffs wrote also by the King himself 😉
Andy has a unique tone and style
His soloing for Death were genius and totally added to chucks riffs
Andy probably my favorite guitarist of all time. He is amazing!
Peter Blakk is almost never name dropped and he wrote some really cool stuff too!

The song Rising Force is something else.
Yeah, this was when he actually collaborated with other talented people like the late Marcel Jacob and had a real producer on his albums.
Kings of the nightworld from black dahlia sounds verrrrry similar to Yngwie now listening again lol. Makes sense though.
Why care about music when you can melt the strings off? 🤠

@@ibanez33150decent / good overall, but definitely great in the context of Megadeth’s post-1990 discography.
