Just a quick video showing how to replace the tailgate handle in a 2010 Toyota Tundra.
It's a good idea to clean and grease the tailgate latches and grease the moving parts of the new handle and lock cylinder as well.

Thanks a million! 3 years later and this video saved me a ton of money! It was much more simple than I even thought it would be! Great explanation!
Thanks for the detailed step by step video!!! I followed the steps and fixed my tailgate in about 15-20 minutes. You saved me some 💰 💵 💷 $
Mine just snapped this morning. Thanks for the video, I ordered the new one already.
Hey Dan, one thing I did that will probably extend the life of an aftermarket handle is that I sprayed lithium grease on all of the moving parts. The handle, the entire latch, mechanism, the guides, and the actual end latches themselves. Operates much smoother now. Toyota wanted $118 for the handle and I bought an aftermarket for $18 from Amazon. I figured a little lithium may help it to go a long way.
That's great advice, thank you. I will definitely do that the next time I replace one of these handles. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the helpful video. I was able to replace the handle in about ten minutes.
Dan’s video is excellent. After reading online reviews on the quality and reliability of various aftermarket parts, I bit the bullet and instead bought OEM through an eBay merchant for $90 all-in. Part fit like a glove and is high quality. Made the repair in about 15 minutes.
Thank you so much. Followed this step by step. Started at halftime and was able to finish in time to watch the last 2 minutes of the basketball game.
Thorough and Simple tutorial! Now I can fix our tailgate handle. Thanks Dan!
Just replaced mine and the video helped tremendously!
I wish that piece was made out of metal instead of brittle plastic. Its ridiculous how easily that breaks - especially on a toyota product.
Me too! Cheap plastic crap! I’d pay 5 times the cost of the plastic one to not have another broken latch release!
Excellent video. Thanks!!
Perfect. Thanks Dan the Fix it Man!!!!
I just changed mine , thank you!!!!

Thank you for your this video
So my tailgate handle didn’t break, but the two mounting bolts are now missing. Do you have any idea what size 8mm bolts those are that hold the handle in? Thanks for the video!
Great video…thx!!!
Good informative video. Thanks.
Thank you for this!!!
👍👍
Just finished installing a new latch...I can only pull on the right side of the handle unlock it. When I pull on the left side, the handle comes out...what do you think is going on?
Sounds like the plastic housing that holds the nut that the left bolt threads in to has cracked Same happened to me and I re fastened the nut into the housing using JB WELD EPOXY
I have this exact issue, but I cant get into the bed because I have a cover that only opens if the tailgate is closed. Do you have a solution for this?
Did you figure this out?
@@ryanmcclennen6666 as of right now no, I might have to just cut the cover and get a new one. Which ideally I would like to avoid
I'm in the same boat I will try a couple things tonight
i am not a "fix-it" person... but I just replaced my tailgate handle and got it open with the above video
@@ryanmcclennen6666 any luck?
