This Build Took A Whole Year, Let's Hope This Works Out!

  • This was the Biggest challenge we've ever taken on. Hailey and I volunteered our summer to Build an adaptive mountain bike trail with BC inspired features. We are built through some of the most heinous boulder gauntlet. Everybody who walked this section said it was not going to be possible. Going into this phase of the build we knew this was going to be the most hardest part of the build but that's also what made this so rewarding.
    This trail will be officially opening in 2024 as part the Driving Range.

    I've always said perry hill needs another down trail on the easy lower trail side that goes all the way down to the underpass without using the up trail... Just saying... Haha would love to see you build more trails at places I love though. Great job man!

      I do think there's something to that. I can generally feel how something will ride before building it andHailey will often spot lines I miss. While she might not be able to hit them herself, she's been around me and other skilled riders to know what goes what doesn't.

    42:35 I find those constantly where I build trail - literally hundreds. Wood grubs! Larvae of all kinds of other beetles and stuffs. Make a good snack for bears, birds, and other critters.

      Definitely a Beetle of some sort, I think they are invasive from the research I did. You're not the first person to say something about them being yummy, somebody else said they taste like peanut butter haha.

      @@PhilsWorld you're right, Phil. In our part of the world they're the reason some palm and coconut trees rot from the inside. As a retaliation we harvest the larvae. Delicious both raw and cooked. Hahaha! It's better cooked, just grill them, use some bbq sticks. 😆

    How did you get permission to build all these trails Phil, or do you own all that land ?

    • @PhilsWorld
      @PhilsWorld  2 місяці тому +17

      Most trails in VT are on private property. Thats the case here, land is privately owned, but used for a maple syrup operation. The land owner also happens to be a mountain biker and had been wanting to build trails there but had their hands full. The local Mtb chapter in this area (Richmond mountain trails) got permission from that landowner to build out a new trail system. For what it's worth my wife was on the board of this chapter 5ish years ago(?), and having volunteered a bunch on other projects we know the members pretty well. We showed up to almost all the volunteer days the first year they broke ground, and that winter i proposed building a trail at no cost to them. Trails are very expensive and since they trusted us they gave is the go ahead to flag and build a trail. I wanted to make sure there was something challenging being built to help riders progress, and i have always wanted to start a trail building company.

    • @The-Mighty-Orange
      @The-Mighty-Orange 2 місяці тому +4

      @@PhilsWorld Will you be building more trails on this property, or going your own way, and starting your own trails somewhere in the future? Anyway I'm looking forward to your next video. 👍🏻

    • @PhilsWorld
      @PhilsWorld  2 місяці тому +1

      @@The-Mighty-Orange The drainage project I posted right before this video was from the same trail system and filmed after 99% of this video. I will probably not be doing any more complete trail builds here, but would in a heartbeat if I could build another trail. You're allowed a certain millage of trails before you need to apply for a permit and the process is pretty extensive. These rules might change in the near future, the Vermont Mountain Bike Association has been working hard to help ratify some of the state rules.

    I think in Canada, off road diesel has more sulfur. Regular diesel filtered more, to remove sulfur and burn cleaner.
