I totally agree with you. Live Aid is little brother to Wembley, Montreal, Budapest, etc. Queen was one & only in concerts. Live Aid was great but all their concerts were great. Best live band ever!!!!
live aid is hailed as the best because it was just Queen without the light show and usual dry ice but more impressive was live aid was not a Queen crowd, remember a lot of people in that crowd that day probably did'nt like Queen but by the end of their set the band won everyone over! but wembley 86 is an amazing spectacle as was every Queen show! as roger once said "we liked to blind and deafen them in the first 10 minutes, then while they're recovering slip in a few not so good ones!" 😂 they always had a sense of humour about themselves
He was indeed getting a bit tired of all this touring. But he never let that affect his energy on stage, He wanted his fans to enjoy as much. In one interview Brian May recalled freddie saying something like ''I am broken darling'' at one of the last concerts of this tour. Brian thought Freddie was just tired of all the touring and needed rest at the time but maybe it was an indication of something terrible. Live Aid at Wembly is the stripped down bare bones of their genius - I've read folks/press thought they'd lose their luster w/o lights, smoke, theatrics. They weren't on the bill till late, so no special draw there. I think that's why it has a warm place in the hearts of fans - they were fire with an arsenal of stadium experience to draw upon - AND TIE THAT DOWN!
We've all seen the Freddie monument in Montreux. At 11.19 and 11.20 minutes of the video, we can see him in this pose. I have never seen this pose again at Freddie's other concerts.

Queen alone made approximately 200 songs. That's not counting the solos by Freddie, Brian, and Roger; the documentaries; and their fun rock and roll covers from various concerts. And, don't forget that the same song is different each time they performed it live. You've done a lot of terrific reactions, some of them to the same song at different venues or studio/live. You have a LOOONGGG way to go and a lot of live concerts to react to yet so you might very well be in your '60s before you finally reach the end. One day I'd love for you to react to one of their early concerts and then later to one of their '80s concerts. FYI if you do react to a complete concert (or documentary) break the reaction into 3-4 segments over several days to avoid the UA-cam police.

Oh yes this is one of my favorites. Great reaction HAP. You need to show this whole concert. You will absolutely be entertain through the whole concert. They did 2 concerts. One on Friday July 11th and one on Saturday 12th 1986. Friday nights preforance its was rainy. Saturday night was perfect its my favorite night the band didnt disappoint. Action all the way through this concert. They did something like 28 songs. The concert almost lasted about 2 hrs. Yes you have alot of material still to get through. This song was off of the album A DAY AT THE RACES back in 1976. I always enjoy your reactions to QUEEN. Thank you HAP for doing a song from that legendary concert. I read that Jim sold the jacket but don't know if it is true. It was listed in the Bonhams catalog (#1793) auctioning Rock and Roll and Film Memorabilia - the auction date being Tuesday 16 November 2004 in Knightsbridge, London. Hap..might have told you this before I worked at a radio station in Framingham Massachusetts in 1973 Queen came over to the US I believe for the first time they came to my radio station I had no idea who this group was and I met them all except Freddie Mercury who was sick at the time in the hotel and it was the most bizarre meeting because I wasn't too crazy about the name of the band Queen thought it was relatively odd but anyway we took their album and we played this song I was invited to their concert and I can't remember who went with me but I loved this song and a few of the other songs on the first album that they had with the second album I believe this was really before anybody knew who they were in the states and I'll never forget it.
You’re right. They were the best at Live Aid, but Wembley is my favorite. It was filmed over 2 nights using 15 cameras. They put a 2nd set of speakers at the halfway part of the Stadium so that the viewers in the back could hear Freddie’s vocals matched to the video screen. The DVD set has 2 discs, one from each night. My 2nd favorite DVD is “Hungarian Rhapsody”, the concert from Budapest. I’ve been watching Queen reactors for 2 years now, and you’re my absolute favorite! Cheers from New Jersey, USA. Have you considered getting a post box? Do they have them in the UK? Queen fans are very generous. I’d be glad to send you DVD’s if you have a DVD player.

Yes, Brian had a very late night at an Observatory and a restless sleep. This “tune” kept popping up in his head. When he showed Freddie, Freddie asked “what are the words?” And Brian replied “All I keep hearing is Tie Your Mother Down, but we can’t sing that!” Freddie said “Yes we can!”
When I first saw Queen on 11 Feb 1975 at the University of Toledo Student Union Auditorium on the “Shear Heart Attack” tour I hadn’t heard that much about them but saw pictures and heard a few songs on the radio.This was a pretty intimate gig with most of the crowd sitting on the floor in front of the stage. It seemed like a little party at your house with people passing stuff around and you could interact easily with them on stage. On top of that they were great and you knew you were seeing a performer who was made to be doing what he was doing at a level above most. Great night. Thanks for your reaction!
This is the Friday night performance which was used to try out and get the camera angles and position how they wanted, also to get the sound levels right for Saturday night recording which was the one for release as a full concert production. In my humble opinion, Queen's two hour/two night concert at Wembley is beyond epic. I've watched the concert on UA-cam over a dozen times and never get tired of watching it. Love Freddie Mercury and Queen!
I'm glad you decided to react to this song and yes, it''s infectious atmosphere, I would just prefer you saw the version with lyrics first as it shows Brian's naughty side, this song is what you would call it "In your face" :-) You've already heard so much about this concert and it is wortwhile watching, every song you may pick there is delivered in a special, energetic way (maybe because there was a tangible connection between the band and their audience, it was their hometown after all and you can feel how Queen genuinly enjoyed these Wembley shows..) Now, Please, don't take this as a resolute request, I'll just feel free to recommend you the Rock'N Roll Medley from the same show - they had so much fun as they were performing old songs which influenced them in their youth, their actual musical roots (Elvis, Little Richard..). This was the Friday night concert, so it was a “trial run” for the camera guys & director...hence there’s not so many camera angles and they are different from the Saturday night...which was the official release...& you viewed “one vision” from Freddie’s voice was better on Friday...Saturday, having been in pouring rain and belting out the hits on Friday night you could tell he wasn’t 100% Freddie’s illness was not confirmed until 1987...but Brian & Roger thought there was something wrong during this tour & Freddie probably knew he wasn’t well. From the 86 tour I’d say check out A kind of Magic from Budapest awesome bass & guitar solo
I was at the concert on the Saturday. It's not until seeing these recordings years later do you realise how much better his voice was on the Friday. Who wants to live forever is a case in point IMO. However on the Saturday back in 1986 it was the best gig I had ever attended, and to this day still is.
Love this track. I'm not sure any comparisons can be made between Live Aid & any of their other concerts. Live Aid was a quick 20 minute gig without the lights & sound backings............There's nowt wrong with doing Queen reactions when your 60 fella, I'm 62 & listen to them everyday.

Actually, Freddie was diagnosed in 1987. On LiveAid v. this concert, obviously the nearly two hour show is better in the breadth of songs, the ability to draw them out, the staging, etc., but LiveAid was all the biggest artists having a strict 20 minutes for a worldwide audience of nearly 2 billion, and Queen stealing the show -- on both sides of the Atlantic. As you may have heard, when they were doing Radio Gaga, the 80,000 or so fans in Philadelphia were doing the clap to the big screen. Anyway, that's what made it "better." Obviously if I had a choice to only have one to see, I'd go for the nearly two hours.
Live Aid reference is more of a concise little cosmos of 20 minutes of pure rock perfection. Short, sweet & to the point proving Queen was top dog. But yeah, in terms of their concerts, ...go for these! or anything From 70s to 86 - POWERHOUSE. Queen had a motto, "Blind 'em & Deafen 'em" ps. I like your glasses!

This recording didn’t show it very well, but at the end of the song Freddie stands in front of Roger and says “shoot out”. This is for the pyrotechnics that shoot out frim under Roger. If you watch the Queen Ifficial video, you will see Freddie abruptly turn to look at Roger, followed by Brian looking. The pyrotechnics cane earlier in the song and poor Roger was quite literally BLOWN OFF his seat and onto the stage floor!! Freddie said “They tried to kill Roger”. 😳. From what I’ve noticed, from then on Freddie stands in front of Roger when the pyro is going to go off.
This has always been Queen’s Status Quo song for me, whenever I hear it I think of Quo’s ‘Whatever You Want’ for some reason. And a great song live - the crowd had a blast!

That looks like Fridays performance. Please watch the 7/12/86 Saturday performance. I think it was better. Please consider breaking up the Wembley concert in 3 or 4 parts and react to the entire concert. It is legendary. The Saturday full concert was on DVD and it’s on UA-cam.
Awesome reaction! Tie Your Mother Down is a fun rocking song, personally I think it has one of the best rock riffs, and this Wembley performance is one of the best versions of the song. Live Aid is revered for the scale of the event, and the way Queen just stole the show from everyone else. But it is certainly not Queen's best performance, this was business as usual for Queen. Live Aid does have one of the best live versions of We Are The Champions, it is actually a really difficult song to sing. But generally it is really a performance for more casual fans. If you look at bootlegs people will pick very different shows as the best, New Castle, second night 1979, usually comes up as one of the best, or Leiden 1986. Filmed shows are something different. Montreal 1981 is good for reactions, but it is not such a fun show to watch. The crowd was subdued and Freddie was pissed off at the filming crew, and the performances are random, they don't follow each other consecutively as the concert progressed. Personally, I really like Wembley 1986, the whole concert was filmed as one event and the crowd is great. This is also when Freddie's voice was at it's most powerful, so I really enjoy that. But some people don't like Wembley as much because Freddie had a cold. They did two consecutive nights at Wembley, by the second night you can sometimes hear that Freddie's voice is becoming tired, it doesn't matter in my opinion it is great. Rock in Rio 1985, is pretty good, and Japan 1985 is also pretty good. Actually Freddie was diagnosed with full blown Aids in 1987, but according to Mary Austin he knew at this point. The rest of the band did not know anything, he only officially told them in 1989, although they had already suspected his diagnoses. Milton Keynes is a great show, the crowd is great and Freddie's voice is great, but the footage is not HD. Queen's South American concerts are great such as Suo Paulo and Buenos Aires, everything is great but again the footage it self is not HD or top quality, and the sound is sometimes not that well mixed. Budapest 1986 is great, but the filming does not include any noise from the crowd so it is bit strange. Houston 1977 is popular on bootlegs and on film. It is a great concert, but Queen has not rereleased the footage on DVD, they can do it if they want to. Another great concert is Hammersmith 1979, but again Queen have not rereleased this footage on DVD. A lot of these concerts are on youtube and they have been upgraded by fans, because they were originally released on VHS. You just have to check out Somebody To Love and Now I am Here from Hammersmith 1979, to see how great that was. It is very underrated but Queen's early concerts such as live at the Hammersmith 1975 and live at the Rainbow 1974, is really amazing, and the footage and sound is great as well, because it has been released by Queen Productions. These along with Wembley and Milton Keyes are really great. There are other good concerts to watch as well, but the camera angles are sometimes bad such live in Sydney 1985. Or the sound is bad, such as live at Hyde Park 1976. Or sometimes it is a bit of both if you are looking at fan footage Vienna 1986 (fantastic show but not shot well), Knebworth 1986 (Queen's last show filmed by a fan). Earls Court 1977 is good, but Freddie's microphone had technical problems, his voice often just disappears, some fans have fixed some of the footage and sound. And then you get Japan 1979, generally known as one of Queen's worst shows, but it does have great footage and sound! lol Queen's 1979 tour was a long tour, and Japan was the very last leg of the tour, they played 14 consecutive days in Japan sometimes twice a day, that is simply a ridiculous schedule. By the time they filmed the show, Freddie's voice was completely shot, his voice was almost gone, and the whole band just looks tired. But there are some decent performances from the show, such as Bicycle Race. Freddie is lucky that his voice recovered from that abuse. People today don't have schedules like that.
Total banger this song and I love it . It rocks on the studio album too - A Day At The Races . I like this concert better than Live Aid. I did see this done live in Feb with AL and rocked the stadium down.
What perpetually pisses me off is that they never show Deaky. FYI, he DID sing back up on this (and many songs) contrary to many opinions that he never sang, but the video only shows Brian and Roger. If you look, you can see Deaky at the mike in the background when the focus is on Roger. I saw them live and he DID sing back up frequently.

I agree that Wembley is definitely the Big Uncle from Live Aid xD. I mean yes live aid is amazing but a whole Queen Concert is of course much better. There is not much to say. I LOVE this song. Especially I love what they did with this song at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert, you'll see that one day. This is a great Song, very heavy kind of rock I love it. Yes Queen made timeless masterpieces, they'll live on forever, I hope so. To me its actually that much of sure that I don't even have to hope for it xD but still. It always makes me a little sad thinking about Queen and how they did around 700(!) live shows during their career. and what? just a handfull had been recorded. Just think about the 695 shows nobody will ever be able to watch. All the greatness we are missing...

I think Live Aid was THE performance that made them legends. Because they stole the day from so many colossal acts. That said, I think both the Wembley and Montreal ‘81 concerts top Live Aid in sheer performance brilliance. They. Are. Incredible. And people will say, “Freddie’s vocals weren’t good at Wembley. A lot of cracks and straining.” Yeah, and they weren’t at Live Aid, either. It didn’t matter. It’s the whole package that makes a live show memorable. That’s why I also put the later concerts ahead of Rainbow or Hammersmith Odeon. Both wonderful concerts, I love listening to them. But they didn’t have the stage presence and stage itself developed yet.
While I agree you that the Wembley concerts in 1986 are fantastic (I prefer Saturday's), I think there are a number of factors that put Live Aid over the top for me. Keep in mind you are watching these Wembley reactions one at a time which does not allow you to feel the real pace and pressure of the concert. If you watch the Wembley concert as a whole, I think Live Aid stands out because it is just jam packed hit after hit with no space between songs. I think he took one or two sips of water and that was in passing quickly to the next song. There were no pauses. There was no sound check or special effects and 1.5 billion people around the world were watching, many of which were watching live. To boot, they were under time constraints that required they finish their set or be subject to the power being cut off. You can see the stop light at the bottom of the stage turn red a second after they concluded. They barely made it. Imagine the pressure. They are use to controlling everything and they had none of the dazzling effects they normally have for their shows yet Freddie and the rest of the band were absolutely on fire. Freddie made up for the missing elements with his spontaneous dance with the camera, his peacock strut, and his ability to elicit out-of-this-world crowd participation. Also, the fans at Live Aid were not specifically dedicated Queen fans like they were at Wembley in 1986 as the tickets for Live Aid were already sold before Queen agreed to perform. I think that is why it is considered the greatest live rock performance ever. I believe it's the totality of the situation that put it over the top and certainly it had the largest audience ever for a rock concert. Don't get me wrong, the Wembley 1986 concert was wonderful but it was a completely different atmosphere and they were in complete control of all the elements...as much as you can be for a live performance.

hap when you react to wembley stuff you need to do the saturday night show, the friday night (like this, is a practice for the cameras) but the sat night is far superior in terms of filming, sound and clarity of recording! good though the friday night is the sat night is waaay better! even the very camera angles they used were better
Live Aid did not have the lights and big production that Wembley had. That is where they got that they stole the show, with the other acts Queen topped the list. this concert cannot be topped in that sense though!
the musics that you ear from wembley should be from the second day in wembley 86.. the official version of wembley. they are better. this version is not the best.

Live Aid at Wembly is the stripped down bare bones of their genius - I've read folks/press thought they'd lose their luster w/o lights, smoke, theatrics. They weren't on the bill till late, so no special draw there. I think that's why it has a warm place in the hearts of fans - they were fire with an arsenal of stadium experience to draw upon - AND TIE THAT DOWN!
We've all seen the Freddie monument in Montreux. At 11.19 and 11.20 minutes of the video, we can see him in this pose. I have never seen this pose again at Freddie's other concerts.

Queen alone made approximately 200 songs. That's not counting the solos by Freddie, Brian, and Roger; the documentaries; and their fun rock and roll covers from various concerts. And, don't forget that the same song is different each time they performed it live. You've done a lot of terrific reactions, some of them to the same song at different venues or studio/live. You have a LOOONGGG way to go and a lot of live concerts to react to yet so you might very well be in your '60s before you finally reach the end. One day I'd love for you to react to one of their early concerts and then later to one of their '80s concerts. FYI if you do react to a complete concert (or documentary) break the reaction into 3-4 segments over several days to avoid the UA-cam police.

Oh yes this is one of my favorites. Great reaction HAP. You need to show this whole concert. You will absolutely be entertain through the whole concert. They did 2 concerts. One on Friday July 11th and one on Saturday 12th 1986. Friday nights preforance its was rainy. Saturday night was perfect its my favorite night the band didnt disappoint. Action all the way through this concert. They did something like 28 songs. The concert almost lasted about 2 hrs. Yes you have alot of material still to get through. This song was off of the album A DAY AT THE RACES back in 1976. I always enjoy your reactions to QUEEN. Thank you HAP for doing a song from that legendary concert. I read that Jim sold the jacket but don't know if it is true. It was listed in the Bonhams catalog (#1793) auctioning Rock and Roll and Film Memorabilia - the auction date being Tuesday 16 November 2004 in Knightsbridge, London. It reportedly sold for over 34,000, don't know if that was in dollars or pounds. This info is from the Queenzone fan page.

Hap..might have told you this before I worked at a radio station in Framingham Massachusetts in 1973 Queen came over to the US I believe for the first time they came to my radio station I had no idea who this group was and I met them all except Freddie Mercury who was sick at the time in the hotel and it was the most bizarre meeting because I wasn't too crazy about the name of the band Queen thought it was relatively odd but anyway we took their album and we played this song I was invited to their concert and I can't remember who went with me but I loved this song and a few of the other songs on the first album that they had with the second album I believe this was really before anybody knew who they were in the states and I'll never forget it.
You’re right. They were the best at Live Aid, but Wembley is my favorite. It was filmed over 2 nights using 15 cameras. They put a 2nd set of speakers at the halfway part of the Stadium so that the viewers in the back could hear Freddie’s vocals matched to the video screen. The DVD set has 2 discs, one from each night. My 2nd favorite DVD is “Hungarian Rhapsody”, the concert from Budapest.

Yes, Brian had a very late night at an Observatory and a restless sleep. This “tune” kept popping up in his head. When he showed Freddie, Freddie asked “what are the words?” And Brian replied “All I keep hearing is Tie Your Mother Down, but we can’t sing that!” Freddie said “Yes we can!”
When I first saw Queen on 11 Feb 1975 at the University of Toledo Student Union Auditorium on the “Shear Heart Attack” tour I hadn’t heard that much about them but saw pictures and heard a few songs on the radio.This was a pretty intimate gig with most of the crowd sitting on the floor in front of the stage. It seemed like a little party at your house with people passing stuff around and you could interact easily with them on stage. On top of that they were great and you knew you were seeing a performer who was made to be doing what he was doing at a level above most. Great night. Thanks for your reaction!
This is the Friday night performance which was used to try out and get the camera angles and position how they wanted, also to get the sound levels right for Saturday night recording which was the one for release as a full concert production. In my humble opinion, Queen's two hour/two night concert at Wembley is beyond epic. I've watched the concert on UA-cam over a dozen times and never get tired of watching it. Love Freddie Mercury and Queen!
I'm glad you decided to react to this song and yes, it''s infectious atmosphere, I would just prefer you saw the version with lyrics first as it shows Brian's naughty side, this song is what you would call it "In your face" :-) You've already heard so much about this concert and it is wortwhile watching, every song you may pick there is delivered in a special, energetic way (maybe because there was a tangible connection between the band and their audience, it was their hometown after all and you can feel how Queen genuinly enjoyed these Wembley shows..) Now, Please, don't take this as a resolute request, I'll just feel free to recommend you the Rock'N Roll Medley from the same show - they had so much fun as they were performing old songs which influenced them in their youth, their actual musical roots (Elvis, Little Richard..). This was the Friday night concert, so it was a “trial run” for the camera guys & director...hence there’s not so many camera angles and they are different from the Saturday night...which was the official release...& you viewed “one vision” from Freddie’s voice was better on Friday...Saturday, having been in pouring rain and belting out the hits on Friday night you could tell he wasn’t 100%
Freddie’s illness was not confirmed until 1987...but Brian & Roger thought there was something wrong during this tour & Freddie probably knew he wasn’t well.

I was at the concert on the Saturday. It's not until seeing these recordings years later do you realise how much better his voice was on the Friday. Who wants to live forever is a case in point IMO.
However on the Saturday back in 1986 it was the best gig I had ever attended, and to this day still is.
Love this track. I'm not sure any comparisons can be made between Live Aid & any of their other concerts. Live Aid was a quick 20 minute gig without the lights & sound backings............There's nowt wrong with doing Queen reactions when your 60 fella, I'm 62 & listen to them everyday.

Actually, Freddie was diagnosed in 1987. On LiveAid v. this concert, obviously the nearly two hour show is better in the breadth of songs, the ability to draw them out, the staging, etc., but LiveAid was all the biggest artists having a strict 20 minutes for a worldwide audience of nearly 2 billion, and Queen stealing the show -- on both sides of the Atlantic. As you may have heard, when they were doing Radio Gaga, the 80,000 or so fans in Philadelphia were doing the clap to the big screen. Anyway, that's what made it "better." Obviously if I had a choice to only have one to see, I'd go for the nearly two hours.

Live Aid reference is more of a concise little cosmos of 20 minutes of pure rock perfection. Short, sweet & to the point proving Queen was top dog. But yeah, in terms of their concerts, ...go for these! or anything From 70s to 86 - POWERHOUSE. Queen had a motto, "Blind 'em & Deafen 'em" ps. I like your glasses!

Love, Love, Love ❤️ this Queen performance and how much you got caught up in it!! This recording didn’t show it very well, but at the end of the song Freddie stands in front of Roger and says “shoot out”. This is for the pyrotechnics that shoot out frim under Roger. If you watch the Queen Ifficial video, you will see Freddie abruptly turn to look at Roger, followed by Brian looking. The pyrotechnics cane earlier in the song and poor Roger was quite literally BLOWN OFF his seat and onto the stage floor!! Freddie said “They tried to kill Roger”. 😳. From what I’ve noticed, from then on Freddie stands in front of Roger when the pyro is going to go off.

Awesome reaction! Tie Your Mother Down is a fun rocking song, personally I think it has one of the best rock riffs, and this Wembley performance is one of the best versions of the song. Live Aid is revered for the scale of the event, and the way Queen just stole the show from everyone else. But it is certainly not Queen's best performance, this was business as usual for Queen. Live Aid does have one of the best live versions of We Are The Champions, it is actually a really difficult song to sing. But generally it is really a performance for more casual fans. If you look at bootlegs people will pick very different shows as the best, New Castle, second night 1979, usually comes up as one of the best, or Leiden 1986.
Filmed shows are something different.
Montreal 1981 is good for reactions, but it is not such a fun show to watch. The crowd was subdued and Freddie was pissed off at the filming crew, and the performances are random, they don't follow each other consecutively as the concert progressed.
Personally, I really like Wembley 1986, the whole concert was filmed as one event and the crowd is great. This is also when Freddie's voice was at it's most powerful, so I really enjoy that. But some people don't like Wembley as much because Freddie had a cold. They did two consecutive nights at Wembley, by the second night you can sometimes hear that Freddie's voice is becoming tired, it doesn't matter in my opinion it is great. Rock in Rio 1985, is pretty good, and Japan 1985 is also pretty good. Actually Freddie was diagnosed with full blown Aids in 1987, but according to Mary Austin he knew at this point. The rest of the band did not know anything, he only officially told them in 1989, although they had already suspected his diagnoses.
Milton Keynes is a great show, the crowd is great and Freddie's voice is great, but the footage is not HD. Queen's South American concerts are great such as Suo Paulo and Buenos Aires, everything is great but again the footage it self is not HD or top quality, and the sound is sometimes not that well mixed. Budapest 1986 is great, but the filming does not include any noise from the crowd so it is bit strange. Houston 1977 is popular on bootlegs and on film. It is a great concert, but Queen has not rereleased the footage on DVD, they can do it if they want to. Another great concert is Hammersmith 1979, but again Queen have not rereleased this footage on DVD. A lot of these concerts are on youtube and they have been upgraded by fans, because they were originally released on VHS. You just have to check out Somebody To Love and Now I am Here from Hammersmith 1979, to see how great that was.

It is very underrated but Queen's early concerts such as live at the Hammersmith 1975 and live at the Rainbow 1974, is really amazing, and the footage and sound is great as well, because it has been released by Queen Productions. These along with Wembley and Milton Keyes are really great.
There are other good concerts to watch as well, but the camera angles are sometimes bad such live in Sydney 1985. Or the sound is bad, such as live at Hyde Park 1976. Or sometimes it is a bit of both if you are looking at fan footage Vienna 1986 (fantastic show but not shot well), Knebworth 1986 (Queen's last show filmed by a fan). Earls Court 1977 is good, but Freddie's microphone had technical problems, his voice often just disappears, some fans have fixed some of the footage and sound. And then you get Japan 1979, generally known as one of Queen's worst shows, but it does have great footage and sound! lol
Queen's 1979 tour was a long tour, and Japan was the very last leg of the tour, they played 14 consecutive days in Japan sometimes twice a day, that is simply a ridiculous schedule. By the time they filmed the show, Freddie's voice was completely shot, his voice was almost gone, and the whole band just looks tired. But there are some decent performances from the show, such as Bicycle Race. Freddie is lucky that his voice recovered from that abuse. People today don't have schedules like that.

What perpetually pisses me off is that they never show Deaky. FYI, he DID sing back up on this (and many songs) contrary to many opinions that he never sang, but the video only shows Brian and Roger. If you look, you can see Deaky at the mike in the background when the focus is on Roger. I saw them live and he DID sing back up frequently.
Their first night at Wembley they played through a downpour and never missed a beat.

I agree that Wembley is definitely the Big Uncle from Live Aid xD. I mean yes live aid is amazing but a whole Queen Concert is of course much better. There is not much to say. I LOVE this song. Especially I love what they did with this song at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert, you'll see that one day. This is a great Song, very heavy kind of rock I love it. Yes Queen made timeless masterpieces, they'll live on forever, I hope so. To me its actually that much of sure that I don't even have to hope for it xD but still. I think Live Aid was THE performance that made them legends. Because they stole the day from so many colossal acts. That said, I think both the Wembley and Montreal ‘81 concerts top Live Aid in sheer performance brilliance. They. Are. Incredible. And people will say, “Freddie’s vocals weren’t good at Wembley. A lot of cracks and straining.” Yeah, and they weren’t at Live Aid, either. It didn’t matter. It’s the whole package that makes a live show memorable. That’s why I also put the later concerts ahead of Rainbow or Hammersmith Odeon. Both wonderful concerts, I love listening to them. But they didn’t have the stage presence and stage itself developed yet.
While I agree you that the Wembley concerts in 1986 are fantastic (I prefer Saturday's), I think there are a number of factors that put Live Aid over the top for me. Keep in mind you are watching these Wembley reactions one at a time which does not allow you to feel the real pace and pressure of the concert. If you watch the Wembley concert as a whole, I think Live Aid stands out because it is just jam packed hit after hit with no space between songs. I think he took one or two sips of water and that was in passing quickly to the next song. There were no pauses. There was no sound check or special effects and 1.5 billion people around the world were watching, many of which were watching live. To boot, they were under time constraints that required they finish their set or be subject to the power being cut off. You can see the stop light at the bottom of the stage turn red a second after they concluded. They barely made it. Imagine the pressure. They are use to controlling everything and they had none of the dazzling effects they normally have for their shows yet Freddie and the rest of the band were absolutely on fire. Freddie made up for the missing elements with his spontaneous dance with the camera, his peacock strut, and his ability to elicit out-of-this-world crowd participation. Also, the fans at Live Aid were not specifically dedicated Queen fans like they were at Wembley in 1986 as the tickets for Live Aid were already sold before Queen agreed to perform. I think that is why it is considered the greatest live rock performance ever. I believe it's the totality of the situation that put it over the top and certainly it had the largest audience ever for a rock concert. Don't get me wrong, the Wembley 1986 concert was wonderful but it was a completely different atmosphere and they were in complete control of all the elements...as much as you can be for a live performance.

hap when you react to wembley stuff you need to do the saturday night show, the friday night (like this, is a practice for the cameras) but the sat night is far superior in terms of filming, sound and clarity of recording! good though the friday night is the sat night is waaay better! even the very camera angles they used were better

Live Aid did not have the lights and big production that Wembley had. That is where they got that they stole the show, with the other acts Queen topped the list. this concert cannot be topped in that sense though!
