The story behind this song is sort of interesting. Brian May was on the Canary Island of Tenerife studying the stars and interplanetary dust at the observatory there for his Ph.D. (Brian has a Ph.D. in Astrophysics specializing in interplanetary dust). He said that one night he couldn't sleep so he started playing his guitar and making up tunes As he played the notes, he would sing nonsensical words. Putting words, to music, even nonsense lyrics helped his creative process. When he returned to the studio with the band, he present the tune he wrote as a possible new Queen to the group. As he played the tune he sang the lyrics "Tie your mother down". He never intended them to actually be part of the song, they were just something to sing as he played. When he asked Freddie what he thought of the tune, Freddie loved it but he especially loved the lyrics, "Tie Your Mother Down". He told Brian to keep them and he pushed Brian into using them as the inspiration for the whole song.
The best part about buying one of their LP's was that you could never figure out what to expect, except that it would feature Freddie's amazing voice, some cool bass lines, really creative drum parts, and May's unique self-made guitar, with that metallic sound from the British coin he uses for a pick. They always sound operatic or baroque to me. However we describe them, they are four talented singers and songwriting geniuses in one band. That's why the songs all sound so unique. They even had one on the final album that only Freddie and John did one of the songs because the others didn't like it. If you're looking for a surprising one to do, no one covers the song '39 and there are live versions of it. It shows a totally different side of them.
Yes Dr. MAY is legit! He's a half Rockstar Half Astrophysicist 🤟🏻 even Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath's choses Dr.Brian May as a Rock God🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻. I love your reaction and been following your Queen Journey please check out another Fire song Written by Brian May "Now I'm Here" live from same concert Freddie's voice and the band is on Fire!
In the video they made for this song, Roger (the drummer) was blown off the stool he was sitting on (to play the drums) because the explosives were a little to much.
As shy and reserved as he was in his private life, Freddie just loved large crowds to sing to, he loved his fans immensely and was at his showman best at concerts such as Wembley - a brilliant showman, singer and entertainer, thank you Freddie.
Reccomend 'Now I'm Here', Wembley 86. You could watch Now I'm Here, Dragon attack and reprise at MOntreal 82 to give you an idea first, and DA is fantastic and funky. I enjoyed this, good luck on your Queen journey, I'll be watching.
Hell yeah! That looks like Wembley '86, with Freddie jumping around and looking like a high energy banana! They don't make bands this good no more, not even close. :D
My favorite of Brian May's Queen Songs are " '39 ", which he also sang, and "It's Late", which Freddie sang. '39 is a heartbreaking Sci-fi tale with an amazing musical interlude, It's Late is a heartbreaking personal song, with my favorite Brian May guitar solo. Both are also good examples of Queen's ability to produce complex songs (key changes, tempo changes, etc.) which are still cohesive.
This was Wembley Stadium in London, 1986 , 72000 people, the following night I was at Knebworth, officially 120000 people, unofficially closer to 220000 !! Nobody like Freddie or Queen.. Dragon attack live Under pressure live My favourite top 5 would be, Prophets song Somebody to love White queen March of the black queen and Brighton rock, closely followed by pretty much everything else they recorded
Throughout that whole concert the energy remained the same, it never dwindled, they were always full force ahead and never ran out of steam...amazing. I would have love to see them come off stage though and back in the dressing room, did they collapse on the couch?? lol
Brian May said it once: "I'll tell you the truth, I know what happened. Sometimes you get a little riff, and you just put some words with it, and then you don't even think about what they mean. Now I'm remember thinking, now this isn't a good enough title for this song, but everyone said: 'Well actually, it sounds okay,' and so we kind of lyrically built it around that."
Brian May wrote the song on the island of Tenerife while he was studying for his PhD. And he says that he wrote the song on an acoustic guitar. It turned out to be something very different when they finally recorded it a few years later in 1976 for their album release called "A Day at the Races". The concert you used is from 1986 when Queen played several nights at Wembley Stadium in London. Which was the same site for the Freddie Mercury Memorial Concert in 1992 and Queen's legendary Live Aid performance from July 1985. If you want to see similar fan participation, then check out Radio Gaga from that same performance. Brian May built his guitar with his dad in 1963 and has used the same guitar for his entire career. Although for live shows they do now, he has some copies which are used for special songs with different guitar tuning. I think the song you may want to check out is "March of the Black Queen" from Queen II. It is not live but it was a few years before they recorded Bohemian Rhapsody and it has similar characteristics and would I would say is Freddie Mercury;s "Prelude to Bohemian Rhapsody". Another great song.
This is one of my favorite Queen songs, I love the lyrics, cadence and the performance is excellent. Thank you. Next Queen song, White Queen live at Odeon, Hammersmith 1975. This is a live performance that will knock your socks off, I promise.
Great reaction, thanks! Subbed for the Queen journey. Suggest Stone Cold Crazy live at the Rainbow 1974, White Queen live at Hammersmith 1975, Under Pressure live at Wembley 1986, Somebody to Love live at Montreal 1981, Another One Bites the Dust live at Wembley 1986, and One Vision live @ Wembley 1986. And, of course, the 20 min set (viewed in its entirety) from Live Aid 1985 that was voted the best live rock performance ever even to this day and broadcast live to 1.9 billion. Even if you don't react to Live Aid, you should view it for your own enjoyment. It's something everyone should see at least one but it needs to be viewed in it's entirety so you can feel the excitement and the magic that is Queen live at their best. The Queen catalog is huge and they do not disappoint.
After Queen played Live Aid in 1985, they got a huge boost in their profile... In 1986, they released 'A kind of magic' and launched a tour of Europe. A year after Live Aid, Queen headlined and sold out 2 NIGHTS at Wembley stadium (the same venue where Live Aid was held in London) as u see here... they were literally Michael Jackson-popular in the UK at that moment. Freddie had hoped that Queen could become popular in North America once again, since they were megastars everywhere else. Sadly, he would never get that chance... this was Queen's final tour; Freddie Mercury was diagnosed w/ HIV in 1987. 'Tie your mother down' was a song written by Brian May... just cheeky lyrics 😁 It was 1 of Queen's early songs.
Thanks for your reaction! And yes, to be in the show at person is a surreal and Unforgettable experience! I was at Rock in Rio 85 the 2 nights of Queen.... Mind blowing... No words.... Only an eternal love for Queen and the legend Freddie Mercury! 👑❤️
I suggest doing the studio version of their song I’m in Love with My Car. This is in the same album as Bohemian Rhapsody but was written and sung by drummer Roger Taylor. That guy has a super cool voice in his own right and could have been the lead singer in a band that Freddie wasn’t in. He sings the high “Galileo” parts in Bohemian Rhapsody. Please check it out, I think you’ll love it. Brian does amazing guitar work throughout the song too.
Great song and great reaction! 👍 It looks like the best party I never went to! If you like the older stuff, try The Prophets Song or Liar or Stone Cold Crazy. If you like the newer stuff try Innuendo or Show must Go On. Quirky stuff try Seaside Rendezvous. Or if you want soundtrack stuff, try Princes of the Universe from Highlander or Flash from....Flash Gordon! Queen. A genre of their own. Enjoy the ride! 👏👏👏
Awesome stuff Thanks The entire Wembley & Budapest live recordings are epic - especially the 1st 20 minutes - I still fall off my chair watching that ♥️🇿🇦
There's a lot of good live footage from the concert. I believe it was at Wembley Stadium. If you haven't seen it yet Under Pressure from that same concert is excellent.
If you want to check out more recent Brian May, check out Five Finger Death Punch doing a cover of Blue On Black (1st responder tribute song). Brian is the guest lead guitarist. Incredible video, incredible performance!
You should checkout Queen’s song Killer Queen. My favorite concert is still when I saw them back when I was only 10 even though I’ve been to tons of concerts before and since then. My mother was a single parent when I was little so she took me everywhere she went so if she wanted to go to a concert she didn’t believe in leaving me home with a babysitter she just took me with. I’m so thankful that she did because otherwise I probably wouldn’t have been exposed to so many great artists and groups from back in the day that weren’t still touring when I was “old enough “ to go. I was lucky enough to see many greats like Stevie Ray Vaughan(SRV), Queen, Fleetwood Mac, Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR), Three Dog Night, Ram Jam, Scorpions, Black Sabbath, just to name a few. My mother was a firm believer in exposing me to many different types of music when I was young. Only problem with my eclectic taste in music is my husband loves to call me a “Hippie”.
Please do The Miracle! It's from late in their career, after Freddie knew he had AIDS. The official video is beautiful. And that's Dr. Brian May, astrophysicist.
If you really want to see a HUGE crowd, react to Love of My Life Rio '85. There were about 350,000 people & they ALL sang the song IN ENGLISH. I don't think Freddie sang a note until the 2nd verse. 😲
As you liked this, you might like to check out Brian May's Band playing it at the Brixton Academy. Once again, the same song but a completely different interpretation.
You got the gist of the song. Besides telling her to tie her mother down, did you hear the lyric "take your little brother swimming with a brick"? Lol. Get rid of the brother too!

I was one of those people, fantastic day

The GOAT !!!
Dragon Attack Live Montreal Queen always best Live 👍
Queen were great always, but they were especially great just doing simple rock and roll. Love it!
First song I saw them play live. January 1977.
A must play for them at every show.
Queen drew a crowd of 250,000 + per night in RIO...I loved when the crowd sang LOVE OF MY LIFE...check it out

To say the least!

Dr. Brian May is also a an astrophysicist. Briliant on all levels. 🎸🎸🎶🎶
You play Freddie … and anything Queen … I subscribe immediately 😂
Ya got that right!
You liked Dragon attack studio version, you will love Montreal 1981 version. React to it !

Great reaction, check out their medley piece live at Wembley...LAP OF THE GODS/SEVEN SEAS OF RHYE/TEAR IT UP...
Love the reaction….if you want to see a REALLY BIG crowd with a beautiful song thrown in check out Love of My Life at Rock in Rio.
Try “Death on Two Legs” by Queen if you want some more savage lyrics.
Throughout that whole concert the energy remained the same, it never dwindled, they were always full force ahead and never ran out of steam...amazing. I would have love to see them come off stage though and back in the dressing room, did they collapse on the couch?? lol
Love your comment… yes !!! How did they do it 😂♥️

Brian May was, is the backbone of Queen. This song was written by him and it also represent the backbone of Queen music, meaning classic rock.
Take your little brother swimming with brick..that's alright!
Love this song
Brian's on fire
