Welcome To Survival-Russia. One of the very best Outdoors and Survival related communities on UA-cam, and yes, It's a pretty good Channel too :)
My name is Lars. I'm From Denmark but I live in Rural Russia now. I live at a Homestead in wild nature surrounded by a huge forest.
On The Survival-Russia channel we do all things related to the Outdoors Lifestyle. I share my thoughts and experiences on Survival Techniques for the woodlands of the Northern Hemisphere. the Reality of Survival. I share Techniques and ways of the Siberian Tribesmen and the Russian Longhunters of the older days. Things not shown outside of Russia very much.
On this Channel we also do Off-Road driving, Vehicle builds, Metal Detecting, all things Outdoors basically. Enjoy!
OK Guys. Some Viewers Seem To Be Noticing "Something" Running Across The Trail At About 07:25. I Think It Is Just A Stick In The Foreground Close To The Camera Creating An Illusion Of Movement Across The Trail. Do You Agree Or Not?
Agreed...it looks like a stick to me.
Watched full screen .25 speed HD its a stick XD
had me foxed on mobile at work XD
Agree --- foreground
Stick,
What is Bigfoot called in Russian? I think it was him.
Brutal test. Glad you finally got out!
Jeff it is super cool that you watch survival russia too lol small world
@@aidans4866 +Taofledermaus pops up on loads of new UA-camrs I stumble on and like. Pretty sure he's either stalking me or UA-cam is trending its suggestions for me based on what he watches/comments. Pretty ballsy given how much they demonetise him :D
After the tracked vehicle: Lars realizes that a helicopter is not the worst option. :D
What a wonderful autumn drive, the little 15 HP machine really has torque!
I hope you are alright, you look very tired - or maybe it is the light. Take care!!
I was very tired after that trip. The last 800 meters or so out to the road was absolutely insane :) I threw a track less than 100 meters from the road. This trip was a battle :)
+ lars I'd bet that last 800 meters you had one thing on your mind GAZ 71!
Any sort of offroad on a machine where you don't sit on top with 4wd gets tiring very quick.
That was a close one..... nearly an unplanned overnight stopover
Would have made some interesting filming. Glad you made it home as planned though.
I was out of cell phone coverage and I knew my wife would be very nervous once it got dark. I normally come home around dark. I might just had stayed if I had been able to inform her. The last part of the trip in the dark was crazy :)
Honestly, the times when things dont go as you planned, is the times I like the best. Because it is at this point your knowledge/skill/creativity and the quality of your equipment are being tested. Keep up the good work Lars.
It is always fun afterwards :) I learned a lot about The Beast on that trip.
Survival Russia Good point about the beasts limitation and capabilities as well as your own physical limits. It must surely take a lot of the enjoyment out of an exploratory trek in the woods when you arrive home or at your destination in the woods somewhat exhausted. The only drawback the beast has in spite of all it's capabilities is the amount of physical exertion needed to operate it.The Gaz 71 still sounds like the vehicle that would fit your needs as well as carry the beast for scouting or an emergency return home vehicle if you got the Gaz71 stuck.
Ive seen these in a hardware store in Sortavala and always wondered what theyre for and finally I know. Awesome little vehicle!
I seriously doubt you can find this specific model outside of Russia. Maybe something like it, but surely not this Crawler :)
Sortavala is former finnish town located in russia these days :)
Badger already said it but yeah Sortavala (Сортавала) is located in the Republic of Karelia on the shore of Ladoga about 30 kilometers away from the border
For English not being your native language, you do really well. You do better than a lot of Americans. Tra-la-la-la!
A +30 Km Roundtrip In the Mini-Crawler (The Beast) In Very Tough Terrain. Sub-Share, Sub-Like And Subscribe :)
That was an excellent adventure. And, you're right, that mini crawler is a beast! Glad you made it home safe!
Lars, years ago the Canadian's made a snow machine called a Husky; 2 tracks, like your Koira with a two ski sled behind. Instead of a hinged steering bar, theirs was a rigid "U" running across the back and attached to the frame. That rigid design allows one to push down while climbing a drift or berm as well as providing a fixed bar when you have to manhandle it out of trouble. You might consider welding or bolting a rigid bar on your machine for better control.
It isn't a bad design, I'd had no trouble dragging 3 caribou over 3 foot deep (meter deep) snow 6 or 8 miles back to my hunting camp with a Husky.
I can tell that proficiency in the operation of that vehicle, takes practice . and you have mastered it .
Lars, I'm not sure if you've ever heard of the STALKER game series, that has players surviving in a post apocalyptic Russia, but they'll tell the survivors/stalkers not to get lost in "The Zone." That's what I think about whenever you post vids traversing all this crazy terrain. Glad you didn't get lost to the "Zone!" Good stuff, man.
Fantastic game. One of my all time favourites, especially Call of Pripyat.
Cheeki breeki!
Yes Lars I think you finally lost it. Epic journey and I think you have a good argument when it comes to the big vehicle. One wrong move and the crawler could be lost, especially the swamp area. All the provisions could go with it. Keep safe big fella great vid as always 👍
Tracks are really the only thing which works here, all year round. In winter you can get away with wheels on the logging trails, but not if you want drive outside of the trails. Thank you :)
Could be lost but it being so narrow you can really make your own trail almost anywhere.
@@SurvivalRussia doesn't the ground freeze up? Why can't you leave the trails in the winter?
That Mini Crawler is a beast , it don't just ride through the terrain it digs its way through . Awesome :-)
Your expression when stepping in that hole was hilarious! Gonna have to put yourself some side rails on your seat to keep you from sliding all the way off. Great video, God bless.
in Brazil we have a similar vehicle is called TOBATA
it does not have mats but it is used for heavy work on hostile terrain.
Congratulations on the video!
it's a great job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think the crawler should become equipped with a small electric winch as well as a back up manual winch. For less than about 100$ you could ensure you dont get too stuck. The crawler is handy, but it obviously has limitations. Keep up the great videos!! 👍👍
Awesome. Keep printing tool handy at all times in the bush. We all need to help Lars get the big tracked rig. You can put the beast in the back for scouting .
That is exactly what I have in my plans Sam :) A great couple.
The minicrawler is like a faithful dog team!
It kind of is Gary :) Thank you!
Lars that was crazy, much more mud then we have considering days of snow and rain here. We call them "cross roads" here in rural Northwestern Ontario. That machine (The Beast) is quite impressive. Yes it can go places due to weight displacement that would gobble up a 4x4 quite easily for sure. The ruts even for my 4 wheeler quad can be a challenge. Yesterday my buddy knocked his tire off the rim but good thing we had ratchet straps and a 12v compressor we were able to fix the tire. Stumps are a big issue as well in the longer grass and in the bogs. Take care Lars and have a great weekend my friend. Cheers Fred
"Ruts". They are called Ruts :) Thank you Fred. I will try and remember that! That must have been a rough ride you guys were on as well :)
If you do get a larger tracked vehicle, keep the little beast, it’s still a handy machine. Lars and Beast’s excellent adventures....👏👍✌️
The Beast will fit nicely in the cargo bay of a GAZ 71 :)
Survival Russia lol 😂
One rule I learned long ago when I was a project manager: all tasks are 90% done for 90% of the time. :D
You should consider taking some of those track plates with you, to cross those water filled trenches and holes.
Thanks for a great video!
'The Beast', very apt name for the crawler. What an adventure Lars! The trepidation in your voice was scoffed at by 'The Beast'!...'Puuh!..What are you concerned about, Lets get it done'! lol. Awesome video mate. Glad it went well, thank you for sharing..oh, and the new 'studio' looks great mate! :)
You are a brave man, Lars. That is for dang sure. Thanks for taking us on this adventure. Hope Mrs. S.R. is feeling better.
I just came across your videos the other day - thank you for sharing... I think you might consider a little come along winch and light strap incase you get your little crawler really really stuck brother...
Lars, I am reminded of the old joke: "Where does a bear crap?" Lol!
That little thing is AWESOME!
That little crawler is awesome! Especially for only 15 horsepower. Pretty cool video!
So impressive how it just skips right over those bogs! Such a useful little thing.
Indeed we do see why you need a serious tracked vehicle. As long as there are logging operations on your grounds the mini-crawler will be slow going and even insufficient. Glad you made it home all right!
Now that looks like a legitimate off road test! Surely you have built some strong opinions regarding the strengths and weaknesses of this vehicle.
Lars, thanks for sharing , and bringing us along for the ride , some ot that trip was pretty hairy , but you overcame and were victorious 🏁
Great video Lars. I bet you can't wait for it to get cold. Sledding along with the minibeast will be awesome. Glad the misses is home.
Good to see you take the Mini-Crawler out for a full-on scouting mission. That mud in the first half of the video was absolutely brutal, I thought it might eat your rubber boots! Watching you wrestle the M-C out of the mud was suspenseful as well, haha. An awesome video. This makes me salivate thinking about the possibilities of a large crawler vehicle on expeditions. Pardon me not commenting for a few. I was/felt indisposed for a while, have to go back and watch the other videos you put out as well. I hope you and the family are well Lars!
Thanks Algiz :) No worries, as I know that feeling myself.
That was an awesome video, I am glad you got it done! The beast is a fitting name for the Mini-crawler, because it definitely is a beast. Can't wait for the Maxi-Crawler!!!
Now that was a true "Survival Russia"-trip!
Yeeehaaaaah that looked fun, not done anything like that since I sold my quad, I need a mini crawler beast in my life 👌
I have that same engine on my Snowblower! It is an American made Ariens brand. 15 hp, 28" cut (710mm) with tracks and hyrdostatic transmission. Just bought it. I can't wait to try it in some real good heavy slush and see what it can handle.
That machine is fantastic the pulling power you have. Also that backcountry is remarkably difficult to navigate. I must say you have big balls to chance such a distance in it. The woods are lovely, dark and deep,. But I have promises to keep,. And miles to go before I sleep,.. Robert Frost.. Wonderful adventure.
That "crawler" is flipping AWESOME!
It deserves some kind of closed driving compartment. Something improvised, just to keep you out of the weather.
That thing will be a beast and a half when the snow falls.
Amazing machine.
A cab on that little thing! I don't think so, it will beat the hell out of you!
Some comments on crawler modifications. Since you do not sit on the crawler but behind it and your seating position changes in relation to the handlebar, I would change the throttle from a twist grip to a thumb or finger grip throttle with finer control of the engine speed. For running in the swamps I would change the chain sprockets for a slightly slower speed and add a wide beam or flood type head light. I can't wait to see if the manufacturer provides you with a reverse gear transmission that would really help. I AM surprised at how well that little beast works.
From an old Dane living in Florida USA.
That is an impressive machine. Not only is it capable but fairly simple to fix on site.
Thank you for all your hard work Lars. This Video clearly took a lot of extra setup for filming. Very entertaining!!
I see you made lots of stops, efforts to make the footage of crawling itslef interesting for us. Thanks a lot.
Great Vid Lars ! Wow you saying that was "tricky" was understating the possible trouble, but great positive attitude. You got it done ;) you're very calm under stress - great great job Lars and thanks for keeping the video rolling, many would have abandoned the video... I was on the edge of my seat to see what happened...of course I knew you lived to publish the video, ha ! . Anyway, great adventure, great skills, and what a great little mud beast she is like you said..... "... and Tra La La La la..."
You are crazy man. Much respect to the mini beast.
Around 9:55 is about when I think you need some type of "outrigger" to keep the mini crawler upright when the road gets rough. I dunno how it might be done. Maybe some kind of "rope winch" might be helpful in a "crisis". With "Track Vehicles" sliding sideways is a problem, maybe some kind of "Narrow Oak Ski" outboard on either side that you could swing out and engage the ground to keep things upright, and sliding forward. You are a welder, you could dream something up. Meanwhile we should look for solutions for how others solve those problems. Like wider tracks, or add on track extensions. Good Luck.
Can you stand up on the platform and drive? Awesome job!! You need a Go-Lite for the beast.
Good one. The Crawling Beast has been proven to be awesome.
That was great Lars. What a place you live in. True adventuring.
Lars, great job with infield repair work. Never fun solo.
Awesome little trip can't believe the beast made it out there. Thanks for sharing
I have not seen a vehicle like this in the States. Bet they would sell a bunch of them here!
Although the mini crawler has some limitations, which obviously it will have given it's size.
It is still AWESOME. ...
Can't wait to see the bigger version in action tho...Double AWESOMENESS....
"English is not my native language" perhaps not but your insainely fluid. And If all your going to miss is "cross road" vs road cross, while motoring through Russian woods, then that's hardly bad. 1000 times better than my Danish or Russian ;)
First video of yours I've watched. Loved it and have subscribed.
When I first saw the crawler I thought it was a lawn mower, but my god its an awesome design. And I love the tracks on inflatable tyres. As I've seen from +Matsimus 's channel. Repairing thrown tracks on full tanks is a pain in the rear. So this looks like it would really help.
Great video. Reminded me off having to "break track" on our APC's, which did not have inflatable road wheels!
Sorry I don't know your first name but I'd really enjoy being out there with you it look's awesome exploring the land totally enjoyed watching through your eyes while you drive. What a awesomely funky journey, love the whole experience it looks awesome 🏴👍
That crawler is BEAST! GREAT VIDEO 👍
People had these exact machines in Canada 60+ years ago , never knew it before but i was watching a program about vintage snowmobiles and seen some on there.
The tractor trailer arrangement was made but with one track more like the current Snowdog. (Available in CDN)
Possible dual tracks were made as well, so many companies were in the game in the early days, if made at all they are very rare. So similar concept but not exact, the dula tracks should have some advantages. Cheers :)
Lars,
Great Video and now I see why you wanted "The Beast". I can see it being useful in a lot of conditions. It will be interesting to see how it works in deep snow. (You might have to put Skis on the Trailer.)
As someone else mentioned putting some Logs or even Perforated Metal Panels in the Trailer could be useful for fording the Creeks and deep Ruts. (Something like pieces of the perforated Ramps they make to get things in and out of Trailers.)
I love it , truly love it to see you struggling trough ruff terrain with the crawler. I think it is an Awesome little vehicle . Nice one again Lars ! Greetz from the Netherlands.
Thanks Martin :)
Hé Martin, ik hier? ;-)
@@rolandpl1958 .
Your English is excellent, don't worry about that, excellent editing, thanks for all your work!
excellent road test, wait until the forest dries up. then that "thing will "fly"!
I have never seen such a Thing as the Beast. Interesting little crawler. Thanks for sharing.
Silky , getting it done!! Glad you and the Beast got home in one piece! Thank You for sharing this adventure, it was awesome!
You would really need a SHERP ATV.
Yes, but a SHERP is way too expensive for me :)
Survival Russia what about a hägglunds bandvagon 206? but maby they have become expencive now also.
@@SurvivalRussia Ask for sponsors or crowd fund, it really would be the perfect transport for you Lars.
That, without a doubt, was one for the books. The videography was absolutely awesome. As versatile as the "Beast" is, it is no less subject to the laws of the Boreal forest. Would a Louisiana bayou swamp buggy be useful?
One for the books for sure Fred. I was well spent after that trip :) A swamp buggy would work parts of the year.
That thing is so cool! And, I love seeing the territory around where you live!
Interesting machine you have there. Excellent test of its capabilities...and you endurance! Thanks for sharing!
Nice mud war with the crawler🙂 u should mount some epic awesome led lights on the crawler! Have a awesome day!
Awesome video Lars amazing little machine, carry a small hand winch or heavy duty teacher strap with a piece of iron to act like an anchor if you get in a real heavy spot, so you don't strain moving it out there, on the next tracked vehicle I would go for the military version and not the home built one was nothing compared to the original, plus has all the cab and body, parts aswell etc, comfy too... well semi hahaha
Man Lars you do need a tank or a tracked vehicle out there, that's some crazy terrain!!!
Yes I do, and you guys only saw a part of the terrain :)
@@SurvivalRussia Thanks for taking us along, I love seeing all that wilderness you have to play in. :)
Rather the track fall off the little one than a big one out there by myself
Great video once again. These expedition videos are more than welcome :) It would also be nice, if you made a hangout video at the hunting cabin.
I will keep that in mind Badger :)
😁😁.
MINI MONSTER...😀
Bin binge watching the GAZ.
It is a all terrain Monster. The logging tracked winch tractor....is a BEAST! they have become some of my favorite vids. They are a tracked diesel powered winch. Crazy powerful!
There weight to HP has got to be off the chart!
Best wishes Lars!
Lars, epic trial for the " Beast "! You mentioned a regular 4x4 vehicle having trouble along the path you took. I've seen quite a few UAZ, LADAS,etc, adapting tractor portal hubs to allow much larger tires. Maybe something for the SRV? As for the " creek ", you had the Katana boy 500, why not cut some downed logs and make a bridge next time? Just a couple things to consider. Great video!
Thank you , Lars ,
Would have been good to see you hit the base , (kinda complete the trip for us , ) ,
You tease , maybe next time, Hu?,
Yes, but it was dark and I was totally wasted after that trip, so I was not even thinking about recording when I came home :)
I was going to say that little machine certainly is a beast and not only is it a beast, but it's a tough son of a beast...
That mini crawler is amazing! Beast, indeed!
Thankyou, Lars
What would happen if you injured yourself?
Do you carry a radio or a phone or a satellite tracker device?
Thanks for the videos. Great work; sir.
Great Video Lars. I'm sure that wasn't easy to film. Things could have easily turned sour and you might have been there overnight. Hopefully you had a tarp and compact sleeping system with you. I always have a super shelter setup. As I'm sure you have seen Loney at Far North Bushcraft And Survival does. I have done this many times in cold winter and it works. He is not where I learned this from, but you get the idea. Great to watch and see your adventures as always. Take care
That was a great test for the new vehicle. I love this video because I just enjoy seeing the Russian forest! Your videos are awesome, please do more videos in the forest and when you go to town. However, I like all of the videos you do.
Got to love that mini crawler, well named the beast
That is a nice mini crawler and it must be very handy when going off road there. It must be nice to have a nice vehicle to hook up to the trailer and get you to places where you can't walk to easily.
Can you attach a couple of small logs to the side? To take off and use for traction. Like the Russian T tanks often have. Help get you out of ruts etc. Give the track something solid to grip to. Need only be small bits, even pallet wood. Even if it gets chewed up it does the job, just replace. Can attach some cord to help handle the wood in and out of the water. Can help prop the vehicle up if you need to refit a thrown track too, so can use both hands.
Rough terrain that would challenge the best ATV and a good driver. I wonder how an Argo or even a horse would do. Those look more like winter roads to me. It would be hell to do in the summer with all the insects. Thanks for the video. You need a winch or rope a long.
Now if that wasn't fun I don't know, to watch that is, great job there Lars. The Beast!
That's awesome thank you for the video Sir well done 🇺🇸
Love that coat still ! But brother that was touchy ! But the little guy did good !! And your home ! Great adventure !!! TAKE PRINTING TOOL !!! LOLbe safe brother
Lars, you (and The Beast) are truly amazing!!! We love you!!
I have been in situations very similar to that, and there is such a satisfying feeling when you overcome the obstacles. This is my favorite video so far. congratulations
Yes indeed :) Thank you!
Wow Lars, that is some extreme, extreme terrain!!! My version of extreme terrain in NZ looks totally different so its a real mind bender to see such tough, out there off road driving yet its all flat with forestry roads that have the semblance of being safe, easy going and inviting! lol :-) Its certainly some scary and unforgiving wilderness you have at your door step in Russia! No wonder Russian people have such a reputation for toughness, resilience, no frills and being too the point. It either works or it doesn't and the fluff doesn't matter in that type of land!
HATS OFF LARS !!! good of you i like your determination and skills. Not many ppl. can do what you do and WIN it. LOVE IT!
Thank you :)
Hey man, I'm really enjoying your video's. Thanks for posting and keep up the good work. Cheers from The Netherlands.
Cheers Lars. Thanks for sharing the adventures. All power to you! Keep keeping on!
I fully agree that you need a full sized tracked amphibious vehicle to make it through those trails and it must be something reliable, preferably something that has a capable winch on it as well for those times you get it mired...and you will if you use it enough in those conditions.
The best part is that I have such a vehicle now :) It needs a little fixing up though.
Yes! I've been following your story with great interest. Quite a machine, although with any old piece of equipment come a myriad of problems, most of which are a result of heavy use, so good luck with all of that.
That front light with the narrow beam looks less than optimal. Wouldn't it be better if it spread more?
Hello Lars from Canada! Great video, look forward to more of your adventures.Your back country looks a lot like our moose country...........yours maybe a little more wet ( soggy )You need a small hand winch on your crawler.Fred
Lars putting the track back on the "beast" is easy by yourself, imagine putting the track back on the large vehicle
It's is actually easier than you might think :)
@@SurvivalRussia I would just hate to see you stranded and have to leave your machine in the bush during winter.
Just like anything else, a few fbombs will help with getting that track back on.
Looking at your terrain... an 8 wheel ARGO makes a lot of sense. The track kit designed for it made in Alaska is better than stock tracks for your wet conditions. Unfortunately, these have become in my opinion too darn expensive.
It was a really awesome video commander Lars! Very exciting! A really cool machine!
That is quite the competent little thing! I don't think anything that size short of a quad or off-road bike could do the same and those would fail in the deep snow.
Great adventure! Thanks for bringing us along Lars! Bravo! Whoo HOo! That is what we live for!~
