Came here to say the same thing. I love that you and other young interior design influencers are encouraging purchasing vintage, antiques, thrift store and flea market finds. So much better for the environment.
Some many people want the cheapest items they can get and it's just not substantible. These items generally just don't last and end up in the landfill. When you buy something, make sure it's quality and built to last.
I think 75-80% of my home decor is thrifted, repurposed, vintage. antique. I love the stories and memories behind each item. Hunting for great finds is therapeutic for me. I love watching your thrifting videos too!
Mine too. The percentage is probably 85% for me. If what I need is so specialized/unique whatever that I can't find it preowned, it usually means it has to be ordered custom made anyway. When we renovated our kitchen the lantern style lights were newer and only the more expensive brands carried them. Plus I needed 3 and it's difficult to find three of anything. So I ordered them bespoke from an American manufacturer. All the other lighting in my house is high end bargains. I figured what I saved there makes up for the expensive of buying new, but it hurt to pay retail. My eat in kitchen banquette had to be an exact width to fit my bay window. Nothing I found preowned (or new even)was nearly wide enough, so I had to custom ordered from NC. Once I walked into a fancy store in Williamsburg and fell in love with a mirror and said, "One day" and some 15 years later I saw it on CL. The seller could see how excited I was and wouldn't budge on price. I have it in my bedroom. I love bargains and decorating.
@pippadawg7037 I love the uniqueness it seems like your home has😊 My home 🏡 is very old & used to be a barn & all of the homes on the same side of my street were at one point part of the land but was sold off over the year's. We've filled it with antique furniture from estate sales. My husband found our home but knew I could do something special with it & we made an offer soon as we walked in. We always get compliments because the outside doesn't compare to the inside. The all exposed brick fireplace wall, beams on the ceiling, & actual man cave❤ We're passing it down to our children, never selling it😊❤️🩷🧡💛💚💙🩵💜🤎

I love feed and wax too, but the only thing to remember when you use it, is that if you think you might want to change the stain or tone of the wood color down the line, the wax is very difficult to penetrate. So, if you ever want to change anything about the color of the wood, you have to basically sand the entire piece in order to remove the wax. Just a good thing to know. 😊
Or, use Howard Restor a Finish. It's not as perfect as actually stripping refinishing, but it's also a lot less work. You end up with something that looks much nicer (makes scratches less noticeable and takes away water rings)
@@bfranklin1052 Floor refinishers would beg to differ. They hate it when you have waxed the floors and wouldn't agree the wax can be removed with mineral spirits either. So really think long and hard before waxing a hardwood floor. If you know you would never refinish and the color is absolutely perfect for you forever, go for it. Sometimes a wood floor has already been sanded a few times and doesn't even have another sand job in it so by all means wax. The English don't change floor colors as often as Americans and they are huge on waxing the hardwoods. But Americans are always deciding the floors are too warm or too cool or too dark or too light so just know waxing is going to cost you when you go to change them up.
I’m at a complete disconnect from most of your suggestions because a $500 chair you consider a great deal and that would be my entire budget for my entire large apartment. Not all of us have that kind of money to drop on vintage and antiques, etc. I did however, on your recommendation get some feed and wax and that stuff is brilliant. You are completely my favourite decorator and designer. I love your stuff.
Just finished watching XO MaCenna and the notification popped up while I just started to another video.... best believe that I will quickly abandoned anyone for Lone Fox or MaCenna🎉😊 Im sorry not sorry 🤭
Vintage is the way to go! Definitely set your Facebook marketplace location to rich areas for when seniors are looking to downsize. I managed to score these antique teak art deco dining chairs for $20 each. The old lady was telling me that her father bought the dining set in 1917 which would make these chairs over a century old, but they look brand new!
Hey Drew, I wanted to share something with you about that stuff you use on the wood. If you use a paint brush specifically made for chaulk paint, there's a larger one with a pointed tip you'll not use as much product as it will be on the brush & not a cloth it's easier to get into the areas that fingers can't. Store the brush in a zip lock for next project & it's ready to go .
To buy vintage or second hand, especially from someone who has died - is to honor that person's loves and hopes, imo. It shows reverence to their life.
Drew, I am SO loving your home! You are my #1 favorite UA-camr! I follow some design gurus (including Arvin Olano), a couple of fashion UA-camrs, several travel experts, and a couple of perfume reviewers. Yours is the only one that I'm counting down the days until your next video, and I DEFINITELY notice when you're "late". lol. I literally don't notice that with any other UA-camr. At any rate, I came here to say THANK YOU for explaining about lighting. As a designer and lighting specialist, lighting is about the only thing that I will tell people "no, you can't have that" if they try to go below 2700K or above 3000K (K stands for "Kelvin") for residential purposes. The sad thing is that most big box stores tend to carry HORRID lighting in the 4000K-5000K lighting, marketing it as "Daylight". I'm not quite sure why that is, but they are so blue that they wash the color out of everything in your house, including the humans! You spend so much time and money curating a perfectly beautiful home and then, BAM, you throw it all away with the selection of your light bulbs. So sad. To clear up another misconception, a higher Kelvin temperature does not equal a brighter lightbulb. It has to do with color only. Let's go back to choosing those warmer tones to make your house feel cozier and less cold. Even with grey tones in your home (perhaps ESPECIALLY with grey tones in your home) you have to add in some warmer elements or you'll wind up feeling like you're living in a cold and sterile environment. Thank you. Rant over. :)
I have used the feed and wax for years. If you have an ornate section on a piece of furniture use a stencil brush to push the product into the intricate areas. I also have used it on my cast iron bistro table on my back porch. It darkens the black and gives it a little protection from the elements. Great product.
Old English works the same I think as Feed -n-wax but without the wax. I go through so much Old English but it keeps antique woods so moisturized and makes then last.
Much more fun to look at vintage than all new stuff. I'd rather achieve a look that has been curated over time instead of a what's in decor store and is hot at the moment. Decorate with things that make you happy and of course that look well together. TFS and Happy Friday everyone!
I still love what you're doing with the house. We all need to be creative within our own budget. You've inspired me to be more open to vintage. It takes time to curate.
I love all of your tips! Especially bringing in one of a kind items so our homes don’t look like a Target show room. Also love not forgetting the touch ups when painting! Have a great day, Drew! xo
Good advice about paying attention to the Kelvin values of light bulbs! An employee at Menard's explained this to me and it changed my life! No more blue -tinged icky lights at my house!
I learned this from a woman that worked for Southerbys. Got a scratch. Use those round tins of wax shoe polish to match the wood. Buff then use your polish.
Just realized, am of the age that most of my things are now considered vintage, with some antique. Just need to update them. You make things nice for us, things will come togeather after all, Thanks Drew of Lone Fox!
Watching your channel has inspired me to experiment. I find I really like mixing up my furniture. I have vintage pieces (dresser, sleigh bed, dining table, upholstered chair, desk, ceramic vases) mixed with contemporary pieces and love the look. I also have a few antiques - a nightstand (originally a side table) made in 1849 and a large ceramic bowl (originally my grandmother’s) that was made in 1920.
Love your design style and tips! This is such a great channel! ❤ I will add a quick one of my own. You can also, (inexpensively) revive tired, dry wood pieces with a mixture of two parts olive oil and one part white vinegar. (Can also add a drop or two of your favorite scent of essential oil) You don't need much. Mix it well, rub it on, let it sit and soak in for a few minutes, then buff it out well with an old T Shirt. I have done this for years and have never had a problem with smell or rancidity. If you are nervous about trying it, do it on a test section first. Furniture looks amazing when finished!
I work a side job to have some fun money once in a while.. It is super fun to go looking around at the last day of Estate sales where people lower their prices and want to get rid of everything that is still on the property. Sometimes yard sales at a neighbor's house or refurbishing roadside find can work for some of your decor ideas! Im a single parent on a budget, so definitely a bargain shopper and i like unique items that bring everything together.
The "mixed metal" idea in the kitchen is almost compulsory when appliances don't match drawer pulls, etc. I'd love to find a mixed-metal pots and pans set that would bring it all together so it looked like a purposeful design!
Drew, I feel like I hardly ever comment, but I just wanted to share how much I appreciate your videos. I'm preparing to move, so taking notes on these tips as I plan some new decor. Thank you!
Do you have a full-time housekeeper? Who dusts? Love your work, love your flare, love your design soul --- In addition to a love of design, a person would need a love of cleaning and vacuuming - Checked out your site for the first time, lovely items - never seen such a massive selection of items, soon poetry barn will have competition. ❤❤❤ i love the comment about "things being haunted". I know exactly what you're talking about. I'm a "sensitive" who feels great sadness or weirdness in building, places, bridges... and I've always had hard time at estate sales. I will try your suggestion about "giving a well loved piece a new home", and see how that works. Love your stuff!
Drew, love your videos and on your comment on vintage and antique you are correct I have furniture from my grandfather home first set he bought from 1915 have claw feet & metal wheels from hutch dining table and dressers , always have been into furniture, items that are old for the past 40 years my room is all Asian inspired prices from my Japanese aunt from marriage pre-occupied Japan and newer they are all made to last not like todays “ hot trends “
Pieces that stand the test of time are worth it, like his under $500 chair. I am willing to save to get something in that price range that would most likely cost more new, today. Thank you for your tips Drew and your home has come together so beautifully.
I appreciate you so much. I need to take a leap. I an amazing space and its empty and off. Wish you lived near. This has been wonderful to watch. Thank you. Monica
Oh my gosh. My home was just like that. 1928 Spanish Mediterranean. Bull nose moldings, random-plank hardwood flooring, arches, built-ins. Sigh. I moved away and I am still sad. Nice to see your place.
True... I founded so amazing piece in thrift stores... sometimes I don't keep them cause it's like haunted haha but yes they definitively bring a lot of caractere in my home
I just installed the paintable outlet covers and installed a brass one for the light switch and it made alllll the difference 👌🏻 definitely upped the look and made it more seamless. Great ideas!
Love all your ideas.... I am in the middle of building mg first penthouse and I am so overwhelmed by the difficulty of finding what I want, because I love so many different types of styles
Different styles are great! Don't match everything, especially your furniture. Color with your accents and accessories. If you love a piece and you can picture it somewhere in your house, get it. Enjoy your journey.
Thanks for these great tips and reminders Drew. And never apologise for giving yourself and your amazing web shop a plug. You give us so much amazing inspiration and free content, so youre entitled to plug away to your hearts content as far as Im concerned.
Floor-to-ceiling curtains I've been doing for fifty-five years lol but I still love it when I do it in a friend's home and then mine's are blown away, especially in small rooms
You are a wizard Harry...... er I mean Drew! 😉 LOVE your talent, energy, and willingness to share! Thanks so much for all you do! Make a book! It will fly off the shelves and of course, I'll want a signed copy. LOL
I think you are amazing!!! Your talent makes me drool. I can see the love and joy that you put into your work. Your dedication and effort is contagious!! You make me smile and get up off the sofa. 😂 and look for ways to improve my living space. Much love respect and prosperity to you. ❤
No - can keep up with u on money....... Antiques and everything is so darn expensive these days. Keep what you have and use them in other areas...... Don't go spending money you don't have. Thank you drew....... Great video to learn things!!!!!!!!. ❤🎉
i love your channel... we just moved and i'm busy buying couch, desk, rug, gallery wall, and even though we are only going to be here for a year, i'm totally nesting
Re: rugs and sizes, I have found rugs that are considered too small (and cheaper) that I like so I buy them and layer them over larger rugs that coordinate. I have a Moroccan rug that's larger than my big coffee table, but not enough for the living room furniture so I added a neutral 'tribal' rug under it. Also, a great way to add color to a room. I did my last living room in a Santa Fe, NM style and the colors are stunning.
I love everything you showed in this video n alot i have already done. But all u showed me opened more ideas thank you n i love vintage n used furniture ❤️
Thanks for the tip of Feed & Wax. I have one antique piece that I will be purchasing this for. It looks so dried out so can’t wait to give it new life! ❤😊
Wow. These were actually usable tips. I am really good with decor and I've done many of these things instinctually, but having all of these good tips in one video is a nice reminder that I can refer back to whenever I'm doing a room. Thank you!
Really good tips! I would have added plants or greenery of some sort, so so important to make a room feel alive and fresh and you are so good at that in your decor. You are a true wizard when it comes to decorating! Love from Sweden ❤
You are so smart about antique pieces. They are well made and have so much character. Love the curtains to the ceiling too.. I’ve done both ideas and it changes the room! Love built in’s too 👏👏👏❤️
Love your little hints..I must say I like my few antiques that I have.. I realize you live in California where prices are crazy compared to other parts of the country..but still high…but sometimes you make me gulp at the price..but you are happy and that’s what counts..Ready for some more DYI that you are so great at!
Another good one Drew. Thank you, I love it when you post your shopping trips to the Long Beach Veterans flea market and your trips to the Rose Bowl. I so enjoyed those places when I lived in LA
Thank you for the ideas. I particularly love the IKEA shelves that you so beautifully made to look like they were built by an old time carpenter. Just stunning.
You are so charming and down to earth Drew. You’re an absolute delight and a font of helpful information. Thank you for sharing yourself, and your artistry🌻
3 days ago. Some paint stores sell a $5 sample so you can “try” before making a commitment. I like to paint the sample on a large white poster board and then I can move it around to see the colour in different locations or different lights.
Yesss, I absolutely love your style. Congratulations on your new venture w/ Desenio! Desenio has made my life so much easier!!! Love your style, changing the world one space at a time. 💚
Vintage is not only more soulful, but much more sustainable. Thank you for promoting this plant-loving form of recycling, Drew!

I’m so happy about this too! It really gives the home character. If you love the piece, it’s sure to love you back!

Your disrespect really shows here. That senior lady shared a large part of her life with you.

I aspire to the Lone Fox look- curated, classy, and timeless. Your house looks SO fabulous!
Your pottery/ceramics display is absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful curation ❤ and definitely worth the wait
Omgosh - I forgot what the Upstairs of your house looked like and I’m so happy you showed clips!!!
The whole time I was watching XO MaCenna I was thinking wouldn’t it be cool if Drew posted today too!!🥰
You are a wizard Harry...... er I mean Drew!
All great tips! I especially love the pottery, wood, and vintage.
PERFECT TIMING FOR THIS VIDEO!
Well done. You really know how to give life to old and beloved items. Kisses and hugs. Luisa from old Portugal
Thank you so much for tip #8!! As an artist it blows my mind that sometimes art is so neglected as part of someone's home.
Best decorating advice I ha e ever seen.
I had never heard of Feed & Wax and purchased it on your recommendation. It really is amazing! Thanks so much. ❤
This was AWESOME, Drew!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Drew!!! I hope you have a great Monday. 🎉🎉🎉 ❤
I love antique shopping!! Great ideas!!
Thank you!
Your home is coming along so lovely. I love your channel always so inspiring.
Love built in’s too 👏👏👏❤️
Loved all the hacks tonight! Your place is so unique-----beautiful! Loved the jars on the fireplace.
I love this video! They're all so amazing but I think tip number #4 is super helpful! Thanks!
I love this video and you have beautiful eyes!!!
Love your little hints..I must say I like my few antiques that I have.. I realize you live in California where prices are crazy compared to other parts of the country..but still high…but sometimes you make me gulp at the price..but you are happy and that’s what counts..Ready for some more DYI that you are so great at!
Thanks!
Could you offer some ideas for where to buy curtains?
Your friends’s black built-in bookcases are gorgeous!
Another good one Drew. Thank you, I love it when you post your shopping trips to the Long Beach Veterans flea market and your trips to the Rose Bowl. I so enjoyed those places when I lived in LA
I love Drew❤ your decor style is perfect for an apt. I'm not use to small spaces but you make everything look so perfect. Thank you. 15:27
Great video. Ps I love your colouring, your hair, eyes and skin tone are perfection together.
Thanks
Thank you for the ideas. I particularly love the IKEA shelves that you so beautifully made to look like they were built by an old time carpenter. Just stunning.
You are so charming and down to earth Drew.
You’re an absolute delight and a font of helpful information.
Thank you for sharing yourself, and your artistry🌻
3 days ago. Some paint stores sell a $5 sample so you can “try” before making a commitment. I like to paint the sample on a large white poster board and then I can move it around to see the colour in different locations or different lights.
Feed n Wax is fantastic. It's better on teak than teak oil. I found that it also cuts down on dusting.
Yes 💯
Yesss, I absolutely love your style. Congratulations on your new venture w/ Desenio! Desenio has made my life so much easier!!! Love your style, changing the world one space at a time. 💚
I "like" before even watching! Love your channel!

Drew, thanks for the ideas! 90 percent of them are NOT expensive for most people. Great content!
