still I can't understand how you ... and him (Chris) manage to remember all the notes of such complex arrangements... maybe I got a short memory ... :)
Good Goly ....That was EPIC !!! You nailed Chris Squire running on all cylinders .especially the writing and arranging .And your presentation is to me just right, being able to watch your hands position . Its like I have the best seats in the house .Thank you for making all of your videos !!!
I kinda guess lm a few years behind everyone in viewing your videos. So I'm working my way through them as they come up. The only thing I can say is that you certainly enjoy playing.
Very well done!!! Chris is my all time favorite musician. This is a very complex bass line ( not to mention one of my favorite songs by Yes) and, frankly, you nailed it!
Incredible and amazingly fun to watch you play all these intricate Chris riffs! I was always watching Steve's hands during YES concerts so your videos fill in the rest of the songs for me. Saw them do this one live in 1979 in NYC.
(I noticed some of you respondents below wonder how Miguel acquired his technique and mastery of the electric bass and how he has such a vast repertoire of complicated Yes songs bass lines flawlessly memorized. Grab a refreshing beverage and kick back a spell 'cause I'm gonna tell you-uns a true strory...forgive me, please, Miguel!) Once upon a time when Miguel was a little boy and showing signs of being musically talented, there was an old woodshed in his parent's backyard (thoughtfully named the Squire Shire) that his mom & pop fixed up for him to study and practice. The woodshed had round-wound carpeting, Filtertron faucets, and even a hamster in spandex with a pronounced front-butt running on a treadmill generator to provide electricity for his amp, overdrive & flanger pedals that Santa brought to Miguel for Christmas one year! He was nicely told by his folks 'If you don't practice your Indonesian P-Bass you can't have a Rickenbacker 4001! How can you have a Rickenbacker 4001 if you don't practice your Indonesian P-Bass!?' When Miguel grew up enough to have sufficient grip/arm strength his parents let him out of the woodshed much more often so as to experience various musical genres, and so he started studying and practicing Jazz and orchestral excerpts on the big double bass. Miguel much preferred pizzicato playing style over arco and found out when he was about 16 or 17 that chicks really seemed to like the look/sound of his Ric - especially when he 'plectrummed' it playing progressive rock covers with his amp turned up loud - over the pudgy muted sound of his acoustic bass plodding through symphonic movements at Lento tempi(!) The little neighbor boy, showing impressive musical talent on the guitar when only a toddler, living next door was not as fortunate as Miguel. See, his parents were absent and abusive and built for him a chicken coop in their back yard and locked the poor child in - to be raised by chickens! Beastly! Er, except the chickens really liked his guitar playing and would peck & scratch out licks, scales, beaky beat brakes, & arpeggios on his First Act guitar fretboard every other day for him to practice. They also forbid him to eat any meat - especially NOT chicken - if he was to receive a real Gibson custom shop white Les Paul with a kill switch that the chickens were saving some of their egg money for as a surprise for the boy one day! Only kernels of corn, some bread crust bits, aphids, and small pebbles were offered by the chickens for the boy to eat. No pudding at all... The boy finally grew up and escaped the shack, disguised himself and the shame he carried inside his foul soul by wearing a Kentucky Fried Chicken bucket over his head so he could go on tour showcasing his blazing fretboard technique - like our subject Miguel likes to do - sans KFC bucket of course(!) Not only did this allow him to earn a living (folks just called him Buckethead as nobody knew his real name) but also to save money so as to hatch a plan to shut down all the chicken processing plants around the world & get certain 'krispy' and 'spicey' items at fast food joints OFF the menu! And to this day the KFC chicken-fried young shredder is still out wandering on perpetual busking tour...looking for a paying audience. Some folks say Buckethead is also a lover of the band Yes and is looking for Miguelbass so they can jam and maybe form a Yes tribute band, or better - audition for membership in and a revival of the real Yes band! It could happen. I hope it happens! (Well, that's the story I heard from somewhere...perhaps from Davie504...or maybe at Vic Wooten's musical Kung foo camp...only Pino P knows! ;-)
Brilliant, Miguel! All your Chris Squire Bass Videos are enjoyable to watch! Your talent deserves more recognition! OMG: 4:14 TO 4:59!!! After watching you perform THIS, I'm just ASTONISHED!
It is a neat shirt and it contrasts nicely with his laser grid background! I'm just a 'hick' from MO but I want to look cool when I play. Well, and I'd like to look 'cooler' overall just hanging out. Where can I shop for a shirt like that? Dollar General? Casey's General Store? ;-)
Did you get that sfz 'sforzando' at 7:17 on the one? I always remember my brother liked that part because Chris accents the "History.." lyric. I saw this tour opening night at MSG New York, Sept 4th, '80.
Hi! I was aware of that rattle or buzz happening - I always loved it and tried to play the extra strength on that beat but of course the original playing can be heard as well.
Nice. I thought it was cool on 'And You And I' Chris plays harmonica on 'the preacher the teacher' part and then threw it to play the bass lick 8th notes w/ something extra after the lyric, 'reach out as forward tastes begin to enter you', you know that one, the crowd loved it. (2 days later it was broadcast '1980/09/06 - Live in New York on youtube I recorded the show on cassette)
Hi Miguel Judging by the big smile on your face I'd say you enjoyed that... As did I and I Have to agree.. definitely best bass player on view here!!! You never disappoint. Superb as ever!!! Ps: singing could do with a little more work though? Lol
I believe it's the Rick - Chris started using the Mouradian bass by the time of 90125 tour - I don't know what was the first song he recorded with it.Thanks!
Very cool Miguel. Did I tell you that I met Chris 2 years ago at NAMM? I was in the Rickenbacker bass booth, and my girl friend and I bumped into our friend Johnny Bruhns. From around the corner I could hear a British accent, and then it hit me, Johnny is friends with Chris! He introduced us, and we got a pic =)
Magnifico! Very nicely done, and with your usual verve! One of my favorite Yes songs, highly underrated. It even contains my FAVORITE BASS NOTE EVER RECORDED, if you can believe I have such a thing. . . at 7:18 here, under the sung word "history." I think of it as the "fart." 8-) And you pulled off the keys/bass duel part very cleanly. I do have a question though: On your website you mention that you used a Tech 21 Bass Driver for this. If you can remember, what settings would you have used on the Bass Driver? Also: Back pickup only?!
Aha :) I know that farting note that Chris plays so well :) There is one similar in "That That is" - a low E, do you remember? :) That's a nice thought - "the favourite bass note" :)) As for the BDDI, I did post my sansamp settings on a few other videos, please watch the Release Release clip because my settings are around there. For this one I used the bridge pickup only. Thank you!
Im happy to know someone else appreciates the "fart" at 7:18 in Machine Messiah... Miguel is awesome! Ive enjoyed watching his videos over and over for years!
Drama is such a wonderful bass-n-guitar driven album. Great playing! Such a great and heavy song!
Chris must be looking down from Heaven at you with a smile on his face! Fabulous performance, my friend.
Thank you very much, dear friend!
The singing along really shows your passion and love for the music, the bass playing is just super impressive
Thank you very much, Ciarán!
To me, the highest point of the bass playing. Not only for Chris, but for any bass man.
Thank you very much, Carlo! Happy to know you enjoyed it!
@@miguelbass would you do a tutorial, to teach us how to play that tune ?
@@carlofernatti9144 thanks for the suggestion, Carlo. I plan to do tutorials in the future.

Great cover! Great song! Great album! GREAT BAND! YESSSSSSSSS!

Amazing, this is my favorite song on the entire album. The keyboards at the last part of the song is so emotional. Thank you Miguel.
Thank you very much for listening, Rod. Hope you enjoy the rest of the videos
Fantastic mate! You have totally got the feel of the great man himself, bless you

Somehow I seem to have missed replying to your comments Simeon! Thank you very much for being here!
Yeah, his (fretting) hands look like crab legs - long fingers clutching complicated chord voicings....
I hope Chris Squire knows you can fill in for him someday. If he see's this performance, he should take note. I am serious, Miguel.
Thank you very much Robert! Hope all's well with you!
It will be a very sad day when Yes will have to call you but at least we/(the fans) will be in capable hands.
THIS IS AWESOME - Thanks for sharing. This album came out when I was 17. One of my favorites.
Thank you very much!
Bravo Miguel ! You are UA-cam's best Bass player!!!!!!!
Bob
Thank you very much dear Bob!

This has to be the funniest story ever in my comments - and of course it's all true XD
I've noticed that even the outfit reminds a little bit Squire from Drama period, especially from "Tempus fugit" and "Into the lens" videos.
ArtB414 I think it was intentional ;) I should get those cool shades too!
Miguel, you are an incredibly talented musician. Please keep these videos coming! :)
+sydbarrett74 thank you very much! I will!
Incredible playing Buddy!!! Chris was a beast of a player and one hell of a funny guy!! Peace brother
Thank you very much Lee. Hope you enjoy the videos 🎶

Loved it, Miguel!
I don't know who enjoyed that more, you or I...
Another welcome barrage of Rick ;)

Great job,but what about the pedals used?
Those are a Fatar MP-1 midi pedal board, triggering a Taurus VSTi plugin. Thanks!
Are your fingers insured because they are PRICELESS!
Thanks Lenny! They aren’t 😮
Hi Miguel
Judging by the big smile on your face I'd say you enjoyed that... As did I and I Have to agree.. definitely best bass player on view here!!! You never disappoint. Superb as ever!!!
Ps: singing could do with a little more work though? Lol
I will have to practice a lot, but Chris' vocal range is too much for me right now :)) Thanks!
Nice work Miggy :-)
Thank you very much :)
Squire and Howes last great playing was on this song. Both never played like this again for some reason.
Yes this was the heaviest period featuring Steve and Chris!

Doesn't this Ric have an extended neck like Chris' did?
Hi Scott! I think Chris' bass with extended neck were made for him by Mike Tobias. Chris' Rickenbacker is a standard scale-length one.
Miguel, great job as always! Did Chris use his green CS bass for this recording?
I believe it's the Rick - Chris started using the Mouradian bass by the time of 90125 tour - I don't know what was the first song he recorded with it.Thanks!

Hello Agustin, I haven't heard of any sheet music for this. Thanks for watching!
Crank that Ric!
:) Thanks! Got to be cranked!
Again. Fucking Wow!
Thank you!
No offense to Billy Sherwood... but you should be touring with the current iteration of YES. Excellent work. Off the hook. Chris would be proud.
Thank you very much for your kind words. Greetings from Portugal!
👍👍👍👍👍👌👌👏👏
Thanks for watching!
Drama
One hell of an album👌
I look forward to meeting you in heaven
Miguel > Billy Sherwood.
This dooms.
