The last credible line up of Yes before they slipped into the realms of a tribute act. Benoit was a great fit for this band, shame it never lasted. Superb performance.
There's an interview with Benoit in Rolling Stone (?) from a couple of years ago -- he admits that it wasn't working out. But this is a great performance, no argument there.
Not Cool for Trevor Horn and Geoffrey Downes but the live from 1980/1981 weren’t filmed with good sound quality but of course with the digital sound everything sounds cleaner
@@MrJeremy9835 Yes has described themselves as an ongoing orchestra with ever changing band members. Yes have refined their performances of some pieces through the decades regardless of who is in the band. A good example is there are some sublime performances of Awaken without Wakeman and Gates of Delirium without Moraz. If Yes stuck to some rule of not playing a piece of music without the members who played it originally, they would have ceased to exist 50 years ago.
Brilliant! Fascinating! Benoit David had a great presence on stage and definitely a wonderful and high level voice. He deserved much better than such a short popup in Yes .
According to Chris, he left because he didn’t like the lifestyle and touring. It kept him away from his family too much. But he is a far superior vocalist to Jon Davison.
I was lucky enough to see Yes "In the Present" in Milwaukee in 2009 and it was awesome!! Benoit David was perfect! He is the second best Yes vocalist after THE voice of Yes, Jon Anderson. And Oliver Wakeman was great, too. I had also seen Yes "In the Round" in San Diego in 1980 when Trevor Horn sang lead and Geoff Downes was the keyboardist. My friends and I were only 3 rows back!
I remember a quote from Rick Wakeman, when he was playing in a current YES lineup. He said "I like to think that YES is an entity larger than any one of its lineups. It may sound "grossy," but I like to think that there will still be a YES, long after we are all dead and buried."

Magnificent version of Machine Messier………which is to be expected from Chris Steve and Alan, but, my goodness Benoit and Oliver were right up to Yes standard too. Thanks for posting.👍
I was fortunate to see 4 concerts this tour! Was really great meeting the band(again😊), Knowing I was seeing Yes without Jon or Rick…I went in with different expectations. Benoit was able to be himself performing songs from Drama -and Not having to “measure up” to Jon Anderson. I think Benoit did a great job and meeting him and and Oliver -was memorable! Both Gents were very humble and appreciative of the fans wonderful support this tour!❤ Great energy between the band this tour!🥰
Benoit was the best Jon replacement singer the band ever had. I regret not giving him the time of day when he was a member and am disappointed that he retired from music. His band was awesome.
Totally agree. Since the day it came out I've said to myself - this shouldn't maybe be regarded as a Yes album. But then I say - it sounds like a Yes album - and that means high praise.......Hats off to Mr Horn for a quite ridiculously stellar career. Not just a brilliant producer in various guises - but also lead singer for a while of the greatest band ever.
probably the best live version i have seen and heard over the many changes in YES over the years since my discovery of the band in london in 1974...yes music has been a staple of my life since then,
R.i.p Alan White, came here today because I wanted to watch this performance once again in memory of Alan, this is probably my favorite Yes song. A magical journey.
Always loved Steve's guitars, like the steel on SOON, and Chris has DEEPest BASS, modified and still outstanding like YES always is. I was so lucky to catch Roundabout your but today love videos just as much.
bought this album when I was 17 :) loved it. my older brother said "this is not YES" :). aged amazingly well. as i am hearing it now, I noticed how this track in particular and the album resemble to PINK FLOYD welcome to the machine. anyway what a preformenc and sound is amazing.

Backup vocals have always been such a strength for Yes. Squire was simply amazing. Howe does a fine job, and when they didn’t have him, they had Trevor Rabin. (And Peter Banks going way back.) Underrated skill. Yes would be much less impressive live without people who could do such a superb job singing and playing at a high level.
Great performance of that classic. The Benoit/Squire duet in the acoustic part is cool, with Benoit on the lower notes. Oliver's Moog with a bit of extra "portamento" is also a nice vibe near the end.
Benoit and Oliver nailed their respective parts here. I was lucky enough to see them shine onstage in London. It’s a real shame that both were unceremoniously ousted from the band. Thankfully the release of “From A Page” (well done to Oliver for sorting that out) gave a brief taste of what COULD have been had both men were able to stay in the band. Genuinely a real loss. This performance proves it.
All this concert was missing was a couple 20 minute epics that Yes is known for doing. Awaken and Close to the Edge plus all of the songs they DID do would've been a S tier setlist. I got to see this exact Yes lineup twice and they were still amazing!
Brilliant that so many people are enjoying this incarnation of Yes. Benoit and Wakeman were both very good for the band
This is is absolutely brilliant ! Much respect to all especially Benoit and Oliver. This is a masterpiece, thank you for posting this !!
14 years later (2023), and only Steve Howe remains from this lineup. Two of the members onstage are no longer with us. Tempus fugit.
Unbelievable that they could still play this after almost 30 years to such perfection... Plus, Squire's vocal sounded exactly the same! WOW!
The last credible line up of Yes before they slipped into the realms of a tribute act. Benoit was a great fit for this band, shame it never lasted. Superb performance.

Bin ich voll deiner Meinung
Undoubtedly a talented singer shame how it ended
Thank God for tribute acts!
This is unequivocally the best live version of Machine Messiah.
Yes, Fantastic sound on all instruments, recorded so well !! : )
Not Cool for Trevor Horn and Geoffrey Downes but the live from 1980/1981 weren’t filmed with good sound quality but of course with the digital sound everything sounds cleaner
Oliver Wakeman doesn’t sound like Geoff Downes to me though. Sorry
Benoit David’s voice is brilliant

Agree it's a great shame Benoit had to leave due to health issues, loved his voice & the way he harmonized with Chris * Steve

Masterpiece !!!!!!! R.I.P. Alan and Cris...
What a great f ' in tune!!! performed flawlessly..that Drama album was one of their best ever
this is great. 2009 seems a world away!
God i miss Chris squire.. he even did the high parts here like Yes Roundabout...RIP
Drama is just as great as any other Yes Album... Just the contribution itself ...
RIP Chris Squire and Alan White!

Me too. I can’t stop watching it. Brilliant. This particular playing is definitely in my top 20 Yes songs. Fantastic!
My favorite Yes song...ive never seen it live....😢
I've always thought that Drama was an extremely underrated and underappreciated album. Forget what came before it, just listen... and it's fantastic.
I am soooooooo glad I watched this video. My favourite Yes song and this is a brilliant version. Massive thumbs up from me.
You'd think Tony Iommi started playing with Yes. The opening has total Black Sabbath vibes

What a beautiful piece of music ❤
Tuve el privilegio de escucharlos y verlos en Rosario, Argentina con esta formación. Inolvidable.
I heard this álbum in 80’s and now I am enjoying like that time. Incredible piece of wonderful Music.
Drama was vastly under rated.
One of their best songs from (IMHO) their best record!
Kind of mind-blowing that from this lineup, only Steve is still there.
Not sure Steve ever had a better guitar tone than this performance, just brilliant
Amazing how Chris Squire always sounded like himself regardless of the bass he played/ and Steve Howe remains the most versatile Prog guitarist !!!###
Ladies and gentlemen Chris Squire and Yes, with Canadian Benoit David on vocals the best at singing Anderson's parts, the greatest show on earth.
As a bass player with many yrs experience. One of the hardest Yes Bass that nobody knows!
This is my favorite YES band and favorite YES song. To Chris in heaven.
This is my first time seeing this version of Yes live. David Benoit and Oliver Wakeman both do excellent work!
I attended many shows from the Drama tour and this version blows all of them away. David and Oliver are far stronger than Trevor and Geoff.
lol. Ok

Fantastic live performane. Wakeman and Benoit are doing a great job keeping up with the 3 old geezers, who are just plain amazing.
