I spent the last 4 months hung up on John Paul Jones and Led Zeppelin... Then I watched this video and you helped remind me who the real Maestro of English bass players is
I wouldn't compare. Both great bass players and I love them both. Bravo Miguel. It's so great to watch you just for the pleasure of seing it play so perfectly.
I discovered Yes by accident in 1980 (when garbage ruled the airwaves) and have loved it ever since. Your channel has given me a whole new appreciation for Yes music. Thank you!
One of my beloved Yes tunes. When I was Seventeen (now I am 57), I spent hours and hours hearing and enjoying this wonderful Song, Then. You seem enjoy a lot too playing masterfully this catchy tune. Many thanks.
haha!! At this morning, I thought "wow... is Chris Squire's birthday today... it's been a long time Miguel doesn't give us one of his great performance" and... here it is!! Thank you, very much! We know how difficult it is to make it right.
God bless...so very well done so so very well. Long live Chris Squire . I (we) thank you for this offering. You are well appreciated by all melodic bassists. Count on it. jv
Amazing job on one of my favorite "oldies"!!! Even at this early stage, Chris was so far ahead of his peers and so inventive. Well done, Miguel! Have you done a cover of "America" from the Yesterdays album? One of my all-time favorites and an excellent interplay with Chris and Steve all the way through, but especially at the ending. I would love to see you do it!
@@miguelbass Thank you, sir! I love your channel and am so in agreement about your feelings for Yes and Chris Squire. You do him and the group justice, and I wish you the best. I look forward to your cover of America. I think it is one of the finest early (and maybe all-time) examples of Chris and Steve taking things to a new and higher level, but of course the rest of the band made it all so perfect, as well!
Thank you for recovering this track in which I think Chris stands out from the other members of the band. And your interpretation, as always, masterful.
Great, as usual you did it again Miguel... I love the two first Yes albums and their raw power. "Then" is a fine track with a lot of contrast in it....
Dude. Last year I went through a big LSD phase and discovered all of YES's music on the drug and it changed my musical perspective on them and I ended up learning all of The Ancient on guitar by ear and alot from Fragile and I'm currently working on Close To the Edge (it's VERY DIFFICULT!!) In January the beginning of this year I had my last trip and jammed Fish Out of Water at the peak and it blew my mind, and is currently my all time favorite album. Lucky Seven and Safe (Canon) hold a very special place in my heart. Just wanted to say that I just discovered your channel and the way you keep Chris Squire's music alive is a very special thing! Keep on doing what you do man! And thank you for all the amazing videos!!
Hi Brandon, thank you very much for sharing your story! By the way I do have Lucky Seven covered, in case you haven't watched. Fish Out Of Water is of course in my all time favourites.
@@miguelbass dude I just saw it last night, blew my mind! Great job on the cover, it's spot on! Do you think you'll ever cover Safe (Canon)??? I don't think there's a single cover of it on UA-cam! (That and Silently Falling!!)
@@HereLiesBrandon - There's a reason for that - those are not only longer pieces but also employ multiple basses, sometimes simultaneously, so it's quite a task... just to be able to listen and extract the bass lines, but I will try for sure :) Thanks!
I'm not advocating the practice, but it's a bit of trivia that a 19-year-old Chris Squire wandered into Chelsea And Westminster Hospital on a overdose of homemade LSD in '68. Later, YES was formed. The story can be found online.
Yeah for sure, fellow astral traveler. Back in my tripindicular phase in college, some two decades ago now, I used to begin most of my journeys watching some bootlegged VHS copy of the special Yes did for Belgium TV. Particularly Then (always good to start a trip with 'love is the only answer/hate is the root of cancer then') and even more so Everydays, where you can tell the boys were up to some lysergic shenanigans of their own...I mean they are being chased by a nun, who ends up piloting their boat down the canal. Haha...you gotta love Yes! And as for Fish Out of Water...that album is a masterpiece and Lucky Seven is one of my favorite songs of all time. If you haven't watched Squire doing a running commentary for the album, you must! ua-cam.com/video/1z_6euDbt8w/v-deo.html
Absolutely brilliant!!! One of my favorite bass parts by one of my favorite bassists...you have done it justice. Watching you play this and so forward in the mix brought out some syncopated bits I hadn't heard before. Thank you! Float your climb, Miguel!
Incredible as always!!! It really highlights just what a genius Squire was to be able to even come up with a bass part such as the one in this song...I mean what the how?!!! :D
It's so hard to recreate a recorded bass tone. After it is recorded and processed, even through rudimentary equipment, it usually no longer resembles the actual bass tone. Good Job.
Too Bad Steve Jon and Rick don't invite you into their company for an afternoon of jamming , I can't help but believe they'd all look at each other and say to You " Come back tomorrow ? "
Don’t forget to give us Sweet Dreams some time? I guess that would have been originally played on Rickenbacker and not Telecaster I am sure you will know?

They're both gods of bass.

This Is the most McCartney-influenced baseline we’ve got from Squire ever, yet you can clearly tell it’s 100% him and no one by his tone.
I this this album especially has a lot of influences of the Beatles on Chris' playing and overall. The Prophet also comes to mind!
I discovered Yes by accident in 1980 (when garbage ruled the airwaves) and have loved it ever since. Your channel has given me a whole new appreciation for Yes music. Thank you!
Garbage still rules airwaves but together we're stronger! Thank you so much for your words of support!

Chris' choice of notes and timing never ceases to amaze me, even though I - as a long time Yes fan - have listened to this song hundreds of times.
Amazing. Very underrated bass line.

Your touch is ripening like wine.
Man, i'd love a cover of the first track of "Time and a Word". The bass is literally the best thing in that song!
I will consider that for sure. Thank you!
Absolutely impeccable work, as always
Thank you very much dear Paul. Hope all is well with you!

Onde comprou esse baixo? Quanto custou?
Cara, achei uns de R$1800 em um site chamado dhimport
Mas geralmente eles custam em torno de R$8000 pra cima, realmente uma puta facada
@@larikoproduzimentos4501 esse site é gringo? Tem mais instrumentos?

Hi Ricky - I would bet it was the Telecaster. It sounds a lot like it, and Chris always opted for a Fender playing it live.
