Simple Delay is becoming one of my favorite Ableton stock plugins... Just recently discovered how to use it for stereo widening and now i have another idea from this!!! I was originally going to ask if there was a way to automate global groove in Ableton for live performance. But this video made me realise that there are only certain components that need to be offset to make groove, not everything .. I can simply slap an simple Delay on a hi hat for example and midi control that...
A completely random and off-topic question: what are those desks/tables that are being used. I see a "GG" logo on them, but can't find them on the web. Can you provide a link? They look perfect. Thanks muchly.
Urgghhh. They are really amazing looking. Thought they looked too good to be true! Ah well - my search continues. Thanks for the reply and the excellent tut video.
why does it sound so slow at 160 bpm ??? where would the snares be at ( 2nd or 3rd) in the whole " one two three four two two three four three two three four" time signature ???????????????? thnx to whoever can help
Hi NOLAbrookz. The snares hit only once on the 3 in each bar, which gives it a slower feel. You could achieve the a similar result by setting the tempo to 80bpm, and then putting a snare on the 2 and 4.
I've recently been told that track delay does not get applied to track exports. Is this true or not? If it is, then what is the workaround to get your exports grooving like they should?
Track delays are applied if you export the master, but will be ignored if you export the track directly (ie not via the master). Likewise, if you use track routing to recording from a track-delayed track it will honour the delay when the routing is post-mixer but will ignore it when routed post-effects or pre effects
Ableton Liveschool thanks so much for getting back to me about this. So I'm correct to assume that I can bounce tracks via the "resampling" bus incl track delay, but if I export a single track as opposed to the entire mix, the track delay will be ignored.
You are delaying the whole signal post I believe. So the sidechain does it's effect then the delay is shifting the track over. So, the ducking will be offset and not happening when you want it too.
I have to disagree here.Moving whole sections to give swing is not a good solution. If you stack up all sounds with swing it will be all over the place(not unison as whole track). Better techniques is just randomly move few notes back and forth within measures depending on instrument and its role. Swing is not only moving notes around but also length, cut off, resonace, decay of each note.
wow - that was such a clear explanation! I've never known how the groove feature in ableton works!
This is such a great tutorial
Thank you for this. Swindy is such an inspiration. Really well explained.
Bro really dropping the sauce
Nice work Sid!
do you guys have recorded videos from when flume used to teach there?
I've watched this video since was upload it, 2 years later decided to go over it and am glad i did 🙌
Damn i never thought about using the delay for groove. Good tip
This moment when you realize all these samples come from the BOI1DA PACK OMG. Swindaill = G.O.A.T
This was an awesome tutorial! shot
He looks like Diplo, and even his voice sound similar to him! Awesome)
So negative delay triggers the sound early?
Yep! Negative values on track delay will move the playback of that track earlier.
Amazing your remix of Young Franco's 'Drop your love (feat. Dirty Radio)'
his new track c'est la vie (feat. innanet james) is fire
What is that stand the Push is on?

halftime
Ableton Liveschool That’s because it’s actually an 80BPM track. Although, setting it at 160 gives the user more options.
He sounds like Mr. Bill
THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUUUUUUUCHHHHH
So on windows its not control + arrows, its alt + arrows.

Single track is only ignored if you choose just that track in the export dialogue
Sick track mate
Sidechaining for the entire track is messed up when you use negative delay on one channel? I thought delay compensation fixed all that, no?
i think he meant if you want to sidechain that particular track to the kick or smth else otherwise i don't understand either : )
