Thanks for this! Good to see a review which shows low end speed applications, as used for knock down fittings, for example. I like the idea of an impact drill that can pilot holes in wood at high speed, and deal with finer slower speed applications. Time to upgrade!

VCG doesn't know what they are talking about, this impact is great, it won't smoke under normal use with a flexvolt battery. Maybe with a extremely hard test, But realistically any power tool will smoke and possibly due under extreme heavy loads.

After about 16-17 holes I started to notice the bit the drill and the trigger area getting very hot. Thinking the tool can handle it, I proceeded until it let out a smoke and passed away on me. Sorry for the post being so long after you posted it but to answer the question is how the batteries are made, the larger batteries tend to have more cells meaning the voltage can be the same but the amperage can be much higher so the total power of the tool is increased.
Also as a side note the more fully charged the batteries, the higher the voltage tends to be and it slowly decreases as their percentage decreases and they go through more cycles so this is why you might get more power a bit longer with larger batteries and newly charged ones.

    • @peteturner8493
