Upgraded from an older 18v kit. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxW1vOBRCMrgTCDEijzpVzDWsgI-Jm2iQv I independently chose the drill and impact tool, before I came across the kit.I like the 3 speed impact gun. It seems more powerful than my older one, and it can be set to be really gentle. The drill is more appropriately sized for my use. I used to have a hammer drill, but I did not like that it was so big and it was not a great hammer drill. I rather have a smaller drill like this, and then get a corded hammer drill for the odd case I need that.
I have a couple of the old 18 volts and I have a 20 volt from when they first came out. The ergonomics of the 20 volts are much better in the hand than the old 18’s. My father in law has one of these that you’re using and I borrowed it to do something at his house and the very first thing I noticed was how smooth it felt with very little vibration. It just felt like precision. It doesn’t seem to chug your hand so I had to finally treat myself to one, even tho I have three others that work fine. But I’m really looking forward to getting it. The impact is the one tool I know I’ll use on a daily basis. They do so much.
I currently own the 12v XR and it is my go-to for framing, deck building and general deck screw placing. Built a 20x20 storage, 24x24 addition, 12x12 pergola, 10x10 tool shed, 3x7 indoor sauna, and currently on a 28x20 roofed deck with wheelchair ramp. However, the 12v 5aH battery is the ONLY 12v in my tool box, tool chest and tool truck because I bought the 12v instead of the 20v by accident. I am now looking into the 20v but plan on keeping this 12v "cutie" as it does have its place for short amounts of time in the rafters, inside crawl spaces, between awkward 16" center-to-center joists.
I have a Bosch freak . Returned that junk at lowes today . And got myself this exact same impact . This thing is fast as hell. Way better then Bosch shitty impact .
I would much rather have a mechanical switch on a tool. I think I’d rather have a mechanical switch on everything over a digital switch. Digital anything equals- shorter lifespan. I just ordered one of these and it’s coming this Friday! I’m so excited lol It’ll end up looking like a piece of shite by the end of the year tho. I make my living with my tools so they get beat up pretty bad. Thanks for the thorough review.
I bought the same model but no XR or speeds. But seems identical in specs. I'm always wondering what makes the gun xr. I know there are XR batteries, but what would make XR on the tool itself? My first brushless was a Ridgid. I loved it but someone in my neighborhood loved it more. I left it out while working on a microwave, and someone came in my yard and thought it looked better in their toolbag. Anyway,it had the electronic push button speed control. I was so pissed I bought the DeWalt so it doesn't remind me of the incident.
Nice video. I recently picked up the new DCF840. It feels like it has a ton of power. The variable trigger has a lot of control, but I'm disappointed it doesn't have speed controls, they really are a nice feature and should come standard. I'm thinking about maybe switching over to an 887 or 888. How is the variable trigger on the 887? Do you feel like there is a lot of range/control? I've seen some people say it's not very good.
@Sean O. The Variable Trigger on DeWalt Dcf888/887 are Great! The tool can impact a fastener to a slow speed impact if you press the trigger hard it will go faster it's max speed and max impact rates. 888 and 887 are the same the only difference is the Speed Selector Switch the dcf887 have mechanical switch while the dcf888 have push button electronic switch and also have Bluetooth connectivity to any phones that have DeWalt tool apps. But they're the same motor, same power, same torque and same speed and impact ratings.
Dude! I watched your Craftsman Brushless Impact driver video before, and tell you what I love the new Craftsman Brushless Impact Driver a lot than the DeWalt! I have 2 DeWalt impact driver, I got dcf888 which is the same motor and specs as it's brother with the only the difference is that the dcf888 have Bluetooth connectivity, which can also be used as a locator and you locked up your tool so it cannot be stolen, it also have a push button speed selector instead of a mechanical selector switch like the one that you have there. My 2nd one is the DeWalt dcf887 that's the one that you're holding on there. And they're good! But I always uses the dcf888 in my jobsite so it cannot be stolen. I like the Craftsman Brushless Impact Driver it's a DeWalt in RED!!! Because Craftsman and DeWalt are both owns by The Stanley Black and Decker Company. DeWalt look cute! Don't know why!!! 😁 But they're cute especially when you look at their Atomic impact driver. Man you're gonna love it too because of its compactness and stubby looks.
That’s cool! Yeah they are both solid impacts for sure. No issues with the craftsman at all! The thing I like about the dewalt is the size mostly. And they have so many other tool in the 20v lineup. And more tools coming all the time.
@@WadeofAllTrades yeah Im loving the Craftsman Brushless Impact Driver I'm seeing those even more in my jobsite. I've been considering and looking at the Craftsman Brushless 3 Speed Impact Driver to replace my old Ryobi Brushed 3 Speed Impact Driver because I smoked that driver many times and it finally gave up on me last week and it's warranty already passed so the tool itself is already a liability. Good video review Wade, keep it coming man!
@@RobbertN Gocha. Thank you. Do you think the speed selector button is a nice feature? I am deciding between the DCF887 (speed selector button) and the atomic (no speed selector button) which is DCF809. I am a DIY guy. Thank you.
@@SamY-el6vm The 887 is more versatile with the speed selector, it's ideal for small screws and 'delicate' work on speed 1. And there is only a small price difference between the two. I'm a electrician.
That's what I have on my DeWalt DCF888 it's got Bluetooth in there and my cordless hammer drill too they got Bluetooth! So I can detect and track them around the jobsite I can see when my tool getting stolen. I hope I can detonate my dcf888 remotely so that whoever dummy tries to steal my tool will lost his hand.
The chuck on mine is a piece of shit. The bit just doesn't want to let go even when you pull on it. The driver itself is great, but if you have to change bits out at all it's a pain in the ass. I wish I had returned it for a replacement.
Kirk Reinert, oh yeah! I agree with you! 👍 DeWalt DCF895 is the best DeWalt brushless impact driver ever made and so sad that Stanley Black and Decker and DeWalt Co. Discontinued that model. I have 2 of them one is super beat up and abused and the other one is slightly used but still in great shape. I never bring and use them in my jobsite anymore after the DeWalt discontinued the dcf895 I don't bring them in my jobsite because they might get stolen and You cannot find dcf895 nowadays that beauty is hard to find. The only DeWalt Impact Driver that Im bringing and been using in my jobsite are the dcf885, dcf888 and 887 all of them are made in USA with global material bullshit. It would be so nice if they are made in the USA 100% but that's the shit as it gets. Then I got a Craftsman Brushless 3 speed impact driver kit also made in USA w/ global material bullshit as well I got it with a kit but just only for backup. And for the extreme weather like rain, snow and dust I got my Hitachi Triple Hammer brushless impact driver IP-56. And the only Cordless hammer drill that I have is Bosch HD-18 Brute and the DeWalt DCD996. Sorry if you seen other brands there I love DeWalt but I'm not loyal to any tool Brands. All of my Powertools are DeWalt, Craftsman, Bosch, Makita, Ryobi, Hitachi/Metabo, and I also do have some Harbor Freight Tools Hercules brand as well.
Well there is, if you did a day of screwing plasterboards up with a borrowed 887 on setting 1, and the next day you borrowed an 840 that just has a variable trigger, You'd go out on your first break to buy an 887
Bought my DCF887 back in 2017. It went through 2 houses renovation and was heavily used. But it's still holding strong.
Does it actually get stuck under load
Thanks for the good video. Straight to the point, no crazy torture test, no gibberish, just a good, honest review.

I replace the springs in mine about once a year , the issue I have is it retaining the bit .. climb up a latter and realize the bit is MIA

There's just about zero need for a tool to have a speed selector switch if it has a variable trigger. It's just more crap to break.
