Vocal Warm-Up | #1 Breathing | National Theatre
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 тра 2011
- This is the first of four films demonstrating how to warm up your voice, focusing on breathing exercises. Breathing exercises are an essential start to any vocal warm-up; they organise the breathing muscles, extend the capacity of the voice and give a sense of the breath very deep inside the body. Jeannette Nelson is the Head of Voice at the National Theatre.

Thank you for your comment.
It is recommended that you take your time when undertaking these exercises but otherwise you should continue as shown in the videos.
Thank you so much for this video. I've spent my entire life without breathing. I was beginning to turn blue!

One question - are there any exercises here that would need to be approached with a little more care with less (physically) experienced actors?

Are they breathing through the nose or mouth while their in that squat? Is there a rule on how to intake the breath, in nose and out mouth?
Tnx and love from india😍❤️❤️🙏
very helpful for the girls.
This is really helpful, I will certainly be directing students to watch and join in with this video
no no no do not do that
@@jayysxe1870 lmao
Does this help your regular voice? And, will it fix talking through your nose?
+Sabataj All of these exercises are good for your voice generally, and allows you to use your voice to its full potential. I wouldn't think of 'fixing' a nasal voice so much as 'balancing' it. Look at exercise video #3 for that. Bringing your voice 'forward' prevents relying too much on a nasal quality, should be what you're looking for :)
@@Halibut118 while your singing do you hold your breath or talk while expanding your chest
Hi there, I'm not completely sure what you're asking. While you are controlling your breath when singing, you are still 'breathing out' technically or else no sound will come out. In the same way you naturally will expend as much breath as you need when speaking a sentence in conversation, you develop the same instinct for singing phrases, breathing in-between.
When speaking, you will be expending breath, too, so your chest will naturally contract unless you physically resist it and only speak 'from the abdominals'.
Does this answer your questions?
i do all the exersizes every day
Doing Pilates and Yoga are good for singing
Here for drama assignment during COVID!

looks like a workshop for pregnant people
You shouldn't joke. I actually became pregnant after watching this. I wasn't even doing the exercises. But he was a healthy child and I managed to get good money for him. So in the end all okay thanks you.
PEOPLE!! This is NOT Jeanette Wilson!!! The instructor on screen is KRISTIN LINKLATER, NOT JEANETTE WILSON.
Give thanks where it is due.
Thnx
Oh for heaven sake, Kyle, this most certainly IS NOT Kristin Linklater. First of all, it is so arrogant to presume NT doesn't know who their head of voice is or what she looks like. And secondly, a quick search for Kristin Linklater will ping back a few videos that make it abundantly clear that not only do these two have completely different voices and appearance, but that you failed to do any research before making your very wrong assertion.
Definitely not Kristin Linklater. I have been in class with her. She does use many of the same techniques, though. The screen says this is Jeannette Nelson, head of voice and speech at the National Theatre in London. I would probably trust that. They do wonderful work there!
Whose here cuz of Howland 😂
