I am 9 and I always wanted to be an actor. It is my dream becoming one and I am not giving up. It looks amazing being in a film. I would love to be in one! I like this video and from now on I will try and do this every day. I am sure these warm ups will help me. Thank you for making this video! 🙂
If you want to and you work hard at it you absolutely will be. Just put it out there in the universe and be relentless about how hard you work to prepare for it and you will be in movies!! (I am in my first movie starting next week... It really can happen!)
I have been a singer and voice coach for over 53 years now but was happy to have found this video as acting and singing are two different skills. I have just learned new ways how to vocalize for theater actors. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise with us. Truly appreciated.
This is excellent - wonderful to see student actors conducting the exercises. So useful for drama students to see other young people (not just adults). Great demonstrations. Thank you.
Thank you for this video... It helped me a lot regarding the vocal knowledge that every actor should have. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and skills with all of us (artists). Greetings from Serbia...💓🎭
This was a very fun and enjoyable Warm-up Session! I will add this to my routine of practicing voice acting. I myself have never gotten into a drama class that let me be on stage or a theater club but Id Luv to if my future college has one! I would LOVE to see more videos like this if possible.
Im really nervous cause in only a few weeks ill be doing a play in a huge theatre in front of sooo many people!! Iv learnt most of my lines but my teacher says that i have to portray my character more (if that makes sense) and speak louder and slower...iv been trying hard but i cant seem to get it right...does anyone have any tips or something? btw thx ill be practicing these warm ups for a while! :)
Did you see this video from the National Theatre? I can't understand why it doesn't have more views -- it's so fun and interesting to see how the voice coach works with actors to get them to connect with the audience far away: ua-cam.com/video/VGegb7uPRRs/v-deo.html -- Also, Doris Day said that James Cagney gave her the best advice about how to act -- "Look the other guy in the eye, and give it to him straight." Good luck!

Great! So useful! How would you explain how to do each exercise to children? And what about the purpose/ what the exercise achieves and how it works? E.g. what is tapping the chest for?
This is an exercise for theatre actors. If you can’t resonate your voice within a space, then you can’t fill it. Being able to harness and calibrate resonance is a key tool for any vocal performer.
@@DimitriosDenton no not just that - your body is full of resonators - it's learning to free those up and let the sound roll around in them because it has different effects when it comes from different places and being able to project it so you're able to use your body as a resonator to produce a rich large sound without damaging yourself by straining your vocal chords and shouting your lines. a lot of people instinctively compress their vocal chords and create tension in their bodies which actually makes it harder to get sound out - the power needs to come from your diaphragm and you need to be open enough for it to pass through your vocal chords without forcing it using the muscles surrounding it which can actually injure you. Hopefully some of that makes sense. I'd suggest trying out some exercises esp lying down with your eyes closed and directing a 'maaaaaaaa' or an 'eeeeeee' to different areas of your body - play around with it and see how the sound changes. Actors and singers both need to be able to relax their bodies and learn how to resonate. Good luck and have fun :)
It is frustrating that the boy cannot properly pronounce his 'th' sounds - constantly saying 'free' instead of 'three'. Surely this is articulation which this exercise is meant to embrace?!
@@amyoungil yeah it's still wrong - incorrect pronunciation. it's fine for casual day to day speech at home but if you're in a role for shakespeare or playing a middle class/posh/historical person that's a no-no. He'd need to drop that and learn RP. :)

The "javelin" exercise made such an audible difference in the girl's vocal projection! One for the notebooks for sure.

The dude looks like James Baldwin. If ever there's a biopic made...I want him in it.
I really like the guys voice.
What a fabulous, joyful workshop. How can I connect with Jeannette Nelson? I'm a drama teacher and teacher trainer, and this work is so useful.
Thanks for posting this warmup!

Tapping the chest is for resonance.

don't do the touch your face part though.
What is wrong with it?

Hey everyone, the best results that I have had was with the Bens Singer Blog (i found it on google) definately the most incredible plan i've tried.
This was a brilliant voice warm up activity. Fun and relaxing too.. I am so grateful to have access to your work at National Theatre.
Me too 😊😊
