Thank you! That caboose I believe is owned by the Buffalo, Cattaraugus & Jamestown Scenic Railway, which uses Buffalo Southern's power and right of way to run annual excursion trains.
@@mattygunn693 They had been painting the caboose for the last month on the spur behind the hobby shop. Looks really nice. Looks like they are also working on the old Chessie caboose on that same spur
Is 8 cars all they brought this year? I can remember seeing them move from the Erie County Fair to the New York State Fair when I worked alongside the tracks in the 1990's. The train was long with not only the equipment cars but also coaches and at least one private car. I had a chance to talk to some of the show people when the train was stopped by the Powerhouse I was working in at the time.
They don't call CSX Chicken S#!t Xpress for nothing. When the James E. Strates Show lost the New York State Fair contract it was the beginning of the end for their train. I can remember them working over 20 fairs from early May into November years ago. History is passing before our eyes.
CSX would not allow loaded flats to be moved up from Florida. They only shipped up the remaining empties for this run and they reloaded them with trucks in Blaisdell and made the 'commerative last run' to Hamburg. No it wasn't full loaded, but don't blame Strates. Strates had already sold off a good number of the flats.
Buffalo Southern did a fantastic job here! Really love the shots of 4212 and the caboose. But Strates... my god, 8 not even fully loaded flatcars with 5 rides? That's it? What a lousy way to end such a great railroading legacy! If this doesn't speak volumes to how far they have fallen since losing the NYS Fair 10 years ago, then I don't know what does. I'm sure people had fun celebrating it as they should, but knowing what their fair train used to be, this is a big disappointment on Strates' behalf. I give them a decade left at best.
From what I read, CSX refused to handle the Strates train as a special move, that's why there were so few cars and also why this is the last year for it. This isn't the first time CSX ran a customer out of Western New York either.
@@mattygunn693 I'm not too surprised that CSX made it this difficult for them. They have always given Strates a hard time with their train over the years.
Another awesome video for all time! Great catch Matty!

Looks so much better repainted too!
Nice ! Looks like it was a popular event.
Thanks! Yeah, the amount of people that came out to see this was insane!
It seems more cost effective than moving all that equipment over the highway
