Modern Day Operators of the Historic Buffalo Line
Переглядів 2,8 тис.2 години тому
In this compilation video, we'll be taking a look at some of the operations of the modern day railroads that still use the old, historic Buffalo Line roughly 170 years after it first opened! From coal drags to interchange traffic, and from the Class 1 that still owns the entire 300 mile line to the regional and shortline railroads that lease portions from West Seneca, NY to Driftwood, PA, we'll...
Ex-Conrail Workhorse Returns to the Nickel City
Переглядів 1,3 тис.9 годин тому
Back in March of 2021, an amazing EMD lash-up led extra Silver Springs turn H5N up East Attica Hill while having SD40-2 #3411 on point! This would be one of the last times I would see this old girl in action, as it would eventually suffer a blown traction motor before being taken to and staying in Ohio. Fast forward to now, and the ex-Conrail workhorse is back in Western New York! Lashed up to ...

Back in early December 2024, a beautiful SD70MAC sporting flared radiators and a fresh YN3c paint job slowly led massive manifest/key train (freight train with hazardous goods) M384 past the Depew, NY Amtrak station before meeting an intermodal racing in the opposite direction! Locals After Dark | First Catch of 2025

On the night of January 1st., I decided to head to the next town over to catch some quick local action. Starting with yard transfer L032 heading back to Buffalo, NY from Niagara Falls with two SD40-3s leading 111 cars, I would then chase Tonawanda Local L035 as they crept along the former Erie Railroad Lockport Runner with a former Seaboard Coast Line Geep pulling four boxcars for Niagara Sheet...

Chasing Coal on the Historic Buffalo Line

After putting it off for years, I finally decided to make a daytrip into Central Pennsylvania to check out the Norfolk Southern-operated portion of my favorite rail line: the historic former Pennsylvania Railroad Buffalo Line! Luck was on my side for the journey, as I was able to chase not one, but two coal trains on this old line along the West Branch Susquehanna River, through the Allegheny M...
A&A 80 Tonner and Crew Take on Ice

I hope all of you who celebrate Christmas had an amazing one! Continuing with the winter weather throwbacks, we are heading back to February 2023 on a day when an Arcade & Attica Railroad crew and their GE 80 ton centercab dealt with the aftermath of an ice storm while pulling covered hoppers to the Reisdorf Brothers feed mill at the end of the line! Despite the chaos and mess that ensues, wint...

Merry Christmas everyone! Continuing the holiday spirit with another snowy scape, a quartet of beautiful Spartan cab EMDs lead Rochester & Southern's RS-1 south from the city of Rochester, NY to the quaint town of Silver Springs to interchange with Norfolk Southern, running through some snow squalls and rumbling through some rural snowscapes as they traverse former B&O/BR&P trackage! How often does the OL-2 run?
Far as I know they won’t using the “L” symbols in 2022. Nice video!
Thanks a lot! Yep, they were using the L symbols back then, though I don't remember when the symbols changed.
damn a local that big. at that point it's not even considered a local that's just a freight train lol.
Great job Matty! It looks like they just lashed up whatever they had left in the yard and sent it packing. 😃
I thought the exact same thing when the power creeped on by me! Lol
Thanks Matty, this whole video seems like a different Planet to our Railways.
Gotta LOVE the whistle echos in the valleys !!
That was both unexpected and spectacular, especially in Emporium!
Those old ALCOS! C430 and a C425 - brilliant catch!
Thank you!
Anyone remember when NS ran 2 daily mixed trains?
If I'm correct, that's the railroad tracks that runs through East Aurora. Just reminiscing about my childhood home town.
Yes it is
New sub. Cool drone footage along with the ground footage makes for a great viewing. Thank you.
Nice video Matty :)
Excellent footage.
Espero que un día baje a México 🇲🇽
those don't sound like EMD prime movers
Thats so serious yard power Matty! Thanks for the video!🇺🇸
Out of all the heritage units, the Chesis is my favorite!!!❤
@@Ken_G9s She is a beaut!
Good stuff as usual! Not a big fan of the way CSX paints their heritage units. I think NS does a much better job.
Thank you! Yeah I do have to agree, the NS heritage units are better than the CSX ones. At the same time, I personally don't mind the CSX heritage units. They are better than the sticker units, and with how they're painted, it doesn't matter if they're trailing lol.
Nice Catches!
Thank you sir!
Cool catches!
Thanks!
Great Video & Catch!
Thanks a lot!
Very nice clip.
Great video! Those winds sounded brutal.
Thanks! Yeah the one spot with the open field was pretty bad, but that was about it!
You've made some really great use of all that snow you have been having Matty, with some very beautiful and interesting videos!!! Cheers
Ah yes the shadow the hedgehog engine and we have the blue one and the yellow sd70 and I think there was a red one as well that's funny all kidding aside great video haha
Awfully fitting though, chasing a gray engine on a gray day lol. Thanks bud!
@mattygunn693 your welcome man keep it up
Was just up there for the Thanksgiving holiday and caught a train or two on Spring Road, or better known as Dixons Crossing. Great video Matt!! Love seeing my old stomping grounds of the Southern Tier line.
Thanks a lot, and I hope you had a wonderful holiday!
What is that horn? I love it!
@@benjiwhitevideos4361 It's a Leslie Tyfon A-200.
Always amazes me that 2 engines can pull that tonnage up that hill on Spring Rd!!!
I think I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen or heard of a train struggling to climb this hill. Road power nowadays never ceases to amaze me with how much weight they can pull effortlessly!
After such a spirited run at the start, Attica Hill certainly seemed to slow things down a bit. Thanks for posting.
At least the crews up here don't have to worry about climbing the West Slope or Cajon Pass. 😎
Man I wish I could’ve been there to get 316. School was the only reason I couldn’t
There's always next time.
Great Catch!
@@buffaloarearailfan9928 Thanks!
Cool video!
Holy s*** Matty, a two mile long consist! I wouldn’t want to be the conductor on that one!🇺🇸
The reason why i like EMD more as GE is probably the variety of they appearance. I call it Railroad gimmicks like some examples: the CSX Spongebob Cabs or UP 4842 with it's sharp angled cab, who looks like a pre series to SD70M-2. NS Admiral Cabs and Ex- Santa Fe / BNSF GP60M are also mention. Then Triclops, Four Window Caps, Cowl Units, Tunnel motors, different trucks, flared radiators... Just a lot to see!
I bet the crew had a blast getting tossed around on the head end by all those autoracks 🤣
Triple meet! Great coverage. Thanks
The sd70mac is a good looking locomotive. Thanks for braving the weather!
Makes me wish CSX had more EMD road power in their fleet, like NS and UP.
Thanks Matty. Love the hearing the Radio and nice Sound-effects from the Train too. Luckily the Intermodal didn't pass-by too early-on. Long-live SD70MACs.
Is that an RP fusee burning beneath the first car behind the trailing unit, Matt??
That's a track geometry car, so it's a laser scanning the rails.
Thanks Matty. It didn't take those 5 Locos long to speed-up.
nice video, love those freight trains. Subscribed.
nice snow fall along with Train. thanks to watching from Bangladesh.
Another good one!
Great to see those old D9-44CW's still earning their keep. Unlike other railroad's that scrap them. NS Rebuilt over 800 of theirs. CSX maybe 500 of theirs. It's just cool to see them in their former RR's paint scheme. Great video.
I’m still trying to get used to the idea of Dash-9s in second-hand service.
Yah freel!
Thanks Matty. I liked the way rear Cars of the Train started picking-up speed, presumably with the Locos and foremost Cars passed over the Summit of the hill?
Great video :)
Beautiful Shots!
@@buffaloarearailfan9928 Thank you!
Hi Matty, man can those big ugly’s pull!! 🇺🇸
@@scottlindquist8417 They don't sound half bad either!
Man, you sure do get around. As time goes by, we now see big power GEs replacing SD 40s and 45s. Thanks for documenting the progression.
Nice winter train action! Looks like plenty of traffic flowing on the B&P.
@@garymartz7587 Thanks! Yeah, they've always been a busy railroad. Actually, traffic has somewhat dropped over recent years now that coal trains aren't running to Homer City or Buffalo anymore.
