So fascinating that once upon a time someone purchased this machine new! All that History! We won't be here in 100 years with the modern plastic machines!
The paint job is absolutely stunning, and the cabinet has been refinished to perfection. I have found that using a thread stand works much better on cross wound spools, such as the one you are using. It really does a good job preventing lash back. Thank you for the time and effort making this very informative video.
Thats the first 15 ive seen with the thumb release style upper tentioner , im used to seeing them on vibrating shuttles but not on the 15s , very interesting thanks for showing a great restored gem .....

Your machine is beautiful. I recently rescued singer improved family from 1888 and am just starting to restore her. I need to find a bobbin wonder spring--listed as part 81G in old Singer List of Part IF publication from 1891. Any idea where I might find one? Do you know if I can substitute a later spring from a model 15? Does anybody make a moderne reproduction one? Note, my bobbin winder looks just like yours and runs on the treadle belt.
This was hugely helpful. Just picked up an 1887 version of this little machine and your video has helped me know how to use my machine.
That’s fabulous, always glad to help.
Thank you ! I just purchased an 1884 Improved Family and I am looking forward to restoring it.

It must give you such joy to get these old beauties working like new. It certainly gives me joy to see them at work!
Yes it does, thank
You
Nice seeing a restored Kilbowie tailor table. I have a 1883 IM , and 1884 and 1885 IF machines. great machines.

I’ve been very surprised by how advanced this machine feels, lots of features from later machines, that were omitted from subsequent designs.

Try Helen Howes.
Can you replace the needle bar with a 15-91 or 201? Thanks for your help
I'm wondering if this machine is easier to keep up to speed when treadling? The balance wheel seems so heavy.
@@sunnasmilieu it treadles nicely, getting the rhythm rite is everything.
@@sailingtessbesssewfarnorth1746 That's nice to hear. My main machine is a treadle 15. It's very smooth.
