Sailing Tess Bess & Sew far north, sail sew explor
Приєднався 29 вер 2020
Creative Explorations of the far North on a traditional style sailing boat, from Shetland, to Svalbard, through Norway
Due to COVID our plans changed, we wanted to circle the Greenland sea, Norway, Svalbard, Greenland, Iceland, Faroes, then back to Shetland, but the COVID situation made that very difficult, so from Svalbard we returned to Norway and explored some of the outer islands like Halten, Grip, and Ona our way home to Shetland.

What needle size do you use on those very heavy materials?
@@bluetuber501 an 18 or a 20, but that’s pretty much the limit of this machine.
I have a F & R machine which once belonged to my mum. and I wonder if you can give me some advice regarding a problem I have while loading the bobbin. There is a switch on the hand wheel to turn the shuttle off while reloading thread, but this has stopped working and the shuttle holder continues to move backwards and forwards while carrying this out. Any help you can give will be much appreciated.
@@sueshivers5120 contact me on fb and I’ll see what I can do to help.
@@sailingtessbesssewfarnorth1746 Sorry, but I am not on any other social media sites, but thank you for replying.
Hi, when I sew with mine is makes this bell ring sound, is it normal?
@@masetshabanemakhavhani oh sorry I’d need to see the machine to know if it’s working correctly.
@@sailingtessbesssewfarnorth1746 It does work correctly, I'm just worried about the bell ringing sound when it's sewing
@@sailingtessbesssewfarnorth1746 Would that require a picture or video?
@@masetshabanemakhavhani sorry I’d need to physically see it to work out what’s causing the noise.
Great!
How do you clean the machine to ready it for the clear? Thanks very much.
@@green122s with mineral (white) spirits.
@@sailingtessbesssewfarnorth1746 Appreciated. Thanks.
Isn’t that a awesome machine even if it didn’t sew it’s so beautiful to look at
Sound is so low I can’t hear it at all I really was interested in your video. Well maybe I’ll catch it when you get it fixed
Watched it again and again. The voice the sound the images - a feast for the soul. Thank you ❤❤
Thank you for this demonstration.
Thank you for a very instructive video, Davie. I just got a 319. It was all seized up, but is running freely now. Very smooth and quiet. I just need to sort out the needle/bobbin case problem.
I just bought a 1940 201/1200 that I'm starting to restore, it needs help. I'm needing to find the stand for it also if I want to use the added knee lever that actuates the presser foot. A scrapper on marketplace sold it to me for $20.
Hello can you made a short video of lift open system I need to made one please.
@@hitoortega1616 message me on fb I’ll send you a picture.
I have a beige 201K I was just given… I’ve cleaned it up and she’s beautiful!
I've been struggling to find one of these mint condition here in Brazil.. but I own a 15c. Aren't those just as powerful? I understand that the rotary hook may be more precise somehow, but the strength of these vintage machines I suppose is for they all metal geared, no plastic or belt etc.. am I wrong?
@@yuribolognini the 15 is a very strong machine, and it will handle thicker thread than the 201.
My 21E sews regular thread beautifully but I'm having tension issues with the Gutermann M782 extra strength thread. The Singer k319 sews it tight but the Huskie leaves it proud and even on max tension, seems loose? Any advice. Much appreciated.
Hello from New Zealand. I found a nice Singer 319K and was happy until I saw this video. The two speed gearbox and free arm sold me. I was extremely fortunate to find a Husqvarna 21E. Was advertised as not having any parts or bobbins. Your video showing the accessories storage under the foot pedal case storage box clued me in and it was there! Joy! Many thanks.
I really enjoyed your thorough view of this great machine! We recently purchased one like this and it works great. Can you tell me how you found a manufacturing date? I have been researching, and everything I read from several legit sources say the number 8 was made from 1876 to 1887. Our serial number is #334551 and dates to 1878. I would appreciate any info you can share. Thanks again for the great video!
Your machine is butifull, I have always wanted a tredal foot machine.
thank you! super! I just bought a 27k with the treadle. I need to clean well, oil well, add a belt, and try it. As i don't know anything about shutle and treadle and belt I'm very happy to have seen your video before to begin the job ! 🙏
Please do not throw away these old machines they are mechanical and the parts just need replacing. I keep using my mother's 1970 machine and it does just fine if not it has continued to surprise and outlive any of the current day ones. Do not exclude 3d printers .I have used 3d printers to save many old pieces. You can use scanning software/tech to scan a workable item or quickly generate one your self i you can get down to the mm measurements.
Excellent, love Tess Bess. Andy UK
Made in Guelph Ontario if I recall. Thanks for showing us how to thread it. I have a Dominion R machine which is almost identical except the bobbin winder is lower. Someone said it looked like a Raymond so here I am. Lovely cabinet too
Thanks good video ! LOVE This machine but would be sooo happy to find a 320 at a decent price :-) BTW for some reason I thought there was an industrial bobbin case that is a work around. Can't remember what Japanese machine it is but it starts with a S ? Or maybe a fib on the internet. Is the shaft on your machine bent? Thanks again
I wonder if there's alien life in another galaxy somewhere that invented a similar machine in their early age of technological advancement, maybe even a long-gone civilisation from millions of years ago. But with the difference that it's more practical to use with the form of their bodies. Kind of a random thought that popped into my head but I wanted to share it lol
Thank you! I have had my Husky since 1977 or so and it's got some problems. Yesterday I bought a 'donor machine' for $20 and I am so excited to think I might get my lovely girl back to life!
So clearly videoed, all the details I needed. Thanks!
Thank you. Where can a replacement cam shaft be purchased?
My dad was an antique collectr and dealer - and among his vaaaast estate of ...stuff, I found some old sewing machine things, including an original Wertheim Sewing machine guide book C1890, but also a pack of Pfaff new sewing machine needles - looks to be old. ive tried a google reverse image search, but didnt have much luck. they are grooved tho -a little white but ornate packet. Any way of knowing how old they are, and who woould want them. I dont wanna throw them away. What is the correct sewing machine needle type for this machine here, the usual 12 x 1 ...? Or did they have their own standard. Fabulous restoration tho!
@@roxannlegg750 Hi there, glad you enjoyed the video. From memory I think this one took a 15x1 same as most normal domestic needles. There are many vintage and Pfaff machine groups on face book, they would be able to give you specific details on your needles, my knowledge is a bit more general.
Excellent work I go do the same with my machine ,please can show how work the tilt stop !!!!!!!!
Audio. Can't hear you even with my volume all the way up. Love the machine! Very different treadle!
Lovely extension to the machine.
That is a smart add on. Birdy
Wow. I'm surprised the UA-cam censors let that title through.
Excellent buttonholes indeed.
Marvel of fukn engineering, those things. Gotta be collectible as hell, as well? As far as rhymes go, I mean? 😆
Gorgeous!💚💕❤️👍🏻
Thank you so much, you made it so easy to repair, and very clear video.
What a beautiful old lady!
The 128 is a nice portable machine, which is quite happy to be hand cranked. Love the sound they make!
Nice!
Very pretty!
I bought a 201 a while ago, only cleaned it, I might replace some bits in the future (some accessories are rusty). It sews like a dream. I still have a modern, cheap mashine in the closet, just in case I need to zigzag something. However I find myself adjusting my sewing process to avoid using it, swapping zigzagged edged for french or flat-felled seams wherever possible, so ever since I have this singer, I have not used electric at all.
Can you replace the needle bar with a 15-91 or 201? Thanks for your help
I just came across a 12K that came with a matchbox size case of 16x231 needles & I am still trying to figure out how to fit them!! Trying to find the original 12x1s is difficult & expensive when you do in my experience. The last 2 I found were £7 each!
@@johnf4279 there are other options, you didn’t need the original needle if you are confident to make adjustments.
@@sailingtessbesssewfarnorth1746 Yes! I know that now: ) I took the needle bar out to clean & oil the front end & looking at the needle clamp closely was very instructive. My other 12K came with a standard 15x1 needle fitted when I got it so I knew the fat shanked needles will fit & work. I thought to myself at the time when this one breaks I'll have to replace it & figure out how to do it then. Trouble is it hasn't broken or worn out yet... The latest one came with no needle fitted so it had to be done pronto. Hearing you mention the 16x231 on this one prompted me to get on with it! I'm quite confident now, so thanks. Watching the shuttle catch the loop is very useful too. My RH slide plate was seemingly welded in place so I had to free that first! It's stitching perfectly now: )
Thank you for such a thoughtful and thorough video. I grew up on a Bernina 830. I sewed a lot on a PFAFF embroidery machine. But once I started sewing on a 201 I never looked back. I really like needed to size down and was very conflicted bt my 15-91s and 201. I am so glad I kept my 201. I’ve sewn more on that than any other machine. As tough as she is she sews the most beautiful rolled hem on silk
Have you ever done the timing belt replacement on one of these with the new rubber type? I like these machines but a bit worried about investing time and effort getting it modded and then ending up having to do the belt.
@@cwilliams4227 if the belt looks good, it likely is good, if not do the belt first.

Thank you for posting. As a YMI elsewhere in the UK, it's great to watch others delivering. Always makes us reflect on our own practice to see if we can cross reference, adapt or confirm what we are delivering and how we deliver it. All too often, we can be working in silos.
