I got my female dobie named Habibi at the age of 3 months, now her littermate brother came up for re-homing by his owners (they're 6 months old now), and I got him! His name is Aries. This video is VERY helpful! I've been worried about the consequences, but we're just gonna face them.. We love our babies!
Used to have 2 dobes; 1 raised from puppy another adopted from Navy member being shipped overseas. They were best friends (female & male) 1 lost suddenly from bloat years later. Could leave them outside and they would never cross property line. They played - never fought.
That is interesting to hear. Thank you for sharing. We are so sorry to hear of the death of your one Doberman as well. They both sound like great companions - especially with heeding the boundary line!
Got my first doberman Zoro, hes a little over 6 months. In a year and a half i want another one! Cant wait!!!!!! This vid will help a lot when the time comes.
Great advice for sure! We have raised two intact males from the same litter. We had some challenging times along the way- for sure. I would add - it is important to train them and and take them places together. We took them to the dog park together, trained basic obedience together side-by-side (and separate), travel together and separate. This is crucial for big world experiences as you learn together how the pack acts outside the home or in specific situations. And by pack I mean - myself, the two boys, and other family members. Best wishes for those that choose the breed and a multiple Dobie household!
Yes, 2 Red Male Dobes here. Fine until about the 14 month mark when the younger brother thought he would try to take over. Right when Covid first started - try to find a vet to neuter them. We did. The pup ended up at the vet office. Any closer and he would have needed stitches. Older Dobe, full brother, different litter, is a therapy dog and very laid back, but wasn't going to let the pup take over either. Had to go to another trainer due to the aggression, who at least gave us hope. Long process but worth it. Getting them used to a Hound of the Baskervilles muzzle has helped increase especially the younger Dobe's confidence. Good things happen when they're together and never make them feel bad about wearing one. We can now be all together without muzzles on, and even no muzzles in the back yard. Hope that helps.
Oh and any type of Nose Work helps increase the growly less confident dog's confidence. Sara Ondrako has a great video on how to make a snuffle mat with a pocket. The younger brother won't eat his lunch if it's in a dish, has to be in his snuffle mat. We just had FETCH class graduation where he ran after the ball with enthusiasm and promptly started looking for hides/treats. Ok Zoso, Nose Work it is.
Growing up, we had about 5 at all times. They had a pen of about an acre with a lot of tree cover. This was out in the country and not suburbs. I will note that they were very protective by nature and we were the only property that never got robbed. Still don't know why nobody wanted to try.
Great topic for a video. We're good with one right now with as busy as we are. Rambo is 13wks @25lbs and is doing great on training and getting exercise with our family. He's getting ALL the love to be a well mannered Doberman.
Have siblings... male & female. They get along great. The male is dominant over her. Jumps her sometimes, but doesn't hurt her and she comes up snapping at him. They have lots of running room... about 20 acres, but they prefer to stay close to the house. Will run into the woods, bark a little and then come back to the house. They are against me, when I try to walk, but after a little time they will move away and start playing. They're almost 18 months old. When outside they stay on guard and scanning the area. As soon as they come inside, they run for their crates and fall asleep. It's like they are relieved to be off guard duty. Enjoyed your video and those were things that I was already doing.
Their gender and personalities definitely have a lot to do with how they'll get along. So glad you enjoyed this video and that you're proactively already doing these things!
I have two and they’re about a year and a half apart. Luckily we do most things covered in this video, but I realize we need more separate play time a walks. Great video!! ❤
I actually have litter mates. Male and female three years old. The hardest was posting of the ears, no mater what I used to post with they would talk each other into taking the posts out. As puppies they were much easier to wear out it wasn’t me killing my self trying to wear them out, they did that all by themselves. I was super busy with two pups I had five times the cleaning with the chews and toys, blankets and bedding. Potty training was super easy, it became a game between them. I had bells on the door and boy was that fun to ring. Playing in and out was another real fun thing for them, not as much for me. I had to quit work because it was a serious full time job. Getting a sitter once in a while to take a much needed break was so important. I would say winter is really hard on the two pups. Jackets and sweaters made it easier than smart toys made it fun to stay inside. I would only bring the start toys out in the evenings. Training still is a special time just for them, it’s a one on one session and then we make a game out of it for both of them. They absolutely love showing us how smart they are. It’s a serious full time job. My female is spayed but my male is still in tact. He’s a super good boy and we don’t have any problems there. If I seen one starting I nipped it in the bud right away. My female demands more kisses and hugs when my male wants more tug of war and play. They both sleep with us but my male wants at the foot of the bed while my female wants in between us. I find when they are “protecting” us or the house they both will try and out do the other. I have to watch that. My male wants to be the dominant protector while my female demands to be the dominant protector. Fights do break out over this, but a good firm “at ease”usually tells them I’m the top dog here. I would like to get another puppy and this would be a pretty good time, but with the two personality I have in the house now, adding in another personality or one similar to either dog would really upset things.
My first pair of Dobermans were 2 yrs apart and it worked out great. My first died a year and a half ago and we got another. They are 8 yrs apart. My senior dog wasn't to happy but 15 months have passed and they get along fine. My one tip is to make sure the senior dog always gets everything first. 🐾🐾🇨🇦
I have 2, working on the third. On a list with a lady from So-Cal. Having 2 is very easy. Was extremely easy to train the second. I work from home and these types of dogs need routine schedules and consistency, perfect if you have the time to spend with them!
I have two Dobermans, and as you said, one female and a male. They are both rescues from Doberman Rescue of North Texas. The female was one year old when we met, she was three when we both went to meet the male who was 6 months old. She had no interest in him, but he came home anyway. Without knowing, I had done everything you suggest. Before bringing him home I purchased the same bed for him. Had duplicates of toys, and they both had the same bowls. The first feeding was with them in opposite sides of the second floor, and remains the same. Now, two years later they are best buds. They also enjoy their personal time with me for individual training, walks, or ball toss. Probably the best is the female is always busy with things to do it seems, while the male is who I call my Stoner Boy. He is happy to chill and let her run the show. Tell him all the time if he were human he would be a teenage stoner listening to tunes all day. While she keeps us all going. Thanks for all your videos and getting it right. Dobermans are amazing animals and just want to love and be loved. Makes it kind of easy.
i got my hands full enough with one, i couldnt imagine having two right now in my living situation. one dobie works really well with me, if i had a fenced in yard that was big enough for 2 i wouldnt even question it!
Absolutely We have 2.. Red male Hans Gruber. 10 months old...93 lbs Female, Maze....black and rust. 15 months old. 75 lbs. Love it. Wouldn't have it any other way. They don't do anything without my say-so lol Firm hand but fair. We're long haul truckers so they travel with us. Need to sleep in the same space 😂 Great video
I had an American female, black and tan. 2 years old and she pretty much tought my European, Red male, potty training. The only time they fought was over wild animals. A rabbit and a squirrel. I wasn't outside when it happened. Always watch your Dobermans together. Lessons learned
I have 2 girls. 3.5 year old Katyusha and 6 month old Zastava. I realize I could be in for some headaches. I do feed mine in the same room at the same time but they have been trained that at mealtime, you mind your own business and they are not allowed to approach each other until they are all finished eating (the third dog is a blind 11 yr old male lab mix). They must sit and wait for my release at the door in order to get outside. They play rough a lot, and they do seem to love each other and show signs of each caring for the other one. Every once in a while the younger one will go overboard and the older isn't having it so SNARL SNAP YIPE YIPE and the baby backs off. I always praise the older one for being assertive. I think one thing I do that is most helpful with all my dogs is I make sure they each get a date night with me and only one of them, the other 2 can stay home while I take one out for treats and bonding.
I learn a lot from your videos before, I have 2 doberman 8 month of age. After my experience you need to respect the pack order. The female was stronger I the beginning, earned her position to be the first on my attention. But by the time the male grow up bigger and be now the alpha next to me. It worked just great out. Now the male follow up my command on her, example sit, the male use his pawn on her back until she sit. She play hard on the children entering the room, the male put her down instantly. I think, because I respect the order, he respected my way much easier then a static way. Let them deal out who is the leader and you lead the leader, both get same love, only different is, who got it first.
I have two, works really well. Ziva is almost 6, when she was 2 we got Tony. Ziva was already spayed, Tony is still intact. I show him. Ziva is American, Tony is Euro/ American. She is the top dog between the two of them, when they play he just rolls over on his back and lets her flea bite on his neck. I sit on the couch and they both sit on either side of me. Sleep on their own dog beds, side-by-side on the floor on my side of the bed. We are having a bit of a time right now. Sturgis Motorcycle Rally just started, and Tony doesn’t like the motorcycles, so he is barking a lot. Time to work out that energy extra hard, and work through motorcycle fear or aggression.
So glad to hear your Ziva and Tony are getting along well in your house! It sounds like they are great companions. That motorcycle rally would be hard for a lot of Dobies. Check out desensitization training - there are some good videos of that out there that might help for next year!
@@DobermanPlanet thanks, I’ll look into those. He has a problem with firecrackers and thunderstorms too, just recently for some reason, so I’ll have a look into those!
Could you make a video on the pros and cons of having a Dobie as a service dog? Specifically, a Psychiatric Service Dog (which is very different from an Emotional Support Animal). The Doberman seems like almost the perfect breed for service dog work.
Have 2 dobies..A 4 yr old unaltered male and a 2 yr old spayed rescue female. The male is European and the female is American. When we decided on getting a second dobie, we took the male for a meet and greet in a neutral place to see if he would get along with the female. Well, not only did he get along with the female, he was in love with her. Our male is so laid back and twice her size that she pretty much gets away with whatever she wants with him. She loves play nibble on his neck. It is cute. She has prey drive and guards her food but that is ok. They all get along. They are all fed the same food. She naps with him in his bed. They lay close together in my husband's office. They play with each other all the time. We are both home most of the time so they get plenty of attention, exercise and interaction with our two other older spayed females. All of our dogs are indoor pups. They get 3 walks evenly spaced out throughout the day. After their first morning walk but before breakfast, the two dobies run and play in the backyard for about 15 minutes then they come inside for breakfast then the female gets on the bed with the other two females and falls asleep after she eats her breakfast. Our male is named Panzer because he is 135 lbs of pure muscle. A beautiful dog. Panzer means tank in German. The rescue female we named Raina or Rai for short which means Queen in German. She is about 75 lbs. Rai and Panzer are very obedient when called to come in from outside. Rai learns from Panz and tries to imitate what he does. So fun to watch her learn from him. Rai knows how to open doors too. Panz hasn't learned that trick but know how to sit, stay, down, up, come and so does Rai. Our dobies only get German names too. Rai and Panzer are very settled with each other now. They have been together a year and a half and understand and have an established routine and it suits them. They have plenty of durable kong like toys to play with. They both are beginning to grow out of the toy stage and enjoy each other's company the most. They are velcro dogs for sure. We feel very much protected around them. They are very socialized with other dogs and people. We are very fortunate to have two dobies that are a breeze to care for. We love them very much and it shows. I would not get two dobies from the same litter that is for sure and the male/female combo/2 yrs apart is the best option. I enjoy your videos. Keep up the great work.
We have 2 as well, brother and sister. We also have a husky who is 4 yrs older and a lab who is 3 yrs older. They all seem to get along. The only thing my 2 dobies do that is kinda strange is they bark at family members coming out of there rooms in the house. Like they are guarding us from people inside the house..
Haha, I’m so lucky how it’s worked out, I have a 2 year old boy who is quite a bit stronger & a girl who is 3 months behind in age, quite a bit smaller but she has incredible work drive, the net result is equality when it comes to things like playing tug of war & doing Dobe kung fu moves, they get on really well, I’m not convinced there’s a peeking order, if anything my little girl is the alpha dog. I would say the key thing is providing strong leadership, e.g. you’re the alpha dog, when they realize that they’re not in charge, most of the potential anxieties just lift away. People often say, gosh! they’re so well behaved, have they been to puppy school? I say, Puppy school...no way, they’ve been in Doberman boot camp. Finally, be firm, but fair with discipline, provide this & the more they will love you.
I have a 4 year female Doberman and a rescue 1 year old male mixed Doberman. They are great sharers both toys and their separate food. Problem is when playing the male bites lightly and sometimes the growls scare me that one is going to get hurt but then they stop. Any suggestions- the female was born deaf and unless she looks at me she does not see the sign language.😅 They both sleep with me at different spots on bed.
Your deaf girl might be able to be taught to look for your sign language by percussion. Tap something on the floor hard enough that she will feel it. Of course this wouldn't work outside. Your young one might like the job of getting deaf girl's attention for you too. They love to have jobs and can be taught literally any task.
to some, it's a joy...it takes alot of your time and money...and dogs do get sick...my nephew's little dog had an eye infection and still not cured with meds so far but it has cost him over $3k...i told him to be prepared that his dog might need surgery to take the eye out if all fails...i hope not...i don't know..
We have 2 Dobermans and this is not our first time having 2. Male and female of different ages. They eat and sleep in their crates. They play together or explore together and usually get along or at least tolerate each other, but not always. Each has bonded to a different human. Male is intact with no bad behaviors. Female is spayed. Female is oldest. We live on a 20 acre farm. He runs the property several times a day to inspect it, always checking in within moments. She is not territorial like he is. They do occasionally kill together. A squirrel, turkey or whatnot, and they like to dig for rodents together. We make it work. They are not related. They are both protective and do that together.
Zeus male who is 9 years old this October, when he was nearly 6 we got a female dobi, she bonded with him straight away. She use to get in he’s basket and sleep with him. Freya loves Zeus to bits. She is now 3 years old. So really good age gap between them. Freya is the bully, so does get told of. She likes biting him. One eats in one area and the other in the other end of kitchen.
I’ve had 2 Dobermans at the same time twice. Both times I had a male and female. A mother/son combo and the other 2 were 3 years apart. The males always wanted to prove their dominance so I had to break up a lot of dog fights. Jealousy definitely exist with Dobermans. I wouldn’t suggest it unless you have a large house with a lot of backyard space. Both of the females were super sweet but there’s something about male Dobermans that would make me think twice about having 2. I definitely wouldn’t own 2 males at the same time. I love the breed but 2 is a lot to deal with.
My Wife and I want 2 females. We think. I am truck driver and she is at home. Two sisters sounds not a good idea. In home but what about if one stays away a while home every 3-4 weeks. Then they can play when home I hope. Your thoughts. Thanks
Never had problems with any dogs until I ended up with two female Doberman. I am not sure if this is great advise but it works for me. When they have their teeth showing with their hair. If I have no other control and can't immediately separate them. I leave the area. They stop aggressing to follow me. Of course, if I had leash control, that's different, but I'm talking about those situations where they want the same toy and out of nowhere they are about to attack each other. I love them, but the few times they got at each other, scary. Luckily it has not happened in a while. Personally, I can have many dogs, but just one Doberman, but that is me. They want to be your Huckleberry. m + m 😊 f + m 😊 f+f ⛈️. Oh 2yr old American and a 8 yr old European. Not littermates.
I have a 2 1/2 year old doberman that is so focused on me and doesn't allow other dogs to be around me so I am concerned about getting another dog. What do you think?
Definitely would cause jealousy issues right off the bat. You'll have to get your other Doberman to be okay with other dogs before bringing in another one.
I got my female dobie named Habibi at the age of 3 months, now her littermate brother came up for re-homing by his owners (they're 6 months old now), and I got him! His name is Aries. Another great breed of dog!

Could you make a video on the pros and cons of having a Dobie as a service dog? Specifically, a Psychiatric Service Dog (which is very different from an Emotional Support Animal). The Doberman seems like almost the perfect breed for service dog work.
Really enjoy your shows. I had a dobie man i loved that dog. Want to get another but they have such short life spans
They do, sadly. We have had some people message us that their Dobermans lived to be 16 or 17 years old, though! So there is hope.
How did Higgins handle them on Magnum PI with Zeus and Apollo? Lol.
Any recent updates on DCM issue in Dobermans??
Does Ollie distribute its delicious food in Europe? Writing from Poland 😊
Hahaha that is true!
You remind me of Luke from THE OUTDOOR BOYS channel. (Sorry off topic i know 😁)
This has been a huge issue in our house, I want another baby , Zeke is crazy
Screw that!!!! One is enough!!!! Get them a playmate, but another dobe is nuts!!!!
to some, it's a joy...it takes alot of your time and money...and dogs do get sick...my nephew's little dog had an eye infection and still not cured with meds so far but it has cost him over $3k...i told him to be prepared that his dog might need surgery to take the eye out if all fails...i hope not...i don't know..
😂 they ARE pretty busy lol
Male 125 pounds 90 pound female. Same parents 2 years age difference. Super close.
I have 3 Europeans, a male and female who are both 3yrs old and a 2yr old female.
Great food for thought!
lol...first thing i thought of was double the poop, double the food, double everything...i would love to have two
My Wife and I want 2 females. We think. I am truck driver and she is at home. Two sisters sounds not a good idea. In home but what about if one stays away a while home every 3-4 weeks. Then they can play when home I hope. Your thoughts. Thanks
Zeus and Apollo here I come!
Sir mujhe India ke varanasi city me pyur dobarman breed kaise milega jis bread ko ap achcha mante hai.
research, there must be some good breeders in your country...if you buy out of country, just like anything else, it will cost you $$$$
I have a 2 1/2 year old doberman that is so focused on me and doesn't allow other dogs to be around me so I am concerned about getting another dog. What do you think?
you already answered your own question...it would be difficult but with your perseverance, you can make it happen...
Definitely would cause jealousy issues right off the bat. You'll have to get your other Doberman to be okay with other dogs before bringing in another one.
People don’t get a second dog. Most people can’t handle one dog. Just being honest. Former Doberman owner one at a time.
Then you came to the wrong channel.
Too much work
For you
