Haas Lathe Soft Jaws, Boring Rings, and VPS Templates - Haas Automation, Inc.

- We've just added lathe soft jaws and boring rings to the Lathe Workholding category on HaasTooling.com! We've got a wide range of jaw sizes to fit chucks from 5" to 15" in diameter. There are square and pointed jaws in both aluminum and steel, as well as aluminum pie jaws. And we're carrying two different styles of boring rings to give you options for how you clamp the jaws as you cut your jaw profiles.
And then to top it off we've created new VPS "Jaw Boring" templates that walk you through creating the code to cut your jaws. These include options for 1-step and 2-step jaws and also the chamfering and back face reliefs that make soft jaw profiles fully functional.
Product Specialist Bhop Singh introduces us to the various jaws and boring rings and then walks us thru programming a 2-step set of jaws using the VPS template.

If you don't have these VPS templates on your lathe (and it has NGC software release 100.21.000.1130 or later) you can download and install the templates from the Boring Ring webpage.

I love the idea of the templates. It would be great to have VPS templates on the mills for cutting dovetails into the stock for 5 axis work.

Is there a way to add these templates to a 2019 ds30y with the ngc or will it require an entire software update?
This is very nice and informative video, but how do you cut ID jaws? No possibility to use such ring...
zyndapp800, Check out our Cutting Lathe Soft Jaws Part 2 video: ua-cam.com/video/-AyMQNoaBjc/v-deo.html . . . starting at around 2:20 we talk about using a scroll style jaw boring ring which can be setup so that it clears the outside diameter of the jaws.

The programs weren't on my TL2, but you can find them on the Haas tooling page, if you go to where they sell lathe jaw boring rings. The instructions worked, I have the template, but it doesn't show like when you normally select a VPS template. The instructions tell you to press F1, this makes it visible. Now to buy/make some soft jaws for my Samchully chuck!
