4:00 Small duchy of lithuania
It's not Litva, it's Belarus
@@yiyuy This is not Lithuania and Bularus. This principality was formed on the territory of Belarus and Lithuania. Now many people think that the Grand Duchy of Lithuania is Lithuania, but this is not so. The Grand Duchy of Lithuania is both Lithuania and Belarus together. When the Slavs came north to the Baltic, the Balts became Slavic. So if, under the 3rd division of the Polish-Lithuanian Commowealth, the lands of Belarus would become independent before Lithuania, then Belarus would be called Lithuania. Earlier, before Rusinization, the Belarusian lands of all Belarusians were called Litvin.
Novogrudok was the first capital of Grand Duchy of Lithuania. It's belarus sity since 1044.
Litvin is a term used in historical sources to refer to the population of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. As a rule, the term meant both ethnic Lithuanians and today's Belarusians.
In the XIV-XVIII centuries, this term was used to designate mainly Belarusians and Eastern Lithuanians, who were opposed to neighboring ethnographic groups - Rusyns, Lyakhams, Mazuras, Samogitians, Prussians, Volynians and others.

There some issues with consistency.. For some countries you listed under as in modern government(aka modern representation of the country today) while for others you used the formation of the type of nation state(aka modern country’s existence, irregardless of its government or politics in that time). For example for Germany you used FRG since it’s the modern government of Germany today, while for Italy its Rome since it forged the existence of some Italian state. @@slout2672 the free city of gdansk was around when poland was, however not when the free city of cracow, since its polands historical capital it kinda counts as poland
6:52 Switzerland was really independent in 1291 (August 1st) !
Im pretty sure that Germany's smallest extent could technically be during when it was Brandenburg, or Prussia, or you could use one of the countless nations of the HRE, anything from Bavaria, to Hamburg
well, the thing is, modern Germany is a far different concept than it used to be, the hre isnt really the German state, it was a grouping of small states vaguely bound together, even Prussia was only smallest of early 1900s germany, today's is germany, the past ones were some power holding it
Lol, this chart is so missleading. Allow me, as a hungarian:
Hungary was formed in 895 AD. Our territory was small, because we were in the middle of conquering Hungary. Later in that very same year, 895 AD, Hungary became as big as the entire Carpatian Basin. The sad truth is, Hungary's smallest extent is its current form.
But the Video was still accuarate, by finding the smallest extend for Hungary existing at any time. Or am i wrong? Kind of confused now.
I guess it depends on whether you count the times when Hungary was conquered. The Austrians and Ottomans took control of Hungarian land for a very long time.
yeah this is the major flaw of this video, like the Cracow thingy, it wasnt independent, it wasnt Poland, it wasnt a sovereign polish state so you cant say it was Poland. Same with few other countries. Like, a country that is small bcs its in the middle of conquering smth or at the end of losing the war, that doesnt really count.
@@greywolf7577 I mean, yeah, if we count those too, there was a time when Hungary was basically gone because some other nation occupied it entirely...but this goes for amost every nation. Man this question is trickier than it first sounds.
Germany is not true because the Saarland was autonomous in 1949, so that should be the smallest point, not 1989
made the same point
Also the Netherlands gave territory back to the Federal Republic of Germany. 😉
