Thank you all so much for the support, I really appreciate every single one of you!
Until next time, peace!
Why would Weir have an emotional reaction to her own death? It's just one of a multiverse of her after all, LOL...
Coming face to face with your own mortality is about as existential as it gets...
Kolya thinks it absurd that the expedition think they have a greater claim to Atlantis than the Genii even though they are from a different galaxy.
We now know definitively that not only did the Ancients leave Atlantis for Earth, but that Atlantis could only be dialled from Earth.
Dude same with the oily skin and glasses issues. It can create sores on my nose if I don't clean my face often.
😭🫡 we In this together g
Here's an insane detail:
Moros, the old guy on the Atlantis council? That's Merlin, the same character (played by the same actor) who creates the Sangraal to destroy the Ori. He's introduced as a one-off side character in an Atlantis episode, months before he shows up in the season 9 premiere of SG-1. And the show never even draws attention to it.
For me at least, I think of the franchise in comparison to Star Trek.
SG1 is The Next Generation, Atlantis is the Voyager of the franchise, and Universe is the DS9.
Just in terms of tone and feel.
I never noticed before and had never really thought about it but John is the reason they went back in time! He was saying he wish he had a manual/knowledge to fly the jumper and then suddenly he was in a time where there were people- the Ancients- still around to teach him. That's so well thought out wow
He also touched a button on the console.
Also explains where the time machine in SG-1 comes from.
That was one of my favourite part about both SG-1 and Atlantis. Usually back then the shows that had spin-offs did intertwined with each other but very rarely, often just throwing some references or single characters. But SG-1 and Atlantis did much more.
Oh sh*t. I never even made the connection. Jeez, I'm dense.
One thing worth appreciating is how this ties in with other episodes featuring the Ancients. The woman who suggests blocking the gate is the same woman who's the hologram in the first SGA episode. Moros, who is so upset with Janus for breaking the rules, will turn out to become a bit of a rule breaker himself later on in SG-1. And though Janus doesn't appear again, he does mention building another time machine, which also ties into SG-1.
Btw, the title is a reference to a Robert Frost poem "Stopping by woods on a snowy evening" that ends with "and miles to go before I sleep".
Janus was also a Roman god in mythology. The month January was also named after him.
I wish we could have more historical and mythology based strories in the 4th SG show. Writers could fill the plot holes in the timelines while the audience could hear lovely stories about how the Ancients or other aliens lived amongst humans and how their Latin language became popular.
Man, I completely forgot that Moros was actually "him" in SG-1. That was neat indeed.
I have the piece of paper with the gate addresses McKay and Sheppard are holding at the end of the episode. I bought it at auction.
I always get emotional watching this episode. That piano soundtrack that plays in the background. It's hauntingly beautiful.
14:26 I love how they’re arguing about what their alternate timeline counterparts failed to do🤣
yesterday i was about to give up hope. well.... now its here. never give up hope, the next stargate-video will come🙏
The old ancient man at the meating went to Earth and later became Merlin(in SG1).
This episode actually aired before the SG1 Episode. The Atlantis time machine was dismantled and Janus built the other one in secret after he returned to the Milky Way Galaxy.
The first season of Atlantis is amazing. The isolation, the hope...
🤝
Its even cooler once you realize that old guy is Merlin
Lmao spoiler bruh
@IceTdog4054 I mean you not wrong, but you should know he is WAY past this season, he's actually been done with season 10 of sg-1 for a while now.
Giving them locations of somr zpms is nice. But it would have been far more helpful to ask where the instructions for making them are.
I thought you abandoned us. Glad we´re back to watching Stargate!
When I saw the video I was like Oh yeah this guy, wondered what else I've misded... nothing, he just hasn't uploaded in over three weeks lol
🔥🔥
I absolutely love this episode. A What If episode, SGA style. First time we've learned about the Ancients in the final days of the war, when Atlantis was at its peak. Moros, the great ruler who prevented the timeline from being broken just because it's against the rules, we will later learn broke the rules himself. Janus we know will play a role couple of times himself. And we're getting ZPMs??? Let's go.
ZPMs for the win. Great point on it being a. What if
And this is how you do time travel. The time travel itself is the cause of losing the time machine in that way you don't have to ask why the character don't solve all the future problems using their new time travel capabilities. It also solve any forced narrative of how well prepared was Atlantis for the SGA team arrival.
Yeah, this episode was not one of my favorites. I appreciate it for what it is, and it is crazy to think of what could've been. It's nice to know locations of other ZPMs, which imho was the goal of the episode. Give someone with greater knowledge a way out of the situation that the current team was stuck in... a heading and some goals to achieve for future episodes... but all in all, it was a little meh. In my opinion at least.
And I do agree that seeing yourself like that should've elicited a bigger response from current Weir. Although I don't know how I would respond if I came across an ancient version of myself. And we don't know what she was like behind the scenes. We only see her while she's leading the base, not when she's alone in her room, for example. She might keep a brave face in front of others. Yet the initial shock of discovery should've been clear on her face, which- well... it kind of wasn't. It's something that's always somewhat bothered me about this episode.
Also, I do believe SG1 was rated slightly higher than Atlantis, but only by half a point or something. Both shows were rated highly though.
Personally I prefer Atlantis, although I've seen both to the end and I'll gladly watch either one of them again.
I like alternate universe episodes. What could've been... Not a big fan of Weir's stoic acting but the story was good.
I basically watched SG series as they came out. SG1, SGA, SGU.
This is one of those episodes that is technically rich in mythology but is strangely boring despite it. I've always been lukewarm on this one. I think my biggest problem is that the narrative is delivered through Weir who is, imo, like a block of wood in most of her scenes in this show. The actress lacks the ability to emote and the writing doesn't help her out since she's never written with any kind of personality other than "expedition leader".
I wish the person they discover in stasis had been Zelenka or Sheppard instead. Sheppard is limited as an actor but he's charming and carries scenes well even if he rarely elevates it. Zelenka would have been the best candidate, a character with a fun, interesting personality and possibly more interesting perspective than Weir. Plus, the actor's pretty good.
Ive always had the thought after seeing this episode that Janus could have been in the background just out of sight watching events play out perhaps as the last surviving ancient simply riding the waves of time instead of ascending.
I actually saw this episode before I saw atlantis as a whole. I can't remember the context for it, but when I got here watching season 1 I was like "...wait a minute!?" XD And strangely enough it's still now one of my favorites in the entire run of the show
Wooo you're back!! 😍😍🎉🎉
It's cool how Moros becomes Merlin.
I didn't get it the first time either. Now, I kinda appreciate it. Smart writing. The water is starting to look dated, but otherwise ok.
Noone dearly missed a man's reactions to the Stargate Universe SciFi on UA-cam.
💙
liked. lets watch.
PS: one of noone's favorite episodes of SG-A, right up there with season x episode xx and season y episode yy ...
😜😘
I live in TO as well and the idea that a 2 room apartment is so completly unafordable for 1 person is absolutly correct. Without having any idea of the price id guess $2300 minimum/month. Hilarious.
Can't wait for the next one!!
SG-1 was the best ratings and due to that was extended 3 seasons more. than what was supposed to last. Stargate Universe was the worst rating and because of that was cancelled prematurely. I liked the premise of SU, though it was way more darker than what the fandom was used back then.
this is my absolute favourite episode of the stargate franchise, maybe even my favourite tv episode of all series I`ve ever watched. I was recently wondering how to write a fanfiction using both this episode and the pilot episodes.
SG-1 episode 1969 made time travel cannon
Yessir!
You asked about Atlantis vs SG-1. For me I first saw a bit of an Atlantis episode as a kid and thought it "I need to see that" but only years later did I figure out what show it was. Then I learned about SG-1 after that so I've always been so excited on your journey because now I get to watch them in parallel with you.
😮💨❤️
I prefer SG1 but think SGA i think is better written overall
Good episode and emotional. I wish Alt Weir had been ascended.
Remember Janis. And remember Moross. Haha
Great reaction as always! Any firefly on the horizon?
With Amazon about to bring Stargate back, many fans would love an Ancients prequel series.
Love this show
I thought the ancients would have looked more ancienty.
Right? 😂
💙
A spinoff series focusing on the Ancients would be pretty interesting.
**maybe** kinda got tired of them by the end, we know so much about them
"Was just stealing a breath of fresh air" "Return it" Shouldn't have found it as funny as I did 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Keep the SG videos coming 👍
Ok
When u see a video on your subs feed and cant remember if u was subscribed to that channel because u dont see any new stuff in months.
One of my favorite episode..
PS comment 6 .. How did nobody recognize that she looked like Dr. Weir just older ?? I could tell it was her the second i saw her
Preconception. They were so sure she was an ancient all other options were thrown out the window.
Lots of connections to sg1 stuff in this one.
The only logic error is in the story why the time jumper was not in the bay in our main timeline. I mean if it was there originally then it should have showed up with the same chance again. But let's assume that was one of the differences between the timelines.
I always stongly believed that John was an Ancient since the beginning. It would have been cool to reveal such plot later if the alternateJohn was studying with the Ancients.
I was sorry for alternateWeir too as she wasted her whole life for deliviring the message. She could have written down extended notes.
Haven't watched the episode in a long time but in the new timeline don't they destroy all of his research and they leave the pegasus galaxy so therefore he never went on to build a time jumper in Atlantis. But knowing it could be done, he picked up his research again in our galaxy which is how a similar ship turns up in SG-1 years later.
Not if Janus stopped working on it to solve the ZPM issue at hand, or as was the case here if I recall correct, his research and equipment was taken by the council after Weir's appearance revealed what he had secretly been working on. The bigger question is how he kept it secret the first time while having his time-machine in the same hangar as all the other puddle jumpers.
@@Rikard_Nilsson I like both of your explanation. Maybe he restarted the experiment at Maybourne's planet as he must have been the one who had written those notes. In mythology he was the two-faced god which must be a reference to his hidden agenda.
Stargate threated time travel too easily a few times. I mean if you noticed the time travel stories are mostly one way as the travelers stuck in the past and they can't return to the future as their action will create uncountable new realities. But why would any reality or character sacrifice themselves for such a reality which hasn't got any effect on them? I mean it is very noble, but not logical. I was also not a big fan of item duplications on SGU, but that is a spoiler here.
@@PlatschuIt's directly mentioned in the episode that the Time Jumper, and all the research accociated with it, had been destroyed thanks to Weir's appearance.
Looking forward to the end of this season.
One of my favorite episodes :)
Merlin
this episode introduced both Janis and Moros. two characters that will have impacts on the future of the Gate-verse.
This show has quite a wonderful amount of great episodes.
I concur

Woof
Classic Stargate episode, one of those that pull together threads from before to tie it all together and provide new threads for the future.
The conflicting High Council members Janus and Moros (Merlin) here are two of the most important named Ancients as well, both having significant plot importance in SG-1 and SGA.
Stargate has some episodes which get even better on rewatch as you discover details that became important later, and this episode both make RIsing more interesting to rewatch and it becomes more interesting to watch after seeing more of SGA and SG-1 to come imo.
One thing I also love this episode for is showing us Ancients in distress fighting the Wraith, it shows how they could give up on a war they on paper should be able to win, eventually the war just wore them out, too few were left and they no longer had the will to continue. I think Janus is the only one here who had true hope they would ever come back to Atlantis as well, the rest of the Council seem resigned to leaving for good. This is also confirmed on SG-1 when we hear about the Ancients who returned. They spread out across Earth or left via the Antarctic gate and worked on ascension or teaching the ancient human civilizations things and then they vanished. They basically never tried to rebuild their civilization, even the "headgrabbers" filled with their knowledge were just there to hold their legacy not to aid them in rebuilding. This very moment is essentially when the last remnant of the Ancient's civilization died, from this point there would be no population centers of Ancients left in the known universe outside of the ascended planes (I don't count the Ori given the millions of years of separation between their peoples.)
I'll always prefer SG1 over SGA because of the too visible plot holes. Unfortunately I think the SGA story is actually hindered by the Ancients' involvement, even if their flashback episodes are interesting. There is something that happens in a later SGA season that makes Janus providing the 5 gate addresses odd, outside of Timey Wimey Weir just collecting the ZPMs in the past.
And there are lots of things that happen in later seasons of SGA and SG1 that are really puzzling when thinking about the war with the Wraith.
I wonder why the Ancients didn't contact their allies for help fighting the Wraith. I have no doubt the Asgard would have helped and had some very useful knowledge especially when taking future seasons into account. (A rather large plot hole emerges)
For me, it comes off as though SGA didn't have a plan, so the writers wrote themselves into corners and had no reasonable way out.
The alliance of the four races wasn't born yet. It started in the Milky Way after the Ancients moved there and it's where the Asgard are from originally before moving to another galaxy themselves.
Got here just in time to post the 5th comment
When you see the "old woman" for the first time you know that is Elizabeth then you hear her speak you can't deny it's her
