This episode reminded me a lot of the movie "Galaxy Quest" the way a random person had the inside info and connected with the real thing. Definitely one of the best SG-1 episodes!
The Simpsons references were great too, because the actor playing Joe was Dan Castellaneta, who is the voice of Homer (and a bunch of other Simpsons characters).
@@jasoncaldwell5627 Hehehe, the first time I saw this episode back in the day I couldn't stop giggling my arse off because O'Neill is like the biggest Simpsons fan, not only is he always talking about that show but he occasionally has Homer-like moments throughout the show like when he plays a dum-dum every time Carter is talking science to him. It was a very meta episode, Jack "Homer" O'Neill next to the real Homer Simpson!
this episode is one of my favorites too, but i do wish they went into a TINY bit more detail, like his wife's reaction when jack tells here that his stories were all true and that she cant tell anyone blah blah blah, like i want to know, do they get back together? did that fix their marriage
This was the first clipshow episode of SG-1 I actually liked, mainly because all of the previous clipshow episodes were based around senator Kinsey interrogating SG-1 and I hated that guy.
@@Siegbert85 In early seasons Christopher Judge wore a goldish makeup. I think to make him look more alien like since the Jaffa aren't humans. But as the show progressed they started to reduce the amount of makeup until got rid of it completely.
I absolutely agree, this is one of the most creative and entertaining ways to do a clip episode. I really liked the fact that they were showing the events of someone else's life on Earth during some of the major events being experienced by SG-1 since almost the beginning of the show. And tying it all in with one of the Ancient communication stones was just brilliant. Also gotta appreciate the happy ending where Joe finally gets his closure on the whole mess, and he and Darlene could begin the process of trying to reconcile their marriage (which in all honesty I hope they did).
Joe's wife telling him the team doesn't feel like before (the reason Michael Shanks gave to quit SG-1 for a year) just before seeing his death/ascension... PERFECT ! Meta at its best.
Ah yes, the voice actor of Homer Simpson episode of SG1. RDA and him actually went to acting school together, which is probably why O'Neill's favorite show is the Simpsons. Pretty cool way to do a clip show episode. Like, SG1 and SGA did clip show episodes amazingly. Those 25 minutes of plot in these episodes are always brilliant. Politics in s1, Disclosure in S6, Inauguration in S7 and now Citizen Joe. They're all very fun, considering they're just clip show episodes.
that episode was awesome. but just now i realized the furling-ewok connection to a later episode and .. lmao. i think you already saw that on patreon xD
You could say another succesful clipshow without doing a clipshow. How do these people keep hitting homeruns with these? All the while introducing new tech and plot devices.... Masterclass
HIlarious, he gets back intouch having thought that world lost forever, & it's, hilarious. Also, his wife clearly didn't fking love. "It was your obsession with that stone", and?... wtf did it actually do, it gave him a passionate focus
I was always so mad at Joe's wife while watching this episode. He found real evidence and she was still like "mehmeh get a doctor" :D I am so happy she understood at the end.
Please make a UA-cam just about this episode. I think I can speak for all when I say that we would like to hear more about it lol. It's also one of my favorite SG-1 episodes of all time.
he's laughing because it's a moment that was written with borderline comedic timing, and is relatable in a way that shows the writers knew their audience. things can be both funny and dramatic.
This is the best clip show in television history because it breaks the #1 rule of clip shows: Don't Burn Down the World. Every other clip show sets some sortt of frame story (getting trapped in a stuck elevator, a main character ends up in a coma, or the characters are put on trial) that never really goes anywhere because they invariably come out of the situation just fine. A clip show is not worthy of persistent consequences for the main characters... ...this episode gets around that by not involving a main character at all. So the consequences in the frame story can be real-- as a result, the frame story itself _is real._
This was one of the most memorable episodes for being so meta before that became a thing. Joe's reactions to the stories/episodes he sees, makes him the biggest in-universe SGC fan. And the fact this episode gives us the mechanism by which seasons 9 & 10 begin, making contact w/ the Ori is incredible, looking at the past and preparing for future events
This IS the best episode of the series! But I must correct you. In the opening scene Jack is NOT taking out the trash. You don't bring the bags of trash back IN to the house after having just taken them out. But they do look like trash bags, not grocery bags. I'll give you that. No, he is obviously bringing in groceries and preparing for a weekend of relaxation. Never seen your show watching show before. I have seen that episode several times, and it's obvious to ME that you have butchered it in many places. You cut things out, and it seems like you've sped up some parts also, but not much, and not where there is talking. I might be wrong about the speeding up, but I'm absolutely right that you've edited many scenes out. I hate shows about some host watching a show or something. Don't ask why, you don't want me to say.
I watched your videos sometimes since 1 year I think ( only Stargate ) And your passion growing aside of the serie. Now, with your reaction today (yeah I know, 1 month ago...) you gain a new follower from France 🟦⬜🟥 Here in France, we love Stargate. So well written ! So fun, so emotional, so much suspens, so good actors.... SO GOOD ! sorry for my bad English but I am French, so.... Keep a good work !
I have always thought SG-1 handled clip shows the best as a series. Some others have had a clever clip show, or not use them all together. SG-1 consistently made clip shows that integrated well into the story and some even introduced major turning points. Such as the reveal of the Stargate to ambassadors from China, France, and the UK. They just had a knack for including them in the stories and with 20+ episodes a season, 1 clip episode such as what SG-1 was just as great to watch.
maybe your favourite episode but completely unrealistic since if someone knew classified material he wasn't supposed to know things wouldn't be pleasant so to speak.
am I tripping or is this one of the best episodes of the show?

You ARE trippin. The whole first half is filler. Not worth the cast's time. And the second half, while good, doesn't make up for it. #ClipShowsMustDIE
@@Sc0pe777Oh shit, I didn't even realize he's Homer's voice actor 🤯

200 is gonna be a hell of a thing 😏
Imagine a show so well written that a clipshow episode can be one of the best episodes in 10 full seasons.
200 is amazing too, and it's a (fake) clip show.
The Stargate franchise is one of the few series that can pull off a clipshow properly.
This was the first clipshow episode of SG-1 I actually liked, mainly because all of the previous clipshow episodes were based around senator Kinsey interrogating SG-1 and I hated that guy.
All SG-1 clipshow episodes are good.
@@krashdand in spite of that, they still had great moments.
...i SUPREME Commander.
Meta before meta became overplayed. There are so many levels to this episode. The more you watch it the better it gets
I love how they weren't afraid to poke fun at themselves- even knocking episodes like The Sentinel and how T' no longer wears gold makeup!
"What about the Furlings?"
I didn't get the gold makeup thing. When did Teal'c wear gold make up?
@@Siegbert85 In early seasons Christopher Judge wore a goldish makeup. I think to make him look more alien like since the Jaffa aren't humans. But as the show progressed they started to reduce the amount of makeup until got rid of it completely.
SG-1 and SG:A being self-aware is the reason they are some of the best TV shows ever aired.
@@poochyenajones1362 Yeah- they REALLY poked fun of it in the Wormhole Extreme episode!
To make this even more meta when joe was crying over daniels death you should of put your reaction right next to it

111% GOAT'ed episode. They know how to make certain episodes special to where it feels like a movie.
Can’t wait for 200
it's funny how important that device becomes for SG-1 and SGU
ESPECIALLY SGU LOL
Joe's wife telling him the team doesn't feel like before (the reason Michael Shanks gave to quit SG-1 for a year) just before seeing his death/ascension... PERFECT !
Meta at its best.
I said it before, but the episodes where SG series goes all weird and meta are usually among the best ones.

that episode was awesome. but just now i realized the furling-ewok connection to a later episode and .. lmao. i think you already saw that on patreon xD
Such a great episode! Usually “clip episodes” are among the worst of a particular season…but not this time, people!!! Such a great ending too!
I think Jack said nothing of his visions of Joe's life for seven years because he was worried he was crazy and tried to hide it.
Or he figured it was just daydreams he had in order to cope with the insanity that was his actual life.
@@darkstar3116
They couldn't come at inopportune times though.
They could only come when Jack was on base near the stone.
Did they cast Dan Castellaneta on purpose to be kinda meta because of Jack's love for the Simpsons?
Yes.
Well Jack's love of Simpsons comes from RDA's love for it.
Writer 1: What if a Stargate fan ended up _in_ the show?
Writer 2: Well, that's just the premise of Gwenpool, but I like the idea...
Ah, these stones.

To this day I hoped Joe could go to Atlantis. They need a barber that can use the Chair better than most
The 200th episode should be fun for him.
I love this episode. The whole concept that Jack has been day dreaming about bowling and never gave it a second thought is right on character.
Gargoyles had an episode like this! 😂 Was so much fun!
Ah the day Homer met Macguyver
“Chores?! What are we, Amish?!”
I love that kid🤣
The serious episodes are amazing sifi but the meta episodes are gold! 200 is a great episode as well. You have a while to get to that one.
Joe is the voice actor for Homer from the Simpson. RDA guest star in Simpsons too
And thus the peek of clip-shows was born.

To be fair, it'd be a *lot* to accept.
The episode is so good, but I've always felt so much pain when I watch it. This guy damaged his life so much because of this random stone.
That was me!...No that was Homer...oh noes, wait you could be right!
I just love the whole idea that for someone like Jack to have dreams of a normal life is nice. Why complain?
His inner muse?!?!?!?!
Yeah, I think this is one of the best recap episodes. But I wouldn’t go as far as to say it’s the best episode of the series.
HOMER SIMPSON - Dan castellaneta

Citizen Joe's actor is the voice actor for Homer Simpson
That "Daniel is dead..." part was all Homer.
