It's also possibly due to a mechanism in your brain releasing a numbing chemical, that is related to pain and even death: your body numbs your pain for a moment in order to still function during the emergency. During death phases, your body pumps those chemicals through so you don't die in pain. And I think they're what makes people hallucinate and see near death experience: "the white light" so to speak.

I had this very same thing happen. I had to use a rubber mallet and wooden dowel down the barrel to get the carrier to move back. There was a very small piece of brass wedged under the extractor. The case never ejected obviously and when I got it out, had a small hole blown out the back right at the rim. I was using steel mags. It blew the base plate off of the bottom and emptied it on the ground. Once the brass was removed from under the extractor, the gun ran fine. Glad to see you were ok.
@Andrew Yellstrom I think it was more just a happy accident that ar15s typically fail in a (all things considered) relatively safe manner. Down the mag well and out the ejection port, maybe a cracked upper. But you're usually mostly okay after. Compare that to an ak platform or a pistol of any type and you may be missing a hand
@@jaredterorotua2201 pistols tend to fail in the same way - venting down the magwell and/or up and away from the shooter. Slides are designed to stay put even during catastrophic failures. Wood grips can sometimes shatter and throw fragments into a shooters hands, while hot gas and pieces of brass might hit the them if the case fails, but it’s usually fairly minor, especially if they are wearing safety glasses. I’ve had two KelTec PMR-30s and a Walther PK380 “explode” while test firing them with nary a scratch. The one time I had an AK blow up, the sides of the stamped receiver bulged out, but the mag and recoil spring guide/carrier stayed put. I do have a very vivid mental image of a fireball expanding out of the receiver as seen through the little square hole of the top cover as it blew off and hit it me hard enough to cut my forehead. I’ve heard too many stories of people getting injured worse or even near fatal when they don’t check or report small wounds. Mostly from infections. Luckily these days if caught early enough it’s a pill and some rest. Good work!

Speaking from experience, I think you always feel the wound but it's not painful so many people might not think twice about it. They'll feel the pressure and just ignore it like they would if they banged something real bad. But with an explosion in my hands I'd probably investigate every single spot that feels that weird pressure you get from an open wound while under the effects of adrenaline

I keep trying to tell people, there's way more downsides to going .300 blk for suppressed CQB than the "modularity" factor makes up for. Just do and AR-9 with 180-190 grain rounds. The platform will cost you little more than a .300 blk upper but by the time you slow down that .300 blk sufficiently, you get better ballistics from a 9 with the same accuracy and range (i.e. shit past 100 yrds and won't pierce any body armor) Oh yeah, plus you don't have to worry about stuff like this..
Thank god and john armalite for having the foresight to design it to fail safely. I love planned routes of failure like crumple zones and breaker trips. The less fun version of this is planned obsolescence :(

The case never ejected obviously and when I got it out, had a small hole blown out the back right at the rim. I was using steel mags. It blew the base plate off of the bottom and emptied it on the ground. Once the brass was removed from under the extractor, the gun ran fine. Glad to see you were ok.

Is that part of the design as in the actively designed it to that end?

@@jaredterorotua2201 pistols tend to fail in the same way - venting down the magwell and/or up and away from the shooter. Slides are designed to stay put even during catastrophic failures.
