- Antonio Esfandiari does battle once again with the tricky businessman Bill Perkins. The hand starts innocently enough with a standard raise and some callers. However, Perkins springs a big raise on the turn and bombs the river, prompting the 3-time bracelet winner to give a speech. What on earth should he do here?

Doug, one hand omitted from Perkins raise on the turn is the flopped nuts (79s).
Was this on purpose? Could he not have flopped it and slow played?
What are you thoughts on this?
Keep up the great videos Doug!
Thank you and think freely
Phil leak vs Scott seiver aa vs 42 hand?
Who's the top 10 6max pro. ?!! !!!
I've seen fewer angles in a trigonometry book
Corrected title "Esfandiari Angeshoots His Way To A Call"
What’s up Doug Polk, guys here
libertopian 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Y'all must be new here.
Still makes me laugh.
Entertaining the newbs 😄
Everyone already saying it but yo Doug, for real man, why not calling out the horrible angle shoot here by Antonio? Please don't go soft on us.
What was the angle shoot? Curious
@@joshwillett13 when he said "donation" and acted like he was throwing the chips in, then pulled back.
It's debatable if it's a real angle. Players like Ivey used to always do things like cut out the calling chips. Move them around, etc. and look for reactions. This is much less prevalent now as people have learned live tells aren't very reliable mostly.
Personally, it's whatever. I consider an "angle" to be something of ill intent. Something like this, trying to get a reaction, or needling a friend (these guys are all friends and play together often).....don't bother me.
Classic Antonio Angleshoot. Classic.
It's getting ridiculous
For sure Perkins is expressive enough for Antonio to see that he did not want a call with the angleshoot and calls, wish they showed his face when he fake calls, even he was like WTF after he done it. way out of line.
I agree it's bad etiquette but you also shouldn't be playing if you can't keep your composure
Antonio cheats Perkins should be title. piece of shit.
Boski...in the house!
Perkins always doing his part to keep the real pros in cash flow.
cause he will angleshoot you and win
8:47 "10-8...or maybe 10-8" hmm..thats a lot of hands
Alexander Richmond its a easy call. The bluffer not afriad flush on the river (still over bet)if he presenting 79 or set... The only case is 79c that he could be over bet on the turn and the river. Otherwise, all the case is not made sense. Very unconvincing storyline.
Typical Esfandiari, always straddling the line between light angle-shooting and just all-out, no holds barred, tilting, incessable angle-shooting.
Luckily him and Perkins are friends, I definitely would not stand for that shit
It's an angle shoot if he had folded after failing to get the desired tell from the pump fake call. He was always calling just didn't want to payoff such a huge bet with a weak hand.
How do you know he was always calling?
Or maybe A.E. elicited a certain reaction he was looking for in his repeated angleshoot "pump fake calls"
Agree a 100%. Poker After Dark approved angle shoot.
"Donation" *holds the calling chips out*
*goes on to think about it for another minute*
Not cool.
cheating
STFU you moron. Antonio's trying to get a read on his opponent.
It's part of the game. You're literally killing poker.
Really? Why does getting a read off your opponent have no place in poker?
And why is that a problem exactly?
What's wrong with getting a read off your opponent?
Have you ever encountered a player moving his/her calling chips into the middle, and you automatically think "AW YISS, VALUE" and when you show the nuts, they take their chips back and fold?
Doug, thanks for this.
Been too busy with work but your poker video analysis on is definitely one of the best I have ever seen. Looking forward to more in the future and best of luck in whatever business venture you're working on now which hopefully includes cash games online or live.
Hi Doug, Thank you for all of these videos. I watch it a lot, here on UA-cam, on Twitch, trying to learn as much as I can. However, there are all these advice from pros, which hands to open, how to play pre flop generally, how to play post flop, when to bet, book from this guy, book from that guy, Jennifear openning charts and everything seems straight forward. So if you are doing what you are told you should be profitable. But then I see for example Lex Vildhuis opening some crazy hands from early positions or making these weird plays post flop and often ending up busted while generally being profitable. It’s not just him, that is only an example, I see that very often. When I try to implement some of that play I am a “donk”, a “fish”, throwing my chips away and in often I end up busted as well. Or these allin bluffs with garbage hands in late tournament phases (I am talking mostly about online tournaments) when you pray no one is going to call you. When I play my usual game which is a bit tighter (and more by the book in my opinion) I end up deeper in tournaments bur rarely reach the final phase. Usually I end up min cashing or something. What do you think about this? Could you please give me some piece of advice? Sorry for a long comment and thank you. Cheers
Damn. Ok... That was an angle right? The fake out that made Perkins say "wtf!" ... so that means Antonio is the fish to keep happy these days?
Big angle shoot?
Doug - so much respect for your grind, man. All you do is produce value! Blessings bro!
I could probably win some hands too if I angle shot as much as Antonio.
WOW! this was the best poker hands in a while
How do you balance a situation where your hand is either a good hand to bluff raise/barrel with on the turn but not on the river? When you raise the turn with a good hand to raise i.e. 67 no clubs and the river comes a club, your hand is no longer a great hand to bet with on the river (since you want at least one club). And the flipside. If you raised with KJcc and the river bricks out, barreling with a busted flush draw isn't a good idea because you block the missed clubs of your opponent. Which hands are better for double barrelling when you completely miss both the turn and the river?
Perkins looks so uncomfortable after that river bet... the stare looks weak af too
Such good poker analysis in this video. Polk is so strong at poker.
With friends like that, who needs enemies?
If you made that call, you'd be driving a new Jeep!
Haha wtf I legit thought you put Carlos' face in the beginning :D BEEDCONNEEEEEEEEEEE
this game looks softer than... softer than.. something very soft
Goo? Bunny tails? Silk? Mom butts? Soft serve ice cream?
I have two questions:
First: Why no comment about Antonio's light angleshooting?
Second: Would Perkins bet a flush for value after the board pairs? Would he bet trips for value if he was bluffing with a 6 on the turn? Or does he only have full houses in his range, and maybe a nut flush, but not any of the non-nut flushes? (okay, this one is a multi-part question I guess)
Gabriel Rockman depends on betsizing as well I guess. Value bet tight and big or bet all of the flushes with smaller sizing
Gabriel Rockman Perkins can make this type of a play with anything. Trips, all flushes and all full houses are in his range. He's very unpredictable and can make such a thick value bet with any of these hands.
Nice angle Antonio.
lol at the Cyril poster
Where can I watch Poker After Dark?
i think we need to start calling out antonio on this bullshit.. its pretty redic and very unethical..
I think you need to go fuck yourself and get a life
Antonio was trying to get a read on his opponent. He should be applauded.
its a huge angle and ruins the game for whales like perky.. i mean its definitely a cheap shot from a 'pro'..
How does it ruin the game for whales? They enjoy gamesmanship
Whales can't complete on hand analysis, so they enjoy gamesmanship because it helps level the playing field
@@JohnSmith-su3ze STFU, there are ethical limits on what is acceptable. What Antonio was doing here was angle shooting, not "gamesmanship".
@@renx81 Utter bullshit
Tired of cry babies who cant handle gamesmanship in poker
Clearly poker is not the game for you. You are too fragile
Perkin's hand does have good removal though, all the 8's. Therefore putting Antonius in solid top pair territory.
Kc would actually be an advantage on the turn for antonio... one fewer out for club draws, more clean outs to two pair... both effects stronger than simple blocker :)
I love these videos and i feel like i'm learning a TON but there are so many terms being used that i dont quite understand.. i need guide book for all these terms or something.. HELP???
The dance at the end would tilt the shit outta me.
14:43 dat voice crack doe. LUL
Doug, there's one thing about the logic about having a club or not.. on the turn we want to call without a club and fold with a club, but then on this river we don't have hands with a club in them, cant perkins just barrel every time and we now have to fold because we don't have hands with clubs in them as those folded turn? (Besides boats, how can we call without club hands?)
You say to fold K♧Tx on turn but call with no club, but then say to fold this hand with no club on river and call with A♧Ax but that K♧Tx is better on the turn to call but that's getting folded... lol
So we call/raise with T8 and boats...
Some of the logic is conflicting on the turn vs river
Doug send me 10k
ROFL Trane 😂
Doug Polk didn't call out Antonio because he is scared. everyone in the comment section saw the angle shoot but Doug just doesn't even mention it. I think Cryp-Nick clearly sent him a message.
Antonio got the physical tell he needed to make the call when Perkins reacted and said "wtf"
Lol bill .... yep just classic strong stare at him after that river bluff 😂 can’t play against Antonio like that read you like a book.
I think Perkins reaction to the nearly but not quite a call motion made it clear he was bluffing. If you have it you don’t react at all
Sick hand review thanks
hey doug, could you do more 5 hour streams? they rock!
I remember back when Doug Polk used to talk about poker!
Doug is it OK to call 87 suited here on button prefloop?
i know Antonio for a long time, but this hand really made me a fan of him 👏
Didn't realise you still posted to this channel
@10:49 I read contempt from a half smile from Perkins. I know we use math but I'm autistic and this is one scenario where I throw math out the window. Perkins is being ackward by blinking, making eye contact but... he tried to not to let that little smirk out. It's a micro expression and everything else he was doing at the table screams. [*starts staring* "I want to know if you believe my lie." *blinks a lot* "I would be so happy if I got away with this." *Shows contempt half smile* he's not folding I can't smile yet!*] and we all know these actions as poker players could all be fake and the exact opposite but I've never thought twice after picking up a micro expression like that knowing my hand is good. Unless the villain had any history of a good Hollywood or knew I looked for specific scenarios like this I'm almost able to snap call!
@14:52 - The Lotto Dance!
what a douche
Love your channel
Definitely harder to call on the end being that the flush got there
Incredible blink rate there Doug.
Funniest part of video is when polk is telling how Perkins bluff is good becuAse he blocks the 8 and the ace and none of the drawing hands (cuz we all know billy boy is taking this into consideration)
He seems to have all the angles covered...
Wasn’t that an angle shoot at the end?
Why is Esfandiari surprised when he won the hand ffs, if he thought he was beat he would have folded. This guy along with Negreanu are notorious for not folding rivers
At 8:25 Doug mentions KJ of clubs to raise where you "don't have the odds to call, especially multi-way. I'm confused by this, why would it being "especially multi-way" affect the odds? Wouldn't more people be better when you hit?
14:03 the guy not in the hand putting his chips out like he’s calling induced Antonio to make the call.
Looks more like he was retrieving the chip he dropped?
Now that crypto is dead all these crypto UA-camrs are making Poker videos now
Not dead at all.... just going through a pump and dump mode as the wall street boys begin to play it.
Look at how fucking stupid you are. He is a poker player first and had this channel for a long time and just recently created his crypto channel.
pretty sure it was an ironic comment dude
People taking his joke comment seriously... smh.
whatlez people making the same joke thats already used above but said way better then this one.....smh
I saw the preflop action and was like "KTo is a bit odd but otherwise its reasonable"
And then when doug went through it I realized the A8 and 87 werent suited. Yikes
I think if the river wasn't SO board changing and Perkins still blasted it, Antonio could have found a fold. I was like he said, everything changed on the river and he still bet, sort of made no sense unless he had a FH.
Real classy angle
When Doug mentions that KJ of clubs is a potential bluff hand why is it that hnd specifically? Why could it not be KQ of clubs?
Thanks
Love Bill Perkins. He doesn't give a shit about the money and just wants to gamble some of his $55+ million with the big boys. I think the pros get a kick out of him. I remember him and Phil Laak on the Big Game chastising Hellmuth for berating an amateur who'd just won life-changing money. "You have endless trunks of money - he's a school teacher!" Class act.
Antonio as usual with the dirty angleshoot
8:45 "10 8 or 10s or 6s or 8s or 10 8 (again!)" Don't forget 8 10 Doug!!!
Really sick bluff
is that allowed to put the chips almost in the middle and say " donation because i love you" just to get a reaction, and then make the call or fold once you got a better "read" , or is that angleshooting?! I mean, if that is allowed, pretty clever by Antonio, thats probably why he's so good in live poker =)
AudeJavel12 there is no bet line at that table, so it is allowed even if it is scummy
Sick call! But lucky! Perkins could have so many hands in that situation
I found your channel after watching you on crypto. Now I'm hooked. I would rather watch drink beer and watch your channel that sports like NFL/MLB, etc.
why isn't doug including 97 in perkins range?
what is removal?
Esfandiari is very good at reading people. 14:11 it is a f**king angle shooting!
Great call..He knew his opponent, he called him down. I would have folded turn probly
Esfandiari is angle shooting imo
I like the pc explination for Perkins' preflop play. Can we just say he called with a shitty hand
My game has been unbeatable and I got 1099 to show thanks to you Mr Polk! 2 second place finishes at LA-WPT at Commerce. 1 Jack pot and 10 Seat and go 100$ winners! No chop-chop!
Do more new poker after dark hands. Thanks
The greatest poker UA-camr of all time! Never clicked on a video so fast.
Can you make an episode of poker news? Or at least poker variety videos, know you’re busy with other things and crypto currency channel and it’s great, just saying would like to see some variety. Keep up the great work huge fan!!
here we go... upswing gonna take more money from me. :)
I think the overbet hurt perky here, yes ppl do that sometimes 2 think like there bluffing and actually have it so they get called but would you bet that much if it have a flush? He's not raising 20k on turn with a 6. Would he raise 20 k with kj clubs on turn? Possible but unlikely in my opinion. While it's no an easy call I think it's a call...
Turn that Antonio dance into a gif
15:03 IS THIS CYREL MOULEY ????? :DDDDD
I know it’s a somewhat friendly game and I love Antonio, but I really don’t like all the pump faking with the chips before he calls. Sets a bad precedent going forward and someone would be well within their rights to really take issue with it.
Question. When Antonio says "Donation cuz I love u" and kind of half throws out his chips for a read.. is it an angle to say "Yep, I got it" or something.. What do u think? Cuz Antonio is pretending like he's going to call for a reaction .. so is giving him a reaction an angle?
I think this reaction goes a long way cuz esfandiari and perki have a long history and often times when you take a big pot off a "friend" you tend to show a little more sympathy. So if Antonio goes "Donation cuz I love u" and almost throws in his chips, if bill can say it with a straight face like "ya i got it i got it" show a little empathy for taking the pot off his "friend" I think antonio would or should insta muck. Do you think you should do that?
Great call
excessive blinking is a sign of weakness
Sick call
So whose the top 10 sicko? Perkins?
Id likely fold but he shifted very aquadly when he raised, that is an easy tell I learnt from chess
Honestly that was a live read. Perkins was sooooo full of it, and I`m not the type that usually pays attention to this
Perk is never in a Million years overbetting a flush otr which makes His bluffing Range much bigger and the call higher ev
why does it seem like antonio is always bordering the line of angleshooting in every video
Not bordering, crossing...
What a call! I would have called that but im a amateur so myreasoning is wrong even if the conclusion is right. Why can't perkins have 7 9 ?
What's up guys, DougPolkCrypto here, talking about poker for some reason.
I don't understand when you say a certain card blocks someone's hand/holding. Very advanced stuff
It's really not. Very simple concept
i don't like how he fake calls a couple of times pretending to call and then pulling the chips back. That should not be allowed
Amazing read and call but disgusting angle shoot. One really wonders why such a successful player feels he has to resort to such base tactics.
Antonio is a really good playet he knew he was ahead on the turn i mean wtf was he representing with the 2 on the when he reriase
Poor bluff attempt with his river chip entry....snap call
Just a question why exactly would it be better for Antonio to have a King with a spade then a club, because my reasoning would be that a king with a club would be blocking his flush draw bluffs?
That's what Doug said, yes. You want your opponent to be bluffing with a king of clubs, if you're calling on the turn.
