  • Garrett Adelstein is back in another high stakes poker hand, and his timing is impeccable as he picks up pocket Aces on the very last hand of the night. Can he hold and extract max value from his opponent's pocket Kings?

    why do you 4bet with the TT? it seams like a headache on a lot of flops. AA, KK, QQ and AKs in my donkish opinion are value then suited broadway and A5s as bluffs. am i just too tight? Thanks for the great video.

    • @48tho-averysalak39
      @48tho-averysalak39 6 років тому

      aaa aaad - not really its just TT is a hard hand to play out of position against this tough of a field. You're also inviting in the initial raiser to call nearly 100% of his hands and then also even squeeze and put you in a tough spot. Exactly it's a headache on a lot of flops even when you like the flop like 3 3 6 or something you cant just stack off if they button makes you play for it. Well you can but it just leaves you a much easier decision to go 4 bet... snap fold to a 5 bet &then if you get called just play post flop... yeah a flop like AK7 or QJ7 or 678 334 A86... all these flops you can relatively know where you're at and play safe and cautious you know... and obviously if you flop a set you're like never folding... plus its cutoff vs button open & 3 bet 7 handed I think.... where as if this is 9 handed UTG opens.. UTG+ 2 3 bets or something then the dynamic is a little different...
      Just my opinion but yeah 4 betting TT here just gives you the chance to take it down pre and navigate boards a little safer... plus gives you a stronger range advantage people are less likely to try and go bluff crazy & you can get to showdown just as safely where as just flatting pre...
      You also play your hand pretty face up if you cold call the 3 bet... these high stakes players are going to put you on your exact hand like 99, TT, maybe JJ, and like AQs

    • @musatebi486
      @musatebi486 6 років тому

      Agree with aa never 4 betting 99 or tt here if there is not extra information may fold 99 pre and some tt pre against some players. You are not playing 25 50 pokerstars let us not be that balanced to have tt 99 here. Would fold pre a5s also but 4bet a5s makes more sense.

    • @48tho-averysalak39
      @48tho-averysalak39 6 років тому

      Musa Tebi - yeah I agree but in this instant they are playing 25 50 100 lol so that's I think it does matter... but just because you're not playing 25 50 I would play 1/2 and 2/5 and still notice imbalances in players and exploit them.
      But also if you're folding 99, TT from your big blind I feel that's wayyyyy too exploitable and people are just going to be playing super aggressive towards you just because ... but just my opinion

He argued that if you 5-bet you are essentially telegraphing that you have specifically aces. Now he seems to be recommending 5-betting with AA, KK and some other hands.

    • @oyuyuy
      @oyuyuy 6 років тому +2

      DanielSong39 Not true. Since Garys range is primarily bluff catchers, it makes sense to try and rep as many bluffs as possible. The bet sizing impacts the bluff frequency. If anything, a smaller bet sizing signals a less polarized, value heavy range.

    I think Garrett should choose his river sizing based on what hands that he wants to bluff with. River T is a better card for IP player and Garrett shouldn't have a high betting frequency imo. So I feel like a small sizing on the river like 12k-18k is a better play than 30k because it still allows bluffs and might induce more mistakes compared to a 30k bet. What's your take, Doug?

    • @Ihave10billionsubs
      @Ihave10billionsubs 6 років тому +1

      Ryan - no I don't think bluff shoving (I assume you mean Gary on the river?) is a viable play. Garrett already had put in about 70% of his stack at that point, and odds are in his favor to make a call if Gary bluffs. Almost certainly a loss if he bluff shoves.

    Doug are you leaving us? Your not putting out so many vids now. You deserve every success for the help you have given us, but we miss you! Personally, i find your analysis so insightful; borderline genius. Your thinking resonates with the 3 volume set of Winning Poker one hand at a time (lynch, apestyles, pearljammer) . It was like listening to the audio version of those books. Randomly to add, i signed up for upswing but i think Fees took your comment of just doing it once to the extreme. I dont understand half of what he's saying and a lot of the time he's making notes for a future videos while i wait in real time and he's or burping or erring or something while im watching. It's a little bit disappointing, as i dont take anything from those vids, i just have to skip. Maybe he should do a practice before the real one, as im sure he has a huge amount to offer to us eager to listen! At the end of the day, i owe you a lot from your free vids you already put out, and i hope you stick around. You have to realise its a journey for us, and you need to repeat the mantra many times before it sticks, so please continue to be patient. For example, i listened to your casts for 2 months before i suddenly grasped the concept of a blocker. Previously I listened to what i understood (ignoring strange concepts/ideas), and only after more investigation suddenly took stock of what you were saying. Same goes for other concepts. You are entertaining so we eagerly listen without understanding what your saying for a long time. Does that make sense. :)

    If Garret never has KK here for value (not sure?) Then Gary would rather call with QQ/JJ than he would with KK right since he blocks QJ? KdKx seems like a hand he could fold?
