A woman who wrote a book about a character that had a horrible husband and hated him deeply.....who only wrote that book because she had a nice husband who paid for it to be published. Not sure what the meaning of that is.
😂😂😂
The Inklings were a group of Oxford writers that included Dorothy Sayers, J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, Owen Barfield, and others
I love the idea of them reading this tome to each other and breaking up.
*Reads 'Baby in a Blender' and 'Satan's Yeast Infection'* "So anyway, Irene Iddesleigh is the worst book ever written..."
We’ve come a long way since the 1890’s?
My globes of glare, stuffed with sorrow, can't believe this
As an aspiring author that is basically my worst nightmare 😅 imagine pouring your heart and soul into a novel just to have it named the worst book ever written and Mark Twain himself rips it to shreds
If it’s any consolation, McKittrick Ros didn’t let any of that bad press get her down.
She basically wrote a twenty page subtweet in the preface of her book Delina Delaney where she claimed that a critic who ragged on Irene Iddesleigh was secretly in love with her, calling him a “clay crab of corruption”.
Furthermore, she was outspoken in thinking that her critics were simply too stupid to appreciate her work, and thinks that it was a big conspiracy to stop her from revealing the corruption of the ruling class by way of her writing.
I was a little worried at first that the story of this author would end up a tragedy, like Jim Theis of Eye of Argon infamy.
It’s never fun when the overblown negative reaction to a first attempt at writing completely stops an author from writing ever again. This is doubly so when that author is a woman, given the historic and contemporary stigma against women who write.
But no, to my relief, not only did McKittrick Ros go on to write many more times, but reacted to the criticism of her writing in incredibly amusing, and somewhat delusional, fashion.
The Inklings made a game of who could go the longest reading it out loud without laughing so it's the 1800s Eye of Argon
The contemporary versions of this book are basically anything written by E.L James
Love that kind of video! Maybe next time do it like with the extreme horror books were you have multiple in one video and pick out just the worst stuff :)
Mark Twain seem quite the critic back then. He also wrote an entire essay titled "Fenimore Cooper's Literary Offenses". 😂
Weirdly enough, I kind of want to read this now - lol! It's like a messed up, poorly done, Jane Eyre and the Bertha situation (or Wide Sargasso Sea, I guess). I'm intrigued...
As a Bret Easton Ellis fanboy I would recommend new millennium boyz
Would be interesting to translate to chinese and back.
Thanks for reading this book so we don't have to 🙂
Unrelated but thanks for recommending Ronald Malfi! I read The Night Parade and loved it. I have some other books you talked about, and am looking forward to them. A few are extreme, like Cows, and require couragto start. I read Santasploitation in Dec. but don't think my husband is ready for it yet, lol!
Vivian
Ahhh me too! I’m about to finish “Black Mouth” and I HIGHLY recommend it 😀
Neffex!!! amazing song choice!
You effort is wasted on me. I'd never have read that book anyway, anyhow.
This seems like a fascinating relic of its time, but if it's been getting panned since that time then I doubt I'll read it. There is a part of me intrigued, tho...
Why didn't she just married Oscar in the first place? Was it cause he was poor?
I could listen to you talk about books all day.
The Inklings group included JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis
Oh, interesting!
Only the brave can tread this path to read the worst books
Can't wait for the movie version!
Hi Anda! Your synopsis/summary of this book is most likely more enjoyable than the actual book. On a side note, have you ever read James Herbert? Recently read a couple of his books, and they're pretty good. Recommend.
This reminds me of Olivie Blake, worst author for me for her pretentious writing style. But as you stated this is all subjective!
Amanda McKittrick is giving some real pick me vibes.
Thank you for the heads up of this book, your review was hilarious. This book is on my must read list. The author sounds like a female incel , lol.
wonderful how you combine torture and laughter.
It is always a problem to try to apply logic where no logic exists. Sounds like you could be drawn to this book to read it for humour and end up warping your mind. Best wishes on the next read.
Twilight really isn’t that bad. 🙄
I'll have to give it a read one day.
Neither is Mein Kampf or The DaVinci Code.
The original pick me
book has some facts daaaamn
someone did turn on that fucking lamp.
Please read Credence by Penelope Douglas or The Wild by K. Webster! 😭😂
Oh no! Are they bad, too?
@@AndaKent they’re kind of viral dark romance books for all the wrong reasons lol
50 Shades Of Grey was bad couldn't get past the 1st chapter !
Anda is ultra QT
Irene should have called the book "I'm not like other girls" because this is the weirdest "pick me" book I've ever heard of.
ty for your sacrifice 🫡🫡🫡
Just added you on Goodreads.
