Outerbike was an absolute blast. It's one of my favorite weekends of the year. I'm thrilled they went ahead and held it this year, even though vendor participation was lower than in years past. It's an important event and i sure benefitted from it.
Yes, I ride full sus bikes from time to time. There are some trails and rides where a full sus is the better option. I'm not going to pretend that hardtails are always the best option for every given trail. In my consultation service, a lot of people are surprised when i suggest that a full suspension might be the better choice for them and their trails, despite my love for hardtails. I still ride hardtails 99% of the time, but i do ride full sus every now and then. I actually think it makes me a better reviewer and it helps to know where a hardtail shines and where it doesn't.
All that said, my true love is hardtails and the focus of this channel will remain on hardtails.
Thanks for the kind words Steve and the really solid reviews. It's always a pleasure having you & Tess at our events and we're glad it worked out for this edition of Moab. Really we're just thrilled to get the whole Outerbike family back together and to show off our backyard to so many new riders. Enjoy the rest of this fall weather and hope to see you guys down in AZ sometime!
You missed an opportunity to lock out the shocks and review these as hardtails, haha
Dangit! Missed opportunity for sure. Maybe the sworks enduro locked out is the perfect hardtail hiding in plain sight.
I’m so excited to get my specialized epic evo in November
It's a RAD bike
I know it’s hard tails only but I do think your missing out not giving opinions on the full squish bikes. You have an unbelievable knowledge of bikes and not sharing the opinions of the full suspension bikes you rode seems a shame. Not everyone is so serious about hard tails that they would be offended with the odd review of a full suspension, as you have a unique critique that would carry through to all bikes. I have an old hard tail stump jumper and a full squish orbea but I watch your reviews for the incite into Mtb. Love the reviews
Thanks for the vote of confidence and the kind words. I've given this topic a lot of thought. I share my opinions on full squish via Patreon.
In my experience, when a channel tries to be everything to everyone, it ends up being very little for anyone and it loses focus. UA-cam doesn't know how to suggest it to others, and viewers don't know what to expect. Diluting the channel's focus will only hurt me in the long run, even though it'd be a ton of fun. Maybe one day I'll start a full squish party, but I'm having a blast with hardtails right now
New Channel name: short tail party. Love 100-120mm bikes.
If i could clone myself I'd have 2-3 more channels. That'd be fun.
Hardtail Party becoming Fullsquish Party :D
Would love to go to something like that someday. Would be amazing to get a ride in on some dream rigs. My local bike shop had a Pivot demo day 2 months ago, but it was a total waste. Normally, demo days are held at one of the local trails. Specialized Trek and Cannondale have all done it that way in years past with mountain bikes. This time it was in the parking lot. They had no action all day, who wants to ride a Pivot Firebird in a parking lot?
Wow, that's pretty sad. Would they let you take it to the trails?
Nope, I asked. Closest trail is a 20 minute drive.
Lmao that's basically no different than a normal shop parking lot test. You think they could at least put out some little kickers or at least some obstacles so you can get a feel.
man i would be scared to be havin to much fun and damage a bike
Ugh, that enduro hub would drive me absolutely NUTS... Just smashed my rear wheel up after breaking a spoke.... I think I'm going onyx and probably never looking back.
Had fun at that event in 2019. Probably won't make it to another one. Would like to ride more of Moab. That event was my first, and only, time riding in Moab. Had a lot of fun on technical trails and want to try more there.
I should have driven down there.... I want to ride that Epic Evo so badly....
You'd love it. It's never going to be your ideal bike for Jacobs ladder, but it's an absolute rocket. Perfect Lambert park bike.
Thanks for sprucing up my lunch break today.
This looks like a great event. I can't wait until evergreen mountain bike fest returns. It's outerbike with less bikes at Duthie Hill Mountain Bike Park.
Evergreen is a fantastic org.
I miss that festival so much!
Every time Stumpjumper Evo & think maybe I should get one or bike like it that can fit plus tires. Lael Wilcox dominates with a Comp version of this, but then again she great with any bike you give her.
Lael rides a sj Evo? the Evo is a BIG bike. Tons of travel. Most people won't have trails that justify it.
Curious to know what you thought of the Fezzari Delano Peak? I demoed one out of their HQ in Utah and loved it. Position on the bike, stack, and reach were all perfect for me.
Glad you liked it. It's my favorite bike in their lineup.
That looks like an 'Epic' event. Were Santa Cruz and Ibis there?
Ibis was there, but I've already ridden all their bikes. Santa Cruz and yeti were not there.
When will you review the 2022 Motobecane Fantom 27.5 + Pro? Looks like a sweet rig at a decent price.
No, I don't have any intention of reviewing it. I don't feel like those Motobecanes are serious mountain bikes.
I want to go here one day! And Steve my middle child showed up on Monday after 5-1/2 months of waiting! 😂 just glad it’s finally here. Still waiting on my i9 wheels. They said thanksgiving 🤷♂️
In your opinion, Moab or Sedona? I live in northern AZ and haven't ever been able to ride either one.
you need to ride both. Since you live in northern az, it's a no-brainer which one you should hit first.
This is awesome to see! Was going to go to outerbike bentonville 2020 but we know what happened. Maybe next year it’ll be scaled up a little more. Keep it up, love the content
All this video did is make me wish my bike was fixed already. Waiting for a full rebuild from cane creek and a new dropper post to come in. Thankfully these weren't hard to get stuff, sadly I wasn't able to get a part for my old dropper post since it's been discontinued years ago.
I just traded my beloved pivot switchblade for a 2020 sj evo pro! Pretty burley and aggressive, but enjoying it so far
I’m happy with my evo too. Good choice!👊🙌👍
what year was your switchblade?
@@hardtailparty 2021, great bike! It’s the best “one bike for everything” I’ve owned, but with the hardtail in my garage and a growing love for riding park, I figured I’d give the evo a try
Awesome review of the event. Looks like a fun day. What are you using to get such great audio while you’re riding?
This is just the GoPro audio. I have a few editing tricks i use to clean it up, but the new GoPro are pretty good.
@@hardtailparty sounds great. Love your commentary while you’re riding!
Looks like an epic weekend Steve! Definitely a bucket list trip.
Lock em out ;)
Great video. I would love to hear your thoughts on AXS.
In my opinion it's the best shifting available. However, it's not a game-changer to me. It's maybe 5% better than xx1 eagle. It's definitely not 6x better than the Microsoft 10 speed I use in my bikes. I can think of much better ways to spend money on a bike build. That said, if you want the best of the best and you have the budget and you don't mind charging batteries once or twice a month, AXS is fantastic.
If you have any questions on AXS or Reverb dropper. Had them for, almost, a year. I'm not a bike expert, but if there is anything I can answer for you, I will.
Cool footage! Thanks for bringing us to the event, Steve!
Super curious about your thoughts on the Delano peak. I just sold my abajo peak, which was a great first full suspension bike to learn on, I'll be at a bit heavy and not the best pedaling platform.
I agree. I’ve been looking at these bikes for a while. Just to bad there 32-40 weeks out
Big Lonely is a great trail. Probably my favorite at Navajo Rocks. What build was the Delano Peak and what did you think of it?
Indeed, it's a great trail. The fezzari packs a lot of punch for it's price it wasn't my favorite bike at the show, but i was glad to be able to ride one finally. .
I enjoy the whole 17 mile loop at Navajo rocks . I did on a budget hardtail . Lots of stops to get some pics .
@@stevencole7331 Fantastic trail.
Dang I was in Moab and missed this
There's another one in the spring
Great recap of an awesome weekend!
Great place. Last weekend was my first time in Moab but it will not be my last!
It's indeed a magical place.
I love my SJ EVO. It has 3 HTA adjustment settings and a SWAT box for storage. Alloy 2022 version has a SWAT box too. It’s a fun bike.
It's a special one for sure. First specialized fs I've enjoyed in a long time.
What? The 2022 alloy version has SWAT?! I'm so jealous!
@@ryanmiskin Pretty rad. Pricing is good too.
Hey, Steve. So, how different are geo numbers for a full sus than for a ht? Should it be longer or shorter?
Typically I want a FS to be a little longer (reach) and a little steeper (ha). But it's hard to directly compare. Because goals are different with each bike.
It depends. I prefer a shorter reach on FS. I'll do a video about this one day.
Will you have videos coming out on your opinion on the bikes you demoed? Looks like a mtbers disney world.
MTB disney world is a great way to describe it. I have so much fun at these events, they do a top notch job.
Sorry, I'm not going to release review videos on each bike I rode sinxe they're full sus. I try to ride as many full sus models as i can to aid in my bike consultation service, but i want to keep the focus of this channel on hardtails. I don't want to spread myself too thin. I definitely took notes though so i could chat about these bikes with my bike consult patrons.
@@GF-cb8rr Steve's wife has a bike channel? WHAAAAAA??
@@JoshTaylor Check out @dustybetty
Where is the link to her review of the stump jumper?
Coming soon. I got my edit out before she did.
@@hardtailparty Thanks for the reply, looking forward to her video
