    UPDATE 1: On the NW759, you can avoid the "HOLY BALLS!" experience and just use the arrow buttons to adjust the volume. Special thanks to you guys for the heads up!
    UPDATE 2: Added eBay links as some of the monitors have better pricing there.

      DSLR Video Shooter please answer: Does the Viltrox DC-70 HD have these lines so you can check if everything is in the frame with cinematic bars?
      Because I often do a 2,35:1 or 2,55:1 aspect ratio in post.

    A brightness comparison in daylight is essential in any field monitor test. At the very least a Nit count comparison or side by side max brightness test.

    I went through a couple of monitors before I finally broke down and bought the SmallHD 502 and I haven't looked back. The SmallHD is a miracle on set, being able to view a LUT while shooting LOG has given me total confidence when exposing and shaping light.
    The Software, accessories, and build quality cannot be matched.

    Great overview! I bought the Feelworld F7 a few months back and it has been one of my best gear purchases (Although the auto power on is insanely annoying). Wish I would have known about the Bestview S7 before buying it as it seems to address a lot of the issues I have with the Feelworld F7. I'm also pretty jealous of the Viltrox DC-70 build quality and that super fast flip out sun shade. Feelworld F7 sun shade is kind of annoying and there's nothing to protect the screen when you put it away like with the Viltrox.
    One thing to note is that I think most if not ALL of these have terrible cold shoe mounts. My monitor fell off 4-5 times during a recent shoot in India. Got back to the US and immediately replaced it with a Manfrotto 492LCD micro ball head that is SOLID.
    And to make a long comment longer, the GH4 and GH5 have terrible latency over HDMI no matter what monitor you use. I tried to use my GH4 to send to a projector for a live event so people in the back could see better and the video was so delayed compared to the live audio over the speaker system that it was making it look like a bad kung-fu movie hahaha.

      Doesn't the Panasonic G7 have an HDMI out?

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox 7 років тому +2

      It does, but it can't output via HDMI and record internally at the same time - the two use different color spaces - so if you wanna use a monitor with it, it has to be a recorder, too!

    • @simon_patterson
      @simon_patterson 7 років тому

    • @The8BitDuke
      @The8BitDuke 7 років тому

      EposVox that's wild! I know on the a6300, of outputting HDMI and recording internally, the liveview goes out, not the monitor. Some cameras have the option to toggle this, like FS7 I think - it was set to turn off the HDMI monitor and not the live view by default I think. Crazy if there isn't such a setting on the G7!

    If you do these again in the future, I would recommend filming a slate with a time code display (or a tablet / with a timecode app) so you can see just how much of a delay there actually is.
    Great video. Too bad about the delay on these. Things like racking focus or keeping focus on a moving talent is gonna be hard. :/

    Thanks for the time, money and effort you put into making this video, Caleb! Some questions: 1. If I am primarily getting a monitor like these primarily for drone use, how much of an issue is the lag problem? 2. Have you tried the Elvid SkyVision 7" On-Camera & Aerial Imaging LCD Monitor? 3. On the specs for it, the brightness isn't measured in NIT, but rather in cd/m². How does that compare to NIT (better or worse)? Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer these. - Christopher (The American Photographer Down in Brazil).

    Thanks for the great video! I bought the the Viltrox DC-70 HD and found that focus peaking does not work on it. I came back to watch the video again and I see that your copy doesn't do focus peaking either (7:02). There is a problem with the histogram as well, never showing 75% white. Also, The 2A power supply they sell for the monitor doesn't put out enough current to drive the monitor at all (boots, then crashes). Fortunately, the monitor can be powered via the USB "upgrade" port. The sun shade is great, though, as well as the brightness/color/contrast/resolution. It looks great, but the extra features are not only hard to get at vie the crappy wheel-button interface, but some of them just don't work.

    Love the video, I'm in the market for a monitor right now and after watching this video I went searching for "low latency monitors" but haven't had much luck. Are there a few models I should look into? (I watched another video by a UA-camr using an expensive atomos and it STILL had a bunch of hefty latency so I'm pretty lost). If not I'll just get the best view but being that I'm getting into cinematography I feel like that level of latency may trip me up.

    Fantastic really cool I love your videos. I think I might have to wait a little bit before I purchased to many equipment so that it will work all together. Thank you for making it understandable

    Thanks for this video, it's ideal for me because I just bought a black magic production 4K and a good monitor is my next buy. I live in Vietnam so my options are limited to what they have here, so I'm going to get the Feelworld F7 - the other model you said was better isn't available here nor is the F760. It's basically the last thing I need to buy before we can start shooting....

    If you ever decide to do an update to this video (including newer monitors like Feelworld's A737 and T7, among others), what would be great is if you also have companion videos for each monitor to show how each of the features work. I've found that many of the Feelworld monitors will not zoom in on a 4k image, which kind of defeats the purpose of having a 4k capable monitor. Also of interest is how "clicky" or silent the buttons are, which can be a consideration when using these to record interviews and weddings where you want to make as little noise as possible. And as has been mentioned before, with the monitors that don't list brightness, doing a side-by-side comparison with monitors of known brightness would be very helpful. Thanks!

    HI. great video. May I ask how these compare the SmallHD 5" monitor. Is it worth spending the extra do you think. Thanks in advance

    Hey Caleb great video! Quick question though I bought the bestview s7 and the color is awful compared to yours. Any tips or tweaks for using with gh5?

    great review as usual !
    as other pointed out... it could be great if you review the Lilliput A7S... i'm in the process to buy it, and didn't find a good side by side comparison... it looks great...
    So, can you compare A7s lilliput monitor vs Bestview s7 monitor please ?
    Thanks !

    Great video. I had someone loan me a Feelworld F7 with a GH5 at a festival, didn't even use the F7 except as a test. I was impressed by the brightness and clarity for a $200 monitor. I own a 702 and 502 but will likely pick up the S7 now as an extra directors monitor. Do you think the S7 and F7 have the same video panel within?

    Tks for the awesome reviews.. but i was more interested in the Velbon fluid head.. hope you can compare that to other leading fluid heads like the manfrotto's ... i am in dire need of a good and cheap fluid head.

    Hey Caleb, thank you for putting out such great and informative content for us all!!
    Question, I know I’m late to the game but I have just picked up a GH4 to make my main filming camera and will use my G7 mainly on my zhiyun crane V2.
    I’ve watched your videos so I can start to build a rig around the GH4 and am wondering what do you think would be the best 5” monitor for my GH4 rig? Quality over cost...?
    Thanks in advance!!
    Adam

    I think you are the first person on youtube to review the DC-70 HD. I think I'm going to buy it. I returned the FW760 because it felt so flimsy and plasticy and the buttons are too loud. The DC-70 HD with it's aluminum build looks a lot sturdier. Great video, I appreciate you taking the time to compare all these camera monitors 👍

      so did you buy the DC-70HD? I just ordered it and also noticed that this is the only vid on youtube to even mention it. I shoot with a Nikon. Does your monitor work well??

    Great video! So for someone like myself that does corporate and celebrity sitdown interviews and I have the Sony A7R II, which would be best between the Feelworld 760 and the Bestview. I really only care mostly about critical focus, 4k signal and dont worry about latency issues.

    I have the Neewer NW759. Had the speaker issue but after searching I found the volume setting. I find it to be a solid monitor.

    so glad somebody actually talks about latency, it's a deal breaker trying to get sharp focus with moving objects
