- I've been asked to say a few words to the truckers in Ottawa. I've given that some careful consideration. You protesters have accomplished an awful lot already. The conservative leadership has crumbled. Erin O'Toole has been replaced by someone who is giving a fair bit of voice to your concerns.
All the people you represent have a voice in the house of commons. You have four provinces that have moved quite precipitously in the direction that the protest was hoping for. They are starting to lift mask mandates on something approximating as reasonable a timeline as might be expected under the circumstances. You're now faced with a difficult choice: what are your criteria for satisfaction.
You need to determine that so that you can negotiate with the necessary people. You're also faced with another danger at the moment, now that which is that the political process bent in the direction that you've insisted upon - rightly, in my estimation. This, more and more of you who are most reasonable are going to pack up and leave, or decide that this is done sometime over the next week or so (or a couple of weeks: that's obviously up to you) --, but there'll be a remnant that's much more committed in some sense to more extreme goals. That's going to be something very difficult to manage.
I'd like to commend all of you for your diligence and work -- on accomplishing what you have accomplished under trying conditions -- and also for keeping your heads in a way that's been a model for the entire world. You've been able to remain peaceful. You haven't taken the bait. You haven't responded with violence to quite remarkable denigration and provocation. That's a sign of tremendous discipline and care. It's going to get more difficult to maintain as this goes along. So I hope that you're all able to allow a sufficient victory to be sufficient, to move forward without greed -- to be grateful for the effect that you've already had, and the support you've received, to move forward to a normative peace and the re-establishment of our country's economy and our psychological and social wellbeing. That's pretty much all I have to say at this point. Thank you.

The fear is that if we ( Canadians ) step back or stand down they'll just undo everything that has been accomplished.
Then we rise again and again and again…with love and peace.
Then you protest again, but take the victory. The ball is now in trudous court. If he attempts drastic measures afterwards, he looks even worse. The goal is to make yourself seem reasonable, as you have done, and him seem childish

Same kind of protest was done in India by the farmers against the draconian farm laws, this is happening all across the world, people going against their governments to fight for their freedom and a common enemy i.e. the elite Government

They should just get vaccinated and move on, it is just misinformation about the vaccines that caused this to ever be an issue.
The similar has happened in India in the state of Tamil Nadu. Peta and the then Government tried to ban a sport that represents the Tamil culture, without the influence of any political party all the students later every one came together to protest in a peaceful way. Police threatened and beat them up badly, and with media trying to avoid what's going on everyone stood together regardless of their religion, it gave a sense of unity that I have never experienced before, a sense of love for my people and was able to empathize with my people like never before. It is one of the unforgettable memory in my life. Those who support this convoy cherish this moment these are rare moments in history.

Your right, but these protest will not achieve that. It is a small victory. For the larger fight we need at least a general strike. And at this point there are not nearly enough people willing.
Be careful to be more precise with your words. When you say 'free', a more moderate person may think, 'free from covid mandates', whereas a more extremist's view might be ' free from authority', and explode the whole movement out of context. that's what JP means by a sufficient victory. Know when your criterias are met, so it doesn't evolve into unnecessary and destructive chaos.

Never again is impossible. That's the thing about freedom is it's always one push away from being removed. Any rule you set is only as good as societies will to enforce it. That will needs to be renewed every single generation.
I've been saying for two weeks- Those Canadian truck drivers are showing us how it's done. They won't be broken, and they won't be divided. It is truly inspirational to watch. I'm hoping we down here in the States are taking notes for use in the battles yet to come.

It is difficult to express the respect and admiration I have for the Canadian truckers. The cause couldn't be more worthy and they couldn't have gone about it any better. Dignified, peaceful and resilient all the way through. They have given the government tyrants and the corrupt scum in the media no ammunition at all to take them down. I'm a HGV driver in England and they have made me feel a great deal of pride, as I'm sure is the case for truckers all around the world. If any of the Canadian truckers read this, thank you, and God bless you all - the sane world is with you.

It is nice that some provinces have dropped some restrictions but this was started by the truckers over federal concerns. The movement morphed into an EVERYONE movement. How can we walk away and leave truckers to take the loss when they were the main reason provinces caved in. If the provincial restrictions remained and truckers had won and then walked away leaving the rest of the people without hope we would not like being abandoned. We are all for one and one for all.
The end of the battle does not mean the end of the war. Peterson is not saying quit. He's saying that you don't just keep fighting the same battle forever. You evaluate your progress and move on to the next mission, which calls for changing your approach.

I am originally from Latvia but been living in Scotland for last 6 years. It's actually scary how easily people are willing to give up their freedoms and lable other people who have different point of view as Nazis and danger to society.
History is literally starting to repeat itself, people are being forcefully shut down from protesting and expressing their opinion because it doesn't match the narrative. I would think this kind of oppression and tyranny belongs to the past, when Germany was ruled by Nazis and Latvia was under Communist rule... But it is 2022... I suppose people have enjoyed freedom for too long in West?
One of those demands should be, “we have the right and freedom to protest, nobody should be charged with aiding the protest, as that’s not illegal.”

If the protests stop now, the regime will not take their demands seriously. It's only a partial victory. It's far from over. Now that the Trudeau Regime has declared martial law, the stakes are even higher and a sustained protest has only become more necessary and urgent. Rather than going home with only the hope of a promise for a half a loaf, the truckers and other citizens should come to Ottawa in ever greater numbers and stand strong.

To a large extent I think the Windsor blockade has been most effective, because it was the one which they’ve acted the most upon, and had a direct financial impact. The Ottawa protest gives some nice clips for social media to change public sentiment, but the government needs to know that the citizens can directly affect them

Honestly, we all need to stand strong even in the "face of" getting what we want. Do not forget "2 weeks to flatten the curve" - none of us should back down until all mandates are gone, and there is legislation to stop this happening to us ever again.

When you say stay the course. Do you mean truckers should continue to wreck local economies? I agree with JP, they have a victory, claim it and go home. Some protesters are getting greedy with their demands as stated in the video and are going to forever tarnish this event. Some are asking for outrageous policy changes that are laughable. They had really should of stuck to their industry. Thatb would be like doctors refusing to work until they get proper benefits then refusing to work until climate change is solved. I hope they think this through

Staying peaceful only works for so long. It only works if you have reasonable people. They are dealing with evil. You cannot negotiate with evil. You cannot peacefully put them in their place. That's just the way it is. The peace that we've enjoyed for years cost plenty of blood.
The federal mandates NEED to go. Same with all the provincial ones. We NEED something in place that will assure us that they won’t be able to turn on a dime and reignite this whole, terrible wildfire of unhinged, unbridled and unscientific mandates, all over again.
And that's precisely what's going to happen if people go home. There will be some new variant with another Hollywoodesque name to strike fear into the hearts of the ignorant.
We need to know that our Government will never be able to do something like this again.

... and for that we need people like Peterson, Penesse and whoever is willing to teach that people they have a mind, an ethic and a will of their own and should never be outsourced to anyone. This is one of the many outcomes of outsourcing parenting duties to schools and public employees, friendship to therapists and the media. We HAVE something in it's place and that is our mind and our heart and our ability to talk to one another and choosing that over being talked at, slogans and convenience. I don't think the solution to this problem can or ought to be political.
We've seen that thoughtfulness, prudence, critical thinking, and peaceful righteousness are not the domain of the intellectuals! The Canadian Truckers have behaved in an admirable manner without name-calling and/or violence -- A lesson in civility that those in government should learn! The truckers have one goal, and that is the restoration of their God-given rights! The world demands the same! Their stilly determination has inspired the world!

It cannot stop until all mandates are gone. All employees who lost their jobs get them back with pay for lost time. And laws rewritten to prevent this from ever happening again for any reason.
This is very easy to say. Not so easy if they actually start removal by force. Then it can become a whole other problem and the momentum shifts to serious problems for all involved.

The criteria for satisfaction are opening the Canadian borders, removing vaccinated mandates, and letting us travel free. I didn't see my family aboard for over two years. That is not a provincial matter; it is a federal, as you know.

As far I know there are vax mandates for these truckers on the US side, so even if Canadian mandates are lifted, they can't enter the US.

I'd say a good goal would be to stay until _all_ mandates are lifted in every province. But personally I would like to see mandates and medical coercion made explicitly illegal.
As I've heard people say, "I don't think the government would dare take back the freedoms of people again, the people would rise up!". I said the same thing last summer in Manitoba when all freedoms were given back... 2 weeks later full lockdown and not a peep from the people... They like being controlled, and I do not.

From what I've seen, the provinces that are changing things are only suspending things like vaccine passport. Suspending means they will bring it back whenever they feel like it.

Yes, but the main point of the protest is to end travel restrictions which is a Federal mandate. The provinces have no jurisdiction over leaving the country or even get ng in a plane to travel without ng one's own province. That is the reason they are protesting. Federal mandates.

My concerns include what is a sufficient level to attain before there is a real victory. It was announced earlier that the Prime Minister is seeking a state of emergency. With such a person as a leader, an accommodation seems unlikely.
Trudeau and the general Canadian media have striven to paint anyone involved as mischaracterizations ranging from Nazi, to racist, to transphobe, rather than address the issues that have formed the protest. Addressing the issue does not automatically guarantee that the protesters' every whim will be fulfilled, but ignoring the issue in its entirity and instead trying to label all involved with non-true statements shows the dishonesty of those who have taken hold of our land and our lives.

I love Dr. Peterson and respect him and I have learned so much from him. But. I feel the truckers should not give an inch. They should add to their demands that everyone who has been arrested be released and have no consequences. And that no one who has participated will have any consequences. They should not be lured out by false or partial victory
HE was asked for opinion and gave it. He's not saying 'this is what you must do'. He's offering opinion, and based on history and human nature he's right, which is where I think he's coming from. He's clearly not part of orgainsing and clearly doesn't have an all encompassing knowledge on the inside organisers. He said to consider what you think is a win. Not, you have won now stop. Comments like this is why he was obviously why he needed to be prompted to comment. The alternative is the media saying he's "calling for revolution" if he isn't on the fence about it where it might stop. Do what you have to do to achieve your goals. Just know, there is too far that will cause a pendulum effect of support.

For eg: one part of what he is saying, define your victory maybe it's to go back to pre covid times you have people's support for that. But when that is done, and you keep adding goals like some other comments suggest like releasing prisoners or getting PM to resign then at some point you'll lose the common support and become a nuisance.

What is difficult is that while the truckers took a hit in lost income, polyticians got their paycheck and only had to wait them out. If push came to shove, the military is called out, putting citizen against citizen.

Moving in the direction is far greater then remaining in the same place. Question what have YOU done. As in YOU personally? How much financial support have you given? Do you work directly with your local government if so what’s your name and position? He said it was a reasonable given the timeline and precipitous expectations. He gave us suggestion that they should outline their exact demands so that they can possibly even have a leg to stand on rather than leaving it open ended as you are. With defeatist mentality that nothing has been accomplished. He commended them for accomplishing what they have under the current conditions.
If you can’t tell by remaining they’re going to be putting their own families in lives at risk. As well as continuing to prevent much needed supplies that are currently already extremely low. Which only helps the opposition. It only hurts the truckers, their families and the innocent people around. If you’re curious what and who should be grateful it’s that they should be grateful that they made any change at all under the conditions. They could’ve easily sent in the National Guard Canada immediately to disperse them all while giving them nothing.
The only people that would be hurt by continuing this are innocent people, families & those simply trying to get through their day to day lives. It would HELP them with the great re set. NOT hurt that motive. All while the ones that remain at the top are not effected on any level. I LOVE LOVE LOVE you keyboard warriors that yammer on about how it “should” be done. What their demands “should” be. While I can GUARANTEE you do nothing. Especially under a default with the most ridiculous name of C note. How about you organize your own protest and you can run in as you please.
