My chicken breast catfish bait recipe. It's easy to get and easy to make with ingredients most people already have. Give it a try sometime! (Update: I've since discovered that it's really not necessary for such large pieces. I've now caught up to 66 pound blue cats with pieces no bigger than a silver dollar.)

Excellent recipe.. Chiken strawberry jello olive oil.. Great combinations. Inch and a half or two.. Into a zip lock.. Pawesome.
It's a weird combo, but the catfish seem to like it. :)
I save and use oil packed from sardines instead of expensive olive oil. Has good fish scent to boot.

Didn't do so well today, but I did catch a couple of medium size ones. That's better than getting skunked. The wind was horrible though. Made me work real hard. I'm retired, why did it have to do that to me? I don't wanna work hard anymore!😂

I'll give that a try. I have caught a lot of channel cats on tilapia fillets. I keep an eye out for some in the clearance section in the meat department.

It works for some catfish. I don't know how well it would work for other kinds of fish.

Thank you. Since making this video, I've realized it's totally unnecessary to use such large pieces. Now days I'm cutting them into about silver dollar size and it's been working great. Those 38 and 66 pounders I caught Dec 3rd bit little silver dollar size pieces.

Hello, how have you been? Great recipe. The reason why jello might be better than kool-aid is that gelatin is made from crushed/pulverized dried bones and skin. I am not sure if that is the reason but that is what was told to me. Take Care and Keep Exploring The Outdoors.

Nice demo. I haven't noticed the chicken lose the color but I use it all pretty much in a couple days. I still haven't tried your recipe but hopefully soon. I wish we had blue cats to try this on. Use a bigger knife and you don't have to do so much cutting. 👍

Some day I'll figure out where the gizzard shad like to hang out and that'll help me not have to spend the money on the chicken breast, but for now, yep, it's working for me.

I am using way too small of bait for sure. Good information. I don't have any Blue cats but I think we have channel Catfish in our lake. Good info CCF. Fish on!
Thank you. I'd say the medium size pieces I cut at first would be best for channel cats unless you're getting your bait stolen a lot by the small ones. Then you can size down some if you want to stop feeding the bait robbers.

I won't question ya because I see the fish you catch..... I've never heard of adding garlic powder but I know it works.....
It sure does SK. I told BIG C what I added to my chicken and he tried it. Said he felt like he caught more fish when he tried it my way. Not sure if he is still using it now or not.

The jello sucks out the moisture from the chicken. It makes it stay on the hook better. I've actually caught my PB blue catfish on strawberry jello chicken 👌

Adding gelatin to chicken for catfish bait and why it does work,
Gelatin is a translucent, colorless, flavorless food ingredient, derived from collagen taken from animal body parts. It is brittle when dry and gummy when moist. It may also be referred to as hydrolyzed collagen, collagen hydrolysate, gelatine hydrolysate, hydrolyzed gelatine, and collagen peptides after it has undergone hydrolysis.
When you add gelatin to chicken it makes the outside of the chicken get a hard coating causing it to stay on the hook longer, but more importantly it adds amino acids to the chicken, if you compare the amino acid profile of gelatin to the amino acid profile of a bluegill you will notice that the percentages of amino acids may be higher or lower but they do have the same amino acids... when adding gelatin to chicken you're not only making it hold on the hook but you're trying to boost the amino acid profile to match the same levels or get them higher than what the catfish are currently feeding on...
It's not the cherry flavor or the red color or the fact it hold on the hook better... it's all about amino acids
Amino acids present in gelatin are variable, due to varying sources and batches, but are approximately
Glycine 21%
Proline 12%
Hydroxyproline 12%
Glutamic acid 10%
Alanine 9%
Arginine 8%
Aspartic acid 6%

Chicken breast is one of my favorite baits.use it all the time.
It's been very productive for me too. This video's been getting a lot of attention since Deiter Melhorn started touting chicken as a viable catfish bait. It's funny, I've been using it for 3 years now and all the sudden it's a hot item.😂

I’m wondering about the cost to reward ratio...chicken is very expensive in Canada...not sure about in the Carolina’s.

It's not too bad here and you have to factor in time saved trying to catch fresh bait at the lake instead of fishing for your target species. I have to drive 2 hours each way up to Kerr Lake, so a little extra expense for the bait is worth the extra time I get to spend fishing for me.

Amen brother. Whatever works. So far this has been working for me. Multiple times Russ and I have done experiments with different baits and it never fails, they ignore the cut perch or bluegill and go for the chicken when we bait up 1/2 with cut fish and 1/2 with chicken breast. I never would've believed it if we hadn't tried it ourselves.

Yeah, that stuff stains bad. Jello mix doesn't seem to have that problem. I'm glad I gave it a try.

It seems to be that way most of the time. Sometimes they only want small pieces, but it's easy to cut them into smaller pieces on the water if that's what they seem to be biting.
