  • How to make salted liver fish bait, remember this is my first time to try this. I wanted to find a way to fish with liver without the mess and a way that it would stay on my hook. My target fish is catfish, and I can't to try this bait out. Hope you enjoy the video, let me know if you have suggestions how to make this bait a better way.

I've actually salted and sun dried livers and gizzards. It worked but it made the liver so tough that it took sa good deal of force to get it on the hook.

Try doubling up your containers with holes drilled for moisture to escape the bottom of the top one with a lid on… keeps critters out and I find it works well!

Good video I my self have only done this a few times. I'm no expert just wanted to help out if I'm able too. It is a little messier at the start but this should get you more then a month before going bad.. so drain your blood. Lay foil down or wax paper on cooking sheet , flat pan anything like that something you can lay the livers on with a slight tilt BUT ya you can use your racks it will still work just lay something down on top of racks along with at bottom to catch run off if any remaining blood will run off while starting the cure process. Go ahead and put some salt on cooking sheet / racks its self before putting livers down and then you can salt top of liver like u did in video. Day 2 = flip livers over and salt again Day 3 = You will then have that med rare like you had. If u want flip over again but if not Then put them in the rubber maid containers just like you did at the start of your video. Add your jello mix along with more salt, garlic and more salt mix, ect. This way your liver will already 70 - 80 percent the way you want it before you cover it top and bottom with fresh salt in plastic containers or ziploc bags. I also think I could be wrong you want too eather keep the liver in the fridge or out after being curred. So if you want them in fridge you would want to put livers in a cooler with ice packs or ice. Even being in the salt if livers get cold then hot could reduce the life spand??

You can buy just plain salt and it's cheaper than pickling salt. You can add garlic and other flavors in your salt. I've used soy or other dried sauces.

We had set ours up out of reach from the animals. Sun dried livers are the way to go. If you want to you can freeze the portions that you want to keep for later and you could even vacuum seal to keep even longer.

Salt and Borax is also a good way to cure chicken liver. Dries it out really nice

Always just did the garlic, but friends have luck with the grape/cherry unsweetened koolaide(not jello).
When I lived in KCMo a baitshop had little spools of cotton string, quarter a spool, 6 for a dollar. Slightly thicker than sewing thread. Easily breakable with your fingers. Put your liver on the treble, 8-10 wraps of the string, don't have to tie but just tuck and break off. No problem flinging it off. Another friend made womens nylon wrapped liver but I didn't have the time nor patience for that.

All you need to do is 12-24 hours in the salt and then sun dry to finish.

Use sewing thread. Weave your liver on the hook then take sewing thead and wrap around it it will eliminate the problem off liver falling off

It worked ok, super easy to use and no mess which I liked. Shad and cut bait are so good and hard to beat. If you don't have cut bait then I would definitely use it, I want to try some salted shrimp. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching

I’m a Texas boy too but sometimes you just can’t find those baits so that look like a easy solution for when you can’t find baits
