  • Thing's didn't go as planned but we were able to catch some fish!
In this video I made a very special catfish bait to try on the big river! I brought a special guest with me on this adventure. I wanted to drift the bait just below the dam however it was spilling so we did not get to do that. We did finally catch some fish when we started to anchor fish. The Strawberry Kool Aid Chicken Breast bait did better than I thought it would!

I've caught huge catfish on chicken and Koolaid. I normally use breast meat and cut them to about nugget size. And one pack of Koolaid per breast is the amount that I mix in. It's crazy how much they like it. It must be like clams or mussels to them.

The longer you leave it the better it gets. Absorbs more Kool aid coloring and makes them kinda cured so they stay on hook better.

Jell-O works better because it's made from skin, tendons, ligaments, and bones from cows and pigs. Let it soak at least 24 hours in the chicken but 48 hours is ideal. It soaks completely into the chicken and firms it up where it'll never come off the hook unless you take it off. Been using it for about 8 years now and have always had great results. It's my secondary bait to using bream. Also a little bit of vanilla extract or some type of alcohol is supposed to help a lot too but I've never added that.

@@TNRVG I use strawberry Jell-O but I know people that use different kinds. I just stick with what's been working for me. Years back my friend was laughing at me but I caught 4 and he was at 0 so he asked for a piece and caught a 12lb flathead. He's been using it ever since lol

My brother Dave, the fish magician as soon as he puts his pole in the water he’s got a bite. He used to catch lizards and scorpions too in elementary school, when he wasn’t fishing.

Caught a nice 15 lb blue cat last night off cherry kool-aid and garlic powdered chicken breast. Caught 7 channels and bullheads mixed in too but they were all in the 2-5 lb range. The blue almost spooled me, that was a REALLY fun fight on the Bush river for me in the Chesapeake bay.

This camera seemed to do great to me. Which one is it? I have been considering getting one or two of the small gopro clones off Amazon since reviews have been decent and probably 1/8th the price. I am a recent subscriber and wonder what areas and rivers you fish. I am in SE TN myself so fish the Hiwasee and Tennessee rivers. If you want to catch lots of channel cats set up in a slough just off the main channel and throw out 50 jugs per person baited with chicken liver and circle hooks. We have caught hundreds 50 to 70 channel cats that way from dusk to maybe 4 hrs afterwards. If you are going for blue cats, you are going the right route staying in the main channels with several rods, but need to go with skipjack, shad, bluegill, white bass as cut baits or whatever is available in your area. The case for skipjack and white bass is strong in this area. Best of luck to you

Great video Cap'n! I bought the Hero 8 last year on a black friday online sale, it's pretty good, I still sucks at editing video and the few videos I tried to make were terrible, maybe I'm just an OCD weirdo though idk. I'm glad to hear you prefer it it over the 9, it makes me a little more confident in what I got. I'm gonna try that chicken breast and kool-aid tomorrow by the way. Recently moved to Buchanan Dam, Texas so if you are ever in this area look me up man, I'd love to fish with ya! Great video once again!

That actually looks like a VERY dangerous place to fish because of the cliffs and rocks. I’ve seen rockslides before cause massive tsunamis. If you get 1 good rockslide on that steep riverbank and you could easily get a 15’ wave coming at ya.

I found this in one of the catfishing groups and saved it to show people
Adding gelatin to chicken for catfish bait and why it does work,
Gelatin is a translucent, colorless, flavorless food ingredient, derived from collagen taken from animal body parts. It is brittle when dry and gummy when moist. It may also be referred to as hydrolyzed collagen, collagen hydrolysate, gelatine hydrolysate, hydrolyzed gelatine, and collagen peptides after it has undergone hydrolysis.
When you add gelatin to chicken it makes the outside of the chicken get a hard coating causing it to stay on the hook longer, but more importantly it adds amino acids to the chicken, if you compare the amino acid profile of gelatin to the amino acid profile of a bluegill you will notice that the percentages of amino acids may be higher or lower but they do have the same amino acids... when adding gelatin to chicken you're not only making it hold on the hook but you're trying to boost the amino acid profile to match the same levels or get them higher than what the catfish are currently feeding on...
It's not the cherry flavor or the red color or the fact it hold on the hook better... it's all about amino acids
Amino acids present in gelatin are variable, due to varying sources and batches, but are approximately
    Glycine 21%
    Proline 12%
    Hydroxyproline 12%
    Glutamic acid 10%
    Alanine 9%
    Arginine 8%
    Aspartic acid 6%

This does NOT work! Don't put strawberry jello or any jello in your chicken bait. Just use it plain or, add a hint of garlic for the stink.
I tried this recipe 4* and out of the 4 batches I caught a whole 0 catfish.
Did the same test with plain chicken breast, and some with a bit of garlic which yielded better results.

Jello has amino acids similar to Bluegill. It’s an animal product. It’s no surprise it would spice up the bait. I may try it on frozen Skipjack to see if it makes Flatheads eat it.
