the only thing I got out of this, and will probably ever use, was that I can enter any number and get exactly half by just putting "/2" at the end of the number. Great tutorial by the way, I'm sure if I knew how to use After Effects well enough, I would find this useful :)
For those of you who don't want to spend money on shockwaves but still want to follow this tutorial www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/shockwaves/ will teach you how to do your own. Then if you want to know where Bakers is learning all his tricks, go to the video co-pilot tutorial page and you'll find about 150 tutorials that will teach you in a good, deep and yet humoristic way how to use after effect. The original tutorials for this one can be found at www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/3d_light_casting/ I enjoyed looking at this creepy thing but didn't learn anything new that would not have been taught by Andrew Kramer on the video copilot website. That being said it is a nice short animation that nicely gathers a set of tricks.
Cedric Fangeat Do you know how to explain the second part of the vid that he left out? Where he places the energy ball on the footage. I see he has a "TUTORIAL TAB" but he never explain the set up.
Bernie Wright I am not sure what else you want to know as I think he does a pretty good job at explain how to place the energy ball, how to force the camera to auto-orient so that it actually fakes the 3D... He shows how to use displacement map and some other tricks to enhance the effect. I guess you should try that out, it does take a lot of experimentation to get it right, I am sure if you persevere you'll get there!
no because than everyone will copy it, the reason he does these is so people can learn how to use after effects and give people ideas of different things, not to copy
Hey man, great video. Thanks for the tutorial. May I ask what your thoughts would be on using this method for making a dark matter being, like replacing a person with a flowing dark matter warping the space around it. Would this method work with just simple tracking? Or how would you go about it? Great channel, thanks for your time!
Hey man how did you create the null object and did you link the creepy thing to the tracked null object please i'm stuck i cant make it into a 3d layer the creepy thing.
Is there any difference between using the circle's alpha matte and changing the mask's mode to Subtract and simply using it as an overlay to hide the edges?
Hi! Is there a way to make the dark energyspiral upwards? Or to make it shape like a mushroom cloud? You know with the eventual fade out at the end and the while rising from the ground?
hey baker nice tutorial, can you maybe give a link of the scene with your desk because it might be cool to practice with this scene at first and to motion track the dark energy footage on it
When I precompose the layers I make...I cant find the previous compositions like "Lines". What do I do wrong? For example, when you wanted to make lines thickness 7, you had them all there.
Ok, so as a total newb to AE, and after watching this whole tut (and previous dark energy video), I just want to know, at what point is the energy ball mapped to the motion of the actual shot? So do you work on creating the energy ball, then track the shot afterwards? I'm assuming (in my ignorance, remember) that if you were to preview this effects shot as-is, the camera would move around but the ball wouldn't.
BakersTuts Awesome, I will watch those. I saw you mention boujou elsewhere too but all these plug-in names are so weird, I wasn't sure what I was reading. :P
you can always use the old "track then parent it to a null object" but Boujou is far more reliable. if you're starting off i recommend that you use the tracking inside of after effects.
It's too difficult and I didn't know you'd need a plugin until I'd spent 2 hours trying to get that far! I've downloaded and successfully installed shockwave several times but there's no sign of it on my computer anywhere!! I found online advice that suggested I make sure my Firefox has enabled the ad on (which it has) and still nothing! Advoce gratefully received!!
hey superb tutorial.... i'm sort of new to particles and stuff,...and want a mist type of or somthing that you created behind my SUBJECT. eg. in your video , behind your hand mirror. is that possible? kindly help. willl be grateful and thank you for your generosity in creating this tutorial.
BakersTuts when you got to the warping part it reminded me of the Black Hole/Wormhole in Interstellar... if you've seen that. . ..also thought you should try re-creating that XD even tho in the behind the scenes they said they had equations and shit to make it realistic as possible... or something like that...
What is your mac and Camera type and setup? Im on a late 2009 mac with 4Gbs of ram a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and using my phones 4k function and 1080 and I cant so much as make a video title.
I'm having an issue, can someone please help me out. I place audio into my composition and audio alone. I press the space bar to preview it. It previews fine, but when I add in markers via: the numpad * it creates the marker then lags the audio for like 3-4 seconds then resumes playing a few seconds after that. How can I avoid this?
When people copy other peoples tutorials and spit them out as their own, they never grasp what's being done and why. At 7:15 he states to make a new solid and to put it under your white smoke "to make it black". Rather than do a black solid, simply choose the color you want and make your solid that color. Fill is another easy option, but not making the solid black is #1, if you don't want black energy or lines.
Hello Baker. I have tried to replicate your dark energy three times already. When I render it, it only shows a black screen when I replay it. What am I doing wrong? I have followed your tutorial each time making sure that the values are correct and that the same things are happening as you are doing them. Suggestions?
+Gloria Young I just checked, you can add a white solid under the fractal smoke and black solid :) Becouse I dont understand what +BakerTuts mean in reply about toggling on alpha channel D:
I don't get it the layer isn't acting the same way it does on this tutorial after I turn it into a 3D layer. Is it because of those null auto things that were already there in the tutorial comp? I can just move the layer with the energy up down left right and scale it. What am I missing?
I've created the creepy dark thing, but I don't know how to integrate this to the 3D video, I don't get too much your videos of boujou. The thing is, how to track a video if there's no element in moving around? There's just a desk and camera movements but no objects. Help please!!
AE doesn't let me import the video copilot shockwave videos (.mov), did you have to change the codec or did it just magically work for you? AE says that the file type is not supported so i'm questioning why video copilot sold me files with non-AE-compatible codecs... :/
so after i made the one youve shown i copied that file in an attempt to make a new but change the energy to a red colour. so i went through to all the precomposed stuff and made them red but when in creepy energy comp they are all still black. Anyone help me pls?
yo baker, i have a question but not about this tutorial. everytime i try to make key frames out of a song, it makes them but when i click on the layer it disappears. is there any way you could help me out with that? BakersTuts
I got a new problem tho. WHen I render It only makes one part of the video show. Nothing is visible after I untoggle show transparency... how do I make everything transparent so I can render it?
hey baker i really liket it and it worked just fine, but if i turn it to a 3D layer i can't choose Multiplay anymore and the backround stays white... pls help :)

the displacement doesn't quite work with my project. when i alter "max vertical displacement" the whole comp starts displacing but not just the area around the creepy energy. could you please help here?
BakersTuts i chose "displacement map" under displacement map layer. but i just saw in your video that at 11:23 when you change the comp to "TUTORIAL" there's a file called "camera_1_shape2". what is that file/ where does it come from? because we later need to copy and pre compose this one.
I paused, disabled, and watched both ads. Thank you man
Thank you sir. Every bit helps.
