Rest assured, I regret starting One Piece because now I can't think of anything else and it's sorta kinda taking over my life 😂 Title is slightly click-bait, but let's just say I'd have more money in the bank if I didn't start this series, so the title is kinda true 🙈
It never fails to excite me to re-experience one of my favourite childhood memories through the eyes of another person. I could listen to this for hours. ❤
I highly recommend reading by arc instead of by saga both because of length and each arc having it's own self-contained story and themes on top of the larger themes and saga progression. Maybe do a saga review at the end of each one.
Good shout! I wanted to see if there was any interest at all on One Piece on my channel first, but it seems to be going okay so far, so I'm sure I'll end up changing to ARC reviews, rather than whole sagas at once (then do a saga wrap-up at the end like you suggest).
@@GavinReadsItAll It's also better for you if switch it up and do arc reviews because later on sagas became really long. Later sagas might only have 2-3 arcs but those arcs are all longer then 100 chapters.
I have a few suggestions to help you enhance your experience 1: don’t skip the cover story’s. Those are so fun and also tell a story within the world. 2: watch key moments from the manga in the anime. The voice acting is awesome and it will enhance your experience. 3: Pay attention. Even little throw away lines or interactions can come back in the future. The foreshadowing is insane in this series. This is my favorite series in fiction. Enjoy the journey and welcome aboard Nakama!
I like how most people don't really like Buggy ( at first ), but Oda freaking loves him! If you do continue reading one piece, you are sure to see him again... for better or for worse
Oda did too good of a job with introducing Buggy as basically the anti-Luffy, which is why everyone dislikes him at first. In the first few episodes Luffy is portrayed as a good guy that helps people, while Buggy is presented as a cruel tyrant that destroys lives for fun. Where Luffy just goes with the flow wherever life takes him, Buggy is shown as calculating. Where Luffy fights upfront with the occasional low blow, Buggy is all about backstabbing and fighting dirty. It's only when people get to later parts of the story that they get to see Luffy and Buggy as actual characters, not just caricatures of good/evil.
30:30 the reason why Capt Kuro faked his death and acted as a butler was because he was sick of being a pirate and was looking for an out to be able to live his life in peace not being hunted down by the Marines. His servitude under Kaya's family was a stunt to gain rapport and good feelings from the townspeople to further aid his cover as Klahadore and also to plot to gain Kaya's riches to retire wealthy. Also unbeknownst to his (former)crew after he got the money, he was also planning to "cut them off" (ie. Kill them) and tie up loose ends so no one would know who he really was. As an arc, Syrup village ranks low even for me but because of this people tend to miss out on the brilliance of Kuro's scheming. If it wasn't for some meddling kids, Kuro's plot would've succeeded and he would retire in peace wealthy, be well respected by the community and the Marines would be none the wiser as they all think he's dead.
As a person who took the plunge and got caught up about 2 years ago. I am here for more of this!! Hearing others first time is the closest I can get to that amazing feeling I had going through it the first time. Its amazing
This is amazing! One of my favorite booktubers is reading One Piece when I've started too! I even started a manga club for it, and we just finished the East Blue Saga as well. I loved listening to another persons take on everything that happened, and I gotta say, your comments made me realize I connect a lot with Nami in ways I couldn't put into words initially. I also struggle with thinking I have to do everything on my own and asking for help is rather difficult for me. Seeing Nami growing a bit past that is truly inspiring ;w;
Ahh you're reading it now too? And I love that you started a manga club for it. I totally get what you mean re: the relatability to Nami. Glad my video could help you see some of those connections 😊 thanks for watching!
Also something most people fails to notice is that Nami asked help from Genzo and as a result he got hurt, that made her very scared of watching more people die or get hurt as a result.
This is cool! I wish you a entertaining and amazing journey through One Piece. And yes, it's actually Zoro and your pronunciation of it seems fine to me. We don't actually know why the official translation says "Zolo", but here are 2 speculations. Japan doesn't really differentiate between "L" and "R" and/ or the name "Zorro" is already a licensed name for a swordman comic or something.
It's a spanish character called "El Zorro" and means the Fox, the first spanish "vigilante" in a sense altough Oda could use the name and wanted to for paying tribute to the character he realized japanese readers would have a tough time with pronunciation so he changed it
I hope you’ll continue to like Usopp, he’s my absolute favourite and a huge comfort character for me! I feel like I’m the only one who really loved his introduction arc 😅
I can see how much he's trying to become brave and I love that, I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy his journey and progression as the series goes on. I find him very interesting and loved his backstory 😊
I love Ussop because in a world of Sanjis, Zoros and Lufffys with amazing strength for an ordinary Guy like him to face the same challenges makes him the bravest one because as we know bravery is not the lack of fear but to fear and still face it
Dude, I'm glad you like this. However, I think you're missing things as you read. I know that it's a comic, but it has many subtle details. For example: the reason Zeff gets super invested in Sanji is due to Sanji's unapologetic quest for All Blue. Zeff himself couldn't bring homself to announce this as a dream of his because we see his crew laughing at Sanji when he says it. Zeff sees a child who is doing what he can't and wants his dream to live on through Sanji.
Almost done watching the full video, just wanted to say I appreciate how you are literally taking this and giving us fresh thoughts right after reading each volume in this video. Been apart of the straw hat crew since 2005 and I'm so excited everytime I find someone honestly enjoying the series. Welcome Nakama, it's the adventure of a lifetime
There's like... super box sets that have like 20 volumes per set. They're not the cheapest option as they hold the individual volumes. But it would be a good way to get a butt load of the books in one shipment. There's currently 4 sets that covers the first 90 volumes. I can't wait to see you cover more of this series! It's a wild ride!
Watching Nami in tears ask Luffy to help her... always will break y heart into a thousand pieces. That was the moment for me to bind myself to the mast of this ship and never leave. This manga has some amazing character moments, and I love it.
oh man! I saw your goosebumps video earlier this year, loved it, and now you're reacting to one of my favourite stories of all time! and you're friends with merphy?! today is filled with awesome surprises I hope you enjoy the story, I'm excited to watch your videos as you get through it!
I always seem to be so negative with Goosebumps even though I love it, so I hope with One Piece I'm generally more positive. After the first saga of OP though, I think there's no question I'm going to have the time of my life. Thanks for watching!
Welcome to the journey Gavin! 😂 Now that you're on, there's no getting off bc OP only gets better from here. It still amazes me how Oda has managed to make a story so compelling that even now 1000 chapters in its still SO GOOD. It was so much fun watching you discover this story and fall in love with our crew ❤️ loved hearing all your thoughts and I cannot wait to see your Alabasta reviews and reactions! Btw if you're looking for more manga recs I also think you'd enjoy Spy x Family, Merphy also loves that series and it's another fun found family story. (Also both adult main characters are hotties 🔥🤤)
Oooo thank you for the recommendation. I'm just happy I can now watch all the One Piece videos (well on East Blue saga for now, but more after I read more) and join in on all the OP conversations that I feel bad for missing out on.
@@GavinReadsItAll I'm excited for you, too! The next arc is the one I read in high school, it's very good. I hope you like political intrigue in stories~
@@kirikat9365 political intrigue is hit and miss for me, but I am always open to it when it's done in an intriguing way, and I have every faith One Piece will do it 💪
Love it that you started One Piece!! I love this series and if you liked this arc then I think you'll love all the other ones too.😁❤️ Oda is just a genius One Piece has it all humor, heart tearing moments, great world building, good characters even good side characters and great character development. I love all the straw hat crew and even some other characters so much.❤️ And I'm so happy you bonded with them too.😁 Also dont look up to much One Piece stuff please because of spoilers. Can't wait to see what you think about the other Arcs too.😁 You pronounce Sanji with the a from another and not a from sand. And Usopp is oesop not uusop hope you know what I mean. 😅 If you watch some episodes of the anime you'll know what I mean. 😊
I’m going to avoid things online about One Piece now, I don’t want anything to affect my enjoyment, cause AAAHHH I genuinely think I feel an obsession coming on 😂 and thank you on the pronunciation corrections, I need to give the anime a try
One Piece is my favorite anime of all time & I'm so glad you started the manga!! I caught up to one piece 2 years ago so watching this video really put a smile on my face! I can't wait until your next video😁! The arcs get better and better!
Another booktuber begins the One Piece journey always fun to see. Welcome Gavin awesome you love the characters already. Arlong Park when the series hooked me, happy you liked it. Have fun only get to read it for the first time once enjoy One Piece at your own pace no need to rush
I'd always seen One Piece around and never even thought twice about it until you started reading it. I decided to take the plunge and at least try the first volume a couple weeks ago and now I'm obsessed. I just finished the East Blue Saga so I'm happy to have your videos to watch again now that I know everything!
Welcome to the family! Enjoy the journey, 1000 chapters are daunting but it goes by super fast! It's actually not enough lol And it's awesome to see the characters we love before all their current development
I'm envious of ppl who experience the series for the first time. I want to un-read OP so that I can do a fully blind experience of it again. Looking forward to your reviews of the series. Welcome onboard and buckle up, it's a journey of a lifetime ;) Btw, I think it's better to read and review arc by arc because volumes in manga don't cover much story compared to books so it might hurt the proper flow of the story if you do it volume by volume.
Great point, I’m more tempted to do arc by arc now. And yay thank you for the welcome, I can’t wait to dive into more one piece and talk more about it 🥰
Oh gavin my heart. So happy right now. This is my favorite anime and manga. I promise you if you keep going beyond this it will be more then you imagined. Oda is brilliant. He set up so many clues and it connects to different things later on. You'll never even see it early on. But your gonna be so shocked later on. Skypia was my least favorite arc. But, again when you reach the time skip omg... 😁 i can't wait for you to see how much luffy and his crew grows.
He’s already so hooked and there are still so many of One Piece’s major mysteries that have yet to be teased. I really want to know what he thinks of the Skypeia Arc when he gets there🎉 Its one of my favorites because of the lore.
Baratie is usually easily considered the 2nd best East Blue arc. I always cry to Sanji,s backstory so I was kinda sad to see you not be touched by it & give it such a low rating. It's definitely an unpopular opinion but it's refreshing for sure. Both for Zoro/Mihawk moment & Sanji's backstory. Also important thing to note is that Luffy put his biggest treasure on Nami's hand. The thing most important to him, he entrusted to her. BTW volumes are just compilations of weekly chapters & have nothing to do with story arcs & how they're presented since it's a weekly series. So you should def rate it by arcs. That's the intended way.
always happy to see another person jumping into this series and loving it. Enjoy the ride my friend. Edit: also seriously stay away from the wiki, it is so hard to avoid spoilers when browsing it.
25:55 Just a little detail here, about the Marine hypnotized to believe he had captured Captain Kuro. He had his armed truly messed up, and his jaw broken. Remind you of someone with prosthesis in both arm and jaw? Perhaps Captain Morgan from volume 1?
I'm so freaking excited to see you embark on this journey, I'm certain everyone is saying that One Piece is going to get better but this is 100% true. I'm looking forward to see your future saga videos! And definitely would recommend reading more shounen like Hunter x Hunter or Fullmetal Alchemist I would definitely say both have brilliant characters who are very distinct and as you mentioned you enjoyed the world building of One Piece and Hunter x Hunter has decent world building as well!
Adding both of those mangas to my list, I’m getting so many amazing recommendations and it’s making me want to get all the manga immediately haha, but I’ll check those out!
I love this so much gavin 🥺🥺 I adore one piece and you’re my favourite UA-camr so this is the most perfect video I could have asked for. Thank you for all the effort you put into your videos
so manga has successfully infiltrated booktubers all around the globe. Great news! but fr, I love people witnessing this medium for the first time and when the prejudices shatter. Not that you went in w/ a negative mindset, but I'm glad you got surprised as much as you were! last thing: having this much of an attachement after the east blue saga, you'll be in for a fun ride! just avoid spoilers at all costs!! edit: the way you film yourself between the volumes to give your take w/o spoilering yourself is a joy to watch! please keep this up, great job mate!
Welcome to the fandom!! It's always nice seeing what others enjoyed more or less in a series that I absolutely adore. I was kind of surprised that you didn't rank the Baratie arc higher. It's one of my favourites and it's generally pretty high up in most people's rankings. But I guess if you don't connect with so many things in it, it's no wonder 🤔 I hope it fares better upon reread or if you decide to also watch the anime. I hope you will keep enjoying the series. I look forward hearing your opinions on it, preferably on each arc so you could be more detailed, perhaps... Thank you for the video! Keep up the good work!
Glad someone else found this legendary story, hope you enjoy your journey as much as you can, you're in for an epic adventure. It's pronounced Ue (as in blUE)sop, as uso means lie in japanese, I also think you should focus on the covers of each chapter, One piece has this very unique method where each cover tells a part of a story happening outside of the main story, as for example in the chapters you've read, there''s the Buggy cover story which shows all about how he got his crew and body back and met alvida and all that stuff, just a heads up because cover stories always come back around to the main story and I think it's an incredible piece of worldbuilding that keeps the world moving even if the characters we're following aren't in it.
@@GavinReadsItAll Also, I assume you noticed the SBS corner, after some chapters there’s a page where Oda answers questions from fans, lots of them are horny or funny fans and Oda running with it lol, but there some great tidbits about the story so you should give them a look from time to time.
I sadly only found your video a week after it came out, but immediately subscribed! I love the way you're reviewing the series as a read-along, since I don't think I've ever seen someone tackle a manga series in that way before. I know it's common on booktube, but it really feels like a fresh and creative way to tackle this series! I don't want to say too much for fear of spoilers, but East Blue is basically the equivalent of the Shire, and the world will just keep getting bigger and more bizarre!
Thank you so much, and love the comparison of “east blue Saga” being like the Shire and the world will only expand from here, love that!! I’m so hyped!!
Im so happy youre embarking on this adventure! Its one of my fav worlds to be in, and continues to add and add and add. I want it to end and never end at the same time 😅. Since i cant erase and reread, ive really be enjoying these read alongs! Thank you for creating this series :))) Btw if youre not ready to commit to the monetary cost of 100+volumes, i suggest getting a shonen jump/viz media subscription. Its like 2.99 a month, and you get the whole series digitally. Otherwise, the boxsets are a good deal too for physical copies.
I... may have bought every volume on eBay from a seller who was selling them all at once 🙈 it wasn't cheap, but I thought it was decently priced considering haha, soooo I am definitely in this for the long haul now 😂
@@GavinReadsItAll Haha i love your commitment to this!! I promise you can rest assured, there will be no buyers remorse AND the reread value is extremely high
I had to watch that first video ! i'm always to see a new person discovering and falling in love with One Piece. As an old one piece fan i cannot erased my memories and discover one peice again, seeing someone new discovering it make me feel that again, i'm definitively joining your journey through one piece. One Piece is a well writted story where the autor let somes things open to readers interpretations. There's a lot of things like that and one of them is Gin's death. Oda only show gin and don krieg's crew on that boat going but no one know if they died on that tiny boat or if they're still alive. For me gin is dead. Also one piece is full of symbolic, i say one because it's not that spoiling but evrytime a whale apear in the manga, the one piece is mentionned, there's a lot of symbolic like that that i don't want to spoil you but these have maybe a meaning that we will know one day or another. One Piece is full a references, mythology, song, artist, literature... Reading one peice is a journey, rereading one piece to hunt these things is another. I'm late but welcome to that boat.
The beauty of One Piece is not complete without its goofiness, bizarreness, and weirdness. So glad I stumbled upon your channel and even more that you're enjoying that you'd continue the journey with this masterful piece! I am part of the LGBTQIA+ community as well and have been wanting the gays to get into it too because Oda, the author, just does not disappoint when it comes to representation. I'm beyond stoked to see your future reviews. Also, yes there are a bunch of One Piece games out there that you would absolutely enjoy and we'll definitely be watching you play them. Although personally, I prefer you to be caught up first before playing as it might spoil you with the future happenings/characters. Spoiler-wise, it would also be nice if you have moderators who can look up things for you in the wiki or delete UA-cam comments that (un)intentionally spoils.
I'm so excited that you've gotten into One Piece. It's something I've grown up with and I always appreciate when people can still get into it later. One of the really fun things you can do as you go along is there are a lot of character designs that are based on famous people, and I wonder how many you will catch.
Love this exploration of One Piece. I'm on volume 13 and quite enjoying it! Started the anime with my wife and that's quite enjoyable as well! (Though PLEASE watch the subs. At least early on. The English dub of Luffy is just... let's just say it fails to capture the character in my mind. And that's me being nice about it.)
couldn't disagree more about the English dub. unless you're talking about the 4 kids dub maybe I don't really remember that one anymore. I think the voice for luffy fits perfectly in the dub
so i waited to watch your One Piece videos because I was starting to read the series and didnt want spoilers, but i am now on volume 18 so i feel like i can FINALLY start watching these videos!!! i cant wait to go on this journey *with you* 😂 💜💜💜
Oda do see our feelings as musical instruments he can play as he see fit so yeah, this story will make you feel a lot all the way to the current chapter. The thing about volumes is that they arent how the story is structured but compilations of chapters and that is why you have arcs ending 2-3 chapters into the volume and then the next starting right away. The best way to review/read is by arc since you get a more complete story although later some arcs are massive and may need to be divided but the community can help with good stoping points
I burst out laughing when you whipped out DFI at the beginning since it was such was 360 from the One Piece content I expected, but I knew it would be a good video if you enjoyed DFI 😂 Welcome aboard the crew's journey to finding One Piece! It was really refresh to hear the perspective of someone who isn't a regular manga reader reviewing the series. The story only gets better from here, but arcs will also get longer as things come together to form a larger picture. So much more laughter, tears, and eye widening moments lie ahead, hope you enjoy the ride!! ✊
I'm ready for this! So excited to see your journey with OP. Yup, you got it right, it's pronounced Zoro. I know you said you hate clowns, but trust me, you'll love Buggy! Just a question of when. hehehe
I love how attached you are to the characters this early in the story, there is much more where that came from, i don't think you're ready my good sir.
About the structure of the volumes. One Piece is a _weekly_ series, which means it's released chapter by chapter, week by week. (Completely sane and not at all suicidal release schedule by the way.) Then once there are enough chapters to make up a volume, a tankobon book is compiled. The most recent volume to be released in Japan is 103, which ends on chapter 1046, but the most recent _chapter_ is 1062. Vol 104 is in the works, and will probably contain up to like... 1056 or 1057 or so. Each volume has around 10-11 chapters - older ones tended to be about 9-10, I think 12 is the highest any volume has had. Oda has some input on how many chapters a volume will contain, but still has to work within some restrictions. Like, if a volume would chapter count -wise normally conclude on 1056, but 1057 would be a really good chapter to end a volume on, it may get that extra chapter added in. But if it's 1059 or 1060 that'd be a good one to end on, that may be out of his control, pushing for too many chapters in one volume. Similarly, can't exactly cut down a book to 5-6 chapters for a good end point, audience and therefore publisher won't be too happy about that. And there's only so much Oda can be expected to do to pace his chapters in ways that would fit this tankobon pace, the week-by-week pace is what he primarily has to work with. So we get weird chapter distributions between volumes. Oda may also have had less control over the distribution of chapters earlier on in publication, before the series really took off. Not-9 chapter counts by volume 12 were only volume like... 9? having 10, and volume 1 having 8 (but the first chapter is double length, so it's effectively 9 chapters). Can't say for sure though, this is just speculation.
I found your channel through the Amari discussion on Merphy's channel and loved your personality right away. Merphy/Daniel reading One Piece got me into booktube and reading (non-manga) books again, so I'm happy to see you enjoying it as well!! Arlong Park is the part of early One Piece that got me fully attached to the series, namely due to getting Nami's backstory. The scene where she's metaphorically cutting off the source of her trauma by physically injuring herself, which leads into Luffy proving his dedication to helping by leaving his straw hat with her always gets me. That's when the crew feels like it's fully starting to come together as one. Also, I like how genuinely you described your feelings toward every bit of the story. Hopefully you continue to get more & more engrossed by the world and story! Extra: Since you said you've read some yaoi/BL manga, I'd like to recommend Given (ongoing, romance+music) and Our Dreams at Dusk (complete, 4 volumes). The latter isn't specifically BL but more of a story about a small coming together place with a broader LGBT focus.
One Piece's genres are not at all what I usually like to read. I love realistic, mature stories, no fantasy or comedy. Yet it is my favorite story ever. I'm continuously blown away by how alive this ridiculously vast world feels, how everything feels like it's constantly moving, and things connect in ways you could never guess. The tiniest random bits of dialogue can be of major importance hundreds and hundreds of chapters later. You can't know about these things right now, but e.g. on volume 51, people will tell you to go back and look at a panel in volume 3, because these details are impossible to keep track of on your first read. It is mind-blowing how Oda can handle hundreds of little threads at the same time and be patient enough to have a payoff 20 years later for some of these. You're in for a ride.
Enjoy your wonderful journey mate. It only gets better from now on. If i could suggest something. You should really do Arc reviews instead of full saga reviews. Basically each arc is its own island with its own history, architecture, habits, themes and so on, plus saga can get very very long. For context the last major saga that just ended a few weeks ago started somewhere is 2012-2013 or something like that
I definitely think I will switch to Arc reviews, maybe by the time I get to the Water 7 saga. Just testing how One Piece performs on my channel, but so far so good! Thanks for watching 😊
I've watched reactions to one piece anime but I never thought I'd like someone telling me bout their experience reading the manga, it's been fun tho, I just have to say be a lil' more patient, don't drop it, OP is sooo worth it, it only gets better, it's very unlike other series that just try to keep going without direction. About the One Piece games, there's many, but the one that tries to follow the story is One Piece Kaisoku Musou 3 which is a Hack and slash type of game like Dinasty Warriors, It's mostly about kicking some marines and pirates' behinds but it has this videos that tell you about the story, and u get to go around the islands and fight the big bosses so I like it, there's also Burning Blood which is a fighting game but starts the story way further ahead of were you are now, so be careful of spoilers. Thank you for making these videos, hope u keep going, take care.
Here I am a year later starting my journey with One Piece! I think I had pretty much the same feelings as you when I was reading. I think Nami’s backstory is when I really properly got fully invested and now I’m excited to see what comes next! Also, I’ve been avoiding spoilers like the plague and because this series is so popular I haven’t looked anything up. So this is my first time realising Zolo is called Zoro! I can only guess it’s something to do with copyright of some kind, since I know that’s why they changed so many names in the Jojo translations. I’m going to have to train my brain to start calling him the right name 😅
Welcome to One Piece: One small thing that VIZ messed up: The name of the last town you visited is actually supposed to be "Loguetown" instead of Roguetown. (I don't blame them for thinking that though because Pirates/Rogues lol) but the town is referred to as the town of "The beginning and the end" a prologue and an epilogue. Hence Loguetown.
Reading digitally is ultimately a better experience, because for certain page layouts, a good bit of the image gets lost in the space between the pages.
I love how even in this short amount of time you can really know who Luffy is and what he is about. In 22:21, you literally said how Luffy responded to Rayleigh.
Im so happy to see someone who's honestly invested in middle grade is reading One Piece! I feel like most ppl forget that being a middle grade is a big part of OP and to see you enjoying it is just a blast ❤️
@@wesleywyndam-pryce5305 Well, yeah its an adventure/comedy story with cartunized artstyle published on a magazine aimed for younger audiences, even if its still an awesome read for grown ups. Sure its got some heavy themes and scenes, but so does How to Train your Dragon (books 7-12), A Series of Unfortunate Events and Animorphs. I get its a weird thing to think at first, but middle grade is abt being fun AND discussing important things abt the world to young ppl, and thats what OP does.
oh yeah i don't know if anyone mentioned it here in the comment section but read the cover stories it continues stories from other characters from past chapters for example how buggy and al vida met in the first place or kboy and helmeppo training to become marines
I am so excited you are starting One Piece! Its very funny but will hit points that tug at your heart strings. Also, godspeed. I am watching the anime and I am 750 episodes in with about 300 to go to be caught up. I started watching four or five years ago. Looking forword to finishing in another 10 years😢
Oh wow you started that long ago? I have no chance of catching up to the anime 😂 I definitely want to give the anime a go at some point though, very excited by it 🥰
Such a cool video! I mostly remember Camp Cold Lake, too bad you didn't enjoy it haha it spooked me as a kid. But indeed the end doesn't make sense 😂 Super fun video anyhow and kudos for reading all of them!!
I'd love to hear your thoughts on devil fruits or other powers people display. I love the creative use of fruits like Alvida's or Smoker's in Louguetown. One of my favorite parts of the series.
If you love more historical pirates and have time for some TV, Black Sails is as close to perfection as we're likely to see. It's a prequel to Treasure Island that imagines a *very* realistic backstory for Flint, Silver, Bones, and the Treasure. It also has one of the most beautiful speeches about power and freedom that I've heard in my life. "They paint the world in shadows, and tell their children to stay close to the light..."
I promise I’ll keep away from spoilers, just felt I had to research the series a little bit beforehand to make sure I was reading it right 😂 so excited for the future!
You ain't a One Piece character if you don't have a tragic backstory 😉 Glad to hear you enjoyed the first 12 volumes 😁 I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the next saga in November! 😊
I just started reading the series a week or two ago and I got hooked and am now 600+ chapters in. I've also been watching anime clips of parts I really liked which I believe enhances the experience.
Nice one! But definitely go by arc instead of volume (or split bigger arcs in 2 parts later)! Manga are released weekly (in some cases monthly) in a magazine-format (so you normally have several different series in one magazine) and the volume books are just compilations of those chapter for easier buying. So volume endings have nothing to do with the importance of the story at that point. It's just random when a volume ends.
Excellent video man ! Looks like you are in for the long haul haha it’s a story I’ve been rereading and I’m glad to be back in the world. Its got some pretty amazing highs, and some pretty rough moments hahah.
Bra I just saw your goosebumps one and now your doing a peak manga one piece gang and yeah their is a lot of mangas that are amazing but mine is one piece number 1 glad you are doing this. Also take your time one piece is a lot of heat 🔥 to process
I'm gonna check in with other OP UA-camrs and see how they incorporate panels from the manga because I have heard there have been some issues with copyright, but I really do want to incorporate more in the future!
Rest assured, I regret starting One Piece because now I can't think of anything else and it's sorta kinda taking over my life 😂 Title is slightly click-bait, but let's just say I'd have more money in the bank if I didn't start this series, so the title is kinda true 🙈
Omg thank gosh you gave me a heart attack one piece is my personality. Lol got the jolly Rodger as a tattoo!
this is exactly what happened to me
Welcome to the club 😂
Welcome brother 😂 😁

O tradutor kkkkkk
I highly recommend reading by arc instead of by saga both because of length and each arc having it's own self-contained story and themes on top of the larger themes and saga progression. Maybe do a saga review at the end of each one.
Good shout! I wanted to see if there was any interest at all on One Piece on my channel first, but it seems to be going okay so far, so I'm sure I'll end up changing to ARC reviews, rather than whole sagas at once (then do a saga wrap-up at the end like you suggest).
@@GavinReadsItAll
It's also better for you if switch it up and do arc reviews because later on sagas became really long. Later sagas might only have 2-3 arcs but those arcs are all longer then 100 chapters.
I have a few suggestions to help you enhance your experience
1: don’t skip the cover story’s.
Yeah you have to accept that it is absurdism and just go with it. I’m only on volume 26 but I love these characters and their found family so much!

I like how most people don't really like Buggy ( at first ), but Oda freaking loves him!
If you do continue reading one piece, you are sure to see him again... for better or for worse
I'm gonna have to get over my fear of clowns haha
Oda knew what was coming!
@@GavinReadsItAll buggy is (which it definetly doesnt look like so far) one of the best and most powerful characters in one piece, so be prepared
Its amazing
This is amazing! One of my favorite booktubers is reading One Piece when I've started too!
I even started a manga club for it, and we just finished the East Blue Saga as well.
I loved listening to another persons take on everything that happened, and I gotta say, your comments made me realize I connect a lot with Nami in ways I couldn't put into words initially. I also struggle with thinking I have to do everything on my own and asking for help is rather difficult for me. Seeing Nami growing a bit past that is truly inspiring ;w;
Wow good for u man and ur club
I wanna join an anime or manga club, but I don't want people to judge me, or make fun of me for liking anime.
Thank you so much for watching 😊
It's a spanish character called "El Zorro" and means the Fox, the first spanish "vigilante" in a sense altough Oda could use the name and wanted to for paying tribute to the character he realized japanese readers would have a tough time with pronunciation so he changed it
I WISH I could live my life like Luffy. One Piece is one of my top anime ever. The story is so crazy sometimes and I love it.
Haha crazy stories are the best stories
I hope you’ll continue to like Usopp, he’s my absolute favourite and a huge comfort character for me! I feel like I’m the only one who really loved his introduction arc 😅
I can see how much he's trying to become brave and I love that, I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy his journey and progression as the series goes on. I find him very interesting and loved his backstory 😊
AJ loves him too! He gave my a completely new perspective on Usopp.

There's like... super box sets that have like 20 volumes per set. They're not the cheapest option as they hold the individual volumes. But it would be a good way to get a butt load of the books in one shipment. There's currently 4 sets that covers the first 90 volumes. I can't wait to see you cover more of this series! Btw, I think it's better to read and review arc by arc because volumes in manga don't cover much story compared to books so it might hurt the proper flow of the story if you do it volume by volume.

Oh gavin my heart. So happy right now.
This is my favorite anime and manga. I promise you if you keep going beyond this it will be more then you imagined. Oda is brilliant.

I have so many EMOTIONS about One Piece and Zoro is my fave boy. I'm so glad you're hooked because I love watching you do these binges. 🤣💚

Ooo thank you for the heads up on the cover stories, I’ll have to go back and look through them all
@@GavinReadsItAll Also, I assume you noticed the SBS corner, after some chapters there’s a page where Oda answers questions from fans, lots of them are horny or funny fans and Oda running with it lol, but there some great tidbits about the story so you should give them a look from time to time.

I'd really reccomend Witch Hat Atelier, I think you love the world in that one.
Also Delicious in Dungeon is incredibly fun
Oooo I've had my eye on Witch Hat Atelier, excited for that one!
I love both of these! Delicious in Dungeon is my current favourite manga series. And I'm in the 80-something volumes of One Piece currently.

Thanks for the heads up on that, I think I’ll end up having to ask for help a lot with natural stopping points in arcs / sagas and the like
I LOVE watching / hearing peoples reaction to their first reading / watching the series. All I can say is you are in for one heck of a ride. LOLOL
what is DFI?
I'm ready for this! So excited to see your journey with OP. Yup, you got it right, it's pronounced Zoro. I know you said you hate clowns, but trust me, you'll love Buggy! Just a question of when. hehehe
Haha I’m keeping open minded when it comes to Buggy 😂
I love how attached you are to the characters this early in the story, there is much more where that came from, i don't think you're ready my good sir.
About the structure of the volumes.
One Piece is a _weekly_ series, which means it's released chapter by chapter, week by week. (Completely sane and not at all suicidal release schedule by the way.)
Then once there are enough chapters to make up a volume, a tankobon book is compiled.
Have a good time reading OP! At Syrup Village (Usopp's Village) the other butler is Mery.
This series scares me because of how big it is so i'm getting the story through this vlog slay
Haha I’m glad to be of use
You're in for a ride.
lets go, merphy youre a legend for getting more into one piece
Welcome to the family ❤️
Here I am a year later starting my journey with One Piece! I think I had pretty much the same feelings as you when I was reading. I think Nami’s backstory is when I really properly got fully invested and now I’m excited to see what comes next!
Also, I’ve been avoiding spoilers like the plague and because this series is so popular I haven’t looked anything up. So this is my first time realising Zolo is called Zoro! I can only guess it’s something to do with copyright of some kind, since I know that’s why they changed so many names in the Jojo translations. I’m going to have to train my brain to start calling him the right name 😅
I think you should rank them in increments of "0.1 pieces", so that a 10/10 volume would get a score of "one piece"
That's genius 😂
Welcome to One Piece:
One small thing that VIZ messed up: The name of the last town you visited is actually supposed to be "Loguetown" instead of Roguetown.
I may give it a try at some point
love you dearly and thank you for providing my after work and college entertainment
Aww I’m just so happy to keep you company 🥰
I love how even in this short amount of time you can really know who Luffy is and what he is about. In 22:21, you literally said how Luffy responded to Rayleigh.
Im so happy to see someone who's honestly invested in middle grade is reading One Piece! I feel like most ppl forget that being a middle grade is a big part of OP and to see you enjoying it is just a blast ❤️
middle grade?
Wish I could've watched your journey before you caught up but I'm glad to have another fan to this story.
Welcome aboard nakama! I wish I could rediscover One Piece for the first time… it’s my favorite piece of media, period.
"They paint the world in shadows, and tell their children to stay close to the light..."
what? one piece is actual perfection!
He is so cute, hoping story arcs will wrap up in one or two volumes 😁
I’m learning slowly but surely 😂
THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!!! I am so happy about this.💕💕💕💕💕💕 Just don't google about one piece because spoilers are everywhere
I promise I’ll keep away from spoilers, just felt I had to research the series a little bit beforehand to make sure I was reading it right 😂 so excited for the future!
I am so excited and welcome aboard ❤️❤️🎉
fun fact: the man stuck in the chest, Gaimon, is Oda's personal favorite
You ain't a One Piece character if you don't have a tragic backstory 😉
Glad to hear you enjoyed the first 12 volumes 😁 I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the next saga in November! 😊
Haha I'm going to brace myself every time we get introduced to a new character 😂
@@GavinReadsItAll Yup, pretty much 😉
well at least the spoilers aren't seeming to ruin anything for him
I just started reading the series a week or two ago and I got hooked and am now 600+ chapters in.
Ahh that makes sense, thanks for the info!
Excellent video man ! Looks like you are in for the long haul haha it’s a story I’ve been rereading and I’m glad to be back in the world. Its got some pretty amazing highs, and some pretty rough moments hahah.
Oh gosh, I'm anticipating the rough moments 😂but excited for all the highs too!
The Arlong arc is the first arc to make me cry and I’ve been obsessed with One Piece since.
love the thoughts on it after each volume, nice to listen too, ^^
You earned a sub! You are very entertaining!
Bra I just saw your goosebumps one and now your doing a peak manga one piece gang and yeah their is a lot of mangas that are amazing but mine is one piece number 1 glad you are doing this. Also take your time one piece is a lot of heat 🔥 to process
I’m definitely going to savour my reading of One Piece 😄
i loved this! maybe you could include some of the photos you made with panels you loved when you talk about them (if its not too much work)?
I'm gonna check in with other OP UA-camrs and see how they incorporate panels from the manga because I have heard there have been some issues with copyright, but I really do want to incorporate more in the future!
Onepiece is so worth it. Oh ya, also you can watch the clips of your favourite bits to see how to was animated in the anime. The ost's are sooooo good
Oh god Daniel Greene and Merphy Napier are converting the entire book community into One Piece fans and I love it
