So weird that Sanji is referencing things that Sogeking didn't experience. But I think Oda is trying to imply that Usop would have told his friend about what happened there. Because the way Sogeking reacted, he seemed to know the straw hats so well, even after just this short of a time.
Oh yes another highlight. dunno how ussop took that leson offcreen from sogeking, but its beautiful. An sanji is great, and ussop, y robin steals everything but ussop and sogeking are amazing great too, and franky is too, like he is too playing into it and a really good foil for robin in that arc.
WELCOME 👏TO👏CRY👏PIECE👏 I actually cry just thinking about this arc. Robin's backstory, her self-loathing, her accepting found family... Anyone who has ever felt left out, and then finding your own community can relate to this arc.
If I think too hard about the "I want to live" moment it's an instant cry. Always. Specially thinking about it from the anime with the superb voice acting.
THE MAJOR SPOILER FOR MARINEFORD Contrast this with the incredible parallels with (MAJOR SPOILERS) right before the timeskip; very very similar experiences but the other person's story is in many ways basically a horrible, heartbreaking bad ending to the persecution/torment/self hatred/terror over your found family risking it all for you that Robin goes through. It hits harder because its one of the worst things to happen to Luffy and hits all the same beats as possibly the Straw Hats greatest triumph and defining moment that establishes their whole "One for all, all for one" ethos and the immense love for each other and their fellow man that lets them find the strength to take on the world. It takes all the things that made you empathise with Robin, and want her to be okay, and gives them to SPOILER before taking that hope away from him and breaking Luffy
@@GavinReadsItAll Nami asking Luffy for help, Vivi saying goodbye, Noland's story, Usop leaving the crew in Water 7, Robin's breakdown, a ship. Those are some things in this series that just thinking about them make me want to cry. Oda is a genius.
I love it when Sanji goes on these secret agent side-missions. In Little Garden, he picked up the eternal pose to Alabasta and tricked Crocodile. In Alabasta, he ran his Raindinners Casino Rescue Mission. In Skypiea, he damages the Ark Maxim so it can't go any higher, and he can get Nami and Usopp off the ship. In Water 7, he scopes out the train station because he knows the only way for Robin to get off the island was by SeaTrain. And now in Enies Lobby, he shuts the gates so the currents cause the Navy ships to collide into each other.
Reading Water 7: "I know it feels like a home and that your girlfriend gave it to you as a gift, but at the end of the day the Merry is just a ship; you're overreacting, Usopp." Reading Ennies Lobby: " * sniff* * sniff* They still have one crewmate left! And they came to the rescue! * sniff*."
This feeling is how you can tell when Oda makes death real. You're right to rarely trust that people are dead in One Piece, usually they aren't. If he is gonna kill a character he makes you remember it.
@@GavinReadsItAll One Piece backstories: the place where you know you'll be emotionally destroyed, and you happily walk in regardless. Oda turned us all into masochists
@@GavinReadsItAll now imagine re reading one piece and taking notice of every single damage the straw hats have done to the merry go recklessly, really brings another joy to re reading the story
Finally we get to robins backstory I can't overstate how much this arc changed my life, I was working a crappy night job just to pay for drugs to numb my depression and feelings of loneliness/abandonment but robins story made me realise joy and love wouldn't just come to me but if I keep living not just hiding from the world one day I'll find it, flash forward I now have an amazing wife and 2 beautiful kids Freya Sandra-Jayne and Luca robin, named in honour of the character who is responsible for me still being alive To anyone reading this who is struggling to find a reason to keep going please don't give up there is a wonderful future out there looking for you but it can only find you if you're still here ❤️
@@GavinReadsItAll I honestly could write a small novel about my feelings on robin 😂 And thank you for these reviews I've watched more first reading series than there are islands in one piece but I usually jump through them to my favourite moments but with you I can sit and listen all day, feel free to cram as much in as you can to each video 😁
Regarding the animal themes in the CP9: Lucci is a Leopard, Kaku is a very cool Giraffe, Jabura is a Wolf, Kalifa forms her bubbles into a Sheep because she is jealous that she doesn't have a Zoan devil fruit and even imitates the horns with her arms, Blueno looks like a Bull and fights like one too, Fukuro literally means Owl in Japanese and his techniques imitate the soundless movements of one as well if he didn't have an issue with thinking out loud, Kumadori has a mane like a Lion and has techniques named after Lions as well. And Spandam is obviously modelled after a female dog.
Merry showing up to save everyone is genuinely one of my favorite moments I've ever read. It's something so ridiculous and illogical that shouldn't work, and in another series I might've even rolled my eyes at something like that, but it so perfectly captures the unique whimsy and magic of one piece. It really makes me feel like a kid again, in the most wonderful way.
And immediately afterwards the childlike emotion turns into pain and tears, and wondering if you are actually a masochist for enjoying so much something that makes you suffer and cry over the drawing of a ship
It tied with animism that long time ago, people in Japan believed. Things that has been used everyday or things that are being cared has spirit in it and might one day become yokai (japan version on supernatural being/demon). It has been touched upon regularly in manga, it is the usual trope in manga setting with supernatural theme. 😅
I cried most with Robin's backstory than any other SH. Idk why, I just think it's the magnitude of the trauma she suffered by the government and the constant persecution/betrayal she encountered left and right. It's so lonely.
It really is, it broke my heart to see her entire backstory, and. to add on top of that, the fact she reunited with her mother for 2 minutes before having to leave her again. Gosh, so tragic!
@@GavinReadsItAll Told you a few videos ago, when you were wondering if you had already read Robin's backstory, when you read it you won't forget you have read it. Sorry I could not warn you it was because of the deep emotional scarring
***Spoilers for Enies Lobby*** The fact a ship can bring a whole fandom to tears just shows how good of a story teller Oda is. I tear up everytime I see someone get to this arc
Oda is the only author to make me cry tears of joy, let alone right after tears of sorrow. Robin's Backstory followed up by "I Want To Live!" is a double gut punch I still feel ten years after I first watched it. I cry every time I re-read it, every time I re-watch it, and every time I watch someone else read or watch it. You mentioned liking the dub and I must say Stephanie Young absolutely nails that scene. Robin's backstory was really the point where I became invested in the world at large. The World Government had done some pretty immoral things before this but a line was crossed here. And yes you're not alone, everyone who gets here cries over Merry and virtually everyone expresses some variation of "I can't believe I'm crying over a ship." I simply don't trust a man who can read about Merry's death and not cry.
Crying at Merry is going to be my indication whether or not someone is a good person, I’ll be using it as a test for any future relationship or friendship
Yes it hurts! I'm prepared to cry with you today. It's the fact Merry can't sail anymore but she DID just for the strawhats. She went from Water 7, during the worst wave ever, to Ennies lobby by HERSELF just to rescue the strawhats because she knew they needed her. My heart is aching. None of us knew we were going to cry this much over a ship. P.S. Gonna watch this video NOW! 2 hours of goodies! Thanks Gavin!
Passing along my tissues, but yes to everything you said about the Merry, she pushed herself far beyond her limits for her crew, her family, and ugh my heart is breaking all over again!
@@GavinReadsItAll thanks for the tissues. Definitely needed it by the end. I found it funny how you were like. Chapter 55: I LOVE IT! I LOVE IT! Chapter 56: Tears. Made me laugh and cry today. I hope you are having a great day. Can't wait for Post Ennies Lobby and the next arc.
Now that you've cried over the manga chapter for Merry's funeral, you are now obligated to cry all over again watching how they did this beautiful moment justice in the anime.
Robin biting that concrete.. bleeding in pain, desperate to try and save herself, wanting to live, then Sogeking the GOAT coming in to save the day was amazing! Sanjis commentary to ussop about doing the things that he cant do but ussop can do and then him saving robin in his way was perfect!
I’ve been caught up for about 5 years now. Like I know what’s going to happen. I’m a 30 year old man. And this arc still gets me to cry when I revisit it
@@GavinReadsItAll that what I thought so in the beginning... Yet each time I watched that moment in anime, the tear just keep on flowing down...i mean more than 100 time I have watched it through countless one piece UA-cam reactor and the tear just keep on coming....
Alright since it's an Enies Lobby video I have to mention my favorite detail in it. Remember in the flashback of Tom, he imparted upon Franky that no matter what happens, even if it may destroy the world, at the very least the creator must love his creations and never deny them. All Franky's ships were labeled the Battle Franky 1 to 35, and here in Enies Lobby we see right under his shoulder cannons he has labeled himself BF-36 Franky is his own creation, no matter what happens, no matter how much he changes, no matter what people may think of him, he will always love himself. And that is such a beautiful yet subtle part of his character that I just have to mention
"Sogeking, shoot through that flag." "Roger." Two of the most powerful lines ever spoken. Sogeking did not hesitate to follow the captain's orders and make enemies of the entire world.
16 rereads, 11 rewatches of the whole series since it had 505 episodes, 11 years since I first saw the merry farewell scene, an uncountable amount of times rewatching just that episode and STILL I get emotional just thinking about it.
I cheated and skipped right to the chapter 430 part of the video. I live for reactions to this, both to the manga and the anime (episode 312 btw, in my opinion it's even more emotional animated). I still remember reading this for the first time, I cried so hard I had to put the book away because I literally couldn't see clearly anymore. That readers can feel so much emotion over a ship is a true testament to what a great writer and artist Oda is.
@@GavinReadsItAllIt almost becomes an addiction, watching people react to that. I think it's more that it's a reminder that we're not alone, not the only ones. A weird sort of community building thing.
What I love about this arc, it's the one that really introduced us to how not just Luffy, but the entire crew have absolute trust in each other. How us as the readers, really never cared for Usopp because of everything about him (cowardrice, design, strength, etc.), but seeing how everyone placed their trust on him, letting him realize his worth, ended up making all of us root for him.
I'm not crying, YOU'RE crying! 😭 Over a flipping ship, who'd have thought eh Gavin? It totally got me too, I was sobbing. And it still get's me every time I see someone else reading it.
Thank you for uploading and I wish you a fast recovery mentally and physically! It's a nice new thumbnail 4:58 one of the best interactions! 6:38 we all want to punch Spandam, his face looks so punchable 13:12 in One Piece an enemy can become a friend, and I'm so shocked how organic the transition is written 39:00 it's a trope for shounen manga to get one or multiple power-ups pretty early on, so it's very unusual for Luffy to get one so late and it works! 40:07 nobody can be ready for the backstory. One of my favs 1:03:00 One of the best moments, makes me so hyped 1:03:58 "I want to live. Take me to sea with you" is so cathartic and emotional to me. For some reasons, I associate "sea" with "home of the pirates", so to me, Robin was screaming she wants to go home where her friends are too :,( 1:05:08 LMAO the way you blame Merphy and Amber 1:06:03 actually, Saul gas sunk the ships and the government needed a justification to get Robin and thus pinned Saul's "crime" onto Robin. 1:13:20 congrats to chapter 400! Only 600+ chapter left to catch up 1:15:16 I think it's a nice hoodie too 1:29:25 Let's all swear at Spandam too! 1:43:00 the way how Robin wants to die first but now does everything to stay alive is an astounding and beautiful but also tragic turn around 1:46:50 Ranking the strawhats Video incoming? Haha 1:49:18 Water 7 saga (excluding Long Ring Long Land) is such a good saga. First it started with a mysterious vibe with Water 7, and now it's a rescuing story. 2:02:00 the bittersweet feeling on your tongue must be the foreboding doom of Merry… 2:05:13 welcome to the Club of crying over a ship… now watch the anime. Some of the best voice acting and music 2:06:23 don't feel stupid, it just means you really loved the Merry as we did! I just have to say it's been a pleasure to see your reactions to this story. It takes a lot of strength to show vulnerability to anyone, let alone on camera where it can be viewed by thousands. There is no shame in crying, and I appreciate when creators are comfortable enough to express their genuine emotions. The effort and passion you put into your videos are appreciated, by me and I'm sure several others. I found your videos via Merphy, and while I was interested primarily for One Piece, I will continue to follow your adventures through other novels and manga :) Keep up the good work
9:43 Lost in translation moment: Here Luffy doesn't use the Japanese words for hero (Eiyuu or Yuusha) but the English word Hero, which is used for superheroes. And a bit of extra clarification, Yuusha would be the word for Luffy, if you consider him a hero. A Yuusha is someone naturally gifted to do good, a born hero, while Eiyuu is someone manually chosen to perform a heroic deed, sort of a Champion 18:50 They don't all TURN into animals, but they are all animal-themed. Since you've already finished it, it goes like this: Lucci = leopard, Kaku = giraffe, Kalifa = sheep, Blueno = bull, Jabra = wolf, Kumadori = lion (or octopus, if you ask Nami, but tentacles in manga belong in a different genre), Fukuro = owl And the side note for this is that the Shichibukai, or Warlords, also follow and animal theme 33:15 You see someone eating a Devil Fruit in chapter 1: Luffy. -But yeah, he is the only one before this moment- And as I was pointed out in the replies, also Buggy 36:25 And this Cerberus person is named after a Hound 38:23 Gear 2 is the equivalent of real world blood doping. Some athletes give themselves blood transfusions to increase their red blood cells count, that will deliver more oxygen to their muscles improving their strength and speed. Luffy does something similar by using his rubber blood vessels to pump blood faster, getting essentially the same effect. And the side note this time is that this is not the first time Luffy sees the ability Soru, or Shave. Klahador, aka Captain Kuro, aka the guy with the poop emojis on his jacket, used an imperfect version of this as his trump card 1:20:50 Well, you'll be happy to know that, despite the ones drawn by Oda are clearly Coca-Cola bottles, in Japan it was Pepsi the one that released bottles with Franky on the label 2:08:46 No, you won't. Spoiler alert, I guess. This is the One Piece fandom, the one place in the world where you cry inconsolable tears over a ship, even 15 years later. Where you declare your eternal love for an author that clearly hates you and wants to see you suffer. It's a ship. Not even a real ship, it's a fucking drawing of a ship in a fucking comic book. But seeing her die is just so fucking painful. There's no reasonable explanation for it. Hell, I don't think there's even an unreasonable explanation for it either. Yet here we all are, covered in tears, over a fucking drawing of a fucking ship. Fuck you, Oda, we love you
saying "Luffy doesn't realize that he is a hero" at this point is actually a really great observation! Many people only notice this way later in the series, you will notice when it happens. The whole Water 7 Saga (Long Ring, Water 7, Enies Lobby and post Enies Lobby) has to be my favorite Sage of the whole series. There is just sooo much to see here! The whole CP9 stuff, The Luffy vs Usopp drama, the introduction of the one and only Sogeking from Sniper island, the backstory with Ohara, The whole Merry business, and even some more stuff you haven't even read yet, Oh! It's just too much to handle. I'm sorry you had to go through such an emotional rollercoaster, but believe me, you're not the only one. There may arguably be better Sagas in the series, but the whole Water 7 saga will always be the bes one for me. But the journey isn't even half way through yet! there is way more to come, so stay strong and keep on pushing forward, Nakama!
You just have to hand it to Oda for getting us so invested in his characters unlike so many other authors, to the point where just thinking about the Merry can make grown men tear up! I cried a river the first time I read this and sheded a tear or two with you today. Thank you for letting us be a part of your Journey.
I'm a bit late to this one, just wanted to clarify something about what you say at 1:53:44, luffy isn't actually reverting in age, its just his rubber body shrinking down after going through so much stress.
I appreciate the ocasional live read of important moments, it was a treat to see "I want to live" and Merry's final moments in real time, it's especially good when people cry (because we cry too). I would definitely recommend checking out some key scenes in the anime like the two I've already mentioned and the whole scene of Luffy going down and Usopp telling him to get up and then the actual conclusion of the fight, all of those are legendary moments in the anime, and definitely make sure you're watching the japenese version with eng subs, because the delivery of the JP voice actors on those scenes is incredible.
The realest of men cry for the Going Merry. It's a rite of passage in the One Piece fanbase. Welcome to the crew, mate. 😭😭😭😭 Subscribed and rang the not so golden bell. Looking forward to next arc.
Everytime I see reactions of this part I cry again, and if you watch it on the anime it's even harder not to cry cause the voice actors and actresses really delivery it.
Oh God that intro. I'm right there with you, I remember being such a sobbing wreck reading this arc. I didn't have any tissues so the entire front of my shirt was soaking wet with tears by the end
@@GavinReadsItAll What Martin said. There's not getting over it. In 15 years you'll be minding your business, find someone talking about the Merry, about Robin yelling I want to live, about Nami stabbing her own arm, about [lots of spoilers] and you'll start weeping. That's how it is, now and forever, for One Piece fans.
Thank you so much for sharing your live reading with us. The funeral of the merry was the chapter I caught up with One Piece. As a veteran all I've got to say is: Dereshishishi.
I remember when I first read that last chapter, I thought I felt so stupid that I was crying over a ship that not only was I amazed that I was crying over a ship, not just recognizing the great storytelling, but because I never really cried at that time over anything, I kind of laughed at it too! It was just objectively funny to laugh about crying over an object, although still heartwarming to be moved at all.
Don't apologize for crying during *that* part! I literally started weeping with you. Even had to get a tissue🥲 (and it's been literally more than a decade since iy read/watched that part) Also, I'm Kind of seriously proud of this fandom for not at all spoiling the end of the enies lobby arc for you ❤
I will never not cry while watching the farewell of Going Merry. It's been more than 15 years since I saw it on TV, and it still wrenches my heart to this day. Amazing video, can't wait for the next one!
Fun tidbits: - Sanji may have learned his Diable Jambe move from Wanze (the guy he fought on the train who ignites his skates using friction during their fight). - Robin finally begins to refer to the Strawhats by their names rather than nicknames. - Everyone goes along with Sniper King until things get serious and thats when the crew drops the act and call him Usopp.
19:30 the CP9 all have a loose animal theme, as you saw not everybody literally turn into an animal. Like Spandam looks like a panda, Blueno like a bull, Kalifa a sheep, Fukoro an owl (well, acts like one), Kumadori a lion/octupus and even that recruit Nero was loosely based on a sea otter or something like that. 1:20:20 Oda loves the "ticking time bomb" trope. He does it every time at various degree of seriousness. 1:34:10 yeah, there aren't many, but Nami's duels are super interesting because her weapon is so creative and original. They are for sure among my favorite fights. 1:50:40 I think they aren't all brutal with "absolute justice". As you can see later, Strawberry (the one with tall hairs) took his time to rescue the soldiers on the island. Even in Robin's flashback you see the difference in personal beliefs between people like Aokiji, Saul and the one who blew up the evacuation ship. I think it's a great way for Oda to depict all the shades of morality in the navy, it's not just black & white. In the saga before, T-Bone was another example that contrasted so much with all the other people on "his team" (like cipher pols). I think all the time the navy is shown, Oda wants to show different contrasting characters, from corrupted, evil, zelots, empathetic, morally ambiguous, rebellious... even going back to the East Blue, the first example of the navy we get to see is Morgan, a brutal power-hungry marine, but he is contrasted by Coby, who wants to be a marine, and Morgan's own men which once freed even thank Luffy and let him go with a salute. In Nami's arc we got to see the corrupted marines, but in the same moment we also saw that one-off commander from another division who came to genuily rescue the people but just got obliterated. So I think Oda did a good job in portraying such a huge organization.
Man hearing you say "I'm so happy that the merry is back" when you are like half a chapter away from her death, and then seeing that your next chapter video was 10 minutes long was so funny/sad/relatable
I cried with you in this video.. Also, the anime really did great on the part of the ''I want to live!'' scene and the farewell to our dear crewmate Merry. Hearing the screams of Luffy and Robin and just the entire arc still makes me cry just thinking about it. I recommend that you watch the anime in Japanese with English subtitles since the Japanese voice actors bring out the emotion way better in my opinion, but that's completely up to you ofcource! I can't wait for the video of Post-Enies Lobby and I hope you have a great recover and day!
Saw the title and came here to cry with you. I repeat watch sending of Going Merry whenever I need a good cry or want to remember something I am so thankful for. Thanks for sharing your reading!
As I was editing that part I remember that I said I wasn’t going to cry over a ship, and then chuckled at past me for being so naive 😂 then I realised I had to include a flashback, my own little backstory as you will haha
I have to remember to hydrate before rereading, rewatching, or viewing any reactions to Enies Lobby. Doesn't matter how many times I have seen it - and by now it is well over a dozen - Robin's backstory, and Merry's funeral, both of those destroy me every time. So yeah, um, it's going to be hard talking about Merry for some time. We get new crew members, we get a new ship, and I love them all, but you never forget the ones we lost. That is the power of a well-written story.
I've been reading One Piece along with you for the first time so I can watch these videos and it's been so much fun!! Thank you for making them so long and detailed
I remember so many emotions. This is one of my favorite arc. Thank you for your help to make me to remember it. Glad you enjoyed it even if it's bring a lot of emotions.
My favorite thing about your little "coming up" segment here is we don't know _which_ scene is causing it. There are _at least_ three, the backstory, "I want to live!" and the Merry. This whole stretch is so good!
Thank you!! And yep there were a good few moments that had me weeping, and I never thought this would happen when I first started One Piece 4 months ago 😂
I skiped some parts, cause I'm at work right now, and I cryed along. The Merry part is one of the most beautiful things I've read in my life. It's sad, because its a friend saying good bye, but at the same time it a friend that has accepted his fate and is happy for the journey he had. This scene is the scene where I said to myself that One Piece is one of the best stories everyone has ever told. Not even Tolkien could make cry for a boat. (I promisse I'll watch the whole video when I'm off work)
Seeing your giddiness at some moments made me so happy, and i cried with you at the emotional parts too, even though im not even rereading the series along!!! I’ve adored seeing you go onto this One Piece discovery journey so far, thank you for your great energy 🥰 I’m excited for you to read the rest of the story :)))
I can't count the amount of times I've cried over the "I want to live" moment through the years (I first watched this arc back in 2007), but up until today I had never cried because somebody else was reading it. That moment's probably my favourite moment in any piece of fiction ever, and I doubt anything will ever top it.
Finally had the time to finish your video! Great as always! I don't think anyone would have thought they would cry over a fictional ship before this arc. At least I know I didn't. Such amazing storytelling! Also I love your hoody!
I'm just going to copy-paste a comment I've written elsewhere before because it still works: The Tower of Justice fights are some of my favorites in One Piece just by virtue of how they all interact with each other. Zoro falls into Usopp's fight, and they get locked together, and send Chopper to get a key to free them. Nami encounters Kumadori and steals his key, but needs to be saved by Chopper. Sanji is beaten by Kalifa, and Nami takes over that fight. Chopper interferes in Franky's fight and is the one to refuel him. Then the now-Monster Point Chopper, rampaging around, interrupts Nami's fight, and frees Sanji from the Foam-Foam effect. Nami is able to beat Kalifa and get the key to free Zoro and Usopp, and Franky dunks Chopper in the sea to end his rampage. Zoro continues his original fight, but Usopp and Nami are no match for Jabra - good thing Sanji's in fighting condition now, so he can take over. Then Franky passes through _Luffy's_ fight and heads to help Robin. The keys are handed to Usopp, who then delivers them to Franky, after giving Robin covering fire. And then to top it all off, Kokoro of all people saves the Straw Hats from being killed by an aftereffect of Luffy and Lucci's fight. That's like 10 or so points of interconnectedness. More than either side had people fighting. And additionally, Luffy's opponent isn't the "main antagonist" as would normally be the case for a protagonist - that's Spandam, who gets taken out by Usopp, Franky and Robin taking turns. Luffy just fights the one he needs to stall, because nobody else can handle that guy, and in turn has to leave the whole rescue operation to everybody else.
The "I Want To Live" moment is so iconic in the fandom. I love how realistic Oda's drawing of Robin is. Like she's ugly crying instead of those adorable anime girly faces they have when female characters cry in anime. And in the anime the Japanese voice actress made the moment so much better. Also the Kokoro reveal is one of the funniest moments in the series 🤣.
I can imagine the Japanese voice actor did an amazing job with the scene. And I can imagine the “I want to live” is going to top my favourite One Piece moments when I finally do the video, maybe when I’ve caught up

WELCOME 👏TO👏CRY👏PIECE👏
I actually cry just thinking about this arc. Robin's backstory, her self-loathing, her accepting found family... Anyone who has ever felt left out, and then finding your own community can relate to this arc.
This arc was wonderful for Robin, she really is one of my favourite characters in fiction ever because of this arc!
@@GavinReadsItAll Mine too. I just love her.
If I think too hard about the "I want to live" moment it's an instant cry. Always. Specially thinking about it from the anime with the superb voice acting.
With you, I’ve read/watched it 10+ times and I have yet to get through it dry-eyed. Absolutely destroys me. Every. Single. Time.
THE MAJOR SPOILER FOR MARINEFORD
Contrast this with the incredible parallels with (MAJOR SPOILERS) right before the timeskip; very very similar experiences but the other person's story is in many ways basically a horrible, heartbreaking bad ending to the persecution/torment/self hatred/terror over your found family risking it all for you that Robin goes through.
If you don't cry during Water 7/ Enies Lobby, you're dead inside.
I don't know how anyone can make it through without crying
Every time I watch a reaction, watch the episodes or read that part of manga, I can’t help but cry. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME
@@GavinReadsItAll if you cry now you are in for a rude awakening in the future of this manga.
@@willm772 Damn it...
Sanji is the best secret agent, love all those moments!!
Reading Water 7: "I know it feels like a home and that your girlfriend gave it to you as a gift, but at the end of the day the Merry is just a ship; you're overreacting, Usopp."
Reading Ennies Lobby: " * sniff* * sniff* They still have one crewmate left! And they came to the rescue! * sniff*."
AAHHH here come the tears again!! 😭
This feeling is how you can tell when Oda makes death real. You're right to rarely trust that people are dead in One Piece, usually they aren't. If he is gonna kill a character he makes you remember it.
Why do I feel like there’s gonna be more death that’s gonna emotionally destroy me to come 👀

I can't overstate how much this arc changed my life, I was working a crappy night job just to pay for drugs to numb my depression and feelings of loneliness/abandonment but robins story made me realise joy and love wouldn't just come to me but if I keep living not just hiding from the world one day I'll find it, flash forward I now have an amazing wife and 2 beautiful kids Freya Sandra-Jayne and Luca robin, named in honour of the character who is responsible for me still being alive

@@jacobleyshon1399 I second this
Regarding the animal themes in the CP9: Lucci is a Leopard, Kaku is a very cool Giraffe, Jabura is a Wolf, Kalifa forms her bubbles into a Sheep because she is jealous that she doesn't have a Zoan devil fruit and even imitates the horns with her arms, Blueno looks like a Bull and fights like one too, Fukuro literally means Owl in Japanese and his techniques imitate the soundless movements of one as well if he didn't have an issue with thinking out loud, Kumadori has a mane like a Lion and has techniques named after Lions as well. And Spandam is obviously modelled after a female dog.
I'd like to let you know that your last sentence caught me off guard, thanks for the laugh
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The worst part for me was Tha granny that pretended to take rebin in only to sell her. That part was bone chilling
***Spoilers for Enies Lobby***
The fact a ship can bring a whole fandom to tears just shows how good of a story teller Oda is.

Crying over Merry is such a core part of the One Piece experience

Gavin: "Okay, Alright, I'm fine, I'm fine"
Also Gavin: "No, i'm not fine, i need 10 minutes break"
Genuinely thought I had the strength to carry on talking, but alas, I did not
Now that you've cried over the manga chapter for Merry's funeral, you are now obligated to cry all over again watching how they did this beautiful moment justice in the anime.

Alright since it's an Enies Lobby video I have to mention my favorite detail in it. Remember in the flashback of Tom, he imparted upon Franky that no matter what happens, even if it may destroy the world, at the very least the creator must love his creations and never deny them. All Franky's ships were labeled the Battle Franky 1 to 35, and here in Enies Lobby we see right under his shoulder cannons he has labeled himself BF-36
Franky is his own creation, no matter what happens, no matter how much he changes, no matter what people may think of him, he will always love himself. And that is such a beautiful yet subtle part of his character that I just have to mention
I need a side piece adventure of Chimney and Gonbe. She has Luffy energy and you know they get into some shenanigans.
YESSS I'd subscribe to this
"Sogeking, shoot through that flag." "Roger." Two of the most powerful lines ever spoken.
I'd have done the same to be fair haha, and now I want to watch people's reactions to the chapter and episode of the anime. It hits so hard!!
Speak for yourself, Usopp was always awesome to me

So much for Oda not killing characters when they give a ship a personality and everything and then kill it off 😭
Oda always creating the most Iconic and most emotional scenes💙💯
9:43 Lost in translation moment: Here Luffy doesn't use the Japanese words for hero (Eiyuu or Yuusha) but the English word Hero, which is used for superheroes.
And a bit of extra clarification, Yuusha would be the word for Luffy, if you consider him a hero. A Yuusha is someone naturally gifted to do good, a born hero, while Eiyuu is someone manually chosen to perform a heroic deed, sort of a Champion
18:50 They don't all TURN into animals, but they are all animal-themed. Since you've already finished it, it goes like this: Lucci = leopard, Kaku = giraffe, Kalifa = sheep, Blueno = bull, Jabra = wolf, Kumadori = lion (or octopus, if you ask Nami, but tentacles in manga belong in a different genre), Fukuro = owl
And the side note for this is that the Shichibukai, or Warlords, also follow and animal theme
33:15 You see someone eating a Devil Fruit in chapter 1: Luffy. -But yeah, he is the only one before this moment- And as I was pointed out in the replies, also Buggy
36:25 And this Cerberus person is named after a Hound
38:23 Gear 2 is the equivalent of real world blood doping.
Klahador, aka Captain Kuro, aka the guy with the poop emojis on his jacket, used an imperfect version of this as his trump card
1:20:50 Well, you'll be happy to know that, despite the ones drawn by Oda are clearly Coca-Cola bottles, in Japan it was Pepsi the one that released bottles with Franky on the label
2:08:46 No, you won't. Love your taste in arcs
saying "Luffy doesn't realize that he is a hero" at this point is actually a really great observation!

Fun tidbits:
- Sanji may have learned his Diable Jambe move from Wanze (the guy he fought on the train who ignites his skates using friction during their fight).

Luffy has another definition of a hero.
This is true, he's hard too define
@@GavinReadsItAll Actually not. He will tell you his idea of a hero at some point. Just have to read a little bit longer.
Luffy wants just to have meat 24/7 to eat 😂😂
"Everyone's always fine :)"
Fufufufufu 😈
I adore that you assume by default that everyone is always gonna be fine
Never be sorry for FEELING. Merry’s funeral hits like a truck. Luffy apologizing for not taking better care of the ship breaks me.
i LOVE how you included your previous footage of how you wont cry for a ship... and then...
As I was editing that part I remember that I said I wasn’t going to cry over a ship, and then chuckled at past me for being so naive 😂 then I realised I had to include a flashback, my own little backstory as you will haha
Your One Piece collection looks impressive. We hope to see more great content from you.
Thanks so much!! Lots more One Piece goodness coming to my channel in the future, so excited!
“I Want to Live” is an iconic One Piece Moment. There are a few coming up. So glad it hit you like it hit many of us.
That jump into merry scene in the anime was amazing. That soundtrack in the background was just perfect!!!!
04:07 thank you for the clarification! It is important to distinguish the two characters
I had to rectify my mistake in the Water 7 video
i cannot believe that i just watched a 2-hour video in youtube. that ending, man i also have that same reaction.
OMG that clip of the old video was perfect!!! I was laughing and crying at the same time! Such a great arc in one piece glad you loved it!
I cryed with you over the merry, like everytime I see/read it, but at the same time I smiled and was happy about how much you love One Piece.
Sharing my tissues with you, and thanks so much for joining me on this journey!
Beem waiting since yesterday for your upload ! Finally !
Hope it was worth the wait!
(I promisse I'll watch the whole video when I'm off work)
Enjoy work! And yeah I agree, only Oda could make us cry for a ship, but wow the emotions were so real 😭
It's a fucking drawing of a ship, and we bawl our eyes out as if the world is was ending. Oda hates us and feeds off our tears
I have to agree with you, that moment might just be my fav moment in fiction ever
My favourite one piec moment , weep
OMG YES!!! home sick today and this is just the pick me up i needed!!
Get well soon!!
THERE IT IS! (One of) the videos I've been so eagerly waiting for since the start of your Grand Line journey!
Finally had the time to finish your video! Great as always! I don't think anyone would have thought they would cry over a fictional ship before this arc. At least I know I didn't. Such amazing storytelling!
Also I love your hoody!
Thanks, I got the hoodie from LightInTheBox! It’s so comfy 😊 and thanks for watching!!
Oh man your reaction to seeing Robin's volume had black pages for backstory was great. I love these so much!!
44:01 aww you are like a proud mama so cuteee❤
I'm just going to copy-paste a comment I've written elsewhere before because it still works:
The Tower of Justice fights are some of my favorites in One Piece just by virtue of how they all interact with each other.
A year late. But very underrated comment
