I have low porosity hair and steaming my hair as part of my deep conditioning regimen is an absolute MUST! Without steaming, the product just doesn't penetrate and no matter how long I let it sit on my hair, it does just that....sits ON TOP of my hair. It barely gets through the hair shaft. I've gone through about 3 steamers over the years and at this point, I refuse to buy another one because they're pricey so I recently invested in a steam cap that I got on Amazon for around $30. I also bought a travel steamer. Although it's intended for clothes, it works just fine when I use it on my hair, just be careful not to burn yourself.

I thought about steaming my hair also, but I found an even better way for me. While still in the shower after 1) washing, 2) conditioning my hair, I then put a deep conditioner on my hair and place a deep conditioning cap to trap the moisture and then leave on for 15-20 minutes and then rinse out.

Thank you for this! 🙌🏾 One piece of advice for low porosity hair is to deep condition with heat and alternate at least once a month with a protein based conditioner so your hair will be balanced. I am low porosity. I discovered that by opening my cuticles with warm water to get products in and closing my cuticles by using cool water to lock in moisture has helped immensely with the appearance and over all health of my hair. I get the extreme darkness and shine after doing this method on my wash days. The nice form of my curl pattern. Strength of my hair. The speed of growth. And manageability. And I must add that topping it off with a quality oil just enhances it even more. And last but not least a little goes a very long way when it comes to how much product I use in my hair. Just using very little makes a drastic difference in how my hair look and feel and grows versus adding a lot or too much which makes it look and feel dirty and dull when all the dirt in the air gets attracted to it.

Your moisture cycle may be 2-3 days, you can either moisturize your hair on day 2 or look into one of the moisturizers I mentioned in this video which may increase your cycle. Also, try sealing with hair grease (if your hair responds well to it) this can also elongate the moisture within the hair. I hope this helps!

I’m medium porosity. My advice would be to keep it simple. Use shampoos and conditioners that have JBCO and apple cider vinegar in them to help with the protein-moisture balance. I love using Shea Moisture’s JBCO line. I use Shea Moisture’s Raw Shea Butter Restorative Conditioner as a leave-in. I use the conditioning cap from Glow by Daye and keep it on my hair for 15 minutes. It works best when you heat up the cap on each side for a minute. After the 15 minutes I use my own DIY oil to seal the moisture in. I braid my hair up and put on my bonnet. When I go to work, I leave my hair tied up in a durag (scarves can’t fit my head because it’s too big 😂🤣) with a beanie on top. I usually moisturize my hair every 3-4 days. That’s how I maintain my hair every week.

The people that loved it said that it defined their curls which says again higher protein. I am conflicted but won't get this one. I did get the Camille rose algae deep conditioner and my hair feels interesting. It melted in effortlessly and the result is that my hair is soft and moist so I would say that it worked. To the community. My hair has a million and one textures. However, the porosity is consistent throughout. What has helped has been treating the porosity and the most susceptible texture prone to moisture loss. I also have psoriasis, and acne, and all of that affects my hair. Slowly; but surely I am getting the hang of it. Don't feel bad if you have not yet, I will be 44 in a few months, and I am now. And by now I mean a few months ago am finally getting my regime together. There is hope for us!

I did like Urban Hydrators Aloe and Cucumber liquid leave in. But they discontinued it. Haven't found another that I like yet. I'm experimenting with a dyi liquid leave in with water, glycerin and aloe. I decided not to use an oil as I will be using this daily and my fine hair doesn't handle oil well.
