The demo with the blinds to describe the cuticle layer and the differences between low, medium, and high porosity was brilliant! And the use of body heat for high porosity hair when deep conditioning just saved me from buying a steam cap! It never occurred to me that since the cuticle scales (those are the things that open and close on the cuticle) are already open I don't need to blast it with outside heat, either wet or dry, to get moisture into the shaft. Also the explanation on using apple cider vinegar mixed with water gave me an "a ha" moment: now I know why my hair (high) feels so soft and smooth when rinsing with that concoction. I knew I loved your channel for a reason! I learn so much from watching.
Please please please do a video about white/grey/silver hair. I'm 59 and my hair is in this category. I need guidance on how to get rid of the frizz, how to bump up the shine, how to tame down the coarseness. Thank you, you know I love you Boo, thanks Linwood
Grey has a tendency to be coarse or wiry, its part of it's composition. White hair tends to be much more delicate though. A hair steamer is an excellent way to get more moisture in, make sure that when styling you opt for low heat or no heat options, so you don't scorch the hair or cause it to yellow. Violet shampoos can help with removing mild yellowing, but not extreme cases.

Sir, your videos have been popping in my feed for years, and I’m just now really tuning in. This is great info, especially as I learn my daughter’s hair. and I agree with the sentiment that you’re a great teacher. 👏🏽🤩
Aww thank you so much! I’m glad that you decided to watch, and I hope that you enjoy the other videos on my channel, if you decide to check them out as well! Thanks for watching!
The hairdresser I had from kindergarten until I was in my 20s always told me that my hair was “spongy”. I didn’t understand what she meant for years. Been relaxer free for 6 years. My porosity seems like it has stayed the same relaxed or not. My fine 3c/4a/4b hair loves deep conditioning. This has been sooooo helpful to me.
I love love loooove this video. I think this is the first hair video I watched and listened attentively till the end. You are a great teacher. So well articulated. Thank you so much for the great information. And here I was ignoring all your videos that the algorithm was proposing me for the past 2 years.
Do you believe that a lot of naturals mistakenly believe they have low porosity hair due to product build up? I’ve gone back to regularly washing my hair with a Sulfate shampoo and I’m realizing that my hair is actually high porosity but because I had been using so much grease and oil, water had a difficult time penetrating my strands.
I believe it too ! Especially TGIN it causes too much buildup almost every product of theirs is heavy on silicones and thick oils it's too much . I think it's also responsible for people saying their hair is not curly ..
Are you in my head? Wow! After watching a quarter of the way through I'm sitting here thinking maybe I just have product build up and may not truly be low porosity 🤔
Yes but remember were supposed to clarify with a sulfate shampoo at least once per month. So if you use a sulfate free shampoo regularly you should be alternating it with a sulfate shampoo every other wash day or once per month at least.
OMG, the best in depth description of hair. I needed this. Thank you, thank you, and thank you more. I'm 52 years old and finally can see how to care for my hair. I'm excited about getting into my natural hair care. Thank you so much.
My hair is naturally higher-porosity, but after all my chemical abuse... I think a sidewalk in July holds water longer. Friends oft' think I've coloured my hair when they see it wet, because it's about three shades darker than normal. But I'm learning how to seal in the moisture better, all thanks to you. You are such an amazing teacher. Your actual students are so lucky to have you.
Porosity has always been the most confusing topic in the realm of natural hair. I got a hair analysis 3 years ago, and they told me that my hair was normal to high porosity. However, on the microscopic pics of my hair, my cuticles were closed tightly like low porosity hair. I’m gonna experiment with some of the tips you mentioned in this video and decide my porosity from there! Thank you!
Hello, beautiful people! I am writing this comment a year after I watched this life-changing and eye-opening video, which literally changed my har (and life tbh). For years (I'm now 30) I have struggled with my hair journey, trying almost everything to make it grow strong, and nothing seemed to help. Until this video. I started hydrating my hair on a daily basis (just the lengths) with the LOC method and everybody says the results are amazing. No more dull, thin, frizzy, dry and depleted of life hair! I'm so so so happy that I came across this video! Thank you, GlamFam Hair & Beauty!
I always thought I was low porosity cause my hair don’t absorb hair products fast but I don’t really have build up that much I don’t think 🤔. I wish I could just show you my hair 😂
Yes, yes, yes! I needed this so much. After sick from covid, and dealing with low energy. I neglected my natural hair. My hair had grown over the years because I had a hair journey that paid off with bra strap length hair. But I neglected it for 3 weeks and the damage was extensive. The knots, and tangled hair was overwhelming. Your tips have given me hope to repair and restore the damage done. I actually was considering a Big Chop! Yet it took 3.5 years to grow my hair to this length. Thanks from 4C spiral! Keep up your educational videos 🥰
thank you for the break down ! i needed this! and i WILL stop beating myself up. i have low porosity hair and was convinced i wasn’t doing something right. i eat healthy, try to use good products on my hair and follow all your tips from wrapping my hair at night to finding the right products for my hair type. you have helped me grow my hair out so much my hair stylist is amazed when she trims my hair every 3 months.
This video was E X T R E M E L Y helpful and I'm about to download the guide NOW! I have been watching video after video on how to get my daughter's hair to retain moisture. I've spent so much money trying product after product, and you explained her hair to perfection (moisture today, dry tomorrow, the tangling, ect.) and now I know I've been a horrible natural hair mother 😆. Everything you said NOT to do to high porosity hair I've done to hers because I didn't know!😧 Hopefully now with this information I can help sis out, because she love love loves her curls, but I haven't let her wear them because I've been torturing to poor things 🤦🏽♀️ Thank you so much, and thank you from my daughter and her curls too. This video saved the life of many curls today. 😄❤
Hi Linwood. I recently came across your channel (for the second time I think) a few months ago and it has been a huge blessing. I now know how to properly keep my type 4 hair moisturized and my curls popping easily even in dry weather. I'm even giving hair advice : ). Your content is fantastic, I'm grateful you chose to share your knowledge and expertise. Thank you. God bless you and your lovely family.
You have changed my hair’s life! It’s dishwater sandy colored and super fine but coils going in different directions (4a I think) hard to keep moisturized. You’re amazing. Thanks sooo much!!
Thank you! Thank you 🙏🏽 I believe my hair is normal to high porosity based on the descriptions you gave. This will help me to be more consistent with the products I use instead of “hit or miss”. This is very informative and I thank God, in the name of Jesus for giving you the wisdom to be able to break this down so well. Stay blessed. 😘🥰🎁
Wow! I am so proud of you! I love it when I see young people so passionate about their craft!! Love your examples, love the way you explain, love the way you communicate!
Hi Elizabeth. I had a serious scalp issue and was using all kinds of medicated shampoos and scalp treatments. I had scabs around the hairline, especially at the front. I eventually moved from the area I was living and could no longer go to my usual, salon so I had to change salon. The first thing I noticed at this new salon was that these ladies never put their fingers into their products, they sanitized a lot...comb dropped on the floor and it was sanitized. Client leaves the chair its sanitized. Well 2 months after going there I had the most healthy scalp to this day...13 years later. I tell this story to everyone with scalp issues. Look into your environment to see if there is anything you can change.....unless its internal.
First of all Linwood, I want to thank you for doing such a thoroughly video on hair porosity. Neither again will I watch another UA-camr trying to explain this. I don't want to hear or see another water test to determine your hair porosity. This video is informative and educational of explaining this topic 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿 .I wish another person try to do a video on this because they are surely going to get a thumbs down👎🏿.I have heard this from a licensed cosmetologist and teacher do I know better. I don't have to take information from an amateur anymore but I have a professional who knowswhat they are talking about. Thanks you again @❤
You are the absolute best!! You are sharing information that many others hoard. That means you are giving; those who give ALWAYS get much more in return. I pronounce blessings over you and all that's yours. Thanks for sharing 😊
You are such an amazing educator. I've learned so much about my hair because of you. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge with us via this platform
Thank you so much Linwood. As I've moved into my late 40s I've noticed my hair has changed. Your videos have been so helpful and I'm looking forward to implementing your advice to help my hair retain more moisture.
THANK YOU for talking about medium porosity!!! It took me a long time to realize that I didn’t fit the extreme versions of high or low porosity. There are hardly any videos focused on medium so I thought I must be wrong. Please do more to educate people on medium since that is where most people are.
Great info! I have baby fine low porosity waves. Not so easy to take care of. This man knows what he's speaking about. I just started adding protein into my regime and my hair does not feel quite so weak and limp. Also, the bit about watering down products really is important also. Thanks so much.
Never has anyone explained the science of High-Low porosity before as plain as you my friend!!! dont know who you are or where you come from but you are my new hair guru..I wish everyone had this approach!!!!
Thank you so much for all of the knowledge that you’ve shared! It’s only been a couple of days and my hair already looks way better, with minimal product used for styling.
I am starting my natural hair journey and there are so may videos out there that talk about what works best for that individual but this is THE MOST informative video I have seen out there. I am able to understand the difference between the levels of porosity so I can recognize when it may change depending what I’m doing to it...and most importantly how I can PROPERLY treat it in any state of porosity. THANK YOU!!!
Wow, wow, wow! This was so extremely informative. My hair is definitely high porosity, loves grease, tangling up, and DC's without heat. Thank you for helping me understand my hair! I just subscribed and will be watching your videos from now on.
@@saja2981 I don't think there is a way to fix it per se, it's more of working with it. When I shampoo my hair I use neutralizing shampoo for the first wash. My hair is silky and zero tangles no matter how much I manipulate it, then I do a second wash with regular shampoo to get it clean. I also use products that are PH balanced like Aphogee, take my time, keep the hair in one direction and make sure it's detangled (finger comb+ prayer hands method) before rinsing at every step. **Very important*** Also helps to completely detangle my hair to the scalp before washing; spend a good 10-15 minutes combing it out beforehand. Hope that helps. Also, moisturize/seal regularly, wear a satin bonnet at night. Listen to your hair, love it, have passion for taking care of it💕
I agree with you, so helpful. I’m the one that feels like oh dear all seem to apply. I particularly appreciated the explanation of how shampoos can change our hair Parasity in addition to how we care for our hair. I was listening while on the go so I plan to sit down and really listen to this video and learn a few things as I just did a chop and this is a great opportunity to really learn my hair better. ( I was natural and hair went from full to thin back and forth) .
I'm old school first i love your channel ❤ secondly back in the day we never had to worry about porosity we slap grease on our hair and water and keep our hair braided up and it just grew....but now its sooo much to learn now I'm confused 😕 so went back to grease lol but luv your channel 💓

You are very knowledgeable and charismatic. You need a big stage.
Aww thank you so much! Thanks for watching!
I love listening to you because you explain things to the "T", thank you so much!
Aww thank you so much! Thanks for watching!
I learned so much just 15 minutes into the video and one thing I stopped doing is using protein
Thank you so very much! I am so grateful that you are learning from the videos! 😊🙏🏽❤️
This video is the gift that keeps on giving. I reviewed your information and realize where i have missed a few steps. Thanks Boo
WHEN HE MOVED TO THE WINDOW 🤭👏 I had to sit down ❤️
#Namibian🇳🇦
Seven minutes into this video and I know more about hair than I did my whole life. Incredible job you are an excellent teacher.
Thank you!
My pleasure! Thanks for watching, and best of luck!
Where did you get this analysis. I'd love to get one
Linwood you are amazing! Literally THE BEST video on porosity! Thank you! 💞
I have watched this video so may times. I am always coming back for my reminders. The most indepth video on the topic.
You're absolutely are walking hair brilliancy! Thank you for teaching what's needed!
thank you for the break down ! i needed this! and i WILL stop beating myself up. i have low porosity hair and was convinced i wasn’t doing something right. i eat healthy, try to use good products on my hair and follow all your tips from wrapping my hair at night to finding the right products for my hair type. you have helped me grow my hair out so much my hair stylist is amazed when she trims my hair every 3 months.
The best explanation about low and high porosity hair! I'm just now learning about this! Thank you so much!
Everything you said NOT to do to high porosity hair I've done to hers because I didn't know!😧
Hopefully now with this information I can help sis out, because she love love loves her curls, but I haven't let her wear them because I've been torturing to poor things 🤦🏽♀️
Thank you so much, and thank you from my daughter and her curls too. This video saved the life of many curls today. 😄❤
My baby hair is high porosity too..what product u use on your baby girl's hair...
Outstanding breakdown of low, normal/medium, & high porosity hair! I now understand which products, are best suited for my hair! Thank you!
Best video ever on hair porosity. Very easy to understand and such helpful tips I’m hearing for the first time👏
Wow, you are a true educator. I will have to review this at least 5 times. Thank you.
You explained in such a clear and concise manner, amazing.
You have changed my hair’s life! It’s dishwater sandy colored and super fine but coils going in different directions (4a I think) hard to keep moisturized. You’re amazing. Thanks sooo much!!
My joy! Thanks so much for the feedback and thank you for watching!
I ❤ your blinds/light analogy to mean hair and moisture!
I have hair that is fine and high porosity (does life get any better😣). This video really helps. Thanks!😄
Same type hair here
Same!!!
Whachu talkin about Willis???
Same.
Ditto
The BEST video ever on porosity...keep them coming🙏🏾 thank you.
You are such a great teacher and i love how your right to the point but still explain all that we need to know
You are THE BEST HAIR INSTRUCTOR EVER!!!! Thank you SO much! Peace, prosperity, light, blessings and love to you and your beautiful family!!!
The heck. This is the best video on hair that I've watch yet! Everything you've said just about explains my hair issues!
Wow! I am so proud of you! I love it when I see young people so passionate about their craft!! Love your examples, love the way you explain, love the way you communicate!
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! The information I need from a professional, explained and demonstrated throughly. I'm an appreciative follower.
It's so easy to watch you videos until the end. Always great information.
I'm so glad I found your channel. You've cleared up so many misconceptions.
Hi Linwood! Waiting for a video on scalp health, dealing with dandruff and scabs. That would be great!
Try Aloe Vera plant. Also apple cider vinegar with water mixture. It helped my scalp
Wow. Phenomenal video. I could listen to you talk all day. Absolutely incredibly informative. You have beautiful hands. Thank you for this
First of all Linwood, I want to thank you for doing such a thoroughly video on hair porosity.
I fell asleep listening to music and woke up to your class. I love you. Great info. Well delivered.
Aww thank you so much! Thanks for watching!
Very clear, concise, and in-depth in explaining hair porosity. Great video.
I am currently a cosmetology student and you are a great teacher and I love your channel and you thank you and please keep educating we need you
Woooooooow. THANK YOU
Hello gorgeous how are you doing?
Thank you so much Linwood. As I've moved into my late 40s I've noticed my hair has changed. Your videos have been so helpful and I'm looking forward to implementing your advice to help my hair retain more moisture.
THANK YOU for talking about medium porosity!!! It took me a long time to realize that I didn’t fit the extreme versions of high or low porosity. There are hardly any videos focused on medium so I thought I must be wrong. Please do more to educate people on medium since that is where most people are.
I love how in depth you get. You break it all the way down for us. Yess #IUnderstandNow
I have never learned as much about the different hair porosities as I have from your channel, thank you so much!! Saved my hair :)
My absolute pleasure! Thank you so much for watching and thank you as well for your monetary gift! 🙏🏽
Naturally high porosity 😩😩😩 I haven’t done anything to my hair - no dye, no relaxer, no heat. Just god making me special
This is so cool. My mom is high porosity too.
I am too. 🤬
Me too! It’s not bad once you learn how to treat it!
Great info! I have baby fine low porosity waves. Not so easy to take care of. This man knows what he's speaking about. I just started adding protein into my regime and my hair does not feel quite so weak and limp. Also, the bit about watering down products really is important also. Thanks so much.
haha I love the example with the window, you have such great information in these videos!
Never has anyone explained the science of High-Low porosity before as plain as you my friend!!! dont know who you are or where you come from but you are my new hair guru..I wish everyone had this approach!!!!
I swear I click that like button before I watch the video and I’m never disappointed that I did!!!
Thank you so much for all of the knowledge that you’ve shared! It’s only been a couple of days and my hair already looks way better, with minimal product used for styling.
this was mindblowing honestly
Thanks so very much!
I will definitely watch this again. Thank you for the information, I just subscribed.
Wow, wow, wow! This was so extremely informative. My hair is definitely high porosity, loves grease, tangling up, and DC's without heat. Thank you for helping me understand my hair! I just subscribed and will be watching your videos from now on.
How to fix it
@@saja2981 I don't think there is a way to fix it per se, it's more of working with it. **Very important***
Also helps to completely detangle my hair to the scalp before washing; spend a good 10-15 minutes combing it out beforehand.
♥THIS is the ONLY hair channel you will EVER need!
I'm old school first i love your channel ❤ secondly back in the day we never had to worry about porosity we slap grease on our hair and water and keep our hair braided up and it just grew....but now its sooo much to learn now I'm confused 😕 so went back to grease lol but luv your channel 💓
