GoPro Hero 12 - How to Shoot in LOW LIGHT Settings Guide
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- Here are my best settings for shooting in low light on the Gopro Hero 12. Admittedly, Gopro still doesn't look great in low light, BUT there are ways to improve the image quality.

If I need to buy a 'Gimbal' I might as well save my money and get a better camera. I bought a GoPro Hero Black so I didn't need to fork over more money and drag a gimbal on all my trips.
Exactly. I retuned my GoPro and got the DJI purely because I want stabilisation at night
I'm using INKEE Falcon Plus with the same setting. However, if I don't have a gimbal with me, I'll set my video to 5.3K (8:7), shutter 1/120, ISO Min Max 800, and hypersmooth on. It comes out dark, but if you use the Quik app to increase exposure, shadow, and highlight, it works like magic.
Thanks for the tip!
How about the camera what is the best settings in taking picture thank you so much
Iso over 400 is too noisy? Is the in camera noise reduction terrible?
Great info, but I do have to ask if your lens was clean in that demo footage. There seems to have been a huge amount of flaring around parts of the image.
Also the rule of "shutter speed should be double your frame rate" is only really valid for film cameras with a physical shutter. When it comes to digital, shutter speed only controls motion blur as you don't have rolling film stock.
Thanks for the great vid
Great comparison for the settings and super informative! Love that section around log settings in the Hero12 too
Remember guys, REDUCE YOUR FRAME RATE. You’ll get better results in low light with a LOWER frame rate. This is because with a lower frame rate each frame gets more time and access to the available light.
So at 24fps, 24 frames share the available light each second. Whereas with 60fps you’ve got 60 frames sharing the same amount of light each second. Therefore each frame is brighter at 24fps.
But 24fps may not be too smooth, so try 30fps.
This is also true for resolution. At 1080p, the amount of pixels needing to be lit is lower meaning each pixel can get more available light compared to 4K. At 4K there are far more pixels that need to share the limited amount of light available.
Interesting. Thanks for the tips.
so the shutter speed would move to 1/60?@@Gemini_Connect
My go pro 12 has no Log option only standard and hdr what shoul I do thank you
Nice video. Thanks 👍. You recommend using a gimbal, right? But what happens if we have the camera on a chest mount for example or on our head with a head strap or attached to a helmet? Thanks again!

Great tips, thank you. I'll be on vacation visiting a lot of cool places. The weather seems to be sunny. What videos setting works best for sunny days? I have the Hohem gimbal, should I use it walking around? I will visit places like Rome, Pompeii, Venice, Greece, Croatia. I appreciate any tips.
Thanks for the settings. A question arose about the IRL stream. Are there ways to show an overlay (chat, donations) during a broadcast?
Will the gimbal work with the media mod fitted,
Interesting. So a gimbal is used for stabilization (especially in low light), yet you have to practice a 'ninja walk' to control bounce.
Thanks for taking the time to upload!
Thanks for the tips. I've been shooting outdoors with my 12 Black and late into the afternoons, the footage seems really bad quality. I'm using Standard, 1080 and the camera is on a tripod too. It almost seems blurry or out of focus.
I've now set it to 4K, Log mode, hypersmooth disabled and hope this will make a big difference because I'm getting fed up with the GP 12 after only 1 month. the image quality seems really bad. Almost wishing I had bought the Insta 360 Pro instead.
I'm only filming community cleanups too, nothing crazy, no fast paced action... Hopefully this will help and I can brighten things up in post in Filmora hopefully.
Using my Hero 11 with Labs, I've had great success setting bitrate to 200 (sdcard is Sandisk 512GB Extreme Pro), Noise Reduction 50, 5.3k 30fps linear plus horizon level, 4:3 aspect. This works well for both daylight and low light situations. I think the high bitrate makes the biggest impact.
I like noise reduction 0 and stabilization Off, using gyroflow to stabilize in post, wide lens 5.3k 30 :) But i still use a gimbal for low light, the jitters are annoying.
That’s a great point, thanks for the tip!
Thanks for sharing your low light settings for the Hero 12.
Hi I would have thought high sharpness would make your video ie people sharper why does low sharpness make sharper video in low light?
It’s better to add the sharpness in post….gopro does a terrible job adding sharpness in camera and makes it noisy
Thanks for keeping it short and simple
Thank you for the video.👍 I stabilised my gopro clipps with gyroflow. It a free software. Its make fotage with gimbal more softer.
Thanks for the tip!
This is why I'm waiting for the DJI OSMO Pocket 3 for that 1" sensor and mechanical gimbal, should destroy the GP12 in lowlight
osmo 3 or pocket 3
@@deepakdinkarshinde Sorry I ment Pocket 3
Nice video, and music.
Very informative video Thank you
Came here too improve my night footage for my gopro. An action camera BTW. Got told to use a gimbal. Yea let me just put that on my helmet
GoPro is not ideal to use in low light. DJI and Insta360 action cameras are much more suitable for low light shooting.
thank you so much
Brilliant, thank you for your help.
Wow this is owesome🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
does log in hero 12 is limited to iso 400 ? so in hero 11 golab logb =400 will be similar ?
Log on the Hero 12 limits iso to 400. Not sure about if you enable via Labs on other cameras. But IMO the noise gets really bad when you’re up at ISO 800 or higher anyway.
When I record on my 12 during the day I can barely see past my motorcycle for how bright it is outside how do I fix that?
Turn the screen brightness up
Hello - look again and again with pleasure at your channel.Super advices and suggestions 👍
Many thanks for it!
Best greetings from Germany André
Awesome Video!! 🤩 Definitely needed this for upcoming “Trunk & Treat” Car Shows this month! 🚘 🍭 👻
Question is gopro 12 or dji osmo 4?? I want to buy one of them but i cant decide as i already had gopro 11 but i want to know if the dji osmo is better
I purchased the DJI first and it was great to record with and the quality was brilliant. But, it was really hard to load the app on my phone and the process of getting footage off the camera was overly complex and not well designed. So I've brought a GoPro but I'm now watching videos on low light settings because the quality sucks.
@@SpikeSpiegel-3859 i have no problem with download the fotage from camera and im happy with my os4 and never look back at gopro i dont know but for me is the best
Nice 👍👍👍
I would use 24 fps in low light instead of 60 fps especially if all you are doing is walking. As for stabilization, digital image stabilization was always inferior to optical which is why pro grade equipment doesn't use it. Gyroflow software would be best for GoPro users not wanting to use a gimbal since it allows you to add the stabilization later using the gyro sensor data that your GoPro records. If you are going to do all that editing with log and gyroflow though, I would just use a different camera which will yield better results and not have the bugs and reliability issues of a GoPro. GoPro image stabilization is the best out there on a bright sunny day but when the sun goes down it just falls apart.
Good One Mam
Great video. But to be honest this and the OA4 are dire for lowlight. One sucking less than the other.
I agree that neither are ideal for low light, but people keep asking for low light settings 🤷♀️
I'm waiting for dji pocket 3.
The title got me confused, can’t we have a video showing settings without a gimbal.
Would be the same settings with or without a gimbal. But if you don’t use a gimbal, your footage will be extremely shaky - there’s no getting around that.
@@Gemini_Connect Hello. Nice video. You know that many use a Go Pro as POV. Could you tell me how I could configure the Go Pero Hero 12 if I use it on a Chest Mount? Thanks again.
First, film in 24 fps when it's dark.
buy a gimhle... cool. got it.
Or don’t move when filming in the dark.
The video turned out great, thank you. Unfortunately, the GoPro is a crappy shit camera with many flaws. I will never buy a GoPro product again.
😂😂😂 нужен стабилизатор😂😂😂 если есть стабилизатор нужно просто отключить стабилизацию на камере и качество станет хорошим.
