Omg! thank you so much. I going to travel soon and this video helps me with mi new gopro. I had a 15 pro max but i love the comfort of filming with the Hero 12 (i'm shy)
Just snagged the 12 upgrade from Hero 9 Blk. Excited to get out there and get some footage. I always confuse my FPS so 30FPS and 60 for active and anything above 60FPS is for slower motion but 24 is for Cinematic?? So confusing .
I ususally skip two or three iterations of the devices that come out yearly. I was hoping for a bigger sensor, but when I compare the results of the Action 4 for low light video, and consider my usage of the action camera at night, the Hero 12 makes more sense, at least to me. But I also like to wait; in a few months, we should see the first holiday incentive discount. I currently have the Hero 9, having no issues with it at all. Thanks, Media, for this video.
Thank you for the tutorial. I was wondering if you have a tutorial on taking pictures of the night sky and northern lights, what should the Hero 12 settings be. Everyone has such different opinions and I would like your thoughts. thanks
I use my Hero 12 exclusively for kayak fishing and is mounted out of arms reach. I have unlimited external power and use The Remote to control and activate record on my Gopro. When using HINDSIGHT in say 30 sec intervals will it keep looping every 30 seconds or do you have to start recording within the first and only 30 seconds? Do you have to manually restart Hindsight everytime you want to utilize it? If it would be continuous all do would make for the best setting for my use case. Thanks in advance and thank you for your very informative videos !!!
This is absolutely what I needed. I was becoming a bit overwhelmed with the many options with no clear understanding of which to use and why. Thank you very much!

Just bought a Hero 12 - happy to donate as very clear and helpful. Thank you! I’ve been photographing since the mid 1970s and videographing since mid 1980s so I’m clear on usage and terminology, but GoPro is quite different so it’s great to get, not only instruction but, also, suggestions! My use will mostly be non-action as such, but on boat, in water, vacation, etc., so I want to know your thoughts on Linear v/s Linear+? Are there many situations where auto horizon level is not preferred? Does it use a lot more space and battery? Also, as my TV is 4K, what benefits are there for me to shoot 5.3K? Cheers 👍👍👍
The 5.3K on the Hero12 simply looks much better than 4K (in good lighting conditions) - even on a 4K monitor. Linear is fine for most situations - but it leads to a relatively strong crop - so it depends if you need a wider field of view. Same goes for L+. Underwater I would prefer the FOV Wide.
Hi i watched your video and as an expert on gopro can you please give me recommended settings to video while driving facing front view then viewers can enjoy scenaries and best place to set up ( on dash board / outside of car bonet / windscreen ) thanks
Thank you for the detailed video. I just got my first gopro. And want to capture the adventures that I am going on after getting out of the military.. 20 years later I am ready to record it.
Hi! Thank you very much for all the clips about GOPRO!!! They are really useful!!! I have a question: is there any setting by which it does not close in color - so that the screen does not go black after a few seconds? It's unpleasant to keep touching the screen while filming, to see what I'm doing.......
I have the latest versions of updates and I do it as you do, in the graphics settings through continuous video settings, but how to get to Protune, I do not have all available options unlocked, how to do it
@@MountMediaChannel i was thinking puting the camera on my helmet, on top, and I saw that gopro max has better mic, i plan to record videos in 1080p/24/30fps. Just to capture some cool moments with it
When I shoot video I am skiing. I have been shooting in 1080p @ 60fps. I want to try 4K @ 24fos… the action will look faster. Shooting in 60fps looks great… it also looks slow. Am I wrong to think this? Great video 😊
Hi, 4k at 60fps or 5.3k at 60fps for moto logging? Also, wide, super view or hyperview? I ride a motorcycle and have a travel UA-cam channel. Thanks in advance 🙂
Wow! Thank you for this. This is exactly what I needed. I'm gonna take a day trip to Kyoto, Japan and I'm gonna take my GoPro Hero 12 with me. My settings are: 16:9 Linear w/Horizontal Leveling 5.3K Natural Color Medium Sharpness I just have one question. I don't really do color grading because I think the image should look good straight out of the camera. Will 10-bit color still have an effect on my videos?
Thanks for the video. Everyone proposes to use flat / log profile and than do colour grading for GoPro clips for MTB in post. However if I only want to use the quick app is it worth the effort or will there be no difference since the colour grading in the app is very basic? Thanks and greeting to South Tyrol
Hi Daniel, to be honest I haven't tried color grading in the app as I always edit the videos on my Mac. But in general I'm not such a big fan of flat/log on the GoPro - I hardly see any decisive advantages in practice. You might have a slight advantage in terms of dynamic range if you use log. The standard GoPro colors also look very good.
I'm so excited to get out on the slopes this year. These setting suggestions will help take the guesswork out and save me a lot of time and aggravation. Much appreciated.
My go pro 12 footage is terrible. Worse than go pro 7 in the exact same street location. Too dark, blurry. I used 1080 with wide screen ( lens mod 2.0) horizon levelling on, stabilization on. Sharpness at low. Min iso 100, max 3200. Natural colour. 30 frames. What am I doing wrong? I need to do a ton of post processing to even get decent colour levels.
The biggest advantage of the 8:7 mode is i can use it with Gyroflow, Gyroflow uses the same algorithm as Reelsteady Go 2, and because of the 5,3K the files dont lose quality after cropping and streching with gyroflow.
Thank you for the great video. You mentioned an interesting point about the pal-region at 50hz. Based on your footage and accent I assume you are in Europe, so therefore you'd be using 50hz and be shooting at 50 and 100 fps rather than 60 and 120? It seems so odd tbh because nobody every talks about European frame rates. And shouldn't it really only make a difference if you are filming under artificial light? When I try this in my house, i do not notice a difference at all, i.e. no light flickering. I am confused on this point. I have been filming for years in American settings even though I should have been using European settings. But now I don't see the point of switching over....
Yes, that's right - I usually shoot in 25 fps. There are indeed situations and lights where it makes a difference - but I myself am considering whether I should definitely switch to NTSC and 30fps.
@@MountMediaChannel So I have done a bit more testing on this - it does actually work, but it really seems to depend on the light you are filming under. My office does not have this issue, but the kid's bathroom flickers really bad for example. It also seems to become more of an issue the higher the framerates are. But as soon as it sets antiflicker to 50hz, it disappears. So yeah it really works, and it is quite easy just to switch over whenever it is a problem, i.e. you are filming in the wrong room indoors. Otherwise, I am just setting it back to standard US frame rates for my typical outdoor filming.
i think firmware update changed alot since this video was posted. I too noticed somethings are off or in different locations. like the HDR profile i dont see. and pro setting is in the preferences and not from video selection like in the video.
The reasons I bought this is because the Insta360 X3 looks terrible, I need a POV camera for my professional shooting, and it was on a crazy B&H sale with no tax and included a $120 bundle for free. I had the Hero 7 Black back in 2019 and that junk overheated. Let's see how this thing holds up. If it overheats again, I'm returning it and never giving these people another chance and trying something else. I'm assuming it won't overhat shooting 4K at 24fps because that should be a breeze for this camera. I remember shooting 4K at 24/30 was pushing the 7.
@@luviosss So, it still overheated but that was shooting at max settings continuously, in a warm setting, but it took about 20 minutes before it did. However, at 24fps it holds up. The image quality is superb in semi-lit to well-lit conditions. Low light performance is, IMHO, underwhelming, but this isn't why I got this camera. Stability is amazing. Color quality is on par with my professional gear. Battery life is just under 1 hour on max settings with the high capacity battery. The video recorded, doesn't match a mirrorless with a prime lens, which technically isn't fair to compare, but the video quality isn't very far off. I consider the picture quality similar to the newer cell phones, but a little better in certain conditions. If you do consider one, wait for a sale.
gopro is tested to ruggedness the material we used in the case is polycarbonate and aluminum, it normally gets hot outside because it is designed to release the heat inside the unit to cool the micro processor to extend the life of the circuit. we often use it in cycling events and just recently accidentally fell off the road with the bicycle and was run over by a ford raptor but it was not damaged. the rear LCD, lens protector is broken but still works fine. we replaced it again with an LCD protector so it can be used again in cycling race.
