    Great Video!
This is why I love the way how Ring makes everything so easy in the app. Is Motion Warning comparable with the other cams?

@Dr. Surreal I didn't think I did anything special. I originally set everything up to record to the SD card, but when the playback didn't work I ejected the SD card and switched them off of edge recording. Bingo bango bongo it worked.

Edge "recording" is USELESS for me! 99% of the time it shows you the first 10sec and then disconnects! That's pretty worthless for ANYONE! I've tried different SD cards and different sizes with NO success with the Edge option!

    • @LifeHackster

Yes, it works when you physically remove the micro SD card, Thanks for the info @The Hook Up ...if you just toggle OFF local recording on the camera's settings or turn it off on the enrolled cameras in the Alarm Pro's settings, then the camera will not work or unavailable, so it is a bug that Ring needs to address. Also, the Amcrest still has the freezing issue in the footage even with cloud recording.

I was not big on using this until I found that ring now allows human motion detection to be an event within Alexa. However using the ring connected to my Lorex onvif cameras has been painful at best. I have the cameras set to 1080P H.264 and the live view is not that live. Everything is connected to a POE so wireless should not be an issue here. Ring will connect then freeze. It will sometimes jump 10-20 seconds almost like it cannot handle the video streaming. Human events captured is just as painful. It will show 2-3 seconds of the recording then freeze. I really want this to work as Lorex does not support triggered events in Alexa but so far not too reliable for me. Thanks for the video.

I’ve had a Ring Security System (2nd gen) for a year and don’t really like the security cameras. The alarm system has worked perfect and reliably, but the cameras have the worst video quality (spotlight cam) and disconnect once a month from the ring chime pro range extender they are connected to. That means I have to get up on a ladder and press the button to reset the camera once a month to connect it to the range extender, which needs several attempts to get connected. Also the doorbell (wired) works ok, but the image quality is also terrible. Overall, they need better video quality and shouldn’t require us to press a button on the security cameras to reconnect them, because usually security cameras are placed in hard to reach areas.

I too was having issues with the Ring Chime Pro where WiFi signal was getting REALLY low after 3weeks and I would just unplug and restart the Chime Pro. I never had to "reset" any cameras though I just cut the power to the Chime Pro and restarted it. I have (2) cameras on the Chime Pro as they are far away from the my router and I if I remember I only had to "reset" one camera just once in over 2years of usage. Lately I do not seem do be having this issue anymore as maybe this has been fixed? You can't review when a "device" upgrades it's bios/firmware as the app. only tells you that you are up to date.

All the same issues using amcrest cameras with my ring pro. Video always freezes, won’t do cloud recording, and once the sd card is full it’s not overwriting old clips. I talked to ring a few weeks back and they stated they weren’t aware of these issues.

  • @lars2k1

Ring should be supporting onvif on their cameras instead, so people won't get locked in the subscription based system that basically makes the hardware useless if you decide to stop that subscription.

Right? I have a 16 channel tri-brid DVR that will record a IP cam from another country. But yet I cant record before it goes to Ring. This is Info I pay to send out to ring, Mind you.. so they can miss the important stuff like to scooters getting stolen on separate occasions. Both time they were within 5-6 feet of the camera . But yet manage to record video of a mouse running across side walk?? or cars going down the street 10 feet further than the bikes were.
I would still pay to have the doorbell function that the (Amazon drivers ) can't even learn how to ring the bell anyway. As well as the notification side of it. but I want to save them storage space and store the constant footage locally on my IP DVR.
What is sad is the Geenie doorbell does everything WITHOUT a fee at all. Not local storage but. (Of course there is a premium subscription) It is just choppy though.

Are you able to get snapshots with this? I have the Amcrest camera currently working with the Ring app, but if I go to the timeline, I only see motion events or when I clicked on Live View. I have motion detection enabled and snapshots enabled for once every 1 minute. I'm not sure if it is something that I have to setup on the Amcrest side since it is not triggered as a motion event to Ring.

I have my ring pro set up with local storage but it is inconsistent with retaining data. Sometimes the ring pro will capture footage but then the ring pro will say it cannot process footage and all the locally captured footage becomes corrupt. It's a new 256G card.

NOT have good luck with the Ring Edge recording! 99% of the time it only shows you 10sec of video and "disconnects"! I only have Ring indoor cams pointed outside behind the glass and one doorbell 3+ cam and the issue was occurring on ALL cams! I have switched back to the cloud for events as the Edge feature SUCKS for me. I like the fact that Ring is "opening" up their options and should only improve in the future. The thing that concerns me the MOST is the new "MATTER" standard that almost ALL vendors will be switching over to soon. I think this is really going to cause MAJOR problems with security systems and whatever home automation setup you may be using. I'm hoping that most of my current devices will NOT have to be replaced due to this "switch". Ring has been really silent on this issue as well as other vendors!

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  2 роки тому

Yes, it is not reliable at this time. Cloud recording is still better. We will see how these companies will adjust when the Matter standard comes around.
