Who is the one who changes his destiny? Is it an individual self?
In the final truth there is nothing seperate that could change anything. Relatively it looks like one can achieve Nibbana, but in final truth there is noone to decide or change.
Or what is it that decides?

The question relates to relative appearances and not the ultimate truth. If the liberation was spontaneously arising then there would be no need to apply one self to virtue and the remedies to suffering. As clearly we don't go to bed at night and wake up spontaneously Buddha, the question should be "why isn't liberation self arisen for us when the ultimate truth or natural state is primordially present?"
In the Buddha Dharma there is no individual to call a self, and the variety of experiences of the mundane world arise out of fundamental ignorance that is the notion that this self does indeed exist. And so to get rid of our delusion we need to get rid of self clinging and clinging to appearances. And that is why all spiritual practice is about eradicating our clinging.
Now there are infinite methods for coming to realise the truth of no self, but one needs to find the method that will be effective in getting rid of one's own clinging. And those who merely upon hearing the words "everything s empty" achieve liberation are rare rare as daytime stars.
Further I have to add that in the context of the Buddha Dharma at least, whereas the notion that everything is the responsibility of God or infinite consciousness can go a long way to reduce self clinging, ultimately this notion itself is a form of clinging to reality and so can never lead to ultimate awakening.
Still most of us never get anywhere close to eradicating our self clinging let alone our clinging to phenomena so it is still a valid remedy to a lot of worldly woes.
Thanks for sharing your ideas and doubts

@@Quaterzau There has been an ongoing misunderstanding (wrong view) about the Buddha's teaching on "anatta". Everbody thinks there is no self at all.
Anatta does not mean there is no self. Anatta means "not-self" or "non-self" referring in contrast to the then widespread Old Indian concept that there is a fixed, unchanging, permanent soul that reincarnates from life to life. To such, that is "not-self". Nothing is permanent and unchanging.
The Buddha acknowledges that there "is" a self (in relative sense) and that is our body. But he also taught that this body exists by the joining and working together of its 5 aggregates, where if these 5 aggregates wear out, there is no more self (absolute truth).
If there is no self or individual at all (like most Zen students misunderstood), then why did the Buddha exhorted people to realize the 4 noble truths and follow the 8fold path? Who then is exhorted to follow the path if there is no self at all? That self is the "relative-sense" of self, where in reality is "not-self" (this is realized upon awakening).

Especially a Christian-style god, which is actively opposed by the evidence in the natural world! Unless you ascribe traits to god that make it impossible to test whether it exists or not, it doesn't seem likely. At any rate, doesn't seem necessary, and definitely seems psychological, with needy people more likely to believe in it.

Karma is a action that create trauma and ama. Someone hits or hurts someone it causes trauma so they hit them back most often or you eat certain foods that create disease that causes suffering and ama. Keeping people in a fight or flight mode response creates trauma to mind, emotions and body. It's tough in the world at this point to stay in a peaceful mind and always take the right actions.

Lord Buddha was clear on this point. He did not deny the existence of a so called "Creator God". But on the issue of that being having created the universe, and assuming they aren't lying - that they are in fact deluded. My guess, based on Buddhist scripture, is that "He" simply can't remember how it all happened, and so assumes "He" himself created it all. Lord Buddha also hinted that many of the gods and devas are probably quite insane by human standards, and not particularly helpful. Finally, Lord Buddha was crystal clear, no being created it all.
He does go on, and in various scriptures - to describe how everything comes to be. For me, that idea crystalizes in Vajrayana Buddhism and Quantum Physics. Similar ideas are taught by various Buddhist teachers I have followed. It goes something like this....
Think of Time and Emptiness as fields. When/where those fields collide, they turn inside out. Time turns back on itself (recurses) and becomes conciousness. Emptiness turns back on it self (recurses), and becomes the quantum field - a near infinite number of possibilities.
You are one of those possibilities.
I do not believe that Awakening will lead to apathy for how bad our world sucks. I just don't. And I don't believe Awakened beings won't desire and do things to make this current world a little better. If I did, I most definitely would not seek transcendance.
I will keep trying to save as many sentient beings as I can, in my case - as many dogs as I can. Mostly because all the other critters and humans seem to get quite a bit more compassion. A dogs life, right? I want to make them experience total happiness.
Good on you Lama Choga, pointing out once again the obvious - transcendance should not turn you into an un-feeling zombie. The world does suck, and it's on you to help change that.

One has to include the consciousness behind the conscious.
You may call it the subconscious, either way, to be mindful of the awareness behind being aware should also be tested in quantum theory. Mind is ALL and All is Mind. We test this on humans all the time both consciously and subconsciously.
Results may depend on the mental strength of an individual and the emotion put into the intention, luckily most are not equipped for such things. And this day and age in the western world the Will is severely under developed.

There are only two answers to : if God didn't make the universe then where the hell did everything come from: 1: It all came from hell. Or 2: It always was. And 3: Just think of God as the caretaker of the building called life. Or 4: Just be God like, but turned back to front: a Dog - who is happy 'cos he just enjoys life. Besides - if we are eternal and always reincarnate we do have to have puzzles we can't answer to ponder for the whole of eternity. Don't fuss over what you believe - just believe, in the moment, the idea that brings you what you want, in that same moment. And that is always something that is immediately available to you: a sleep, a good movie, a walk, a bath, a dog to pat, and it doesn't even have to be yours. And mate: sex is sacred and necessary for robust health.

Thank you for this video! Regarding the state of the world and how to use one’s freewill to alleviate suffering, can you please comment on the Buddhist concept of the three ages of the dharma? If it was, for instance, the latter days of the dharma or the so-called degenerate age, doesn’t that imply that the world’s level of consciousness is cyclical and inescapable and is therefore resistant to change?
I ask because I’ve made some study of the world’s eschatological traditions. Maybe not all Buddhists believe in the ages or cycles so I’d like to hear your beliefs. There’s a quote I jotted down attributed to the Buddha when asked about the final age. I don’t know if this is apocryphal, but I’ll attach it as a reply to this comment. Would really love to know your perspective regarding freewill versus the teachings on ages of the dharma.

“The venerable Subhuti asks the Buddha, ‘Bhagavan, will there be any beings in the future, in the final epoch, in the final period, in the final 500 years of the dharma ending age, who will give birth to a perception of the truth of the words of a sutra such as that which is spoken here?’”
The Buddha says, “Subhuti, do not ask a question like will there be any beings in the final epoch who give birth to a perception of the truth of the words of a sutra such as that spoken here? Surely, in the future there will be fearless bodhisattvas who are capable, virtuous, and wise, who give birth to a perception of the truth of the words of a sutra such as that spoken here. Indeed, Subhuti such fearless bodhisattvas will have honored not just one Buddha, and they will have planted auspicious roots before not just one, but such fearless bodhisattvas will have honored countless hundreds and thousands of Buddhas, and they will have planted auspicious roots before countless hundreds and thousands of Buddhas. In the words of a sutra such as that spoken here, they are sure to gain perfect clarity of mind.’”
“The Tathagata knows them, Subhuti, by means of his Buddha knowledge. And the Tathagata sees them by means of his Buddha vision. The Tathagata is aware of them, for they all produce and receive a measureless, infinite body of merit.”
      “‘And how so?’
‘Because Subhuti, these fearless bodhisattvas do not create the perception of a self, nor do they create the perception of a being, a life or a soul. Nor do these fearless bodhisattvas create the perception of a dharma, much less the perception of no dharma. Subhuti, they do not create a perception, nor no perception.’”

@jonmustang Great question and comment! Thank you for posting this! In my opinion (not sure how much that counts for😊), it seems to me the Buddha is showing us that a fearless Bodhisattva will remain free of fixation and remain in a state of emptiness and transcendent compassion, perhaps this is the place Bodhisattvas will benefit beings best in the degenerate age. As Lama la says, outcomes are dictated by karma, cause and effect. Subtle factors make big shifts in outcomes, too. So, perhaps Bodhisattvas by virtue of their lack of generating any negative karma and being a well spring of positive karma and auspiciousness they will impact the outcome of all sentient beings in a positive way. I hope the Lama corrects me, if I'm wrong. ❤🙏🙏🙏
I'm also going to add that this is why we, as Dharma practitioners, should repeatedly and often generate Bodhicitta. With every we do, we should remind ourselves to benefit all beings with our body, speech, and mind.
I'd ask the questions, what the does idea of a final epoch mean in the face of ongoing samsara/cyclic existence, which is by all accounts generated by endless ignorance? Does it mean something else will come to replace it? Or is it a conceptual fallacy on the ultimate level? Will ignorance ever cease to exist? The Prajnaparmita Sutra is good to contemplate for this, I think.
"Therefore, Shariputra, in emptiness there is no form, no feeling, no discrimination, no formation, no consciousness; no eye, no ear, no nose, no tongue, no body, no mind; no form, no sound, no smell, no taste, no tangible object, no phenomena, no eye dhatu (dhatu means building block that makes up the physical body) up to no mind dhatu, no dhatu of phenomena, no mental consciousness dhatu; no ignorance up to no termination of ignorance..." This seems to be a key to realizing that these are all appearances and they are generated by karma, cause and effect. Again, I hope the good Lama will correct me if I'm seeing this erroneously.

Many say that we have already entered the age of degeneration. But there are many ages of degeneration, they go in cycles and these cycles are primarily dependent on the appearance of a teacher (so this could apply to any spiritual tradition)
A teacher appears and spreads the dharma and this influences others. It is like dropping a peddle into the lake. The ripples spread out over time but eventually lose their energy and then fade away. we can see even a year after the Buddha passed their were doubts about exactly what he taught, so naturally after nearly 3 millennia the power of the Buddha's speech (the primary means of sharing his realisation) has diminished.
Also nothing is predetermined because experience is personal and as the Buddha taught is made from karma (of body speech and mind)
Thank you for your insightful comments

Hello friend, it is as stated. Apparent reality is created by our karma and because of this "reality" is 1. subjective", and 2. illusion-like. The Buddha taught that there is no substantial reality to be created and so the notion of a creator is essentially flawed.
Having said that, there is a further question "Why is there something rather than nothing?" An answer for which can not be satisfactorily accommodated by religion or science. After years of contemplating this issue in retreat my conclusion is that the Middleway philosophy of the Buddha Dharma can. The problem is that we cling to our preconceptions about the ontological truth so strongly we can not accommodate this truth.
Thanks for participating in the discussion

The meaning is that we create our own illusion and will continue to do so until we drop our clinging to false reality. The question "where did everything come from?" Is predicated upon the notion that there is something substantially existent.
The example from the scriptures is someone waking up from a dream about their unborn son Dorje having died, and then thinking ""Its ok Dorje didn't die" of course he was never born

    Dear sir,
For me, the idea of Karma would indeed be easy to accept if it simply had to do with recognizable and uncontroversial causation--such as is exemplified by your examples involving persons in rooms and on buses and so on. Karma is difficult to buy, for me at least, because it seems to suggest that those who cause suffering are bound to suffer themselves (as a consequence of causing suffering), whether in this life or the next. There is then an extended version of Karma that includes a suggestion of necessary reciprocity--a law of return even. I suspect this is the sticking point for many. For instance, imagine a demented individual who enjoys hurting and murdering. Imagine further that this person lives out his whole life hurting and murdering and is never impeded or caught--he dies of old age happy for what he had done and without remorse. What about causation says this is impossible? Do we then have to believe in reincarnation to believe that this man's Karma will eventually catch up with him?
I wonder if it is best for one such as me not to engage with this extended version of Karma since a more limited one suffices as a moral motivator and it is beyond my powers of perception and intellect to verify the extended one.
    Warm regards,
    T

Hello sir, whereas it appears that karma is such a force, what we understand from the Buddhist view from the mind only school and upwards is that subjective experience arises from habitual imprints in consciousness. So by that we understand there is no need for an impelling force that must span one life time to another, or likewise one world to another. Its just about conditioning.

A segment from 'Saved by the Light of the Buddha Within'...
My new understandings of what many call 'God -The Holy Spirit' - resulting from some of the extraordinary ongoing after-effects relating to my NDE...
Myoho-Renge-Kyo (Lotus Sutra) represents the identity of what some scientists are now referring to as the unified field of consciousnesses. In other words, it’s the essence of all existence and non-existence - the ultimate creative force behind planets, stars, nebulae, people, animals, trees, fish, birds, and all phenomena, manifest or latent. All matter and intelligence are simply waves or ripples manifesting to and from this core source. Consciousness (enlightenment) is itself the actual creator of everything that exists now, ever existed in the past, or will exist in the future - right down to the minutest particles of dust - each being an individual ripple or wave.
The big difference between chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo and most other conventional prayers is that instead of depending on a ‘middleman’ to connect us to our state of inner enlightenment, we’re able to do it ourselves. That’s because chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo allows us to tap directly into our enlightened state by way of this self-produced sound vibration. ‘Who or What Is God?’ If we compare the concept of God being a separate entity that is forever watching down on us, to the teachings of Nichiren, it makes more sense to me that the true omnipotence, omniscience and omnipresence of what most people perceive to be God, is the fantastic state of enlightenment that exists within each of us. Some say that God is an entity that’s beyond physical matter - I think that the vast amount of information continuously being conveyed via electromagnetic waves in today’s world gives us proof of how an invisible state of God could indeed exist.
For example, it’s now widely known that specific data relayed by way of electromagnetic waves has the potential to help bring about extraordinary and powerful effects - including an instant global awareness of something or a mass emotional reaction. It’s also common knowledge that these invisible waves can easily be used to detonate a bomb or to enable NASA to control the movements of a robot as far away as the Moon or Mars - none of which is possible without a receiver to decode the information that’s being transmitted. Without the receiver, the data would remain impotent. In a very similar way, we need to have our own ‘receiver’ switched on so that we can activate a clear and precise understanding of our own life, all other life and what everything else in existence is.
Chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo each day helps us to achieve this because it allows us to reach the core of our enlightenment and keep it switched on. That’s because Myoho-Renge-Kyo represents the identity of what scientists now refer to as the unified field of consciousnesses. To break it down - Myoho represents the Law of manifestation and latency (Nature) and consists of two alternating states. For example, the state of Myo is where everything in life that’s not obvious to us exists - including our stored memories when we’re not thinking about them - our hidden potential and inner emotions whenever they’re dormant - our desires, our fears, our wisdom, happiness, karma - and more importantly, our enlightenment.
The other state, ho, is where everything in Life exists whenever it becomes evident to us, such as when a thought pops up from within our memory - whenever we experience or express our emotions - or whenever a good or bad cause manifests as an effect from our karma. When anything becomes apparent, it merely means that it’s come out of the state of Myo (dormancy/latency) and into a state of ho (manifestation). It’s the difference between consciousness and unconsciousness, being awake or asleep, or knowing and not knowing.
The second law - Renge - Ren meaning cause and ge meaning effect, governs and controls the functions of Myoho - these two laws of Myoho and Renge, not only function together simultaneously but also underlies all spiritual and physical existence.
The final and third part of the tri-combination - Kyo, is the Law that allows Myoho to integrate with Renge - or vice versa. It’s the great, invisible thread of energy that fuses and connects all Life and matter - as well as the past, present and future. It’s also sometimes termed the Universal Law of Communication - perhaps it could even be compared with the string theory that many scientists now suspect exists.
Just as the cells in our body, our thoughts, feelings and everything else is continually fluctuating within us - all that exists in the world around us and beyond is also in a constant state of flux - constantly controlled by these three fundamental laws. In fact, more things are going back and forth between the two states of Myo and ho in a single moment than it would ever be possible to calculate or describe. And it doesn’t matter how big or small, famous or trivial anything or anyone may appear to be, everything that’s ever existed in the past, exists now or will exist in the future, exists only because of the workings of the Laws ‘Myoho-Renge-Kyo’ - the basis of the four fundamental forces, and if they didn’t function, neither we nor anything else could go on existing. That’s because all forms of existence, including the seasons, day, night, birth, death and so on, are moving forward in an ongoing flow of continuation - rhythmically reverting back and forth between the two fundamental states of Myo and ho in absolute accordance with Renge - and by way of Kyo. Even stars are dying and being reborn under the workings of what the combination ‘Myoho-Renge-Kyo’ represents. Nam, or Namu - which mean the same thing, are vibrational passwords or keys that allow us to reach deep into our life and fuse with or become one with ‘Myoho-Renge-Kyo’.
On a more personal level, nothing ever happens by chance or coincidence, it’s the causes that we’ve made in our past, or are presently making, that determine how these laws function uniquely in each of our lives - as well as the environment from moment to moment. By facing east, in harmony with the direction that the Earth is spinning, and chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo for a minimum of, let’s say, ten minutes daily to start with, any of us can experience actual proof of its positive effects in our lives - even if it only makes us feel good on the inside, there will be a definite positive effect. That’s because we’re able to pierce through the thickest layers of our karma and activate our inherent Buddha Nature (our enlightened state). By so doing, we’re then able to bring forth the wisdom and good fortune that we need to challenge, overcome and change our adverse circumstances - turn them into positive ones - or manifest and gain even greater fulfilment in our daily lives from our accumulated good karma. This also allows us to bring forth the wisdom that can free us from the ignorance and stupidity that’s preventing us from accepting and being proud of the person that we indeed are - regardless of our race, colour, gender or sexuality. We’re also able to see and understand our circumstances and the environment far more clearly, as well as attract and connect with any needed external beneficial forces and situations. As I’ve already mentioned, everything is subject to the law of Cause and Effect - the ‘actual-proof-strength’ resulting from chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo always depends on our determination, sincerity and dedication.
For example, the levels of difference could be compared to making a sound on a piano, creating a melody, producing a great song, and so on. Something else that’s very important to always respect and acknowledge is that the Law (or if you prefer God) is in everyone and everything.
NB: There are frightening and disturbing sounds, and there are tranquil and relaxing sounds. It’s the emotional result of any noise or sound that can trigger off a mood or even instantly change one. When chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo each day, we are producing a sound vibration that’s the password to our true inner-self - this soon becomes apparent when you start reassessing your views on various things - such as your fears and desires etc. The best way to get the desired result when chanting is not to view things conventionally - rather than reaching out to an external source, we need to reach into our own lives and bring our needs and desires to fruition from within - including the good fortune and strength to achieve any help that we may need. Chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo also reaches out externally and draws us towards, or draws towards us, what we need to make us happy from our environment. For example, it helps us to be in the right place at the right time - to make better choices and decisions and so forth. We need to think of it as a seed within us that we’re watering and bringing sunshine to for it to grow, blossom and bring forth fruit or flowers. It’s also important to understand that everything we need in life, including the answer to every question and the potential to achieve every dream, already exists within us.

Essentially, the universe is a manifestation of God's being, as it reflects all of creation that originates from the Creator. Therefore, one could argue that the universe has existed eternally, just as God has.

all action both gross (physical) and subtle (mental) is causative i.e. an effect of prior causes. But both cause and effect have no inherent existence, they are interdependent. The "self" that is making these apparent choices also is empty of inherent existence (svabhava). The present moment contains all of the past and all of the future in a compressed form. From within that hidden already existing compressed causative structure, which is wholeness, your limited relational view has emerged. When one side is illumined the other is dark. In flow there is no agent of action other than that wholeness.

You do these things for many reasons, which are too complicated to fully analyse. Although everything is predetetermined, it is too complicated to predict, unless you take a large number of people or things and use statistics. You choose because you cannot help choosing or your choices. There is no puppetmaster just causality. On a practical level, I think one should forget about all this, because it cannot usefully inform any decision you make. Just carry on and don't worry. This is the best I have come up with so far.

    Interesting.
And this is certainly a more rational, healthy, and productive way to define "Karma" than the magic-versions I've heard about.
Although, my understanding of cause-and-effect seems to be a little different than yours (?).
    I am a "determinist".
I'm also a "fatalist" in the sense that we can't deviate from whatever path pure physics demand.
However, the reason I look both ways before crossing the street is:
Physics dictate what I care about.
Physics insists that I look, by insisting that I care about not being killed (or worse).
There are many things and many people I care about.
    Physics insists.
    So then I act accordingly.
Thus, when I try (and when I succeed) in preventing or correcting a situation, I wasn't over-riding causality. I was merely part of causality. And that part was scripted for me by physics.
I'm not merely an actor on the stage.
I'm not even truly separate from the stage.
Nor am I separate from the other actors, nor from the floor, the props, and the air.
It/we are all integral happenings within a larger happening.
The actions which conscious-entities take to both cause and correct for imbalances are all just the larger living system balancing itself.

    • @ultimatemeaning
      @ultimatemeaning  14 днів тому +1

Yes I am also interested in Physics especially the frontiers where Physics and MetaPhysics meet. For example Quantum Physics shows us that the very fabric of the physical world exists in an indefinite state (superposition) and then very intelligent men are forced to guess (based on the assumption that classical reality is something definite) what mechanism causes waveform collapse. It is essentially the same leap of faith that spiritual practitioners need to make.
from the prospective of Buddhism it is more productive to look at the assumptions (for example the assumption that there is wave form collapse and the notion that this is predicated on "that observables had some fixed identity)

Right - but we have experiential evidence of spiritual things creating something from nothing - we create ideas, thoughts, we have imagination, empathy etc. but have no experiential evidence of physical things creating something from nothing. Laws of conservation prohibit that in the physical world / cosmos / samsara.
The only thing we know of in existence that can create from nothing is a spiritual thing.
That' means there is the possibility of a God creating something from nothing, while Buddhism has no similar argument for the possibility of samsara (the cosmos) creating itself from nothing or creating something else from nothing.
Therefore samsara must be infinite or circular - causing itself to exist or eternally existing, otherwise God gets out of jail free.

On the other hand, while his evidence comes from direct personal experience, - like the cogito is directly percieved as true - other indirectly apprehended experiential evidence (neuroscience) isn't exactly going to help proving there is a soul and free will - quite the opposite at the moment anyway - I think about 90% of them answer "no" to the question of a soul if pressed in a survey - I read that somewhere recently but can't remember where.

    @johnbolton292 14 днів тому +1

Your points aren't bad. I still will see things as predetermined in this universe. But my thoughts towards this universe are a matter of calculated probabilities. Nothing seems then to be coincidental and instead is set to occur, like the tides and the stars in the sky. I think that Buddha's teachings, like Jesus' teachings, like Confucius' teachings hold a core truth but were meant mainly for a given people at a given time, or at least a given moment in their development spiritually. It is not my choice as to moving you towards certain truths and away from other truths, but what I value in this existence is that I can communicate with you more directly and explain my own gear in the watch.
What I appreciate most from you is your aim and intention of moving some forward.
Now I believe things to be predetermined because in chemistry down to the smallest particles and even the wave forms without mass there is movement that triggers other parts to move and so on and so forth. In medicine, the chemicals in a mind and the electrons jumping from synapse to synapse follow the rules of those particles and waves they are comprised of. Therefore, my mind and body and words will be dictate of the actions that are certainly not fully understood with our current knowledge. I certainly believe in God and that God is free of our ridged movements as gears in the watch, but then it is only those who God resides in who have what might appear as freedom. God must reside in you because you seek peace, understand, enlightenment, and good will for others. I understand God to be strict about who he will reside in, or at least when he will reside in us. Some are free and some are trapped. All arevin motion and guided by the finiest waves.
Now, when it comes to probability, I don't believe that the actions of anything without God acts on its own, so the dice thrown in a game rely on you, but will fall exactly as they will in a predictable way. So, our current level of understanding in probability is not yet developed so certain things seem by chance.
I think keeping God with us can be challenging for many because we act on fleshly thoughts and brain chemistry. But then, if we are acting based on these chemicals made of waves moving and interacting in predictable paths, do we really have free will or are things predetermined? Without God, they are predetermined. With God, they themselves are fluid.

Herein lies an inner contradiction in the Vedic presentation that I have not as of yet found and answer to, and that is "how can Karma work if God is responsible for creating the UNiverse and everything in it?" Also "how can there be free will exist in such a universe?" and this likewise a point of contention for Christian theologians who do not all agree.

    • @strangecurrency
      @strangecurrency 15 днів тому +1

@@ultimatemeaning I don't know enough about the Vedic presentation to answer that question. But Swami Sarvapriyanada is a legit Advaita Vedanta monastic who also has some training in Buddhism, and he offers some food for thought in several videos. I'll link one below.
As for how free-will can exist in a universe created by an intelligent first principle, CS Lewis gives the Christian view here:
“God created things which had free will. That means creatures which can go wrong or right. Some people think they can imagine a creature which was free but had no possibility of going wrong, but I can't. If a thing is free to be good it's also free to be bad. And free will is what has made evil possible. Why, then, did God give them free will? Because free will, though it makes evil possible, is also the only thing that makes possible any love or goodness or joy worth having. A world of automata -of creatures that worked like machines- would hardly be worth creating. The happiness which God designs for His higher creatures is the happiness of being freely, voluntarily united to Him and to each other in an ecstasy of love and delight compared with which the most rapturous love between a man and a woman on this earth is mere milk and water. And for that they've got to be free. Of course God knew what would happen if they used their freedom the wrong way: apparently, He thought it worth the risk. (...) If God thinks this state of war in the universe a price worth paying for free will -that is, for making a real world in which creatures can do real good or harm and something of real importance can happen, instead of a toy world which only moves when He pulls the strings- then we may take it it is worth paying.”

Yes, some think all things are predetermined and they could argue that elections are also predetermined. Just by saying that what happens is meant to happen, rather they vote or not on either person which is based on their conditioning. That would be the outcome of that predetermination.
The only way someone can genuinely think all things are predetermined is if they feed the thought that there is interdependent existence. If one knows a cause the condition is predictable which would make the condition predetermined by the cause. By the nature of a ball being round and by your ability to push it moving it, naturally it will roll. The roundness of the ball making it a ball and your ability to move it are the conditions that will allow it to roll as balls do. That creates the sentence 'i rolled the ball', if it is not a ball that sentence cannot exist as an accurate means of social convenience, it would not be a ball.
All things that change are illusory. The only thing that can't change is truth, the nature of things.

Also this is not really a deep question in spirituality

Gods always changed with era region and culture. Gods were never static but temporary holders of the source code.

In physics matter and energy cannot make or direct themselves. So there was a time when matter and energy were made as well as time itself since time can’t exist without a great amount of matter. This means there was a time when time was made in the not too distant past. This shows that every physical thing is the result of the Creation.
Only your Creator can perfectly cover for you Himself and remake you again from the inside out by the power of His true word as no one else ever can. This is the only absolute truth in existence.

@@JungleJargon "in physics matter and energy cannot make or direct themselves... This shows that every physical thing is the result of the Creation" in term s of the Buddha Dharma this logic is based on the assumption that matter and energy are substantially existent or have fixed identity. Similarly the idea that there is waveform collapse (or bifurcation) is based on the notion that conventional reality has taken on substantial existence or specific identity. So if this assumption was incorrect then there would be no need for creation as such. Therefore creation isn't proven in his manner only possible.
So how do we determine if "something" is real or substantial? Well we need to investigate it, right? That's what we have been doing for centuries, at first with mortar and pestle and then recently by accelerating particles. So what are the results? Have we found substantial building blocks or finite constituents of matter and energy?
