This video coming out one day before Xenoblade X Definitive edition announced is very funny. Someone at MonolithSoft went “Oh Luxin just made an hour long Xeno video? Make him do it again”.
This is why I love MonolithSoft, not only do they make my favourite franchise, they are the backbone of so many crucial Nintendo games, and are now gearing up their technology which is crazy as they already have some of the most technical impressive software on the Wii/WiiU/Switch
Luxin stressing that this is probably last video on Xenoblade content for the year and that the previous video probably should've been the last one. Monolith Soft: "Are you sure about that!?"
@johnhoftb you realise arlo trashed ubisoft softand didn't need to being them up or remotely compare them to monolith soft right arlo only praised monolith soft and quotted a bunch of sources without actually understanding what monolith soft is saying meanwhile luxin actually goes in depth of what is going on
@@Sparksparky1 99% of people don't know who Monolith Soft is and is going to think like Arlo. Plus, he posted it on his second channel that is specifically for rambling his thoughts about video game news, so like a personal video journal, rather than an informative deep dive.
@ShallBePurified and this is one of many reasons why I don't like video game coverage on UA-cam atleast in terms of news and information a vast majority of it is either criticism towards the gaming industry and filled with people who want too see the industry get worse or people rambling about companies like monolith soft without understanding what their doing or what their overall goal is for future content
6:52 he's also credited in the JP voice direction in FC and Torna, however since he's the director he's still really involved in the voice acting, especially for important cutscenes for every game even though he's not credited as such. For example, Malos' JP VA had Takahashi as his voice director for every lines he had instead of Shigeru Chiba
Foliage in open world these days are most of the time procedural.. It's a renderring technique called GPU-instancing which allows even the weakest GPU to render blades of grasses in open world feasible. BotW/TotK and probably all the Xenoblades in Switch use them.
I'm really curious to see how much we're gonna hear about the R&D team at Monolith in the future, since they're making a big deal out of it (which it is).
Around 34:00 @Luxin here you are wrong, i learn this on a programming course of videogames i did recently, yes there is a visual component that it is part of it, but the effects can be types of targetting, close or long distance, etc. Basically every attack the character, it's a combinations of different effects, for XC3 they created the AOE buff effects, where if a characters enters it, it gets the buff or debuff that the area gives depending on if it's party member or enemy. Which is a combination of ground targetting, the effects of putting the AOE, the graphic it loads to mark it, and the animation to activate it and the buff or debuff it gives. And yes it's this kind of effects because they talk about setting them up through properties or nodes, this effects are premade and the developers are the ones that put them to use, some may create the effect that it produces, but the whole combination and smaller types are usually created with a wide array in mind, so the work of developing the abilities is less time consuming.
mf i was just gonna do homework i need done in a couple of hours and this hour long vid drops now thats gonna be one less hour i have to finish because i have no self control
"They're literally running out of time to say anything else before we actually find out anything about it." Nintendo: "No, YOU'RE running out of time."
Even when my favorite franchises like zelda, bayonetta, or pikmin fail me, it's always refreshing to see that xenoblade manages to keep its identity and development priorities in line.
It does seem to imply Monolith is doing or updating their own engine (like major update, not as much as bumping up versions and making sure they can "export to Switch format"). And I wonder why wouldn't they converge to the main Nintendo engine instead - after all, it'd also help with Monolith's assistance for other Nintendo games. I mean, you still need an engine team to bend the engine to your custom needs, but ModuleSystem is quite flexible, allowing a wide range of types of games, from Tears of the Kingdom to Splatoon 3 and Mario Wonder.
Switch 2 should be quite a bit more powerful, PS4/Pro power with a PS5 level architecture is how it's best described. Like how the Switch is pushing PS3 power with PS4 era architecture. The interesting thing is we don't really know what the limits of the PS4 Pro are, nobody ever really pushed that console in complex ways, they just upped the framerate and resolution. There were no exclusive titles. It's fair to say we could be seeing games much more impressive looking than last gen and with monolith's rich optimisation and innovation, we will be seeing some great stuff.
39:45 this makes me think about how whenever you go into the menu and out in Xenoblade 3 all of the minor environmental details like grass patches and shrubs or very small rocks get shuffled.

47:48 i'd say this stuff is common when it comes to software engineering rather than game development. in general monolith seems to be acting more like a software engineering company rather than a game development studio, as a lot of their best practices are things i at least hear about happening in the industry and that's probably a big reason why they're doing as well as they are
now that XCX is announced I guess next year we won't see a Switch 2 game from Monolith Soft. That means the second switch 2 Game is likely to use the new RnD Teams Engine. Also regarding Nintendo using other non-inhouse engines: I guess they have contracts with Epic for fortnite, switch support etc. and one of the conditions is that Nintendo produces X games using the unreal engine. Nintendo them selfs have benefits from doing this, since they can find out how unreal works and maybe what they can learn from it.
