- You know the drill.
This is the slow etude this year. I play it at about Eighth Note = 112. I play a B natural for the bottom note of the turn in measure 20.
Leave questions in the comments.
Happy Practicing!
This sounds like one of the 2022-2023 sax etude
Without a doubt, my favorite Rose etude. It is a perfect audition etude.
MUCH APPRECIATED THANK YOU! for this!
this sounds sorta like 2019-2020 region etude 2
Also, for the sixteenth-note sextuplets, would we accent the first, third, and fifth notes, the first and fourth notes, or only the first note in each sextuplet?
Do as printed. Accenting the hemiola (1,3,5) is relatively rare in classical music. You can almost always put weight on the first note of a sextuplet.
I hear the B natural in the turn also BUT in teaching is it does not indicate the Natural. So what do you do? Thanks Bob
I have notified TMEA of the mistake. It is up to them whether or not they want to release a new errata. I teach B natural to my students. In the case of judging, any judge who would deduct points for playing B natural shouldn't be judging in my opinion.
I agree. That is how i was taught also.
Also in m 38 i play it the way you do but the accdentials do not work the last beat.
Next to the last beat
Where do teach
Have you ever heard of the snugging the mouthpiece technique to avoid biting? Whenever I try it, I always end of squeaking. Also for the jaw, are you supposed to make your bottom teeth parallel to the top teeth, because I always squeak when I try to do that. What is your embouchure checklist that you mentally go through?
I've never heard of snugging the mouthpiece. Try playing double lip. Instead of putting your teeth on the mouthpiece, wrap your top lip over your top teeth. This almost always prevents biting.
Take a piece of paper and put it between the mouthpiece and reed. You should put your bottom lip where the paper meets the reed. Spend time with a mirror making sure that the shape of your embouchure is good and doesn't move. Eventually, you don't even have to think about it.
In this case, would high altissimo E-flat be using the fork-key fingering that is also used for a low B-natural? It would seem that way when going from E-flat to D.
Standard fingering for high Eb. I don't know which measure you are referring to for the B natural.
can you record himself playing slower please
Sorry, but these are how fast these etudes go. I believe UA-cam allows you to play them at half speed in the options.
How about playing these on Eb? ;)
what tempo are you going eric
Eighth note = 112.
Ok thank you
And also what tempo for the third etude
I can't remember, it's in the description of the video.
what notes do I trill for measure 17
Eb to F.
Thank you
Hey Eric, question! On those throat tone b flats, what fingerings did you use?
I put down oox oox F key.
how do i count sixtuplets?
Kurt Hutchison They become triplets assuming you count the entire etude in 8.
Eric Chi okay, thank you
It's there an easy fingering for measure 23??
The standard fingerings for that measure should work.
Okay, Thank you!!!
may I ask how do you do the transition from register Bb to throat tone Bb to register E in measure 8 because when I play it it comes out flat. I'm just asking how do you get them to sound so clean and clear is it something with your air being dense or is it a certain fingering your using for the transition in notes
also how do you do the groupetto in measure 20
Sorry, which measure? Measure 8 is the little cadenza.
Play a triplet on the upbeat of beat 5 (assuming you are counting in 8). The notes are D, C, B natural.
Just figured it out. You are misreading the second to last note in measure 8. It should be Bb, D, E.
Its the part of the song that has the chromatic scale starting at c# ending on c#(register)
what notes do i trill for measure 29?
Anarosa Aguilar G to A.
Eric Chi thanks
how do you make your b flats in tune
Are yours sharp?
Eric Chi sometimes flat (both flat and sharp)
Play them open if they are flat. Put down oox oox Low f key if they are sharp. Embouchure/tongue movement is also a problem if they fluctuate.
Eric Chi thank you!
1:58 me like
In measure 17, what note are you trilling to?
Trills always go up by one letter name, in the key. In this case, F.
In measure 20,for the turn is it supposed to be a B natural?
Yes, it was added to the errata.
Eric Chi what's a errata?
Basically a list of misprints or mistakes found in the etude. You can find it here:
