The early Ford electronic ignition stuff is weird and varies vehicle to vehicle. For instance your '83 F-250 has a magnetic pickup coil in the distributor and is carbureted with vacuum advance. I have an '83 Lincoln Mark VI, 302, fuel injected, no pickup coil, electronic advance, distributor is basically a hollow tube with the rotor. There's a crank position sensor in the side of the block that acts as a pickup coil. '80-'83 Lincolns and '83 Ford/Mercury had this set up. '79-'82 Ford/Mercury was 2 barrel with a similar set up to the trucks. '84-'85 was still throttle body injected but had a pickup coil and instead of the fender mounted ignition module it was on the distributor. '86+ was the sequential fuel injection. I always thought it was kind of funny Lincoln had fuel injection in 1980, and I've seen '91 Cadillacs with factory quadrajets. All full sized Fords had sequential injection by '86, and the Vortec engines didn't have true sequential injection until they did away with spider injectors in 2008!
You aren't the only one to be made a fool of by a vehicle, I've had plenty of cars make me an idiot. But, that's how I learned that it doesn't matter what make of vehicle a car is, they're all the same, and run the same way. You've earned another subscriber :-)
Enjoyed the video. It was good to see the step by step troubleshooting. I think a lot of the problem on the spark was probably the weak battery or bad wires or connectors, but anyway good stuff.
Great effort bro, nice old truck with a big donk, 460 you should rebuild the motor. I don't know about the USA but in Australia those.old effies lol are worth big money. Your grandpa's truck bro would be close to your heart, look after the old girl

My passed father's 1986 f150 300ci sat for 12 years..parked in 1999 under a barn... still have one of the tires on it from when I first got her...still holds air for months! All I did to get that truck running besides fresh oil/gas was fuel pump and a battery! Still driving the truck with 120,000 miles..love these trucks!
My pap had that same truck and it's the year I was born, if I were to ever build a Ford, it'd have something to do with one of them there. The Ol' grandparents were the ones that raised me since my parents were bluetooth
1983 ford f -250 sitting there for 15 years needs everything new battery clean up inside the truck new tires paint job awesome video friend bless you indeed
I’m not trying to tell you how to do what to do, but I found myself talking to the video. I think you were just not getting enough gas in the carb when trying to start the truck. 460’s use a lot of fuel and you were only getting it in to one or two cylinders. I found it best to try to fill up the bowls thru the vent and then let the carb do it’s thing. Good job getting it going and congrats on getting your grandpa’s truck going. I always enjoy driving my grandpa’s truck.
Man I think I over thought a lot of stuff on the truck but I tried every amount of fuel you could imagine. Tried filling the bowls twice. I had 4 days of recording I put in the video and it didn’t all get covered. I mean EVERY amount lol Now you can pump it twice and she’ll bust off. I’m just glad it’s done 😂😂😂 I wish she ran a little better 😂
@@PuddinsFabShop I just put a S10 back on the road. I put some sta bil in 5gal gas n the valves sound happier. Just saying. Puddin fab shop 40k comin rite up🙏😁👍
Love your channel bro and as a mechanic myself I can see you know what you are doing and I love the humor!! Keep it up and Happy New Year to you and your family...God bless you.
My grandpa died back in 94 but he had a 83 f-250 too. It's was the 300 straight 6 with a 3 speed with granny gear tho, had one of those big flat bug shield too, with a green little Kilroy peaking over the top. If u don't know who Kilroy is google "Kilroy was here" . He had a slide in camper with a trailer and we went to tractor shows too. He had 3 silver kings and a 1936 farmall F-12 and 2 john deere 110 lawn tractors that we used to drive around the flea markets and everything. I'm from Ohio and I haven't heard of anyone else mention or been to a tractor show in years.
That’s awesome! None of my family was into cars, they were into farming equipment. We may of took them to shows but grandpa used them year round working.
This is getting painful to watch. You're not giving it enough gas to start a lawnmower. A tank on the side of the fender with a hose to the fuel pump and that old Ford will be hauling ass.
I disagree. Filled bowls twice. Dumped every amount you could think of. 4 days of messing with it compressed into one video. If it would of ever hit I would of explained that I had filled the bowls or dumped a half the bottle in there but it never did. I do wish I would of hooked up the gas tank quicker.. And even after it runs. Well she still don’t haul ass. To everyone who thinks they would of poured the perfect amount and made it run well I tried it but did do a good job on the edit addressing that I definitely will in the future though!
@@PuddinsFabShop I wrote my comment when I was half way through the video. You got it right in the end. I think a carb kit would/will make a huge difference. As far as ether goes, I always have a couple cans around. Usually use it on old boat motors. Wonderful stuff.
I really wish I had footage of filling the bowls but I didn’t. Or when I tried from 1/8th of the bottle to half the bottle. I went out there the other day threw a battery in it pumped the carb twice and she busted off immediately. I learned a couple things on this one! It was also my first Ford. Never had a problem with chevys 😂
When the scene cut to you driving it up the hill toward the camera, I caught myself sitting here with my fist in the air. Thank gawd everyone was in bed or i might coulda been committed to an 'ol folks home. Not sure why exactly...I mean, I have an idea I recon but, not sure why I am so personally invested in some of these videos. Especially the ones where you are either talking about your grandpa or doing some shit (good shit) that I've done back in the day. You are killin it man. Laughed my ass off through this one...again! Thank you
Just bought an 83 f250 that didn't start me and 2 buddies got it to start after a couple hours of messing with it. It's a whole lot of fun to do it to. Can wait to start it as a project
@@PuddinsFabShop if you want to youll get er sqared away need to get the carburetor all redone get your ignition components straightened out make sure you ain't got no plugs that are fouling because of a valve guide or bad rings or whatnot make sure she's got compression and every cylinder and I'll tell you from experience depending on which way you want to go keep it all factory or maybe put an aftermarket cab on it of some kind or even a newer fuel injection system take that distributor and crank some initial timing in it up way high like time her by ear buzzer down the road and whale on the throttle until it pings and then back her off a tad I assure you it will liven her up like you wouldn't believe.... But on the other hand maybe a grandpop parked her for a reason maybe cuz she's got a few hundred thousand on her and is just spanked to the max anyhow though it's just fun to get them running again heck 20 years ago my dad threw together an old 340 for his 69 barracuda together with intention to take her to the drags a few times and go take it to emissions and get the title squared away and get it plated and what wound up happening was we took her to the drags off the trailer and went I think it was 11:30 which in around 1996 I think it was got the local track all in a buzz cuz it just had a lap belts no roll cage or safety equipment they was about to make us load it up so they could run us off and I said hey how about we just dial the throttle linkage back so it wouldn't get full throttle he said as long as we don't go any faster than 12 flat at the time they'd let us keep racing and so we did but we went to the track three or four more times wound up breaking the pressure plate now it's sat ever since again 20 something years few weeks ago I fired it up needless to say sure is fun with a 318.duration 600.lift mushroom flat tappit camshaft and the headers still open a virtual hornets nest of neighbors coming to investigate whats shaking their windows .... It's just something lovely bout doing that..... I'm watching your video inspired me I think it's time to go ahead and get her up in the air & put the new clutch disc and pressure plate in it because the car is an absolute riot to drive I imagine with some M&h racemasters & a good exhaust system the car probably run 10.50 normally aspirated so thanks for the inspiration it's about time to get out and terrorize North Phoenix with some Mopar music LOL... Thanks again have a good day and God bless

Love your old truck. Glad to see you save her. I have a 1986 F250 4X4 , 460 7.5L. Bought her new in 86. keep up the good work and may God bless. Richard
Reminds me of my dad’s blue bullnose, he was the 2nd owner and previous owner did a 5.0 swap and it was pretty badass sitting on old school star shaped prime wheels🙌🏽
FYI-this was back in like 08 I think
It was a lot of fun watching you work. I tried to start mine today, wasn’t lucky and I did tried ether. I’ll give another shot tomorrow.
Thanks for your video
Congratulations! I bet taking that first ride was all worth it.👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Absolutely!
Congrats puddin One thing fords like to do is fight!!! I’ve been battling mine for 6 months now. 🤬🤬🤬 but i won’t quit.
You’ll get her!
Same man I’ve got a bullnose and been working on her since august
You aren't the only one to be made a fool of by a vehicle, I've had plenty of cars make me an idiot. But, that's how I learned that it doesn't matter what make of vehicle a car is, they're all the same, and run the same way. You've earned another subscriber :-)
Enjoyed the video. It was good to see the step by step troubleshooting. I think a lot of the problem on the spark was probably the weak battery or bad wires or connectors, but anyway good stuff.
The battery started out strong every day It was weak from lot of cranking each time lol thanks for watching!
Great effort bro, nice old truck with a big donk, 460 you should rebuild the motor. I don't know about the USA but in Australia those.old effies lol are worth big money. Your grandpa's truck bro would be close to your heart, look after the old girl
At least you never have to worry about mosquitos with all that blow by
Best way I've found to learn. Get in there, get dirty and ask lots of questions. Happy Mortske sent me to you. Subscribed and trying to catch up. Had your" Sitting on your ass wont finish your project" attitude until age and infirmities kind of slowed me way down. Keep up the good work young man. Enjoy viewing.
Well you won in the end! I found that the DuraSpark II was so fun I kept a new spare on the fender well ! Good job sir
A wins a win!
Sounds like you had good grandparents. These trucks are immediately what I think about when I think grandpa truck.
The smile on your face while driving your grandpas truck is the best part.
Man you put some work into that and it really showed at the end. Nice troubleshooting.
It was a learning experience on this one for sure.
1983 ford f -250 sitting there for 15 years needs everything new battery clean up inside the truck new tires paint job awesome video friend bless you indeed
👊🏻👍🏻👍🏻
48:07 I love when the truck tried to start itself! Was that your shadow working 'long side 'o' ya? ROFL!
That was EPIC! Talk about hanging in there til the bitter end- and satisfaction- this is it.
I love how other people also taste old oil its nice to know we're not alone also I subscribed I wish I knew about your videos sooner
None the less I’m glad you found me!
I think the high pitch scream made the video worth it! Had me rolling. Fun video, glad you got it running!
Glad you’re watching through!
I give you credit for sticking with it.👍
👊🏻👊🏻 thanks!
I mean EVERY amount lol
Now you can pump it twice and she’ll bust off.
I’m just glad it’s done 😂😂😂
I wish she ran a little better 😂
@@PuddinsFabShop I just put a S10 back on the road. I put some sta bil in 5gal gas n the valves sound happier. Just saying. Puddin fab shop 40k comin rite up🙏😁👍
Glad to see you got it running!
-Charlie
Thanks Charlie, thought she was gonna whoop me for awhile!
Love your channel bro and as a mechanic myself I can see you know what you are doing and I love the humor!! Keep it up and Happy New Year to you and your family...God bless you.
More content like this and your channel will grow significantly.
That’s the plan instead of always building stuff!
@@PuddinsFabShop it gets way to expensive building stuff constantly!
Lol the blow-by!
I subscribed after this video!!
I am sixty three years old. My grandad has been gone for over thirty years, I still miss him. Wish I could drive his old cars like you did yours.
Sweet old truck so cool that it belonged to your grand father ,merry Christmas to you and your family her is hoping that 2021 is amazing for you all
Thank you and merry Christmas to you!
Nice truck a full nut and bolt restoration sounds in order on this one because of the memories
its good finaly you've got your girl happyly..
I apriciate what you did..keep going your dad will be happy and proud of you..
awsome that you got this truck running again!
“The brakes suck and I’m rollin more smoke than cheech and Chong but she drives” 🤣🤣🤣
That’s it!
I like how you say "Dad". I still ONLY call my Dad, Dad! Most of my friends say by their Dads name I think that is kind of weird. Right on.
That’s my old man! Proud of him!
My dad will always only be "Dad." My friend's parents are always Mr or Mrs.
That’s just old-fashioned respect. Dad is dad, no matter your ages. Same with mom. WTG
Sweet sounds good. Ya some lightening juice works. Uncle Rick was right.
She was running rough, she has some free’d up valves and rings now and runs quite a bit better!
I have used break clean instead of starting fluid as well as carb cleaner ( the flammable type )
Really liked the video I'm a Ford guy I think it was good you worked on your pa's truck with your dad an liked the drive throw the woods 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
That feeling tu get when it started.what an excitment
Good job thanks for not giving up.
👊🏻👊🏻
@@PuddinsFabShop A Ford can tell when a chevy guy is messing with it, so it messes with you back. :D
Needs more fuel
When the scene cut to you driving it up the hill toward the camera, I caught myself sitting here with my fist in the air.
Thank gawd everyone was in bed or i might coulda been committed to an 'ol folks home.
Not sure why exactly...I mean, I have an idea I recon but, not sure why I am so personally invested in some of these videos.
Especially the ones where you are either talking about your grandpa or doing some shit (good shit) that I've done back in the day.
You are killin it man. Laughed my ass off through this one...again!
Thank you
That’s awesome man! 🤘🏻 that Wooooo followed by the Ahhhh 😂
My Favorite part!
Just bought an 83 f250 that didn't start me and 2 buddies got it to start after a couple hours of messing with it. It's a whole lot of fun to do it to. Can wait to start it as a project
Good luck with it!
Congrats! That is quite the achievement!
I guess! 😅
This is where you finally found your voice on You Tube. This was wonderful to watch.
A good tip for revivals is to fill the fuel bowl via the vent on the carburetor.
I did do that, wish I would of had it on video lol
me and my dad got my grandpas 85 chevy scottsdale running this summer. love those legacy rigs.
Good idea keeping the boat anchor, you might need it to stop.😂🤣😆😂✌️
I did when I passed the camera 😂
