I travel with my Deck and switch as well and love the versatility. I’m going to have to get that steam case as the OG case is like carrying a baby in your bag it’s so huge!
I bought the tomtoc case after you reccomended it... and immediately returned it. The padding shifts around too much and offers zero protection for the bottom of the device! If you set it down on a surface, even gently, you can feel the deck make contact. Big Ole nope from me! If the "w" was made from a more rigid material and had some protection for the bottom, it might be ok. I also tried the jsaux sling bag, but I don't like the way you accessories press on the screen and how the sticks and triggers would catch on the way out. Now I'm just looking for a small backpack with enough room for a few accessories and the jsaux case
Thank you so much for this in depth review. I was looking for a bag for days I don't want to take an entire backpack to work, and couldn't find many good reviews on bags, but this one was not only a very indepth review of the bag with good angles but it also happened to be on Prime Day sale.
First of all Bill...great video. I have the TomToc carry bag and at 1:48 that strap is for when you do not have the shoulder strap on. Imagine if you will...you are holding bag one-handed. The palm of your hand is on the front of the bag holding it to your side with your four fingers slid into that loop and slightly folded underneath the bag to keep from dropping.
I also have this tomtoc bag and it works great for either the steam deck or the switch. I usually only take one or the other but not both. It just depends on what I want to play.
I regularly like to carry all of my gaming stuff with me and don’t always want to use a backpack. Didn’t know if this bag was going to have enough room but nice to know it works! Thanks for the video
I can also vouch for the Tomtoc bag. I use my to hold all my deck stuff, so I have the charging cable (may eventually upgrade to a sperate charging block and cable) and an Anker USB-C hub in addition to my earbuds, and battery back. I'm surprised you didn't mention the little pocket where the Velcro strap connects. I keep a SD card adapter with my other micro SD card in it and will tuck other small thing in there so they don't get lost in the bigger pocket. Solid piece of kit.
I thought the Steam Deck goes in the bag the other way? Have I been putting it in wrong this entire time? Haha. I always thought the big padded area was against the back of the Steam deck, not the screen but I could be wrong. Any thoughts?
Not to change the subject from what has been presented in the video 😅 But the KillSwitch with Travel Cover is a game changer in terms of lightening the load in a backpack. I really enjoy the case that Valve ships, but the charger pouch, I was never a huge fan of. So opting for a smaller carry/protection case being the KillSwitch. Giving up the original carrying case was easy, since I use a backpack daily anyway. Really enjoy the products featured here too though. Super excited to see where the podcast continues to go into the future.
Thank you so much for this review, I've recently purchased a steam deck and have been looking for a bag that will fit both the steam deck and my switch lite. I tend to travel often to visit family out of state and dont feel like bringing my laptop, but would like some gaming options. Definitely going to be picking this up.
i owned both, sold my switch 3 months ago, and got a deck 1 week ago, dont miss the nintendo. mine was even jailbroken so i had acess to many extras, but the deck i bougth it used but so cheap 260€ and its worth every cent for retrogaming, can play switch and many other consoles and also good games on steam os, loving the experience so far
I'm going to buy this, so does anyone know if I can fit a steam deck, a switch with its case, a charger, an usb c cable, an hdmi cable and a tiny controller in it?
Looks interesting - is the Steam Deck recessed so that the "buffer protection panel" doesn't make contact with the joysticks? How much clearance is there as I have additional tips on my joysticks.
@@MatthaisUK I can't tell you right now because I still have not received my steam deck, GLS sent it to the wrong country and I've been waiting for it for 3 weeks now lol. I'll answer you when I get it !
Great video. I'm going away tomorrow for couple of days and the first thing in my backpack is the Steam Deck. Then my Samsung Tablet, some android ear buds. And then all the chargers. Mt Deck has my Steam library and also loaded with GamePass, just incase there's some decent WiFi where I'm going.
I have to say doot get tomtoc stuff. I have to admit bag's are well made fit and zippers...but the shoulder bag a is not centered --> means if you lift it to carry it it rotates and if it is not zipped everything will drop. 2nd and worse is the zippers block either the analog triggers or the analog sticks... Sorry but that's a no go for such a price. The "slim" is nice but if you don't own a case it rattle left to right. The thing on top only protects up and down rattles... Tomtoc is a no go. Same with the power bank from beasus nearly everyone recommended it ... Because it is cheap and if you buy cheap u buy twice;) With the power bank that provides usb c in/out you need to check that the powerbank provides power until the connected device is charged. The "cheaper" ones only charge until the connected device is higher charged then the connected device...that means 1st the powerbank did what it should charge the steam (or also a laptop) but as soon the steam deck was higher charged then the beasus powerbank it started to charge the pd65w powerbank, so it started to drain the battery!!! and after that it switched from charging to charge...every 3min I returned 3 of these beasus pd65w powerbanks all had the same issue, that assoon the voltage of the connected device is higher it starts get charged instead of charging... Sorry but check your accessories ;)
Could you please do a video about monitors specifically for steamdeck, 1080p, ports, refresh rate and doesn't break the bank thanks in advance. Great video like always.
Brooo get rid of those outlet bricks they are huge for no reason. I have the anker nano 65w and 45w and both together are the size of one of those big boys
Ugh I hate Nintendo download games, it feels like I dont own the game. I MUST have a physical copy (in addition to digital if I really like the game and want it easy-to-reach)
I just went on a trip to Florida and doing research on what battery banks are approved for flying I can say that neither of the ones in your video would be able to go on a plane. Unless you get lucky and they don't check very well which is also what happened when I went through security. They barely looked at anything and they would have definitely let a larger battery bank go through.
You are wrong, a 20,000mah battery bank is easily allowed....airplanes allow up to 100wh and a 20,000mah battery is 74wh easily within the limit even a 30,00mah would be 96wh and allowed
@Sam Goff I remember looking at the one specifically that he showed first because that's the one I was going to get. It wasn't approved per the airline I was flying. Unless things have changes or other airlines are different
@@NerdNest Sure, if you want to look at this single video on its own, but I’m talking about MANY of your videos over the last few months….. just seems like they’re mostly “I got sent this new thing, click this link to support the channel!” Maybe just ease back on the ads, do some games showcase videos or something that EVERYONE would find interesting, mix it up a little? This video was "Steam Deck" "EDC" and "What's in my Bag?" goodness. Awesome video, man.
EDC?
@@NerdNest Every day carry. Which I suppose this is more Travel carry, but it still hits the same beats.
i use the strap on the steam deck case to hold the original charger and in ear head phones
the front strap is for when you hold it like a clutch bag

You're correct. He puts it in backwards in this video but it's a bag... its not like it fundamentally ruins things, use it how you like :)

Found this channel through rgc. The podcast about nintendo and emulation was the first i watched, loved it
Brought my SteamDeck, Switch Lite and Retroid Pocket 3+ on my current trip. Haven't touched anything but the SteamDeck just yet.
I use the chrome kadet. Higher volume and bonus, it doesn’t look like a man purse.
Looks like just a single internal pocket? How do you protect the joysticks and screen?

that tomtoc case for the deck looks slick!
i don't typically travel but i may in the future... summer is coming!
And it can't get here soon enough.
does the switch fit in the steam deck bag where the steam deck would go? Especially wondering with something like the satisfye grip on it!
I don’t have a satisfye grip. Sorry
